SF’s Wise Sons Signs Lease in Former Amacita - Eater LA

"San Francisco’s Wise Sons Jewish Delicatessen is moving into the former Amacita space in Culver City. It’s a timely win for Southern California, especially after a recent New York Times story claimed California (and Los Angeles) has better bagels than everywhere else." - Mona Holmes

Google
Authentic Jewish food, but perhaps too authentic for us. The pastrami and corned beef sandwiches have a good amount of meat but they're too dry to eat alone without a beverage, choking hazard. Might be a good idea to ask them to toast your items. The bagels are good but small compared to the sandwiches for the amount of toppings. Great hangout spot though

Google
YUMMY - vegan cream cheese and tons of options for those who are/aren’t vegan/vegetarian. Cute shop with a commitment to quality ingredients and kindness ❤️ would recommend the everything bagel with vegan cream cheese and avocado!

The food was fantastic and the wait staff was incredibly welcoming! The atmosphere is very casual and we were greated by the owner, Christopher, as soon as we arrived. We got the chicken schnitzel and the kimchi Reuben with a side of fries and hash potatoes. The chicken had a wonderful crust and the soft challah bread complimented it very well. Manny, our server, recommended the rye bread. To our delight the kimchi on the Reuben was not at all overpowering and blended well with everything else on the sandwich. The fries had a wonderful crust but were too lightly seasoned for my taste. Thankfully each table is provided a salt and pepper shaker. Overall it was a wonderful experience and will be coming back.

Friendly staff. Responsive, caring, and fast service. Tasty food. Love their salmon shmear. Catering available. Seating inside seemed like it may be tight for larger groups, but we were only two.

So very good. I had the chicken Snitzel sandwich and lakes. Both were absolutely perfect. Coming from Raleigh NC there aren't any Jewish Delis. I left full and satisfied.

I went in to order take out Matzoball soup ... I walked out without it. First off the staff member taking amd ringing up the order was completely unwelcoming and unfriendly. Clearly did not want to be there. Also had no respect for me as a customer. I simply asked for the Matzo ball to be packaged separately from the soup so it did not fall apart. Many dell's do this for take out. The staff member kept saying she didn't know how they could do it. It would dry out. I had a 25 minute drive. It was not an unreasonable request. But she kept arguing without even inquiring with the guys preparing the food. Her whole attitude was bad. I can not recommend this deli based on god awful customer service. There are many other choices in Culver city We picked Moto Ramen they even brought the order to the car with a smile!

Google
Their crunchy spice bagel is incredible! Really loved the ambience as well. A nice place to meet up with friends for breakfast or lunch.

Yelp
I was very sad when I went by today for some stuff for my "Break Fast" I was surprised and felt awful that the place closed. When I went on their website and saw one of the reasons was the change of traffic pattens. Well, this roads in this part of Culver City is by far the most effed up of lanes, permanent cones, colors in the road for different types of vehicles. It is so NUTS it is beyond crazy. I hate coming to this area because of that. Now that this place closed because folks really couldn't get to the place looks like the truth. What a disaster by the Culver City government and those idiot politicians and transportation leaders in this area of what is a pretty nice town.

Yelp
- Bagel sando with mushrooms was well salted, good umami from the mushrooms. This was the favorite - Chili crunch sando didn't have any standout flavors. Could not taste the aioli. Pretty oily - Apple butter with the latkes was unique and delish - Seemed to have ran out of half the bagel flavors by noon on Saturday - Cute interior setting, great for people watching outside

Yelp
Delicious!! And in a super cute area of culver city. Service was fast, and the inside is very cute and clean. We went for the restaurant week special, which was $25 for a pastrami Reuben, side of coleslaw, and 6 bagels with shmear. The bagels look really good, and the coleslaw beat out Langer's for me as my favorite in LA. The pastrami was flavorful and packed on the sandwich, with sauerkraut and crispy bread. I'll have to come back for their signature coffee. Their homemade pickle hot sauce was surprisingly REALLY good on my latkes. Your main takeaway should be that Langer's latkes were $24, and here they're $4.50 and better. I really recommend going here for a walk around the surrounding area, and the inside is a perfect fusion of modern aesthetic and a traditional deli. Overall a really positive experience!

