Winter's Jazz Club

This is the spot for beautiful jazz music. A listening only room, which i love. Chatterboxes need not attend, or leave the convo at the door for later. The cocktails are delightful, service is attentive without ruining the mood, the ambiance is perfection, and the musicians they bring in are top tier. One of my new favorite venues in the city. If the tickets are too pricey, you can grab a seat at the bar for 7.00 and save while still enjoying the music. Check them out if you enjoy live music! You won't be disappointed.

I visited Winter’s Jazz Club on Valentine’s Day weekend (Sunday), and it was such a great experience. It was very easy to find seating, which I honestly appreciated given the holiday weekend. The music, the vibe, and the overall ambiance were absolutely perfect intimate, classy, and exactly what you’d want for a jazz night. I know some people aren’t fans of the one-drink minimum, but personally, I feel like it adds to the elevated atmosphere. It keeps the environment more refined and intentional, which I enjoyed. The drinks were good, and the overall experience felt well worth it. It’s also a great spot if you’re traveling solo. The area feels very safe, and it’s the perfect place to unwind, listen to live jazz, and enjoy a nice drink. I would definitely recommend it.

A great place for date night, I had an amazing time! The drinks were so good, the place doesn’t have any food or small bites but I do wish that the sets were longer or had an intermission. 10/10 would highly recommend

I have been going to this Jazz club for years even though I don’t even live in Chicago! This club always has good acoustics and they usually have very very good artists as well. The cocktails are pretty good and refreshing especially the ones named after famous artists. You can buy ticket online and I would recommend getting the VIP tickets for best experience. They usually sell 2 sets of tickets every night.

Beautiful space, incredible jazz artist's we enjoyed our time there. Had a nice walk along the river too.

Felt welcome as soon as I arrived. Great space for listening, large enough but still allowed for an intimate experience with the musicians. The staff was friendly and attentive, and a good selection of drinks on the menu. I would definitely recommend, and will go back when next I am back in Chicago!

I went to 4 jazz bars during my time in Chicago and this was my favourite. I saw Abigail Riccards (I forgot the names of the rest). The setting was initimate and they were amazing. The band played off each other so well, and it looked like they were having a good time. The audience was good too. I’d say underrated as there weren’t as many people as I thought there’d be, but maybe that’s because I went on a weekday

We went for the Patricia Barber quartet part of a date night. The quartet was excellent as always and seemed to mellow together. Sadly Patricia was poorly miked loosing her tart lyrics. The room is difficult to find. Uber puts it a block away. Seems the mapping software doesn't take into account boat slips.

Great place, recommend you buy your tickets ahead of time. You can also sit at the bar and see a show for $7 rather than paying full price for a show. The sound is great, not over powering when you are around the stage. Drinks are good and service isn't bad. It's a full bar so you can get whatever you'd like. Definitely recommend buying tickets ahead of time to avoid a sold out show. We highly enjoyed it, but when it's time to get seated, it's best you wait in line rather than grabbing a drink first. They'll charge you if you're sitting at the bar and it's up to you to watch when they start seating, no one notifies you (even if they say they will).

Such a fun spot! We came in to get out of the rain and were pleasantly respond. We didn't have tickets so sat at the bar. We still had a great view of the show. Bartenders were friendly and made great drinks!

Seating was very small. My legs touched another person sitting next to me. The person never played any Stevie Wonder songs I knew. It was all songs that never made it to radio!! Big upset! Oh and no food is served! And we paid $10 for water!!! Never again!

Bravo Winter's Jazz Club!! I love every detail of this place. The location, talent and service are all perfect! Nestled along the river, the charm begins outside. You can park your boat and head on in. I love it. The pretty walkway connects you to a few restaurants you can enjoy before or after the show. You can enter the big building that houses many businesses from the street but I think it's much nicer to take a waterfront stroll on your way in. Once inside, this jewel box music venue is quaint and cozy. Through the big floor to ceiling windows, you face the river and twinkle lights shine all over the trees. There is a small bar and seating area where you can listen to the show without a ticket. The theater itself is intimate and comfortable. Exposed brick walls and the small stage make it feel very personal. I have attended shows where they have at least 15 musicians and they make it work. The staff is always fantastic. Scott and Lisa offer such personalized service. Thank you! The servers on the floor are always very sweet. They know how to assist during a live performance with ease. The bartenders create tasty cocktails with quality ingredients. I thoroughly enjoy myself on each visit.

