The Best Happy Hours in Vancouver, Washington | Eater Portland

"For an elevated experience, the Witness Tree lounge, located at the top of Hotel Indigo, offers indoor and outdoor bird’s-eye views of the Columbia River. Happy hour runs Tuesday through Friday from 4 p.m to 6 p.m., a little later than the average Vancouver afternoon happy hour, thus allowing those who aren’t quite ready before 5 p.m. to partake. Discounted items include a Manhattan, a vodka martini, and a Martinez (which is like the happy marriage of a Manhattan and martini) for $8; wines for $7; draft beer for $6; smoked salmon and caper deviled eggs for $8; and pork belly with grilled corn succotash for $11." - Anastasia Sloan

Joel was amazing, very social and quick to learn our name and made it a fun personal interaction as a server. Granted it was a fast busy Friday night and it seemed the bartender was struggling to keep up and could have benefitted from some assistance. Joel went out of his way to converse and make sure we were taken care of. No food rating due to the fact we ate before arrival I’m sure the food was good from what I seen pass by.

Google
What a great way to spend your birthday night with friends! Service was good and the atmosphere was fantastic. I really appreciate our waiters and Matthew the manager. Couldn’t have asked for a better night.

Google
First time here and honestly right off the bat as we sat down outside, Joel greeted us right away. The view was impacable. There was heater outside that kept us warm. Joel frequently checked on us which was nice. He recommended the tenderloin tips and pork belly and they did not disappoint! The cocktail was amazing, i ordered the Paisley Park and it was great!

Calin Benson

Google
Highly recommend. Drinks were excellent, high quality and made with premium brands. All drinks were well balanced and beautifully presented. The table presentation was a memorable addition. Joel took time to learn the entire tables name and provided excellent service. He was friendly, personable and congenial.

I went here with a few colleagues last weekend and I was very impressed with the atmosphere of this place. I want to specifically highlight one of the best servers I have ever experienced. His name is Joel and he needs to be commended for his efforts. Not only did he remember all six of our names but also our drinks from memory. He was very personable and made you feel like you were at home. He was smart and very witty as well. We tried to offer him a job with us on the way out lol. Overall very great experience at this establishment and I would definitely go back.

Google
Joel was an absolute delight. Courteous and attentive..always addressing my by my name—making my drinks specific to my likings and needs without condescension. You can’t buy class, ladies and gents… but you can tip on it 🤪 i want him as my server always—and so should you.

Google
We had a spectacular night on the deck overlooking the river watching sunset with incredible food, and delightful service, courtesy of our guide for the night, Joel. I highly recommend the craft cocktails, lobster roll and deviled eggs. Would definitely come back again with a group or for a date night.

Google
Joel was so personable, he knew us all by name and took great care of us all night! The drinks were delicious, the food was scrumptious, and the views were immaculate!

Yelp
I love a good hotel bar and if it comes with great views of the columbia ,it just is the cherry on the top. I was worried if we will get seated or not and tried making reservations but that wasn't an option online. So naturally when I got there after battling the Friday traffic between Portland and Vancouver, I was pissed to find that they were closed for a private event. However they accommodated us on the rooftop bar which is what I anyways preferred. The setting is beautiful albeit small and there are firepits to provide the much needed warmth from the chill . Drinks are good but food menu is limited to only a handful of things .Service is fantastic .

Yelp
I love the atmosphere of this lounge! Very classy, chic, and awesome views of the Columbia River. The food and cocktails were very tasty. It's great spot for a night out.

Yelp
The host was wonderful, he promptly sat my friend and I in a location of our choosing so we could see the view. Waitress came to give us menus, once we ordered - just one drink a piece - she said she would be back to see if we liked the drinks and she never came back. It wasn't busy at all either. I finally got her attention to get our check, she drops it off and says "gratuity has already been added as well!". Ummm gratuity for 2 drinks and just a party of 2?? BTW I got the tequila cilantro drink, no cilantro flavor at all. My friend got the coconut "old fashioned" which was decent. But my tab was $50, what a joke - I won't be returning

Yelp
Hands down the most amazing service and bar creations! Above and beyond in everything they do, and a perfect start, or finish to an El Gaucho treat! (Also you can order from El Gaucho there as well)

Yelp
We've been wanting to check this place out but they close so early and we finally had a chance to come by after a wedding. Staff was so nice. Very friendly and welcoming. Ambiance is nice. Dark with minimal lighting. We wanted to sit outside but weren't able to because it was full. Drinks were good but spendy. Everything on the menu is spendy. FYI, they add a 20% gratuity fee on your bill. We were only party of 2, just me and my husband and the only thing we ordered was 2 drinks. Probably won't be back.