Yelp
Wise Sons touches down from SF and brings Jewish eats to Culver City. We stopped by on a Saturday morning and there was plenty of indoor and outdoor seating though we were ordering to go. You order at the front and it was chill service and took about a 5 min wait for food. The Yosemite sandwich was a classic comforting egg and sausage sandwich and the latke was a nice supplement. Dece good and place to have some casual breakfast.

Yelp
Really glad I tried this spot out for Dine LA! I had the chicken schnitzel sandwich with fries, along with half a dozen bagels and schmear. Everything was great! Loved the sandwich and the fries were crispy. I also enjoyed the bagels with schmear. Service was super friendly and the restaurant is cute inside. Plus with outdoor seating as well. There's a big parking garage across the street that's easy to find spots. I'd definitely like to return to try the breakfast sandwiches!

Yelp
A quick, easy place to grab a bite in Culver!!! I don't normally eat gluten, but obviously the moment to sacrifice it is with a bagel! Unfortunately in this case, I don't know if the gluten sacrifice was worth it. The bagel was not super special, and I went in with really high hopes that were only partially met. I think I'd get a GF bagel and cream cheese next time.

Yelp
Wow! What a treat. I found this on the LA restaurant week website and was really drawn to the value of the meal plus bagels and Schmear. I haven't had a chance to try the bagels but let me just say - these latkes are amazing. Such a delicious crispy exterior and huge -- the applesauce is such a fun flavor. Will definitely come back for these. The Reuben is great - the pastrami is so moist and the rye bread is clearly fresh. Love the coleslaw too - a really nice sweet and tangy flavor. The service was quick - we got our food in like 5 minutes and the restaurant has a cute and trendy vibe that would be fun to sit in with friends or even alone enjoying the day. All in all, I'll be back!

Yelp
I stopped in for a weekday lunch and was greeted right away by their friendly employees. Me and my friend decided to order two different sandwiches and share half half so we could try more items. I went with the OG Reuben & potato salad while she went with the Club Sandwich & the coleslaw. We grabbed our numbers and went to grab a seat and waited for our orders which came out pretty fast. The Reuben was stuffed with plenty of meat and the pastrami was a bit on the salty side but was super delicious. I loved their potato salad with the little bits of crunch added in and I was a super fan of their pickles. The club was good but I don't know if it was anything special and could barely taste the meat in it. I'm glad we got to check out this place for lunch but I don't know how often I would return as it was on the pricier side for a sandwich.

Yelp
Ugh I wanted to love this place. My husband especially was so excited when he saw a new Jewish deli opened in Culver City. Sadly we both left disappointed. It's downtown Culver City so most likely you're not going to find street parking. There are several parking garage is in the area, so you should not have a problem. The staff is very friendly & the store is very clean. That's pretty much the only plus side to our experience. We both ordered the 405 Sunrise. I was shocked we were served what tasted like frozen potatoes from the local grocery store. The eggs were bland & the entire plate was served like warm. Which was odd because we were the only people in there. The bagels didn't taste stale but they didn't exactly taste fresh either. The best part of the dish was the crispy pastrami bacon. The coffee is self serve from a station. It was COLD. A deli that serves cold coffee? The pastrami bacon was good but that's not enough to get me to go back. Shame.

Yelp
Get the chicken schnitzel sandwich ... I've never a fried chicken with that type of batter. Check out my photo ... It was SO GOOD! White meat chicken tenderness was on point. The bun was a perfect complement to the crunch texture of the chicken. We also got a slice of the chocolate babka ... which was ok. Pretty dry Nonetheless, go check 'em out and support! My friend got the potato latkes and said it was a must. So that's on my list for my next visit.

