The first Las Vegas kava lounge opens in Spring Valley this summer - Eater Vegas

"9th Island Kava is moving into a vacant, former Dream Dinners food preparation outpost at the Rainbow Square retail center, close to the intersection of Hacienda Avenue and Rainbow Boulevard and a short walk from Happy Wok. Recently filing paperwork to remodel the 1,400-square-foot space, the lounge’s team of “kavatenders” will prepare a traditional non-alcoholic tea made from the roots of the Kava plant found in the South Pacific Islands, creating a bitter-flavored drink the restaurant promises “induces a euphoric state of calm.” Working under the slogan of “Relax your body. Refresh your mind. Rejuvenate your soul,” 9th Island Kava is emphasizing the social aspect of its lounge, and also promoting long-held, non-FDA approved claims the beverage can aid “anxiety, chronic pain, depression and insomnia.” Originally the restaurant hoped to be ready before the end of June, but the operators have already been serving at local events, using imported Tongan ingredients and a AluBall kava maker machine. A future debut date, or opening hours have yet to be announced." - Bradley Martin

Great Kava bar in Vegas! I always visit Kava bars on my travels and this one was great! I have not one negative thing to say. They service was excellent and the people were lovely. The kava was some of the best I’ve had outside of Florida and priced good as well. Their other drinks were super too! Definitely check this place out on your next trip to Vegas or if you’re local!

Absolutely love this place. First time here and Lenn is great, excellent customer service. Such a chill vibe for a chill drink that totally works. Feels like a mild benzo but totally natural. Promotes socializing. Music choice is awesome and seating is comfortable. Come check it out!

If you're looking for a unique beverage experience in Las Vegas, 9th Island Kava Lounge is a must-visit. This is not a hookah or cannabis lounge; instead, it offers a unique beverage from the South Pacific that has a host of benefits. As a first-time Kava drinker, I was amazed by the flavor and the experience. The owner and staff are incredibly knowledgeable and take the time to explain the customs and culture surrounding Kava. What sets 9th Island Kava Lounge apart is that it offers one of the most unique Vegas experiences, all while providing a welcoming and relaxing atmosphere. Kava is an all-natural drink that has been enjoyed in the South Pacific for centuries. It is known for its calming effects and has been used to promote relaxation, reduce anxiety, and alleviate pain. In addition, Kava is said to have anti-inflammatory properties and can improve sleep quality. At 9th Island Kava Lounge, you can enjoy Kava juices, Kava Kandies, and Kava Jello Shots, all of which are delicious and unique. The owner and staff are friendly and eager to share their knowledge of Kava with their customers, making the experience even more enriching. Overall, I highly recommend 9th Island Kava Lounge for anyone looking for a unique and relaxing beverage experience in Las Vegas. The benefits of drinking Kava are numerous, and the atmosphere at the lounge is welcoming and friendly. It's definitely worth a visit!

Google
Cute Kava Bar in Las Vegas the staff were extremely kind answered any questions we had about the drinks, I had a Kava and coffee concoction that was really nice and smooth we also had some Kratom shots that tasted delightful If your looking for a place to chill WLVS DEN is the spot.

Google
Best Kratom tea i've had outside my local in Tampa (Hot Wax). Very cool staff and very reasonably priced. Definitely worth the uber ride if you're a kratom fan staying on the strip and need a break.

Google
Kava done properly! As a small kava business owner myself, and having been to 14 Kava bars in America, I was elated that 9th Island is legit! Brew is potent, vibe is spectacular, service was true Aloha.😊🤙

Google
This was a complete waste of money. I bought a half gallon of the kratom and a half gallon of the kava, I drank the entire half gallon of kratom with absolutely no effect whatsoever. I nearly drank the entire half gallon of kava as well but by this point I was having to pee every 5 minutes and the kava had no effect either so there was no point in continuing drinking dirt water. I spent $75 dollars on NOTHING. YOU WILL NOT GET BUZZED, YOU WILL NOT FEEL RELAXED, you’ll just feel like you’ve been ripped off. Just go to the smoke shop, they sell kratom that actually does something, this place just sells water with dirt in it.