Yelp
Stopped in after apps and happy hour at the AC Hotel. This place is posh and the interior design is beautiful. Finally some nice places this side of the river. We sat at the bar on Valentines Day, fairly early in the evening. Great service, attentive and friendly. Both of the cocktails I tried were well done, pretty and delicious. I will definitely be back.

Yelp
This is probably the nicest bar/lounge we've been to since moving to the PNW. The staff is welcoming, attentive and seemed to work really well together to greet, seat and serve guests. We arrived shortly after 4pm on a gorgeous Sunny Saturday afternoon. We attempted to get a table outside but they were all taken, so we sat inside near the window so we could catch the sunset. Because we had just eaten at Grassa about an hour before (and were totally stuffed) we opted to just get dessert and wine, which turned out to be a total treat. We got the chocolate torte which was so decadent, rich, & creamy with raspberry & pistachio crumble - simply divine. And it paired nice with our glasses of local Pinot noir. Service was excellent and the ambiance is a vibe, especially being right on the water. The decor, colors, lighting and woodwork all contribute to the beautiful aesthetic.

Yelp
Service was fine. Food was okay. The place was empty and the lights were too bright. Very overpriced. While it's a pleasant space, when it's empty and over-lit, the atmosphere is nothing special. They also have a serious fruit fly problem. No thank you.
google avatar

Karen M.

Yelp
The perfect view of the lake on top of the hotel indigo. If you ever stay at any of the hotels on the waterfront I would recommend you make reservations for outdoor seating to catch the sunset. Drinks is a bit pricey but the appetizers made up for it. The pork belly was tender and the deviled eggs came in three different flavors. Our hostess made sure we had outdoor seating as we didn't make any reservations for the night. Once a table opened up so gave it to us!

Yelp
Order: The Expat (scotch, cognac, tropical italian amaro, coffee, banana) Pros: the view is gorgeous! The music sets the atmosphere, and the inside decor gives an upscale adult type of vibe. The Expat drink is really delicious. You get a smoky taste from the coffee and it pairs well with the scotch. Cons: I didnt taste the banana but its still a really good drink.

Yelp
*puts on monacle and top hat* I am absolutely tickled that little ole Vancouver has a rooftop lounge with a really comfortable and upscale ambience to boot. And when I say upscale, I mean ~upscale~. We were greeted and escorted all the way up to the 8th floor which was a nice little boost to feel like we were part of the 1% for an evening. We arrived just at sunset and you could quite literally feel the energy as people enjoyed the moment, it was very beautiful! We were greeted promptly at our table and had great service our entire visit. Nothing overbearing and also very attentive to our requests. Extremely comfortable seating that encouraged us to stay for over 2 hours. If I'm being a little pedant, I'll just say it was awkward having the uncommonly small tables at the incorrect height for how low the seating was at the banquets. I also feel as though the acoustics can be managed a little better as during our stay, 3 different, large parties rotated near us (but not next to us) and it was fairly easy to listen in on their loud conversations. What we had: 2 glasses of wine each, I really liked my rose, the pours were heavy! Charcuterie - I thought it was fairly priced for what we were receiving but what was provided did not mesh well together. It looked beautiful, don't get me wrong, but having pickled cauliflower, pate, savory cheesecake (bleu cheese), and a delightful mustard as the accoutrements made it difficult to mix and match flavors since they were all stand-alone, flavorful stars. Plus, more crisps are always needed, always Poke bowl - really fresh fish, would absolutely order again, good staple ;) 5/5 view on a crisp winter evening 5/5 aesthetics 5/5 service 4/5 food 4/5 functionality of space Rounding up to 5 stars because I still really enjoyed the place and am working on trying not to be so detail-oriented for my own sanity! I could have sat inside for hours, and would be interested how the cocktails are since El Gaucho downstairs has some really great flavors on their own menu.

