Yelp
I THOUGHT I already reviewed 9th but it seems I didn't....so:
YES on kava! YES on 9th Island Kava! Let's go line by line though.
The kava: um, amazing. Utterly the best kava we have tried (we have experienced a LA kava joint, and homemade with a few different companies. 9th Island blows them all out of the water. With some kava you get a little funny in the tummy, and feel a little off along with your buzz...not with 9th - it's legit smooth.
Now, I'm a taste person, and while I appreciate straight kava I'm a dumpster fire that appreciates Diet Dr. Pepper as a mixer...we have also made kava margaritas, piña coladas and strawberry daiquiris as well. With a few drops of their very well-priced kratom, it gives you the nicest buzz.
Fun facts about kava versus alcohol (which I loved but it didn't love me, so we had to break up):
The buzz alone is like a nice glass of wine and a hit of weed (which I also 86'd due to anxiety) - consistently, meaning as long as you are drinking it, you stay in that level of buzz. With kratom, however, it is like wine with a dose of euphoria. I'm a chatty drinker but with this, I'm just chill, and a little joyfully blurred around the edges - and completely capable of handling anything I need to if any emergency arises (which is very nice...a capable euphoric buzz, I would say.)
Also, you get zero hangover....um, yes.
It's an appetite suppressant (we are fasting on it today and have zero desire for food...when do you get to say that?!)
It's a diuretic so you naturally lose water weight (but make sure to hydrate and use electrolytes to feel your very best).
The environment at the establishment is lovely, a little vacant, cool, dark, and chill. Decent music surrounds what feels like little VIP booths. We haven't been there when it is busy, and are on a health-related diet so haven't been able to experience the refreshers or jello shots at the time of reviewing but will be happy to update.
The people, however, make this place just the best! Shelly and Bryan are the two we have met so far and they are just the most fun, well-versed, and lovely individuals you could want to meet. They have karaoke, but we haven't been in for it just yet, but it seems like a perfect place for that silliness.
Parking is fabulous and it's surrounded by a lot of sweet little shops and restaurants.
Highly suggest supporting this unique spot to make sure that alternative bars like this can stay open and cater to those that don't want alcohol as a part of their regular. It's just a great place.
