Wintzells Oyster House

We had an amazing birthday lunch for my husband. Service was wonderful and food delicious. I even found two black pearls in the oysters.

We are home celebrating my 50th McT HS Class Reunion. When we’re home, we always try to stop by one of our favorite places to eat. Wintzell’s Oyster House is that place. We love their seafood gumbo. Actually we love everything on the menu. We had the combination lunch special. Fried shrimp, fried oysters, fried catfish & hush puppies & a side of grits. My wife had the same, but ordered a baked potato w/butter & sour cream for her side. The food is reasonably priced. We had an awesome server name Brandi, who provided excellent service to us. This was my first time here the food was so good...especially the oysters with shrimp and crab meat.

When traveling we try and select a good local spot and we hit the jackpot with Wintzells. My wife had the grilled snapper and I had the half and half with coleslaw. Both great as was the service. I’m certain the place was full of regulars. A great, comfortable spot for seafood.

Wintzells Oyster House 6700 Airport Blvd. Mobile, AL Visited 11/2024. A local favorite. The house was packed as the night went. The oysters (raw and chargrilled) were ok : fresh but small. The red fish and grilled salmon dinners were delicious. Salmon salad was wonderful. Gumbo was really so so. Price was reasonable. Service was good.

I’ve eaten here three different times and it has always been good. The gumbo and the po-boy was my most recent meal and it was delicious.

My food was good. I like the oysters and shrimp. I have never had a bad customer service experience here before yet, but I did yesterday. I have a prepaid debit card that I like to use when I pay for things cause I can easily load money on it without giving people any of my other credit cards and debit cards so people cannot take pictures of my card numbers. They would not take it. They stated they cannot accept any gift card other than their gift card. It literally states on the back of the card it can be used anywhere Visa cards is accepted. We asked if we can just go up there and swipe it to pay because it will go through and they refused. Every time any company or location states they cannot accept my prepaid debit cards, I explain it will work just swipe it. They do and never have a problem. They refused to even try. I have owned a finance company and tried to explain to just swipe the card to pay with it. I may give them a try again later, but that was just a very bad and weird customer service experience for no point.

Really yummy food ! Casual spot so don't dress up. Huge portions and good drinks I got the Chilled Boiled Shrimp and Award-Wining Seafood Gumbo and they were very good. Cheap

Clayton, a great waiter, we were seated quickly and ordered pretty fast on a sunday evening. The music was pleasant and not too loud. Not loud enough to drown out that person that wants to use their speaker phone so every table around them can listen to their converstion. I did not need to know he made it to the airport, just sayin. We both ordered gumbo, it was tasty as always. I had the shrimp po boy, way too much food for me to finish but tasty. She had the salmon salad, very tasty as well. We finished up with a brownie and ice cream, ok we ate to much, but it was all good. The consistent service and food quality here is earning them a 5th star for this visit.

We had a baby shower for our co-worker here recently. We called in advance and the manager and staff were amazing. Angela our waitress made sure we were taken care. The food and the service were excellent with amazing comfortable ambiance. The manager Colton was super cool and nice. Perfect room for a party. I've been there before but not in a while. We will be back. Thank you all for making sure this was an awesome memory for our Mom-to-Be and the guests.

came from New York, and this was my first time visiting, and I couldn't have had a better experience. Stephen and Clayton were absolutely fantastic behind the bar, friendly, attentive, and full of great energy that made the whole visit even better. Their service was top notch from start to finish, making me feel right at home. The food was amazing too. The popcorn shrimp were perfectly crispy and flavorful, and the hush puppies were beyond incredible, easily the best I've ever had. I even tried my first raw oyster, and they guided me through it like pros. Between the awesome staff and delicious food, it was an unforgettable visit

Always delicious food and great service! Went recently for my dad's birthday and was surprised that they didn't give him a free desert or sing or anything. Other than that, it was a nice experience and would return. Love the convenient location and nice atmosphere.

Yummy every thing was absolutely delicious. Not pictured is the shrimp dinner paired with fried ocra and red beans and rice. All the seafood was fresh and seasoned well. Our server embodied the southern hospitality that is so welcoming.

Last minute decision and it was worth it. Service was friendly and quick. The food was delicious and big portions. The green tomato appetizer was alright. It was on the greasy side and pippin hot so be careful when biting into it. Overall, we would def come back for the fried platter.

We cannot say enough about Wintzell's Oyster House!! We chose to dine here two nights in a row because the food is exceptional and the service we received with our waitress and staff was beyond exceptional!!! Cassandra is one of the BEST waitresses we have ever met! She tended to our wants without hesitation and she was on her toes meeting our every need. The restaurant as well as customers are beyond blessed for such a wonderful worker like her! I can't say enough about her soulful personality and the person she is. We will be back to this place again when we drive in from Louisiana!! Thanks so much!!!

I guess it's a Mobile thing. I was not impressed with anything. I came in for lunch for some shrimp and oysters. I had the JO Platter, fried shrimp, oysters, fish, with a side of fried okra. Everything was cooked to death and the oil hasn't been changed in weeks. As you can imagine, I won't be returning for a second chance.