Yelp
SUCH A FIRE BREAKFAST. i love a good bagel sandwich; the veggie bagel was so good that i went home & recreated. slightly pricey for a bagel tho :l

Yelp
We went here for dinner on Friday night and we were the only diners around 7pm. You order at a counter inside and there is both indoor and patio seating. I ordered some kind of everything bagel sandwich that included eggs, cheese, some type of lettuce and a chili oil. I also ordered it with crispy pastrami, though it originally didn't come out with it and they brought it to me on the side. I thought it was just okay and I was not a fan of the crispy pastrami, was a little too "jerky" like for my taste. My partner got the tuna melt and he enjoyed it. We ordered a side of fries and a side of hash potatoes - both sides were huge and very crispy. Street parking and parking lots nearby on Cardiff and Culver. Dog/pet friendly
google avatar

Richard L.

Yelp
Basically smaller portions but still tasty. I purchased the Pastrami. I liked the flavors but just toooo darn salty for my taste. I wish this place the best but I personally think you need to make some improvements in many aspects. More welcoming would be a good place to start. I may come back and try some other items in the future.

Yelp
This was definitely the highlight of this year's LA restaurant week! My schnitzel sandwich was outstanding, as well as my husband's pastrami sandwich. Served alongside perfectly crispy fries and half a dozen bagels each to go with a container of smear, flavor of your choice. Everything was better than any Jewish deli we have had in the past, even some of the oldest famous local institutions. We will be back in the future to try more, definitely a meal to remember! Highly recommend it!

Yelp
My coworker treated me to Wise Sons, since I had never tried it. The price usually put me off, and I didn't want it to become a thing where the price didn't match what I was expecting. I didn't want to be disappointed. Well, I was pleasantly surprised. It wasn't the absolute best I've had, but it was definitely better than some other places. I had The Purist with pastrami and a side of fries. The pastrami was cut perfectly. It was wonderful and warm and juicy. It was a nice balance of lean meat with just a tiny of fatty pieces. The rye bread was fresh and soft with a chewy crust. I'm more of a brown mustard type of person, but even the bright yellow mustard worked on the sandwich. I wasn't wild about the pickles, though. The fries were good, too. Even for a takeout order they held up well without getting soggy in the container. Overall, I would probably go back. My brain still has a hitch with the price of it, but it's right there at justifiably good.

Yelp
Basically a semi fast food deli. You order at counter, sit down and wait for your food to be brought to your table. They have a water station so you can grab your own. The bagel and lox and potato latke were yum. Perfect place to grab a quick bite.

Yelp
Was super excited to try this spot out. They're fairly well known in the Bay Area and beyond as a great Jewish deli. They've been making tons of "best of" lists including on Eater LA. But this was super disappointing. Maybe the saddest pastrami sandwich I've ever had. Granted, it was $12 instead of the usual $16-$18 at most delis, but it was so small. Very thinly sliced pastrami, served flat and cold. Wasn't expecting a cold sandwich, nor one that tiny. The rye was decent, but the ratio to pastrami was way off. Maybe 60% bread. Flavor of the pastrami was ok. Someone across from me ordered a pastrami and theirs looked more traditional- piled on and hot. I asked a waitress what the difference was with what I ordered and she said "Yeah could just be different. Not sure." OK. Well, me neither. Either I got the wrong order or they are incredibly inconsistent? Also tried a potato pancake. $4 for one. Nothing special about it. Looked golden and crispy, but it was rather bland. You order at the counter and then have to walk back through the line to get to a table. Which is also where the person bringing food out to tables stands. Awkward. Wanted to love this spot. Was excited to come back and try the pastrami burger. But I think I'll skip it
google avatar

Caitlin O.

Yelp
Really good bagels but barely any cream cheese. Fresh and creative ingredients though. Just wish they'd be a bit more generous on the CC for a $13-15 bagel.
google avatar

Samantha T.

Yelp
This is a 4.5, but ended up on 4 because i think the sandwiches are a tad pricier than i would like. Still really, really good and i like the bagels a lot but just don't love paying a premium price for a bagel sandwich. Would go back if craving a bagel

Yelp
Some of these early reviews are a bit negative so I'm here to say I thought Wise Sons was better than advertised! I came by on a Sunday afternoon and we ordered 2 items, which we took to the beach to eat. Both held up well! - Classic smoked salmon closed bagel sandwich, which included capers and red onion ($11) on an onion bagel: yes, it was a bit on the small side but I thought that the bagel was nicely toasted with a lot of onion seasoning on the outside. The salmon was good and there was a decent amount of capers and red onion. - The OG Reuben with Russian dressing, Swiss and sauerkraut ($14): THIS was the star. The rye flavor of the bread was nicely balanced. The pastrami was thin cut but delicious and juicy, and the Swiss and sauerkraut complemented it perfectly. Even half of it was quite filling. I'd come back for this sandwich! It also came with two pickle spears (more like new pickles, or half sour).