Awesome jazz venue, comfortable seating, excellent sound (thanks sound person), decent beverages, considerate staff. Highly recommended!

Had a really good time. Great for date night or just a chill time! Nice and cozy too!!! The crowd was laid back and there really isn't a bad spot in the place. The drinks were decent and the servers were attentive. There was a drink minimum (2 I believe) but it was affordable

Had a fun night enjoying the beautiful music of Dee Alexander feat the Jeremy Kahn Quartet. It was my first time listening to jazz in Chicago and I wasn't disappointed. It was a nice intimate space where everyone had a mutual understanding of appreciating and respecting the artists. It felt very cozy and felt like a warm hug for my soul. The cover for GA is $25 and $37 for VIP seating which definitely gives you a better view. You can also sit at the bar for a significantly cheaper price but it is further away. Both GA and VIP require a purchase of a drink, which was honestly a great deal. All of the prices included tax, which the US really should do more often. I would definitely return for another nice relaxing evening filled with good vibes.

My boyfriend and me came over for my birthday weekend. I really enjoyed this establishment and the music was pretty good. The drinks were just basic but not terrible, and our waitress was friendly. I would come back.

First time visiting the club. Glad we chose the VIP seating. Some of the GA seating is obstructed. There is no food so definitely grab a bite before. The service was decent, you do need to order a drink while you are there, it did take a long time to come to the table. But it was busy! The music was really great and the price of the tickets were great! Looking forward to hearing more music here soon!

One of the most fun parts of our visit to Chicago! I've never been to a jazz club before but would definitely go again after this visit. Plenty of cocktails or beers to sip while you relax and enjoy the show. Would return.

We saw a weekday show here recently. To get to the club you go along the docks on the back side of the building, the entrance we used was not actually on N. McClurg Court. The music was wonderful and if you go to the first set you're welcome to stay for the second if you buy another drink. This is a no-conversation club which means no talking to distract from the show. Too bad it isn't also a no-cellphone club; a woman in front of us starting texting about 30 minutes into the set and a bright screen is really distracting when it's between you and the stage.

We caught the second set of the night when Abby Riccards performed with The Tim Fitzgerald Trio. The entertainment was amazing! They did an Aretha Franklin and Ray Charles tribute set. Service was fantastic! My husband and I both ordered off of the signature cocktail menu and they were delicious (and strong)! You can pay to be seated in the performance room where you can see the show or you can just sit at the bar and listen for free (of course you'll be paying for drinks either way but you can save a few bucks if you're not into watching the musicians) I'd love to visit again in the future!

My first experience at a jazz club was great. I was visiting Chicago for the weekend and wanted to experience something new. The venue is intimate, with a cool classy vibe. We were greeted at the door by a friendly hostess who offered us a complimentary coat check. Our server was friendly and quick with our drink orders. The venue only offers drinks, but there are restaurants near by if you want to have dinner before or after the show. If you live in Chicago or are visiting you should definitely visit Winter's.

We are frequent visitors to Winter's and love it. There are no bad seats in the venue, and the sound is always excellent. If I had to find one minor complaint, it is that common bathrooms are shared with the other businesses in the building and could be a little cleaner.

Great vibe! Came to see Denise Thimes. She was amazing and so were the musicians with her! The price of admission is reasonable and had 2 soft drinks which were not costly either. We wanted VIP seating but they were sold out. Our seats on the side of the stage were really good and we loved the music!

This was my first time to visit a piano jazz bar. The performance had already started but we were able to enjoy her energetic vocals and music performance. As for the French 77 cocktail, the scent of elderflower was in harmony with gin. I like gin tonic so much but I was happy to know this cocktail too.