Yelp
Local chill place to hang out with good friends and and enjoy a creatively refreshing and delicious Kava Drink. Parking is ample. Several food locations next to this spot and the variety of drinks here is quite nice.

Love this place! Everyone is so nice and they play the best music. Kava & kratom drinks are good, have tried a bunch of things off the menu.

Yelp
I THOUGHT I already reviewed 9th but it seems I didn't....so: YES on kava! YES on 9th Island Kava! Let's go line by line though. The kava: um, amazing. Utterly the best kava we have tried (we have experienced a LA kava joint, and homemade with a few different companies. 9th Island blows them all out of the water. With some kava you get a little funny in the tummy, and feel a little off along with your buzz...not with 9th - it's legit smooth. Now, I'm a taste person, and while I appreciate straight kava I'm a dumpster fire that appreciates Diet Dr. Pepper as a mixer...we have also made kava margaritas, piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris as well. With a few drops of their very well-priced kratom, it gives you the nicest buzz. Fun facts about kava versus alcohol (which I loved but it didn't love me, so we had to break up): The buzz alone is like a nice glass of wine and a hit of weed (which I also 86'd due to anxiety) - consistently, meaning as long as you are drinking it, you stay in that level of buzz. With kratom, however, it is like wine with a dose of euphoria. I'm a chatty drinker but with this, I'm just chill, and a little joyfully blurred around the edges - and completely capable of handling anything I need to if any emergency arises (which is very nice...a capable euphoric buzz, I would say.) Also, you get zero hangover....um, yes. It's an appetite suppressant (we are fasting on it today and have zero desire for food...when do you get to say that?!) It's a diuretic so you naturally lose water weight (but make sure to hydrate and use electrolytes to feel your very best). The environment at the establishment is lovely, a little vacant, cool, dark, and chill. Decent music surrounds what feels like little VIP booths. We haven't been there when it is busy, and are on a health-related diet so haven't been able to experience the refreshers or jello shots at the time of reviewing but will be happy to update. The people, however, make this place just the best! Shelly and Bryan are the two we have met so far and they are just the most fun, well-versed, and lovely individuals you could want to meet. They have karaoke, but we haven't been in for it just yet, but it seems like a perfect place for that silliness. Parking is fabulous and it's surrounded by a lot of sweet little shops and restaurants. Highly suggest supporting this unique spot to make sure that alternative bars like this can stay open and cater to those that don't want alcohol as a part of their regular. It's just a great place.

Yelp
Never in a million years would I think I'd drink kava and enjoy it.... that's until I went to the 9th island kava lounge! This place is amazing for any occasion. I've been to baby showers, comedy shows, birthday party's , Halau fundraisers, Mother's Day brunch etc you name it! This is such a fun and unique place to hang out and socialize. We love getting the tanoa bowl of the chocolate peanut butter lava, it's our favorite. We always enjoy the kreatom drinks as well. We love how the staff is there to guide first time kava drinkers to let them know the healing benefits from all the drinks. They also now have kava candies and those are so yummy!! They def hit your mouth in .5 seconds. They always have events going on there like open mic, wahine Wednesday, comedy shows and so much more. The owners are amazing and down to earth people. They are always willing and open to open there shop to help out the community like hosting dinners on holidays to feed the community and so much more. If you ever get a chance check this place out!!!

Yelp
What a delightful place! Taz & Lei welcomed me into the space and I felt totally at home. Kava tasted exactly as I recalled from the Big Island, and it wasn't long before I was feeling completely relaxed. They told me there's karaoke in some evenings too. Took home a variety of kava and other treats, and I will be back!

Yelp
I finally had the chance to visit this place with my son and friend. None of us had tried Kava before and was a little nervous. The moment we stepped in, we felt at home. This place feels chill and has a nice vibe to it. The guys there were all so nice and informative. I wish I knew their names...I'm sure they told me but I'm having a blond moment right now. lol Ordered the Tongan to start. It was served in a traditional bowl. The guy brought out a little bowl of Skittles for chasing the bitterness away. We decided to go big and take the kava straight up! lol We were told that we have to mix it up before serving it into our individual bowls so the Kava sediment would be mixed around. We had a couple bowls each, talked story with each other and with the guys there. At my last bowl, I decided to pop a skittle in my mouth. Oh my goodness! It brought my kava into a new level! It was like having wine with your steak...it complimented the kava and took some of the bitterness away. Not that the bitterness bothered me, but who knew a little piece of skittle would bring out the taste of it? After chilling for a bit, we were asked if we wanted to try one of the flavor shots. I was saying that I can't imagine how a flavored shot would top our night but Wowee!!Decided on the Reece's pieces kava shot and oh my goodness!!! It was a perfect way to end our night! It was like a liquid Reece's pieces dessert drink...with no kava taste at all! Thank you boys for making our first visit awesome! Planning on coming bacK next weekend! xoxo