Yelp
One of the best bagels I've had in my life. For some personal information on probably why my experience here was so wonderful I have to say I'm pretty disconnected from my Ashkenazi heritage and didn't grow up with Jewish foods. A friend and I went on a Monday for lunch and had a swell time. The latkes were crunchy and soft and the chocolate chip cookie was incredible. I do have a soft spot in my heart for these kinds of foods, carb-loaded with care. The bagels lasted only two days in my apartment as they fit perfectly in my toaster and were a treat to look forward to. Lots of locals but as always with Culver City parking is an absolute confusing mystery.

S R.

Yelp
i knew they wouldn't last...tried them out once...they delivered an undersized corned beef(ordered pastrami) in a loose paper box...sandwich was cold small and tired looking...and now they vanish into the abyss hopefully joined soon by the other hipster shitholes that rip their customers off and only acknowledge their mistakes when you publicly roast them
google avatar

Pauline M.

Yelp
Excellent matzo ball soup, delicious reuben pastrami. All in all wise sons is an excellent add to downtown culver. The bagels aren't the best in terms of the bagel itself but the lox is still a good breakfast. Definitely will come back for matzo ball and sandwiches

Yelp
Wise Sons Jewish Deli is located at the corner of Washington and Culver in Culver City, with parking at the Watseka structure. Wise Sons Jewish delicatessen describes itself as: 'California-inspired Jewish deli food with roots in tradition and an eye on the future; for Jews who like food and food lovers who like Jews.' This is the first Jewish deli I am aware of in this area, that opened recently. For a late Sunday morning my friend and I decided to drive to Culver City, which is about 10 minutes away from Beverly Hills. Wise deli already was crowded busy, but the line to order moved quickly. You order at the counter, pay and take a number to your seat indoor or outdoor and your order will be served. The deli restaurant was clean, with concrete floors and eclectic decor of country bumpkin meets grandma's stuff mixed media. The tableware had large metal cans with the silverware and napkins. Our food was served minutes later on earthenware dishes...yay! Because at my local Jewish deli in Beverly Hills; Nate n Al's all food is still served in paper plates and plastic utensils so I don't frequent that deli. Here, We ordered the matzo ball soup, the pastrami Reuben with a side of potato salad. We wanted to try their French fries, but were informed that the kitchen was out of many items including potatoes for the fries. This deli claims to make nearly everything in house and do not use preservatives, artificial additives or hormones, very California. They brine and prepare the pastrami meat and bake the rye bread. I eat Jewish deli food regularly and had to subjectively judge.. The matzo ball soup was not good; lacked flavor in every sense. The broth had no dept, no chicken bone broth taste, I had to season it with every spice on the table including the hot sauce to taste palatable for me to continue eating it. The matzo ball topped with fresh sprig of dill herb looked good but also tasted blah. The potato salad just needed black pepper but was flavorfully balanced and good, the homemade taste comes through. Lastly, the OG pastrami Reuben was their version of a sky high with toasted rye bread, Russian dressing, sauerkraut and pastrami. First bite was delicious, the meat was seasoned nicely, not greasy, not too salty and very tender. The rye bread could use more rye, because the rye was too subtle. The side of two spears of pickles were very Frugal other delis are more generous and give a dish full of pickles. The pastrami meat made with beef brisket was seasoned well and balanced flavors. Was not as sky high as I'd like, meaning I wanted this sandwich to be BIGGER just as other Jewish delis makes sky high sandwiches. Service by the staff upon ordering, serving and requests for additional was courteous, attentive and nice. Staff wore face masks. The tables were cleared and cleaned quickly. The deli staff seemed to work efficiently and didn't make us feel rushed. This deli is on restaurant row and competes with a variety of food choices from varying cultures and price points. And most diners appear to be 20-40's and a very casual vibe. Indoor seating with all doors open for more air ventilation. Dog friendly outdoor patio seating. With the flavorless matzo ball soup and limp pickles as among key Jewish food items and somehow failed to impress, I will be generous with my 4 star rating as everything else was a very nice effort and great start for a welcome addition to Culver City. Will return to try the bagels and schmear of lox. Recommend.