This is a great date night spot! The live performance was amazing. The specialty cocktails were really tasty as well.

Hidden gem along the River. Good drinks. Great atmosphere. Highly recommend this place.

Have been here a couple of times and it's a great way to end a night OR start a night ;) whatever your mood says..!! An intimate place to enjoy jazz with your partner, loved ones or friends

Well I think everyone might know I'm a jazz aficionado and the Blue Note is my second home. So after a long exhausting day sightseeing we decided to end the day with cocktails and jazz. We came by this place by accident: we were riding the CTA #29 bus to Navy Pier and were not sure if we were going in the right direction. This very nice passenger, Kerry, assured us that we were. She was headed to her job as a bartender at the Winter's Jazz Club. She told us there was a great trio performing that night @7:30 and @6-7 there is a happy hour that offers 25% off all drinks. Thus, after a really windy visit to Navy Pier, (how windy? Let's just say the wind knocked off my ski hat and Fawn had to run fast before it blew right past the Centennial Wheel), we were ready for jazz and drinks. The club has a tricky entrance: you enter and walk down what looks like stairs to a basement and a wall that says River East then open door that says "Corridor" then walk past Robert's Pizza Dough take out window and voila you have arrived. The set up looks a bit like the Blue Note however swankier. There are small tables for those who order pizza from Roberts(only pizza is allowed to eat in club) and drinks as well as club main ticketed seating area. We had to show vaccination card and then we were seated at bar. No worries if you don't have tickets to the show: like the Blue Note you can sit at bar. However, the cover charge is $7 plus one drink($10); at BN it starts @$20 or more depending on the artist playing. The bar had a cozy and intimate vibe and if you sit in middle you can see as well as hear just fine. The bar has a marble counter and the most organized and clean mini fridges housing vodka, lemons and limes, etc. Kerry served me a great "French Martini" for my French 77 with a champagne kick, albeit not a pure French as I get as my regular cocktail but kicking. I also tried Virtue's Pear Cider. What's great about this place is the entire staff. owner and the great people of Chicago. All welcome out of towners with such warmth it's incredible. Sitting at the bar and talking and enjoying great jazz is all there is. We loved it so much we came back the next night. When I return to Chicago, Winter's Jazz Club is bookmarked as my go to jazz club. Shout out to Kerry!

Staff was friendly and attentive. So nice going to a music venue who makes it a priority to be a listening room. It was about honoring the music and the musicians. I found that refreshing. If we are ever back in town we will definitely be back.

Wowzers what a place. What a find! Im a first timer and I couldnt be more thrilled. The music was authentic, cultured, and comprehensive. Great drinks and seating was perfect. If you decide to go definitely eat first there's a limited menu mostly drinks. have fun.

Negative attitudes Shushed no dancing no joy allowed Chicago ya let me down Nothing more to add. Should have been simply enjoyable evening out. But no.

I walked in and it was 95 degrees for a jazz show. Everyone in there was red and sweating. No AC, they had open doors, and it was 80-90 outside. It was hotter INSIDE than OUTSIDE! Even after paying for 2 tickets then walking 1.5 miles bc I parked at the bean, I had to leave within minutes. Very disappointing because I love jazz and was looking forward to a show. I would not recommend nor ever go back.

Good music, good venue but losing control of cell phone policy. Like every live venue, the cell phone enforcement can make or break the experience. Winters is going in the wrong direction in our experience.