Yelp
We love rooftop bars in this place did not disappoint. The ambience is amazing, the view is spectacular, and the service is great. Their happy hour is really good. We ordered to Martinez and the deviled eggs. Both delicious. Definitely will come back

Yelp
My newest, favorite bar with a stunning view of Portland. Warm and welcoming, the WT has it all: a budget-friendly happy hour until 6 pm, great service, and a beautiful, comfortable ambiance. I had a terrific happy hour Manhattan for $8. My daughter had an espresso martini at regular price: $18. It tasted perfect to me, but she wanted it a bit sweeter. The bartender added a liqueur, and she enjoyed it more. My husband had a milk stout as the happy hour beer. We stepped on the south facing balcony briefly--it was a 90 degree, Midsummer day, so we didn't sit out there. I noticed heaters and blankets for cooler nights. Sitting outside on a cool night with a warming whiskey neat is in my future. The music was a bit loud, but that's a small complaint. I really liked this bar and will certainly be back.

Yelp
I can see myself enjoying more time on this patio! Amazing view and chic vibes thorough out. Our waitress was very sweet and attentive. The cocktail wasn't my favorite it had a little more peppercorn than I think I was expecting and I would like to see more sweet vodka cocktail options. The savory food options left much to be desired if you're vegetarian. Everything had meat in it and the only option without were deviled eggs. Even if not specially a vegetarian or vegan establishment it's important to consider. Was curious to try the macarons, I'll have to come back and try more of the menu.

Christine G.

Yelp
Beautiful, cozy, relaxing. It has great views, as you'd expect. Lots of different seating options with a chill intimate vibe. Basically a date night dream place when the goal is talking to, and enjoying, each other rather than just "going to dinner again". Speaking of dinner, it's a very limited app menu. My knock down to 4 stars is because there's not one vegetarian option. Although, in all fairness, I didn't ask if anything could be adapted to vegetarian either. I had a bartender (Matt) whip me up something unique and all I remember is that there was rye whiskey...lol...photo attached. It was fantastic. In fact it was waaay better than a drink I had off the menu (All The Way Up). Service was friendly and fantastic. Great place.
google avatar

Emma R.

Yelp
Staff is extremely friendly and knowledgeable! You cant just order one espresso martini...they're that good.
google avatar

Deawn H.

Yelp
I want to edit this review to say our last visit at Witness Tree was much better. We had drinks outside and were well taken care of. The view is unbeatable. Our server was attentive and when the bill came explained their surcharge policy so we were not surprised. The drinks were also well made. We'll definitely be back. On another note I truly appreciate the GM reaching out to me after my prior review.

Tamara M.

Yelp
Maybe we faith them on an off night but the service was realllllly slow. Took a really long time to get everything. Including our bill. They need to staff this place differently. Or train their servers better.
google avatar

Mac M.

Yelp
Outstanding service by Joel, five stars. This is a classy place with classy prices and it's worth it.
google avatar

Maka G.

Yelp
We've been to this rooftop cocktail lounge three times and we love it. The staff are friendly and knowledgeable, the decor is tasteful, and the drinks and food are on point. It's a great place for post-work or sunset drinks. They plan to open the rooftop deck in a few weeks once we've got some drier/sunnier weather.
google avatar

Leah M.

Yelp
Food good, drinks good, location and vies fantastic, prices are very high. If you can get a table outside overlooking the Columbia river and Oregon, then you really have scored a nice place one of the nicest places in the whole region. But do not expect to get good value in terms of the food for your money, and although the drinks maybe are a little better than other places they're not really special. But it's an amazing place to meet up with somebody sit and talk and sit a glass of wine or have a drink maybe a snack

Yelp
A reservation that I booked weeks ago got moved two days prior. Even though we agreed to a new time that was given to us, it still took them 15 minutes to seat us when we got there. Also our drinks and food took forever to the point where I canceled the second order of my drink. it was a pretty awful experience. It sucks because it was my birthday and I was really excited to check it out but unfortunately I won't be back.

Lexi M.

Yelp
One of the best dining experiences I've had in a long time! Though it was a Friday night, we were sat quickly. Joel was our server and the service he provided was impeccable. He checked in frequently, made great recommendations and even asked and remembered all of our names. We all shared a variety of cocktails and food. The espresso martini was outstanding! The deviled eggs and crab lettuce wraps were out of this world, I'd go back just for those alone. There are gorgeous views of the waterfront, and the interior was beautiful. This is the perfect date night or girls night out spot! I can't wait to return!

Zakiya A.

Yelp
The server who was checking my ID was rude to me and the food had no salt whatsoever.

