Winston Lodge | Best ski hotels in North America

"This intimate boutique hotel, housed in a traditional wood and stone lodge, is ideally located in the heart of Kicking Horse Mountain Resort, just a few minutes’ walk from the main gondola. The 11 bedrooms are smart and spacious, featuring hand-crafted wood furniture, incredibly comfy feather-down beds, and balconies with mountain views. After skiing, guests can unwind in the cosy lounge, with its big sofas, stone fireplace, books shelves and board games, before refuelling at the Lodge’s buzzy bistro, popular for its tasty burgers and local craft beers. This lodge was quaint and quiet. It was beautiful, and we loved it. There is a small hot tub and a small sauna, which we enjoyed with our 2 boys (ages 10 and 12). The room was comfortable with a nice sized balcony, and we loved the Nespresso in the room! The shared area was spacious, clean, and had lots of comfortable seating for all to enjoy. The decor is beautiful, and the location is only a quick walk to the ski hill, where Peaks Grill is open for meals and drinks. There is another restaurant just a few steps away (The Jeffrey Room), which has great reviews but we didn't make it there. Next time, we will check it out. I would most certainly stay here again.

This hotel is in kicking horse mountain resort, not Golden, this may leave you a bit limited with food choices off season. |Access is by stairs, avoid if this is an issue for you. |Had a lovely welcome from the guy running the place, really thorough. |The room was beautiful, the shared spaces are lovely. The hot tub was very welcome. Breakfast was continental style but had what we needed and was relaxed. |Restaurant next door was a bonus.

Location: 13 km from town up a paved mountain road. One restaurant in another lodge opens at 5 PM Th-Su. There is another restaurant in another nearby lodge. The nearby gondola is out of order. The ski lift it $42 per person. At the top there is an enclosed live grizzly bear.||Hotel: The parking lot is gravel with some mud. There are many weeds in the area around the hotel. One set of stairs to the front door is steep, the other set does not have bannisters. ||You need a code you should have received to open the front door. We did not get the code. The outside deck is sorely in need of sanding and painting.||There are about ten rooms on two floors, No elevator. The common area/lobby is nice with hardwood floors, fireplace, couches, and one long common breakfast table.||There is no pool or business center. There is a sauna and hot tub.||Breakfast is Continental. Well supplied.||Internet is fast at 115.99 Mbps. Nevertheles, the TV picture froze and paused during shows for short periods.||Room: We had a large king size room. The bed headboard was about 20 feet from the TV. The room needs a larger TV. The TV remote operation was a puzzle.||The mattress was good. There was no desk. The two "modern" chairs were uncomfortable and did not fit the decor. The rest of the furniture was nice with a beautiful carved armoire. ||There was a big deck with two chairs and a table. Mosquitos prevented enjoyment of the deck facing the woods.||The bathroom was a good size, but there was very little counter space. The sink was free hanging with no counter. The towels, tissues and toilet paper were high quality.||Staff: The young man on staff was personable and pleasant.

The location of the hotel is definitely a plus—peaceful and close to nature—and the room itself was decent, though it lacked air conditioning, which made it uncomfortable in warm weather. Unfortunately, the check-in experience was frustrating. The reception closes at 7 PM, which is not clearly communicated. When I arrived after that time, there were no instructions provided on how to get inside or where to find my room key. The entrance door required a code I never received. I had to knock repeatedly until another guest helped me get in. This kind of stress on arrival is unacceptable, especially at this price point. Breakfast was also very disappointing. It was advertised as included, but what was provided was extremely minimal—definitely not up to the standard you’d expect for paying around CAD 500 per night. I even saw a guest bringing their own eggs and cream cheese, which says a lot about what was missing. Overall, this hotel has potential with its location and quiet atmosphere, but the lack of proper communication, poor breakfast offering, and absence of basic amenities like air conditioning made the stay underwhelming.

Highly recommended The Winston Lodge for a ski vacation or a relaxing mountain getaway. The whole lodge is recently renovated and has an inviting and cozy appearance. After a day skiing, the hot tub and sauna are the perfect way to relax and recharge. Location-wise, it’s just a quick 6-minute walk to the gondola and the staff are genuinely friendly and welcoming. The bistro is offering outstanding food with excellent price-to-quality value. The atmosphere is lively yet intimate, making it a great spot for dinner or evening hangout.

Great Place !. Super close to the mountain so it is basically a ski in and ski out.. Staff is super helpful and do their very best to make sure the guests needs at met.. Everything is diligently maintained and the rooms are cleaned.. We stayed for 3 nights and would stay again.. The common areas are intimate and relaxing.. The lodge can be social but also private if you wish

The past three days at Winston Lodge have been absolutely wonderful! From the warm welcome to the incredibly comfortable beds and the cozy ski area, everything was perfect. But what truly made our stay special were the people, they go above and beyond to create a welcoming, home-like atmosphere with a cozy vibe and a hearth. We felt right at home and can’t wait to come back!

We had a great weeks stay at Winston Lodge Kicking Horse, lovely room, great Sauna and Jacuzzi, the staff were great, very friendly and efficient, the bar and Restaurant was fantastic, great food and great service. The Hotel is small and cosy with log fires in the main lounge, its about 250 metres from the Golden Eagle Express Gondola, so an easy walk, even with skis. They have a great boot room for ski and board storage with boot heaters which are a game changer. I can't speak highly enough of the Winston and all its staff and management, give it a try you wont be disappointed. Kim.