Yelp
Love the decor and also love the location I'm downtown Culver City. Given some of the reviews I was a little apprehensive about ordering the pastrami, but it was tasty. It was a normal sized sandwich for a normal human. It didn't have the typical pepper crust which is the hallmark top shelf pastrami but still tasty. Just know that fries or coke slaw are additional. My lunch compasión had an amazing tuna melt. All in a great bite if you're in the area.
google avatar

Char L.

Yelp
I wanted to love this place, but the sandwiches were so inconsistent in terms of the amount of meat. We had ordered 2 OG Ruben pastrami sandwiches to go and one was piled high with pastrami and made me feel like this.is.a.satisfying.sandwich. The other sandwich had a sad, thin layer of pastrami less than half the height of the other. What the heck! How can they be so different? The sandwich came with sauerkraut but again somehow it was so little I didn't taste much of the sauerkraut. My advice would be to check your sandwiches before you leave the store if you're taking it to go.

Yelp
I was craving deli food and remembered I his place nearby in downtown Culver. The reviews were mixed so I decided to try it for myself. I really really wanted it to be good. It was an hour before closing and I was the only customer. I checked out the menu online before I came so I knew what I wanted. Matzo ball soup to satisfy the craving. My go to - a corned beef Reuben and a last minute decision to get a pair of potato latkes. After ordering, I took a seat and admired the great view. Everything came pretty fast and all together which was fine. The matzo ball soup had a very dark broth, not the traditional clear chicken broth, I was a little concerned. I tasted it and it had what seemed to be a beefy taste but very bland otherwise. I added salt and pepper and hoped it would help. The matzo ball was really firm but had some flavor. I took a few more tastes but the broth just ruined it for me. It was terrible. The latkes were really over cooked. The Reuben had thin sliced corned beef that was dry, leathery and very tough. I added a little extra Russian dressing joint to moisten it up (they charged me an extra $.50 without mentioning the additional cost). I couldn't finish it. I packed it to go - I have no idea why, I knew I would just trash it later. It had to be the most disappointing meal I'd had in a vey long time. Honestly, it was pretty awful. There was literally nothing about this place that was traditional except maybe the decor. Next time, I'll take my craving to a deli across town, despite a drive to get my deli fix because this just wasn't it.

Yelp
I was excited to hear/read a new deli was opening nearby so when Wise Sons finally opened I went fairly immediately and I've been back a couple of other times. I did read the very early reviews that skewed a bit "meh" but wasn't dissuaded. Place is done up nicely with indoor and outdoor seating. Launch menu has a bit of something for every deli lover with an all-day menu. So far I've had the "19" tribute to Langers, Challah French Toast, Popeye breakfast sandwich, fries, Latkes and a few of their bagels (spread across a few trips). The food is good. The 19 strongly reminds me of the Langer's original however has less Pastrami (while still being adequate for most appetites). That being said, it's 4 or 5 dollars less expensive. I didn't find it overly salty like others have commented. Challah French toast was fine, not exceptional. Be sure to ask them to put all the accoutrements on the side if you don't want it smothered with jam. Popeye breakfast sandwich was also good. Latkes were a bit disappointing - just OK. I'll try them one more time to see if my first experience was a fluke. Bagels are on the small side and not dense. They're $2 each though. Food came quickly even though two of the meals were during lunch "rush hour." Overall, a solid addition to the LA deli scene.

