The Best Restaurants in Old Metairie | Eater New Orleans

"Yet another popular neighborhood bar and grill, Winston’s includes a spacious patio and a British-style pub interior vibe. The menu is straight ahead bar fare, but done well. Quesadillas are served rolled instead of in wedges, the Cajun-style meat pies are tasty, and be sure to ask for malted vinegar with the fish and chips. Tons of beer on tap." - Beth D’Addono

Love this spot great eats and good vibes all around. Be sure to visit when Omar is working he’s the best bartender/cook! I got a great taste of home with the fried okra and meat pies which I’d been craving since I touched down at the airport. The decor is very New Orleans core and gives a relaxed vibe also a great spot to catch a game with their back patio which is very spacious. They also have an assortment of games both for those who like to gamble or who like to test friendships with classics like uno, connect 4 and many others. And of course you can’t beat the prices.

Love this place ! Good food, good, unique drinks, great atmosphere, and super back deck patio! Food is pub food. The burgers we had were wonderingful too. The service was good too. The strawberry drink is just WOW, real strawberries smashed, perfect for a warm day very refreshing !!! I don't live in the area, but when I'm there, I always pop in to Winston's. Enjoy

Used to come here all the time and loved it was very quiet but sometimes busy thought about staying in the area and getting a real estate license and bringing associates and clients here recently the crowd has changed on top of that the bartenders have attitude and are rude (tonight when I went to get the pics I was ignored by both bartenders) I don't feel safe their anymore or coming and going the service has declined also I will think twice before having anymore personal or perfessional dealings at this establishment

Everything you’d want in a neighborhood bar. Decent beer selection, friendly servers, good bar food, nice outdoor area. And, no smoking inside ✅

Yelp
After eating a delicious meal at Brasa on Metairie Road, we decided to stop in for a night cap. Soooo glad we did! This is a true hometown pub. Great bartender conversation, nice drinks, ambiance was perfect. Chefs kiss. The one bartender we chatted up with was a gentlemen in the film industry who's worked for Winston's for quite some time. He gave us a lot of knowledge to take with us. His customer service truly made our night. I recommend ordering a drink and just gazing at all of the memorabilia on the walls. Obviously tons with Winston Churchill, hence the name. This place will make you forget your in the suburbs and take you back in time. Definitely worth a visit.

Yelp
Always a fabulous experience! Everything about Winston's Pub sparkles! Great food, fabulous staff and a warm ambiance! Ice cold beers and great TV's for all the games! I highly recommend!

Yelp
The owners are amazing and service is top notch! Love coming here to catch up with friends and wind down.

Yelp
Bourdain quote on welcoming attitude here says it all. Woke's on the bar side needs to read and heed. Stay away and wait for attitude/ownership changes.

Yelp
What a nice little hidden gem of a place! Let's start out with the interior...a wonderfully decorated British pub style masterpiece. The sheer amount of awesome eye-catching trinkets, wall-hangings, and breweriana is fantastic! Leather couches and chairs adorn one side of the joint, and a full service bar and kitchen on the other. I sat at the bar (as always) and had the bartender bring me a local IPA (unknown brand, but it was good). I counted no less than 18 beers on tap, and another 20 or 30 selections in can or bottle. I'm pretty sure the bartender is also the cook at this place; he was running around like his hair was on fire and his a$$ was startin' to catch. I might add that even though he was extremely busy, the service was fantastic! Don't do yourself a disservice by skipping over this place if you're anywhere close.

Ray B.

Yelp
Lots of wood which is what you want in an old English pub, reminds me of the old lagers on vets. It's a good place to stop in and have a drink.

David E.

Yelp
READ the NEGATIVE reviews. Yelp lists "recommended" positive reviews so it makes the bar seem ok. The reviews referring to rude bartenders are true. RUDE. Ordered a beer. No one at the bar, one table of 4 in the whole place Bartender asks if I want to start a tab. I said no, I might have one might have two but not using a card and not going anywhere. He had me pay for the beer. If you are an out of towner this might not seem rude. But in OLD METAIRIE it's rude. Other places you chill. Periodically the bartender asks if you want another or want to order food. Never do they demand payment when you walk in the door. If you went to say Oscars, you'd drink your fill and eat a steak or burger and never in a million years be asked for money until you were done. AND THIS BAR HAS RITZ CARLTON PRICES WHICH ARE DOUBLE OTHER NEIGHBORHOOD PRICES. $8 For a draft beer. The same that is $4 OR $5 any other old Metairie bar. NOT NICE AND EXTREMELY EXPENSIVE. (I love the ritz Carlton which has live music Jeremy davenport, gives you snack bites, has attentive waitresses, and a beer is worth it there)

Yelp
Such a cute and quaint bar with great drinks! They have a wide variety of different beers, wines, and alcohol. I ordered the Ponchatoula Sparkler and it was delicious! It's made with Tito's vodka, fresh strawberries, mint syrup, and club soda and then garnished with mint! It was so refreshing and tasty! Great place with great drinks!