The seafood never disappoints, low country boil with big peel and eat shrimp, potatoes, corn on the cob and sausage. Just like you would do it at home. Cheeseburger also did not disappoint, but the seafood pasta was the highlight. Service was excellent and fast. Tuesday evening and the place was not packed, but comfortable.

It was really good. The oysters were great. The food was great. My Son and I had a nice dinner there and we truly enjoyed it. They just wasn't as many non-fried versions of seafood that I would have liked. Other than that, it was excellent.

Waiting on my to go order I placed at the hostess stand. Very pleasant young lady. IT's potentially dinner time 7:33pm on Saturday in the port city. And the restaurant isn't that busy. I have a taste for an Shrimp Poboy! Where else but Wintzell. I decided to grab a cold Heineken at the bar while I wait. Mind you I stood for awhile hoping the bartender would clean the bar where two customers just left. Noooooo. She eventually removed the dirty dishes, but never wiped the bar where I eventually sat down. Always always clean up after your guest leave because there is generally someone waiting to sit down and be served. I am hoping my to go order is hot and delicious. I going to be optimistic!

My wife and her down here for an event. Had a recommendation from the hotel. We stopped in and sat at the bar. Bartenders were Sandra and Stephen. Took food recommendations from them, my wife did the gumbo, would absolutely recommend it. I did fish of the day, red fish with a side of red beans and rice and they were both amazing. Service and conversation were awesome and the food was exemplary. Would absolutely go back.

Not a big seafood fan, so I tried to find a chicken dish. The chicken Alfredo was ok- could use more seasoning. The hush puppies, fried pickles, and fried green tomatoes were a hit! The waitress was also amazing! Will be trying the burger next time.

Don't mind paying a premium for "Sautéed Crab Claws" if the food is worth it. Worst crab claw I have ever had. Service was meh at best. Should have gone to the downtown location instead. This place is not for me.

I went to the West Mobile location, and was pleasantly surprised. I ordered, the oyster plate, which consisted of 16 cooked oysters with various flavors. They were delicious, and I can't believe I only paid $28 for this many oysters. Bread was provided before the meal, and the service was very timely. I will definitely return.

They should stick to oysters. The low country boil was such a sad experience. I happened to be in Mobile to take care of some business. Figured I'd try some seafood boil and some grilled oysters. So first off, we asked to be moved because the high top we were sat at next to the restrooms were terrible. We kept getting wafts of urine so that needed to change. Then there was a kerfuffle regarding the wait staff and who was going to be our server now, since had ordered drinks already. Anyway, we ordered some grilled oysters which were delicious and ok. Not over the top or anything. Then the boil was a huge disappointment. It was literally just boiled in a bag which it what it's supposed to be but absolutely NO flavor or seasoning at all. Nothing. So lame. So we asked for them to redo it with some flavor. So we ended up with the same bag with a few sprinkles of old bay or something like it. So terrible. I've had amazing boils in Virginia so I know what "sopping up with the potato"delicious should be like!! This place was not it.

Highly recommend Wintzell's Oyster House in Mobile, AL. The service and food were awesome!

I did a bit of a Third Coast tour for my birthday and this was my first stop. I was really sleep on Mobile as a city but this place is amazing. I'd been to another location of Wyntzell's before so I was familiar with the restaurant. To start off I ordered some blue crab claws and chargrilled oysters. Both of these appetizers were good but the blue crab claws were really something special. The claws were meaty and I loved the butter sauce. I also has the fried green tomatoes. All three appetizers were very good. For dessert, I had the key lime pie. It didn't have as much flavor as what I'm used to but it was still pretty good. I would recommend this place to anyone visiting Mobile.

I love coming here, and I always stop when here for business. The chargrilled oysters are divine.

A Mobile AL staple, they have a fun atmosphere, good food and drinks. I enjoyed the lunch special, Southern Shrimp BLT with loaded baked potato. The market prices for the raw oysters and crab claws were pretty high, but that does fluctuate. The staff was kind, and there were only a few of us in at that time. Always a solid choice!

This is a wonderful seafood restaurant. All the food is good and large meals. I like all their fresh seafood. Everything tastes so very good. Prices are reasonable for huge meals and good service.

I understand. This place has been around forever, but I have to tell you I was not impressed with the airport Boulevard location. Although the greeters were friendly, and the bartender was nice, I was just disappointed in the food. I sat up at the bar and ordered their oyster combo, which is four oysters of their Rockefeller, Bienville and the chargrilled for a total of 12 oysters. Not what the reviews say on yelp that indicates 16 oysters. But honestly, I'm glad it was only 12. The oysters were just not firm and plump. They were soft and mealy tasting. And even though they were covered up with spinach on one and cheese on the other and jalapeños and bacon on the other, they were just pretty nasty. I also ordered a loaded baked potato and thank goodness I did. I may have caught them on a bad night, it wasn't busy, although a large group of guys came in so the waiters pulled all of these tables together, screeching them on the ground annoyingly. For a place that has been around decades I just would've expected the food to be better. And maybe it is better at the original location on dauphin Street downtown.