Yelp
Best Jewish deli in Los Angeles hands-down!!!! Word of advice is to look at the reviews that have the lowest ratings and do not order what they ordered ( if you look and see most people seem to be dissatisfied with pastrami sandwich) or if you do keep in mind the portion size. This is not your typical large portion saturated fat and sodium joint ! My recommendation is to get the club sandwich! It's The best club I ever had. Also don't forget a side of pickle brine hot sauce and ketchup which you should mix together and dip your side of fries and sandwich in ... and then you can thank me later!!! I'm also a fan of their salt and pepper bagels with scallion cream cheese !!! I'll admit this place is a little bit pricey but I'm not surprised given the quality of ingredients And the touch of refinement that is really noticeable with their brined meat such as pastrami and pickles and cucumbers . Nothing is super salty all over the top tangy as you're used to with most run-of-the-mill places. The food here actually taste like someone cares about you . Check them out !!

Yelp
It's closed. Out of business. Sign on the door 9/2/23. Can't say more about it, but they apparently threw in the towel at the end of August.

Yelp
Place hits the spot! Good meal, reasonable prices and great service. I would definitely go again.

Yelp
Delicatessans keep disappearing, so I was pretty excited to see Wise Sons open up a location in Culver City. I was going to place a takeout order online, but when I saw the prices were more than the listed menu ones, I phoned my order in. I waited in line to pick up and pay for my order, which was ready. When I looked in the bag, I saw my choice, a smoked salmon bagel ($11), wrapped in brown paper. It was small - even smaller than my hand (and I have tiny hands) - and knew that I was going to be hungry. The everything bagel was covered in toppings on both the top and bottom (good) but I had difficulty biting into it. The exterior was super chewy and the bagel was on the dense side - not my preference. The smoked salmon was fine, nothing revelatory, with cream cheese, capers and some thinly sliced red onions. My husband's smoked trout sandwich ($12.75) was a better bang for the buck and came with a couple of pickle spears. It was served on rye bread, which had so few caraway seeds that it almost could have passed for white bread. I wish I had liked the food more because there are so few delis left. My husband, however, enjoyed his sandwich, so maybe I'll give them another chance. Metered street parking and free 1-hour parking in the Watseka public parking lot.

Yelp
Stopped by here after the gym with my buddies and Wise Sons did not disappoint. My friends got bagels and I got the breakfast burrito. Quinn was so kind and helped us out with recommendations for what to order. The breakfast burrito was great! It had pastrami which isn't usually in most breakfast burritos, but it was surprisingly good. I'll definitely be back to try more!!

Yelp
I love Wise Sons and I'm so surprised that some of these other reviews don't reflect that! Maybe it's because I'm from the Bay Area and this place reminds me of the Bay in the best way. It's modern without being trendy, unfussy while still being clean and bright and comfortable. The kind of place that keeps cutlery in an old coffee can on each table. But most importantly, the food is amazing. I usually get the vegetarian reuben, and the thinly sliced mushrooms are a great meat replacement. They're always juicy, peppery, and full of umami. The rye bread is always perfectly crispy and buttery with a really good flavor without being TOO overpoweringly rye flavored. I'm also obsessed with the apricot rugelach. The dough is so buttery and flaky. The apricot tastes so fresh and is just very lightly sweetened. I normally wouldn't order something apricot flavored when the chocolate option is right there, but my coworker got me one, and now I'm hooked. I'm so happy to have a Jewish deli where I can enjoy a thoughtful vegetarian option with my meat eating coworkers - they love the pastrami and the schnitzel. Food always comes out super quick which makes it a good workday lunch option. Parking right next to the restaurant is TERRIBLE, but there's plenty of parking on Venice. Just park there and walk, you'll thank me later.

Yelp
I noticed a whole lot of crybaby reviewers nitpicking this restaurant attempting to justify low ratings. I have never had a bad experience here in the many times I've gone. Food has always been quality and the staff helpful. Highly recommend the downtown combo.

Yelp
Breakfast was excellent. Service very good. Ambiance very nice. I also bought bagels, chopped liver, rye bread and cornbeef to go. Bagels and chopped liver were great. Cornbeef was fatty and greasy.

Yelp
I've ordered pickup from Wise Sons a couple times and they haven't disappointed on the food. They are pretty expensive though, $16 for a sandwich which comes with half a pickle. I've had the Number 19 pastrami sandwich and the turkey club sandwich, and matzo soup. Really loved the crispy pastrami on the turkey club!