Yelp
We attended the grand opening last night, and it was quite an experience! Upon arriving to the 8th floor, you are immediately transported to an upscale fancy lounge. The service/food/drinks were great, and the feel of the place was lively! The tables were interesting, as some are normal height, but around the lounge area there are what I would call fancy benches/lounges, and around the seats the tables are pretty tiny and short, so plan accordingly if you'd like a normal sized table! I had a paisley park cocktail, which was a pretty purple color, but tasted like black licorice, which I'm not a fan of at all. As a whole cocktail, it had a great flavor profile, just not for me I'm not sure if that's what they were going for, but it strongly tasted like it. If you like black licorice, I say go for it! The poke and sliders were top notch, would order again! This is a very cool spot, and recommend to anyone who wants a fancy cocktail evening on the 8th floor of a hotel with great views! And as always, don't forget to make a reservation!

Paulo R.

Yelp
It's definitely worth a visit if you are in the area. Our server, Mackenzie, and the bartender took really good care of our big walk-in group and made it a good experience.
google avatar

Adrienne B.

Yelp
Witness Tree Lounge has a great vibe and great drinks. It's at the top of the Hotel Indigo, and has indoor and outdoor seating. In the summer the second floor rooftop is open. For winter, you'll have to do with the main floor balcony (with heaters and blankets). There is low, but not dark, lighting with magenta accents. Tables and couches for a more intimate feel, or you can sit at the bar. If you've ever been to STK in Bellevue, it's like that. But actually feels like a lounge instead of a Vegas club.

Tomilynn R.

Yelp
This place is stunning... the view is good of course...but the service, cocktails and small bites are awesome!
google avatar

Tanya M.

Yelp
New roof top bar in Vancouver downtown at Hotel Indigo. The espresso martinis are in my top 5. Crab lettuces wrap are crisp and refreshing. The Ahi poke literally melts in your mouth. I been here a few times and service is always top notch.

Yelp
Paradise Found! Such a perfect name for a drink & place! The ambiance, drinks & service is wonderful. Shout out to Kristina! She is amazing!! Ask to sit in her area if you have the chance! Her fire skills are top notch as well as her service!

Brett W.

Yelp
Sights are awesome. Was not that busy, took a bit to get a beer served. Then had to go to the bar to cash out cuz servers were chatting inside. Then they tack on a 20% gratuity' charge. I would never tip that much for 2 beers and the service we got. TIP = To Insure Promptness. I will not go back.
google avatar

Anthony V.

Yelp
The view from the patio was very nice! We had the Deviled Eggs and Prawns with Cocktail Sauce on the Happy Hour Menu. It wasn't really busy at this time. The drinks were good and the service was great. Our server was really attentive and gave us great recommendations for drinks and food. They said that their upper patio/room will open up in June.

Yelp
The new roof top bar 'The Witness Tree' on the Vancouver waterfront is my to go to spot now when you want great service, food, cocktails and def atmosphere. Thank you Joel for your drink suggestions and your attentive service. Loved the whole thing!
google avatar

Scott C.

Yelp
Cool new roof top bar on the Vancouver waterfront. Kristina is the best. Check "Paradise Found" if you want flames at your table!

Amanda B.

Yelp
The service was wonderful, everyone was very nice and attentive. The ambiance was very intimate and we were there right at sunset, so it was beautiful. We didn't have any food but we had cocktails. The drinks were very good, not something you would get anywhere else and they have a lot of options.
google avatar

Adria T.

Yelp
The drinks are perfection! The ambiance is just right. The playlist is on point. The staff was incredibly kind. I will be back again and again.
google avatar

Bryan T.

Yelp
My wife and I have been twice and we really enjoyed both times. The cocktails are fantastic, the view and ambiance are amazing and we really dig the music. Kristina was our server both times and she was so pleasant and attentive.

Yan G.

Yelp
Let's start with what is working at this new spot! The ambiance, the music, and the views are incredible! Picture perfect! Where the kinks are that need to get worked through- the service is painfully slow, so, so, very slow. You will be waiting 1hr+ for a piece of bread, for a drink, for water, for anything. The way they bring out your food and drink orders leaves you feeling a little puzzled- example, only 1 person in your table will get their drink and 45min later maybe another guest at your table and then 1hr later the next guest so by the time everyone in your table has gotten their drink the whole table is ready for another round and you will need to wait another hour+ and the cycle repeats. Food is handled in exactly the same way and it's awkward to be the only eating your meal when no one else has gotten theirs and won't get theirs for another hour. We have a lot of hope for this new spot and believe that they will get all this sorted out and it will be such a great spot not to just hang out at and admire the views, but to also enjoy food and drinks!
google avatar

Nicole P.