This is our second time coming and we absolutely love the kind service and food. I always have to get the gumbo (requisite, hello!) because it's just so dang comforting. I ordered the half and half (did you know you can choose how you want it prepared) with fried fish and grilled shrimp. The coleslaw was refreshing and tasty and the hot crispy fried okra makes my mouth happy. My dining companion chose fried catfish strips with a side salad and okra - he loved it all. The bread pudding we shared - that HOT RUM SAUCE drenching up that little square of rich goodness - ooh chile!!! Yes please! We gonna order that every time. Our server was fabulous - so kind and accommodating. I did notice the difference of service here (compared to the downtown location) - this place has the superior staff - indeed. Can't wait to come back !

This was a quick stop to grab oyster and check out this place. Oyster were good. I felt a little weird when so people didn't keep any social distancing and it was very loud. So our stay was very very short!

I got fried fish with fries & hushpuppies. The hushpuppies were good, & fries are fries, but the fried fish was a let down. I like hard a fry, but the cuts were weird & it was hard. The flesh was weirdly mushy. The bread they serve is also limp. It's a nice scene, & the service was above average, but I will need to go again & give it another try.

Always stop here for that last seafood meal before my flight. I love Thor oysters, shrimp, and fried okra. The creole pasta was delicious as well. The added perk.... They have a lunch menu that last until 4:00 p.m.

Amazing place for happy hour! 3-7 pm, every day. I was looking for a place that had dollar oysters, and I found more than that here. $7.50 for a dozen raw oysters. $6 for 8 wings. $2 for beer, $3 for wine, $4 for well. While waiting for food they brought us some bread. Mmm I love carbs. Oysters were nice and fresh. They threw in an extra for me since they were a little small that day. Wings were huge and delish. We picked mango habanero, but they also come in buffalo and citrus. Service was great! I just want to bring Mobile happy hour deals back to SF.

Everything was amazing. I waitress was amazing., Brandy was top! Everyone was great! We had a dozen oysters and they were so good we ordered another 1/2 dozen. My husband had the JO broiled seafood platter and I had the shrimp platter! Everything was wonderful. Can not recommend enough. Would give it a 10 if I could. Bloody Mary was outstanding as well. Don't walk run to this place!

We went in for dinner last night and had a really good meal. The oysters were top notch and all of the other seafood and sides were tasty as well. My husband said the fried okra was especially good. Between the oyster sampler and the J.O. Platter we had enough food to share between two people and still leave with full bellies.

The raw oysters were both fresh and delicious; reasonably priced as well. The bacon wrapped shrimp was also delicious. Our server was both prompt and attentive. Overall this was a worthwhile experience.

Great Food, staff and ambience! I love the oyster sampler. My husband gets the steak, and its better than any of the steak houses.

Had a good lunch today. The lunch prices are good, and they offer a variety of seafood either grilled or fried. I had the fish tacos with a side salad. The salad is your run of the mill iceberg lettuce and grape tomatoes, and the tacos were flour tortillas with a lot of salsa (seasoned well). Our food took a while to get after ordering so they brought some bread to the table, which was very nice. Overall, I liked the lunch options but thought some were a bit highly priced. The waitress was very nice. A little slow but that's most likely staffing - just happy they were able to be open. The other person ordered the grilled shrimp basket with a baked potato and said that was good as well. Ambience was interesting with the signs and such. Locals place for sure from the lunch crowd.

we were golfing at the Robert Trent Jones Magnolia Course. for dinner we found Wintzell's and were delighted with this restaurant. the service was great, the food was also great. you could tell that a lot of locals come here. we love going to local places instead of the chains. my popcorn shrimp must have been 3 dozen. I am embarrassed that I ate them all. my husband had the red snapper and love it. if we come through Mobile again we will go to Wintzell's

The ambiance was fun and inviting, however the food was just ok and the prices were way to high for the quality of the food. We ordered the oyster sampler, broiled seafood platter, shrimp po'boy, fish po'boy, raw oysters, bacon wrapped shrimp and the wings and spent more than I expected. I must say the raw oysters were on the happy hour menu and they were priced exceptionally well. I would not recommend this restaurant because it just didn't do anything for me and the po'boys lacked seasoning. Very bland. We also krdered the gumbo and it was flavorless. Standard ordinary food with high prices.

OMG this place is awesome!!!!! Sooo many different types of oysters and for an awesome price. We got a dozen of each of the platters- regular raw oysters, chargrilled, Rockefeller, bienville, Monterey, and carnival. They were all delicious! All of the oysters were fresh and a good size. Definitely worth the money. I wish Cali had these type of prices! My favorite was the Monterey because well, BACON. We got some of the sides like fried green tomatoes and things which were all okay and good companions to the stars of the show. I would say your tummy would be much happier just getting an extra dozen of the regular oysters as opposed to the fillers unless you really need to mix it up. Great happy hour prices which save you a bit more. $2/pint or $3/y'all and 7.50/oysters. Service was average and we had to flag them down a few times. I'd also agree with the other reviews that the servers aren't as familiar/vocal with the menu. Would definitely come back if I'm back in mobile!