Yelp
I want to like this place, and have tried SO hard. But every time I go, I'm disappointed. I can not understand why they don't serve their bagels open faced. And the bagels are NEVER TOASTED- even if you order them from the "toasted bagel" section of the menu.... EVEN IF YOU ASK THEM TO TOAST IT! It's a shame, but there are too many other options nearby who serve open faced bagels with a working toaster.

Yelp
First of all, thank you for bringing a Jewish deli back to Culver City. Second: holy wow. How the heck did I make it 51.6 years without crispy pastrami? This is geeeenius! 405 Scramble I think it's called.I'm gonna call that delicious crispy pastrami "Jewish bacon." Nom nom

Yelp
Finally! Downtown Culver City is only becoming more and more well rounded. We finally got a jewish deli. I got lucky with parking but I foresee problems during busy hours which is probably why I never see this place at capacity. Great corner spot to grab a bite if you're willing to walk from one of the parking structures. Sitting on the patio gives you views of the hustle and bustle that can be downtown Culver City. I came here for breakfast and was surprised to find two breakfast sandwich options so I tried The Bodega. I got it a la carte with cheddar cheese. The simple aioli, cheese and egg pressed between a fresh bagel was comforting. The service was fast and the restaurant was clean. Next time I visit, I want to try the Latkes and Matzo Ball soup. If you're in the area, give this a try.

Yelp
Saw this new deli featured on KTLA Channel 5 News; they showcased their pastrami sandwich which looked amazing so I couldn't wait to give this "deli" a try. - Huge disappointment! First thing I noticed, the workers do NOT wear plastic gloves while handling food. Aside from being gross, Is this even legal? - While waiting for my order, I watched one of the cooks wipe her nose with the back of her hand and then continue to prepare food instead of stopping to go wash her hands! - My sandwich was extremely thin with 5 slices of extremely fatty pastrami, a tiny dab of Russian Dressing and 1/2 a teaspoon of coleslaw. Definitely NOT a stacked deli style sandwich and nothing like the sandwich they showcased on the news.

Yelp
Everything on the menu is fantastic. The bagels and latkes or a delicious affordable breakfast, oh yeah and they make the cream cheese in house! My favorite is the salmon cream cheese. The pastrami sandwiches are so good my wife thought I drove downtown to get Langers. I'm so lucky that this place is near my house I'm going to eat everything on the menu. Highly recommended with a super friendly staff.

Yelp
It seems glib to say that anything is the worst whatever it is that someone is reviewing, but Wise Sons has surpassed itself. A simple enough order: hot pastrami on lightly toasted rye with muenster cheese, cole slaw, iced coffee and a piece of cinnamon babka. I would have had an egg cream but they didn't know what that was. They also don't carry Dr. Brown's sodas - even Pink's does! An available table needed to be cleaned so we could sit but the deli 'engineer' wasn't capable of cleaning it on one go; leaving crumbs on the table top and the chairs. Let's break this down; the pastrami wasn't hot, the rye wasn't toasted, the muenster wasn't there. The pastrami wasn't as good as the packaged stuff from Costco and the portion was insultingly small. There is no mustard on the table and a request for mustard results in a plastic packet of Gulden's. The coleslaw was insipid and when I asked if they had any vinegar or horseradish to give it some flavor they didn't have any. The iced coffee had all the zest and bite of a glass of water and the babka was dry and tasteless. The two skinny pickle slices were soft and fairly tasteless. Like eating toilet paper. I'm not a New Yorker, but I have shopped at Zabar's and eaten at Katz's, etc. I was not expecting it be as good as Brent's or Langer's, but I was expecting it to be approximately as good as Canter's or Izzy's - even if it wouldn't be as good as Label's Table was (just to name a few of the other places that are or aren't existent at this time). As noted, it was the worst deli I've ever experienced. Buyer beware. EDIT: Response to WS owner: You're high if you think I'd give you another nickel in the hopes you didn't rip me off a second time... See photo of what a hot pastrami sandwich is *supposed* to look like, taken yesterday at Brent's in Northridge...