We were visiting Chicago recently and wanted to find a jazz (not blues) place for an evening show. We hit the jackpot by finding Winter's...both because of the place itself and the fact that the Chicago Jazz Orchestra was playing. I won't repeat some of the comments others have made, but here are a few additional thoughts: - It wasn't as hard to find as others indicated...use the address though, and you will also see some signage down the block. - We got there 9pm for the 9:30pm show because we had read that we'd be able to get into the bar early and then get seated first. Well, maybe it was COVID, but that isn't how it worked. We simply lined up outside and waited for the prior show to end and for them to begin seating us. It was very efficient. And, the place is pretty small so you really don't have to worry about getting "the best seat". - We had General Admission seats and they provided our party of 4 a few different options...all seats are good (some poles do get in the way a little bit, but you should expect that at a small venue like this). - Service was excellent...and they kept refilling our water glasses too, which we liked. Bottom line: We would go back to Winter's in a minute...and probably will next time we visit Chicago!

Small and quaint. Good music and vibes but it is a listening bar only, no talking while the musicians are performing. If you go with a group of friends don't plan on having a conversation with any of them. There is a $15 cover and a mandatory $10 drink per person which I don't like personally. But overall not bad if you just want to listen and have a few drinks. Small drink menu as well, so be open to try something new or stick to the beer and wine only.

A wonderful and intimate jazz club in Chicago. I have been here several times and most recently for the annual Charlie Brown Christmas show with the Chris White trio. Such a cool way to welcome in the holidays. Winter's is a small club with a big sound and reasonably priced drinks, beer and wine. I'm a wine drinker and they offer a small, but good selection with a generous pour. The servers and management at Winter's are congenial and friendly. Winter's always offers top notch entertainment and frequently feature local jazz performers, which for me is a plus plus. Ticket prices are fair as well. You won't leave disappointed after an evening of jazz at Winter's Jazz Club. I'm oh so glad they are here.

Winters is a must visit every time we come to Chicago. There isn't a bed seat in the house, the acoustics are excellent.

Gave it another try's, music is always good. But that bar.... still needs work. I just don't understand.‍

Winter's sells general admission tickets that are not "general admission." Most tables can seat 2 or 3 people, but they reserve the best general admission seats for parties of 3, even if they come late or NOT AT ALL. General admission means first come, first served. But Winter's would rather have tables sit empty than let regular customers with parties of 2 sit in them. IF THEY GAVE A DAMN, THEY WOULD COME EARLY ENOUGH TO SIT TOGETHER. We have come to Winter's since they opened. We gave money during COVID when they weren't even open, and we were there the first week they reopened. No more.

It's was SO hot in there we walked in eve when we purchased tickets ahead of time that are non refundable and walked straight out. It was like a sauna.

If you like listening to jazz, this is a really great spot. Honestly, no seat is a bad seat. You really don't need to pay extra for a VIP seat. I did, but it's not necessary. Keep your convo at a minimum and arrive early to get your preferred seat. The cost? In expensive.

Excellent jazz club in Chicago. If you're looking for live jazz music, this is the place to be. It's never crowded even when it's full, the acoustics are great they have wonderful cocktails and it's not expensive. We've been going often since they opened. We have never been disappointed.

Awesome experience, excellent place to listen and enjoy some great jazz musicians, has an excellent bar menu to enjoy some beverages while watching your favorite jazz musicians. Highly recommend this establishment. Chicago is truly unique and blessed to have such a variety of incredible venues for jazz. Intimate setting, there's not a bad seat anywhere. The seats surrounded the stage.

Now THIS is a jazz club. I've seen a lot of jazz, and Winter's is one of my favorite venues so far. It's such an intimate space, and chances are you're going to be just a few feet away from incredible live music. We saw the Tammy McCann Quartet on a cold December night, and it was such a memorable experience. Get there 20-30 minutes early; you'll have to stand in a line, but at least it's inside. Once they open the doors you'll be seated (in first come, first serve fashion), minus the VIP tickets of course. Our drink service was extremely slow when we were there... hence the four stars instead of five. It took 25 minutes to get drinks after the show started and what we ordered was pretty simple. Regardless, the staff was extremely nice. You'll leave here happy, I promise. This place is really special.