Yelp
Bartender was so rude. We weren't told we would be auto gratted until he handed us the bill. A basic drink was $25. Would not recommend anyone to go. Slow service & attitude. Bad first experience

Alex R.

Yelp
Great vibe, love it here. Come for pre or post dinner drinks, food is best when looking for something light. The martini's here are great, the servers are helpful, the views are unbeatable.

Rob O.

Yelp
A group of 3 of us went for drinks this past weekend. We were very disappointed with our experience. 1. The drinks were all over $20, and a base vodka like Titos was an up charge. 2. They bill themselves as the only roof top patio in Vancouver, but we were told it would only be for private bookings which is kind of brutal. The actual bar itself is ok, but has the same view as everywhere else on the water front, and the decor reminded us of a breakfast diner, not unlike Sherris or Denny's. Lastly, they include an automatic 20% tip for all groups no matter the size. Then our waitress let us know that it didn't go to her, so if we'd like to tip more it would be appreciated. Who does that? Do they expect people to tip 25-40% no matter what the service is like? We love what the waterfront has become in Vancouver, and there are lots of cool places with a view to have some good drink/food. This place seems to be trying a little too hard to be something it is not.

Kim O.

Yelp
We went to the grand opening tonight, we were actually the first customers they served! The atmosphere is amazing! A lot of pink lighting. Food and drinks were great. Kristina was a great server. It's elevated bar food and small plates, so plan to have dinner before or after. Looking forward to going back when the weather lets us go outside to enjoy the view.

Yelp
My husband and I are avid El Gaucho fans and waited anxiously for Witness Tree to open after over a year of delays. We made a reservation easily for 2 hours after our dinner reservation downstairs. The staff at El Gaucho really talked it up during dinner so we were even more excited to get up to the 8th floor. Boy, what a let down. The seating is awkward - it felt like weird club seats with a few chairs here and there. We were seated right away but it took over 15 minutes for our server to come to our "table" (aka tiny circle.) We had Kristina for our server and she was excellent so I would give her 5 stars. We ordered and waited and waited for our drinks. They finally arrived and mine was not good. Really no flavor to it - all alcohol but not in a good way. Kristina offered to replace it with something else so I did. Second drink was decent but nothing to write home about for $19. This place has potential, especially in the summer with the two outdoor spaces, but they need a larger cocktail menu with drinks people can enjoy and not tolerate. Hoping it will get through the initial growing pains and blossom into a Vancouver Waterfront treasure.

Chelsea R.

Yelp
Great drinks, wonderful service. Cool ambience. Servers go above and beyond. View of the Columbia River

Curtis A.

Yelp
I really wanted to like this place. I've read many good reviews on yelp. I was looking forward to trying their wagyu hotdog. We were a party of 8. They weren't that busy. It took 1 1/2hrs to get a hotdog and steak bites. Neither were good at all. Costco's $1.50 hotdog is 10 times better. I spoke with who I thought might be a manger about our crazy long wait time for our food. She said she was sorry and that's it. No one came to our table and ever explained what was going on in the kitchen or even apologized at all. We did get our bill though with a 20% tip already added. I will not be going back there and I would not recommend this place to anyone! I will be calling tomorrow to speak to a manger and see what they have to say for themselves. If I could give it a zero rating I would but Yelp doesn't let you

Lindsey C.

Yelp
Worst experience ever. Went here to celebrate turning 21 and was greeted by an extremely rude host. She asked for my ID and I said no problem and handed it to her explaining how ecstatic I was to finally be 21. She then took my ID in the back for 10 minutes and out came the manager. He was a shorter brunette man and he immidietly was extremely rude. He asked me for verbal confirmation that I was actually 21 because he didn't believe me. I was with both of my parents who were caught off guard. When we were finally let in, I was met with a group of waiters staring and talking about me and how they didn't believe I was actually 21. I could see them and hear them talking about me the whole time I was there. I will say my waiter could tell what was happening and tried to make up for it, he was the only positive thing about this restaurant. coulddid not feel comfortable at all and cut my time there short as the angry manager kept circling our table and glaring every time we made eye contact. My parents and me were extremely upset, what a way to ruin someone's 21st birthday celebration. When I finally left I was discussing our experience when a hotel worker overheard us and said they agreed with us and they said the manager was not a nice person. Won't be coming back anytime soon unless I see new management.