Yelp
This place gave me mixed feelings. I had the latkes, which were good. I asked about the coffee and the man taking my order was honest and said it was mediocre. He was right. But I didn't realize until three sips on my cup was dirty. I ordered two latkes. One was brought out. The remedied that fast. I feel like this place could be 5 stars if they work on upping their coffee game (it's a breakfast place! You NEED to have great coffee), attention to detail (clean your coffee cups). But service was excellent and the latkes hit the spot.

Yelp
I've been to their location in San Francisco many times and I've been waiting for this. Man, what a letdown. They are in a large, lovely old building. But the inside dining area is very small and not comfortably laid out. I guess most of the building is used for baking. The wall of old photos seems inauthentic here.... frames seem way too new. Not like it is in SF. Awful music like Michael Jackson's Thriller blares and sounds like they are playing some cheap radio station, rather than streaming something cool. I know they just opened but wow, you wait for your food here. Like 25 minutes. There is a smiling, chatty, unobservant manager walking around but he doesn't interact with the people who might need him. I had to stop him walking past me to ask about our food. He said it would be quite a bit longer and did offer us a drink... but only because I caught him. He never looked at us or checked on us again.. We finally received some food but only got our matza ball soup because I asked a runner for it about 5 times. Otherwise it would have been lost in the chaos and we wouldn't have. Manager was chatting with other people during all of this. The food is good... turkey Reuben was small but the flavor is there, that's for sure. And that will make me give it another shot... probably. Comment below seems like it came from some telecenter.

Yelp
I ordered the kimchi Rueben. Full transparency: I ordered through a delivery service. I say that to say, food is almost ALWAYS better when you order at a restaurant and sit and eat it freshly made. First the packaging was awful. My food came in a paper box with the fold top lid completely open. And in a bag that was completely open as well. I don't know if this was their attempt to keep the bread crunchy after being toasted but the state it arrived INSTANTLY had me concerned about the access my delivery drive had to my food. It might sound crazy but i never thought about the false sense of security of a closed bag was giving me. Finally I decided to try and block that idea and eat the sandwich. It was a mess. It was DRENCHED in Russian dressing. The meat, I ordered it with corned beef, was super fatty but not in a good way, and chewy. The kicker was that I really don't think they added kimchi. I don't know what it was but it didn't taste like kimchi at all. The sandwich was REALLY expensive and just not worth it. I freely admit that my choice might've been a poor one but if you are going to advertise and sell an item, the sandwich was all over instagram, it should be good!

Yelp
My husband's comments in no particular order (we weren't previously familiar with Wise Sons): The first thing to note is that inside it smells like a proper Jewish deli, smelling like freshly toasted bagels with a hint of rye in the air. Everything is shiny and new - there's an enclose-able patio with heaters plus additional outdoor seating with umbrellas for shade. The menu is Westsider-friendly, with classics you would expect of a Jewish deli, but also a breakfast burrito and kim chi. If you were a hipster douchebag in 2003, aged but still douchey, the rather loud music would appeal to you. (Others requested that the volume be turned down and the music actually stopped while we ate). There is a sign that says "Pick up" over the door that is further from the corner - confusingly, that is actually where you order. Service was friendly though nothing particularly fast for a weekday, "have to get back to work" lunch. Someone came by to check on us after our order was delivered. The pickle was not anything special - "a supermarket pickle - watery." They understand the concept of a good toasted sandwich - the outside was nice and crisp, but the Kim chi Reuben ingredients were nothing special, though the Kim chi (mild, but better than plain cabbage) was novel. He said the pickled onions on my sandwich were significantly more vinegary than the pickles. As pictured, the chicken on my schnitzel sandwich was tasty but a bit small for the bun. It would have been nice if the challah bun had been warmed a little. 3.5 rounded down to 3 - hubby doesn't believe in grade inflation and was really disappointed in the pickles...and the music is back on...

Yelp
Used my credit card with their app and didn't consent to receive emails. Got marketing emails. Don't like that. Also food wasn't great. Nice staff though.
