Yelp
Highly recommended by airport personnel prior to my arrival in Mobile. Hotel front desk person co-signed and shared that there were different locations with in Mobile. I was told that the Dauphin location was the original, so headed there.
Restaurant is located in cute downtown area on a street with many restaurants, bars and general nightlife. Street spans several blocks with parking readily available in the evening. Upon entry I was given the option to sit in dining area or eat at the bar. Selected bar area to be able to watch BBall game while dining.
Bar tender was extremely friendly and provided thoughtful responses to my food and beverage inquiries. Selected the West Indies salad, half dozen oysters lightly steamed and the Redfish Bienville. The oysters, the main reason for my visit, did not disappoint. They had a sprinkle of seasoning which added to the delicious flavor.
Unfortunately cannot say the same for the West Indies salad. The fact that it was a clump of fresh crab meat allows for the 4 star rating. It lacked any seasoning to be deemed worthy of the West Indies monicker! I had to question why it was called that name as there was no spices to warrant. The bartender mentioned something about a previous association with the current location giving it the name, but no reference to Jamaica or any island. If you are ok with just having crab meat on a platter (which does work) than I would recommend this starter.
The Redfish Bienville was tasty. I did ask for the cheese sauce to be light, and bartender said he would put on the side. That did not happen and ended up scraping it off after trying some. Definitely did not add to the blackened fish or shrimp, which was flavorful and served over a bed of Cajun rice.
In general, cute spot with lots of witty sayings posted, novelty signage and good selection of fresh seafood. Would only return if out voted by others in my party, otherwise "been there & done that."