Yelp
I stopped by this Bar to grab a quick double Margarita that was ok and left a $5 dollar tip that later became a $25 dollar tip, but not by my choice! it seems like the bartender took upon herself to add $20 extra dollars without my permission!!! I am very pissed off and noone has tried to return my call after i have left plenty off messages and came in the bar and gave the bartenders my contact info and still noone feels to care about their employee fromsteeling $20 dollars from me!!! Dont trust the people here!!!
google avatar

Yelp
This is one of the best and coolest hang outs in all of Metairie. Most Metairie bars tend to be - forgive me for saying - trashy. But not thos place! I love Winstons because of the pub feel and decor. Most of the patrons are between 20s and 30s and is now non-smokong, yay! They sadly no longer so be flights but the bartenders are friendly enough about I am sure they would let you sample one or two. They also have a full kitchen. The food is just ok but the beer selection is tops. I highly recommend Winstons for its coziness and friendly staff.

John S.

Yelp
Not once in my life have I ever been treated so poorly by a bartender that clearly had no idea what she was doing. From the poor greeting, to the slow drinks that weren't mixed well, I'm underwhelmed. How you can possibly mess up a Tito's/soda, while being rude & simultaneously only paying attention to the old man (apparent sugar daddy) coddling her poor attitude. "Impressively poor" is the only way to describe this overall experience. As a new business owner in LA, I'll be sure to avoid this place like the plague of a bartender that runs it on a Tuesday night.
google avatar

Mitchell J.

Yelp
Best $5 you can spend. This burger/deal is the best you can get. All the other burger joints wish they had this much swag. Buds, port of call, smash, daq bay any other one in the New Orleans area. Cannot simply beat this deal.

Yelp
Been wandering by this local treasure for quite some time. With covid keeping me outside of places for so long, after getting some shots it was time to explore some places close to home. I'm so glad I came in. A perfectly poured pint and an order of loaded fries was exactly what I needed- come pub comfort food. The food and service was very nice. I'll be returning as this reminds me of the fabulous McMullan's Irish pub in Las Vegas. Neighborhood place with the games on the tv, non threatening white guy rock like Bob Seeger on the stereo (would prefer Irish drink rock but hey, can't have it all), friendly atmosphere and a welcoming attitude. They have slots too if that's your thing. I'll skip those because I'll need my money for future visits because I just found out they have tater tots. TATER TOTS- the unheralded perfect bar food. I'll be back again and again.

Ashleigh A.

Yelp
I have never been treated so rudely at an establishment in my life. I am someone who is kind to everyone and a total rule follower with an anxiety problem (like most millennials, am I right?!) I brought a cake (as I had done multiple other times for many occasions at this bar) to celebrate a friends promotion and upcoming new baby and a tablecloth to put under it. The owner immediately came over and rudely stated they do not allow gatherings with food and decorations. I explained it was just a cake and a tablecloth and a small group coming to have drinks after work. He stated there was already a large group coming and they called ahead and we won't be accommodated because he is working by himself. So a few people--on a Friday after work (when bars should usually expect an influx of professionals) could not accommodate a small group who wanted to purchase drinks and had a cake and a tablecloth. There was no sign indicating that the bar was closed for a private event and there were other random people sitting at the bar, but otherwise not a whole lot of people. Seems like bad business to me, but he will not have to worry about accommodating my friends and I in the future. On the other hand, Mamma's Place on Hesiod St. was so kind and welcomed us with open arms. We each purchased multiple beverages, left generous tips to thank them, cleaned up our belongings, and were gone by 6:45pm.

Yelp
Rude ! Visiting from out of town with boyfriend . She was rude and so negative since we walked in the door . She dropped my drink while handing me my bun that was soaked with grease & I will be reaching out to my lawyer on how I was treated . I own a few businesses and I would be so disappointed if any of my employees treat anyone this way !!! I will not be returning ! Don't come here unless your one of her friends . You will be treated like shit !

Yelp
Nice place and good drinks. Lots of areas to chill. Waitress comes around which is nice and there's a mix of different people. Had the coffee break beer which was good. Bathroom a little tiny and nasty but other than that. Cool place to chill.