Yelp
C'MON! Try something New! I've been enjoying Kava on and off for about 15 years - starting after a trip to "Uncle's Awa Bar" in the Pahoa area of Hawaii's Big Island. I loved the friendly social scene of Uncle's - along with the good music & chill vibe. It was all the good of a neighborhood bar with none of the bad of the booze. 9th Island has the potential to be all of this right here in Las Vegas (minus the gorgeous Hawaiian weather, or course). Drinking kava (or "awa") is an ancient social tradition in many Pacific Island communities. But here's the thing... it's a functional beverage, not a tasty one. Yes, you can try to mask the flavor with fruit juices and such, but the bitter, woody taste is only tolerable - not delicious. This makes it a bit of a tough sell for many. Most of the customers I saw there were young Island guys who were hip to the whole scene already, and were clearly fine with the taste. IMO - like good black coffee, It is a taste worth acquiring, and quite enjoyable once you do. A single serving may give you a hint of kava's potential- but to really feel the full-on pleasurable effects, you have to consume a good bit of the stuff - which can quickly get expensive. That being said - if you're at all interested in a physically and mentally relaxing beverage that really lends itself to social interaction, grab a couple of friends and head to 9th Island for a new experience! I recommend jump-starting things with a shell (serving) of the plain, basic drink - just so you get the feel for it. After that, you might try a fruit juice "refresher", which is a tastier sipping type beverage. (The guava flavor is great). It may be a pleasant one-time experience for you - OR you might just find that peaceful Island vibe that you've been looking for - right here in Sin City.

Yelp
Great service and excellent product. I am visiting from Florida and it was as good as any I have enjoyed. They are growing and soon to add to the menu more delicious beverages.

Yelp
Fantastic experience. 100% will return. Wanna do something a lil different? We had a fantastic first experience here! Island themed, live music, fantastic folks. Really really happy to have found this spot.

Yelp
Great Kava! Seats were a bit uncomfortable and it didn't have much seating or privacy to experience Kava like I have experienced before. Kava and service is excellent though.
google avatar

Wolf C.

Yelp
I've become a regular here. They carry unique kava kava strains and are consistent. Their Kraft Tea candies and Kava candies are lifesavers. They also carry dakind botanicals shots! IYKYK. Service is perfect for the spot. Every once an a while they have live musicians and other musical artists performing live. Good vibes. Taz & Sonny always make you feel welcome.

Yelp
Cool spot and so nice to have a kava & kratom spot in Vegas! The service was also incredible!

Dan N.

Yelp
Kava simply doesn't get any better than this! I have been drinking kava 2-6 days per week for a few years now and I just tasted the purest, cleanest kava I have ever tasted. I also met the owner, Jai, and his associate, Albert, who are class acts and are clearly experts in all things kava related. Everything is made in house and is very tasty... they even offer a homemade kratom drink! This is a perfect place for both the seasoned kava vet and the newbie looking to learn and try some for the first time. Great kava, great service, and great people. Easy 5 stars.

Yelp
Was referred by some friends to try this place and finally had the opportunity today. I wish I asked her name, as the girl helping us was amazing. She made us feel so welcome and at home. She walked us through everything as it was our first time trying kava. We had the sampler so we could get a taste of everything and figure out what we wanted. We ended up getting some of the flavored drinks. And she let us try the kava candy. It was a really good experience overall. We were told they have live music on Friday nights as well, so we will probably to head over one of those nights in the future.

Yelp
Loved the vibes, the customer service was top notch, the co-owners were very informative with us being first timers. We enjoyed the samples in which helped better decide on what we wanted to order. We'll definitely be back here! Mahalo

Paul S.