Overall: Great music paired with great drinks! The good: Great music, with what seems like a pretty diverse calendar of artists (from trios, to soloists, and all sorts of genres). The atmosphere is appropriately intimate and the drinks are strong and tasty. The waitress was friendly and came back at optimal moments. The not-so-good: After the show ended the entire place promptly and effectively closed up, which is a bit odd. We wanted to stay for a night cap but instead the bar staff started flipping chairs and everyone poured out of the place. The seats that we were in were also pretty uncomfortable, as we had to sit on the equivalent of an unpadded booth for over an hour. Atmosphere: 8/10 Service: 8/10 Drinks: 8/10

I fell head over heels for Winter's Jazz Club during my first visit! Let me start off by saying I'm not a Jazz enthusiast. I only occasionally listen to it on the radio. When it comes to Jazz history, I'm clueless. If you're like me, please do not let this rob you of venturing out to experience everything Winter's has to offer! Tucked away behind River East's Target and Pinstripes, lies Winter's. It is located along the Ogden Slip, which is a tiny canal easily mistaken for the Chicago River. The walk along the back of the Slip is quiet and gorgeous during summer. You can gaze at the boats and the festive string lights cascading down. There's also a few art galleries to admire. Sadly, there was only a handful of people in attendance for the 7:30 p.m. show. As much as I wish Winter's more clientele, it made the experience feel exclusive. There is a $10 minimum menu item per person, smart casual or better dress code, no flash photography and video recording are both modestly welcomed. They are closed on Mondays. Also a variety of ticket prices range form $15 weekday general admission to $20 weekend prices or $25 VIP seating. Check Groupon as well. During certain hours, Happy Hour specials are readily available. Two sets are offered at either 7:30pm. or 9:00 pm. Entering Winter's is the main bar, then coat check and finally the listening room. Lofty, warm, elegant and melodic the small interior makes for an intimate music experience. We came to see Dana Hall Trio and Grammy Award Winning bass player. My favorite cover song performed was, "Barbados." The Trio consisted of piano, bass, and drums. They were cool, hip, talented and above else passionate! I don't remember the last time I've seen a performance with so much soul. These guys played their guts out! It also takes someone with so much rhythm to play off rhythm which brings jazz to life! Another enjoyable moment was when Dana Hall did a 3 minuet drum solo. Truly mind blowing. Just like a scene straight out of the movie, "Whiplash." Bravo! A place to disconnect from electronics, Winter's prides themselves for being a true listening room paying the highest respect to the musicians. Super chill, beautiful jazz music, romantic, and cathartic, you won't want to leave!

Our experience at Winter's Jazz Club was such a treat! We booked online last minute, and they were able to accommodate us on a Sunday night. We saw a Bruce Henry Quartet concert that followed the evolution of African American music from Congo Square to Harlem. It was illuminating, exciting, and filled with energy! Winter's is a marvelous intimate setting, the quintessential jazz club.

Thanks to an email from my building's developer I was able to score comp tickets to a performance of Neal Alger's Brazilian Trio last week at Winter's Jazz Club. I was eager to check out this brand spanking new jazz club, especially as their lineup looked promising and it is conveniently located. Yes, it is on the smaller side but that to me translates into better acoustics and a more intimate listening experience. I am a fan of jazz, although not as knowledgeable about it as some, although I do know what I like. The performers themselves were awesome--a trio of a guitarist, bass player, and a drummer. Since the music was Brazilian jazz I was not familiar with a lot of the pieces, but appreciated the brief introduction that was given before the set. It sounds like this jazz club, which has only been open since November, will be offering shows five days a week. I like that there are a variety of options in terms of timings (generally a 7 pm, 8:30 pm, and 10 pm show) to accommodate a variety of schedules and preferences. This spot also offers a happy hour (5:30 pm-7:30 pm, might be later on weekends) featuring half off wine, cocktails, and beer. I thoroughly enjoyed my Ogden Slip (a takeoff on the classic Manhattan) that I ordered. Between the cocktail and the rousing music, this was a perfect way to warm up on a blustery January night.