Yelp
On Wednesday nights in a part of town I dont usually venture in this neighborhood Irish bar features the $5 burger special with fries that is one of the better burgers in the city. A full size burger dressed with fries for $5 and its grilled and not flat top, ill take it.

Yelp
Winston's Pub & Patio is an inviting and cozy pub. The inside is set up like your favorite Uncle's living room. There are tables and a nice bar of course, but the best part of the inside are the comfortable couches. You can sit and relax and chat like you're in a living room. It's a great space. They even have board games and a few poker machines if your into that. Another awesome part of this pub is the patio. It's spacious and comfortable. They have a big TV outside for sports games when the weather is good. Winston's also has crawfish boils out in the patio area during crawfish season. It's a set price and you get a fixed amount of crawfish and all the sides. It's a good deal. They have seasonal drink specials and a decent selection of beer on tap. They also serve food, but it's nothing fancy just bar food. Although I'll admit I am a fan of the cheese fries. They use seasoned waffle fries and drown them with melted cheddar. The prices are decent and the bar tenders are always friendly. Check it out one day. I think you will like it too.

Yelp
Old Metairie is a beautiful area of town. I love it there and of all the places in the area I love Winston's the most. Winston's has been a staple Old Metairie bar for me for years. It has a great comfy feel to it with the sofas, red flooring, and amazing wall decor. They have a really good food selection. The bartenders are friendly (Cliff is the man). Nice patio out back. The digital jukebox is always a hit with me and my friends. And board games! Some of the issues I have with Winston's: smoking permitted and gets way too loud in there. After spending 5 1/2 hrs here last night celebrating my friend's bday, I can still say that Winston's is a friendly and fun spot in Old Metairie. Definite hotspot in Metry!

Yelp
How have I missed this place for so many years? Oh, because of that invisible line between Jefferson Parish and Orleans...even though it literally only took us 3 minutes to get home to MidCity at the end of the night. Walking in, I knew there was something special. Beautiful atmosphere of a true English pub with large brown soft leather couches, wood paneled walls, British Flags and memorabilia, dim candle light. One from our group thought the place could be haunted... We all got a round of drinks at the bar, average pricing, quick and friendly service. The drinks were strong and it was easy to settle into the couches. As midnight approached, they seemed to have a surge of patrons, perhaps service industry workers coming off shift. It got a bit loud in the bar, so we decided to call it a night. Winston's feels like the kind of bar you just go to. Not a first stop, not a last stop...just the only stop. Would be easy to waist away the hours sipping on cocktails and enjoying easy conversation. There's something a bit transcendent about the place, I can't think of another Greater New Orleans area bar that has the same vibe. Good for locals and tourists alike!

Yelp
The best fish and chips I've had around here. Really good weekly specials. I've always had good service and the food and beer have always been outstanding
google avatar

Yelp
What a discovery! In the middle of Old Metrairie, this wonderful pub is from another time. Warmly decorated like an old library, with dark wood paneling, leather sofas, and a few comfy tables, facing a very long well stocked bar, background canned music that allows easy conversation, this is a really nice place. Only bartenders provide service, and they are very pleasant. But wait - here is the real secret! Every Wednesday night from 4 pm to closing, a hamburger platter with your choice among a bunch of fried potatoes, dressed, FIVE BUCKS! And this is not a fastfood skinny pattie. It's a hand-formed real burger, cooked the way you like it - $5.00! And the customers are not kids - real adults having quiet grownup conversations! Off-street parking right in front, at the railroad crossing! You can't go wrong at Winston's!

Julie__ M.

Yelp
Local bar for all types of crowds. Always clean and efficient. Chill vibe without the heavy smoky smell like some Metairie bars. The outside patio has expanded and is lit well. Overall, support your local business that thrives on customers who want a pleasant experience. No if ands or buts.

Allan M.

Yelp
Love this place. Great bartenders, amazing burger, and good music. Love coming here to have a cigar after work (only outside of course).
google avatar

Chris S.

Yelp
Cool little British Pub. Dive enough to love and clean enough to yuppie about. Place actually has couches and shiz... Who does that? Nobody! That's why I love this place. Feelz like home. Well without the bill of course...and the nice ladies serving me beers... Or bringing my sammiches. Speaking of the food. You want loaded cheese fries? Well these guys have cheese waffle fries. With sour cream, bacon, jalapeño, and and..... Sorry got carried away. They are that good. Burgers was cooked to perfection and very large especially for the price so bring your appetite. Nice selection on draft too. So if yer filling up to it laddy...... Let's get pissed!
google avatar

Yelp
Whenever I go to Winstons I always tell myself: I don't come here enough. That's probably about as good a review as any establishment could receive. I really love this place. It has a beautiful pub like atmosphere, great comfy leather sofas, great bartenders, and a great selection of spirits wine and beer. And they have games and just an all-around good time. It's also a very eclectic crowd here which I always appreciate. I hate it when I go to a bar and I'm the oldest person there by 30 years. I totally recommend this place unless you want a big loud rowdy bar.

