In 2021 Wing Daddy's announced it would be opening a new location in the Westside. I grew up in that area and was surprised when we got a Wing Stop years back. Unlike other sides of town that have experienced a boom this area will always be an economic desert. Fast forward to 2023 and passing by on a daily basis to see its progress it finally opened. I came here for its grand opening, eager to see how it will fare in this area. I know this side of town all too well.
When I got here parking was tight but it's located in a plaza so there are spaces in the back. Each Wing Daddy's location has its own vibe and the vibe here is pretty welcoming. From its first layer of bricks to its facade now is stark. The layout, for example the bar area breathes openly. I like its rectangular shape, creating full service from all sides. A host walked us to our table with high chairs. And yes with the signature WD booty shorts. The interior is bigger than the one at Jackson Keller but smaller than the SE ³Military Dr. location. It is clean, with a modern look. It's more brightly lit than the other locations.
Wing Daddy's is my Happy Hour place with cheaply priced drinks from 2pm to 6pm. In addition they offer lunch, dinner specials everyday. So I had a Karbach's "Hopadillo IPA" , wings and fries. I would remiss to include the service, the server was excellent. Since it was a grand opening I was anticipating there to be mass chaos and confusion. Instead the regional managers even a principle owner was there to ensure everything was running smoothly. Throughout my time there a regional manager, a representative and an owner from their original El Paso, TX location paid a visit to the table.
They all were friendly and offered an insight into their business.
The food, drink and service were all excellent. The crowd was a mix of old and young. I did see alot of kids, more than expected. But I did see ruffians, gruff patrons and I wonder how this population will affect late nights, particularly weekends. Will this place remain five stars? I'm not sure. I can only account for my experience here. Results will vary. The challenge for them moving forward will be continuing their enthusiastic service, retaining great servers and above all putting out good food consistently. I'm already two days in, a couple of tall sized beers, wings and I think they are off to a go start. The place is spacious, the service is excellent and the food is great.
ps. We finally can have nice things!