The drinks and service were good. When I was seated the host offered a couple options and I took the ones she said would best see the performers- however one of the pillars completed blocked half the band including the headliner. For the first 1/3 of the show, the heating/AC was cycling on and off and it completely drowned out the subtle nature of Patricia Barber's performance when it was on. The seating along the perimeter is pretty uncomfortable as well. The sound is quite good despite the pillars in the room and the ambiance is nice. Next time I'll spring for the VIP seats.

Fantastic new spot in Streeterville! I stopped by for happy hour last week and the drink specials were outstanding (half off wine/cocktails/beer) from 5:30-7:30 (or 8 weekends). Live jazz didn't start until after happy hour, but you can sit at your seat at the bar and watch live music when it starts. If you want an actual table near the band, you have to buy a ticket. The atmosphere is great. Perfect for a date night or small get together, but not ideal for large groups. The staff was excellent and super friendly. Check it out!!

Great listening room. Beautifully decorated, fantastic spot to take a date. Acoustics are wonderful, very intimate space. Bar has a nice selection, better than anticipated. We had a "French 77" (their riff on the classic French 75 and a blueberry something that were both expertly made. Delicious. No food. Gorgeous restrooms. We were fortunate to catch the incomparable Elaine Dame on a late Thursday night show. A true talent, my favourite jazz singer in Chicago. Couple of things I did not care for; The location is weird, located in a basement of a large building, lots of turns and not well marked with signage. Chairs are terrible. I mean like primary school desk chair terrible. Staff is very casually attired. For such a snazzy place, I was expecting uniforms of some sort to add to the ambiance. Coat check/emcee was terrific.

I have been here three times now and it gets better and better. This is a jazz club known as a listening room. Those who are there are in tune to good music and are not distracted by anything that's occurring outside of the room. It's an intimate setting with VIP seating. The wine and cocktail menu is wonderful. Each time you are greeted as if you are a valued customer. I'm looking forward to the next show. The acoustics are on point.

What a jewel. Quality jazz- it's a show so no audience talking. The food was delightful too. Our server was great and we didn't feel rushed. The entire vibe of the location was on point.

Winter's just celebrated its one year anniversary recently, and I'm hoping that there will be many more to come. Its a great addition to the Chicago jazz scene. You access the club off of McClurg Court - walk east down the promenade just north of the Ogden Slip and you'll see the entrance - maybe 100 yards in. There are two spaces, one for watching live acts, and a bar area. The stage is surrounded by cocktail tables on three sides for reserved seating, backed by some raised banquette seating around the walls for general admission. It is an intimate space and the sound is great. However, there are load bearing pillars at the corners of the stage, so some seats will have obstructed views. Cover prices are pretty reasonable, and the cocktails are priced at what you would expect for Streeterville. They are very well made. The only downside is that the bathrooms are outside the club, in a hallway inside the building. Notwithstanding that annoyance, the Winter's Jazz Club is definitely worth a trip.

Winter's has a spacious set-up; the back area is a separate, dedicated space for stage performance & intimate seating. The front has bar seating and a gorgeous outdoor view. Very cozy, intimate spot for an evening of jazz melodies and something to sip on. Great McClurg Ct. location! On a Tuesday evening, I was able to secure street parking (Chicago Zone rate $4 hr). Purchased Winter's Jazz Club tix online via Groupon: $10 per person with a $10 minimum drink charge per person. I liked drink requirement the least, as I don't drink much; my hubby not at all. So trying to order from the limited drink menu is almost like trying to read a foreign language, lol. Although, I consume less than three alcoholic beverages a year, that proved to be enough to recognize a watered down drink when I tasted one $13 for a 'Blueberry Jam Session' that had potential -- but was filled to the brim with ice and watered down the rest of the way. Even the hubby's plain cranberry juice was ice water with a hint of cranberry flavor .. Our server was super attentive, deserves a plus. On a Tuesday, with snow and frigid temps; the band played to five occupied tables.. Again, awesomely intimate. Let's hope your main goal is to enjoy ear soothing jazz vocals, live saxophone and piano riffs; you certainly won't be disappointed with an evening at Winter's Jazz Club.