Yelp
This is one of Mr KC Masterpiece's favorite place. During our four day beer beige recently this was the first recommendation from him each night. On the fourth night I reluctantly agreed. This place gets way too packed. More than likely you won't find a seat here. They do have a patio out back but it's rather closed in. When it's 90 degrees and super humid, I doubt you'd want to sit out there. Maybe if they put up some fans.. The place gets an extra star for serving food after hours. Might have to give them extra two or three stars if you're starving. There's nothing to eat around there at night. Full bar but beer on tap is limited. They do have Guiness, my fav!

L T.

Yelp
Winston's is on point post COVID lockdown! They've got a great system setup...in addition to their usual lovely outdoor seating, they added a large tent with fans and tables that are adequately distanced, but still feels cozy. The employees are friendly and super attentive. They kindly relayed the rules to us in a welcoming and inviting way...and we had great drinks with a nice change of atmosphere!
google avatar

Matt R.

Yelp
Winston's used to be my neighborhood hangout, then it burned down... then I moved out of the neighborhood. Well, I just came back to town recently and heard that my old watering hole was back... so, I headed over to Winston's excited to see the big renovations. Surprisingly... absolutely nothing has changed. It literally looks EXACTLY as I remember it. Somehow they rebuilt it as if it never closed... which is fine with me! I found myself quickly right back at home and enjoying my favorite drink with a cigar and a couple of good friends. BOTTOM LINE: Why mess with a good thing?
google avatar

Emily B.

Yelp
Wonderful place to hang out, relax and chat with friends. Super intimate. Very old school. Love.
google avatar

Jerry L.

Yelp
A nice, quiet place to have a drink and hang out with friends. It's smoke free and had several sofas to relax on. The staff was very friendly.
google avatar

Jennifer B.

Yelp
Cool atmosphere with dark wood and couches. Friendly bartenders. This place really good cocktails. If you love cocktails that taste like they took hours to make and special, you gotta visit this place. There is an amazing gin cocktail that I always have to start out with.
google avatar

Violet A.

Yelp
One star because it won't allow ZERO stars. Been coming here for years.... today worst old fashions I've ever been served. Barkeeps response "been using this recipe for years. Never had one returned yet." Would ACTUALLY like to order something else BUT currently being ignored.
google avatar

Buz B.

Yelp
Winston's is a nice class public house. This place is literally 5 mins from my buddy's new place and I've been here a couple times. It's a classic public house with a nice warm atmosphere, interesting decorations and cozy feel to it. Nice comfy couches to sit back and relax and drink a pint or few. My only gripe is that they could have a few more beers to choose from and the fish and chips were "ok". Not the best fish and chips I've had in a pub, but not the worst. I hear their burgers are great, so I'll get one of those instead from now on. I've not been out to the patio because it has rained EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. I've gone there, but it sure looks nice as well. I'll be back often, that's for sure.
google avatar

Shannon S.

Yelp
Decent bar with a Winston Churchill theme where most of the folks that live around Metairie Road seem to congregate. It seemed like more of a fun and happening spot before Katrina but it still gets quite crowded in here at times with a bit of an older crowd. They had a fire and had to do some remodeling repairs on the inside and they also built a nice deck patio in the back. The food is decent but the beer prices have been creeping up of late but thankfully they have finally gone smoke free inside.

Shannon E.

Yelp
The experience we had at Winston's was everything I've ever hoped for. Watching the bartender, I think his name was Dave?, mix drinks was like watching Baryshnikov do ballet. Overall thrilling and pleasant. Except for a few things: (Dave's?!) margarita was almost too refreshing. The cheese fries... is there such a thing as too cheesy? No?! I guess we'll never know. And the bacon. THE BACON- Not the best I've ever had, but a close second! 10/10 would recommend. Except for the music; a little bit too low ;)
google avatar

Marielle S.