Yelp
Great kava and great staff! The vibe is really good here. A great place to chill out and get away from the Vegas hellscape. A real treasure in Las Vegas. Bula!

Yelp
This was in my collectors folder and finally made it!! I'm always trying to find unique places to visit. Kava is different and I enjoyed trying different flavors. We came on a quiet night which was great as a fist timer because we got a lot of attention. One of the owners sat down with us and explained Kava. Thank you. The service was awesome. Maybe we'll come back on Karaoke Night.

Yelp
Our Kava server was the best, he was really chill so it was easy to ask him questions and he was very attentive, we got a strawberry social Tanoa and he offered us the Reese's kava as a sample, which was awesome! We all ended up get 2 shots each of them and the pineapple and mango. I honestly think the best flavor is the Reese's so be sure to try it.. Will be back for a Reese's Tanoa!!

Mindy S.

Yelp
We had a great experience at 9th Island. Everyone was super welcoming. Jai is very knowledgeable. Kava has a unique flavor, an acquired taste, but they make it easier for the general public to experience this Polynesian drink by offering different fusion options, and even Jell-O shots and gummy versions! You can get kava (or cratom) to go or hand out in their chill lounge. We love the art they have up in the space! We had a fantastic time and learned so much!

David P.

Yelp
If you've never tried Kava you absolutely need to start now. It's an incredibly interesting sensation that you get from the beverage and the people that run this establishment make it even more adventurous. I highly recommend that everybody come here and give it a try.

Charlene C.

Yelp
As soon as I walked in, I was warmly welcomed and took a seat. I perused the menu and decided to order a traditional Kava bowl, while my bf ordered four shots of the Reese's Pieces blend. The seating areas were nicely spaced out and comfortable, with small tables placed in every seating area. The arrangement of furniture as well as background music made the ambiance smooth and easy. Lyrics ran across the television screen, conducive to the karaoke machine in the front of the room. Karaoke can be played every night, just ask Jai or Kyle. The traditional Kava tasted the same as it usually does back home in Hawaii, except the blend was lighter. I had ordered the Tongan blend and found that it was so very easy on the palate. The Reese's Pieces blend, was very ono. The consistency was very creamy and the taste was a earthy nutty flavor. Jai and Kyle are two of the most down to earth people that you will meet. They take the time to sit with you and educate both the benefits of Kava and how it has expanded to the mainland USA. How awesome!!! Establishment opens around 5p and closes about 1a. A great venue to book small parties or big events. The whole establishment was very clean and not congested. Highly recommend this place to anyone regardless if they heard of Kava before or not. Come take part of the Kava experience!

Ronna M.

Yelp
Best place to relax from a long day. Good place to meet your friends. First time visiting the lounge. Kyle our Kavatender was amazing. He explained the different drinks and flavors. Will definitely return to visit again.

Yelp
Super chill vibes and great kava! Make sure you try the Reese's pieces flavor or the strawberry flavor! Definitely will be back

Yelp
Great Kava, Great Vibes! Come to 9th Island Kava for relaxation. Staff is great. The flavors were fantastic.

Janice P.

Yelp
First time here. Had a great experience. Live music was awesome. Kava was delish! Must have skittles to go with Kava to reduce bitterness. I would recommend dimming lights to enhance the vibe. We'll come back again!

Yelp
Ok so I had to change this to 5 stars. Maybe I'm biased but it's because the owner is from Hawaii, however, when I first walked in I loved the fact that I was greeted by the owner himself and obviously being from Hawaii, I also loved the fact that the owner was welcoming. I brought my friend to in to try kava. I had been ranting and raving to her about it all day. I yelped to see if there was kava in vegas and there is! Not to mention Vegas has some strict regulations, so it's FDA certified people! I drink original kava but if there's flavor kava- I'm all about it. We were lucky that it wasn't too crowded, I'm not a big fan of crowds, and we also scored because the boxing fight match was on! The employees of the this business were always checking up on us, made sure we had everything we needed, and it made me feel like I was home away from home. If and when you come to Vegas check it out!!

Arafat H.

Yelp
Gin was on deck #Sapphire I love their service and friendly people with friendly faces!