Yelp
Winston's has always been a favorite of mine. I don't know what it is. I really think that it's the atmosphere. The all wood interior really does make you feel as if you are in an English pub and the people here are always nice and friendly. I really like the fact that it doesn't get too crowded in here and most of the people are just stopping in to get a drink before going out or just to sit and chat with friends, I think that my favorite part has to be the leather couches that are off to the side. That little nook is so cozy and it feels like you are in a cabin somewhere. I really wish that they still had the jukebox with the Frank Sinatra albums on there, but oh well. They are currently renovating the patio, and when that is complete the bar will be completely smoke free inside.

Sue C.

Yelp
I visited Winston's in Old Metairie for the first time on Sunday night on May 26, 2019. What a delightful place with a warm atmosphere reminiscent of a European pub! Excellent music . . . the best old school rock and roll. The bartender knew her stuff and made each drink with deliberate care-- it made me feel special. The patio was delightful and welcoming with greenery and decor, secluded from street traffic. We had ample privacy such that we could converse without being worried about our neighbors. I LOVED this pub and will definitely return. I'm so glad my son took me here. My family had a fantastic time.
google avatar

Elizabeth R.

Yelp
First time visiting this Metairie bar and I fell in love. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and felt as comfortable as a good friend's living room. The decor is wonderfully styled with antique objects and wall hangings.

Yelp
Living in Old Metairie I've driven by Winston's countless times but until last night never been inside. Overall my experience was positive even if it was a mixed bag. GOOD: I really liked the ambiance and decorations. Really felt like a pub. GOOD: Pretty good tap selection, about a dozen beers listed on the board at the end of the bar. BAD: the Guinness is on a CO2 tap, which makes it taste funny and it lacks the signature bubbles. GOOD: The bartender was super friendly and attentive. Also when I opened a tab they swiped my credit card and handed it back. I wish more bars did that. BAD: While it wasn't too bad at first it was getting progressively smokier as our visit went on. GOOD: the food is standard pub food but done quite well. My companion had the fish & chips and said it was delicious. My chicken tenders were fried just right without being greasy and the sweet potato fries some of the best I've ever had. In cooler weather I'll certainly go back and check out the patio where the smoke won't gather and be an issue.
google avatar

Andrew L.

Yelp
My grandparents live a 10 minute walk away. When you are staying with people who are in bed by 7:30-8:00, a place like this is a life saver. Like others said, it does get crowded, and can be hard to find a spot. I really wish they'd add fans outside. I like the decor and the feel. The people are really nice, and it feels almost like a townie bar some where else if all the townies were wealthy, smoked cigars, and drank scotch. Also, late night food service in Metairie is a HUGE plus.

Sabrina A.

Yelp
Really nice atmosphere. Having my best friends birthday here. Wonderful experience. Bartenders take awesome care you.
google avatar

Abby T.

Yelp
LOVE Winston's. Started going here when we moved to the area, and I wish more people would go! The drink prices are great, the atmosphere is also great. I only refuse to give it 5 stars because of my experience with the staff. I am probably overly nice in ordering my drinks and every time I tried to order my bartender was a turd, for lack of better word. The outside patio is beautiful and even nice on hot summer nights. Great for late night drinks with a date or a group celebration.

Kyle P.

Yelp
Had wonderful drinks. The Ce Phe beer was like a coffee desert beer. Bartender was efficient and really cool. They have a walk up area I didn't see but the bartender was really cool about directing me to it without making me feel stupid. The atmosphere was great. Lots of older folk but that help creates a chill environment.
google avatar

Pashley C.

Yelp
Food was nothing special, but the Pimms Summer Cup was AMAZING, and ye olde pub ambience was nice.
google avatar

Ryan W.

Yelp
Since Winston's has gone smoke free it has become one of my favorite bars. They make good drinks, and they have good beer on tap. They have a classic interior, and a great patio. Definitely one of my favorites!
google avatar

Yelp
I used to stop in to Winstons a few years ago when it was still a cigar bar. Since I don't partake that was a big minus for me. But not too long ago I met some friends there and learned that it's now a non-smoking establishment. And so, with its excellent beer on tap selection, friendly bar staff and patrons, it's now my go-to place. My problem now is that I have a hard time leaving
google avatar

Anthony M.

Yelp
Winstons is my favorite place in the city to grab a drink. The staff is very friendly and knowledgable, and the patrons are jovial. I've been going to this pub for quite some time now and there's nothing like sitting out on their back patio with friends and enjoying the night air. It's wonderfully decorated inside and out with a great selection of drinks. I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a nice, cozy bar in the Metairie area.

Jan F.

Yelp
Always have a good time. Welcoming staff, good cocktails. Just feels right.

Yelp
The best place in the NOLA area to enjoy a beer and a fine cigar. Good food, great beer and extremely friendly staff.
