5 Twin Cities Restaurant Closures to Know This November | Eater Twin Cities

"Cheesemaker Keith Adams has relocated his company from Northeast Minneapolis’s Food Building to Sebastopol, California. Adams told the Pioneer Press that a number of factors led to the decision — namely, he hasn’t been able to turn a profit since the pandemic began; his head cheesemaker recently relocated to a new city; and he was struggling to find a new milk supplier. Though he didn’t want to close his Minneapolis location, Adams told the Pioneer Press he’s excited to be back in California, his home state." - Justine Jones

Loved my visit here! Great place to see live cheese processing and try some interesting cheese. We were taken care of so well by Amanda and the cheese board was so well portioned and balanced. You can tell everything is made with love and freshness in mind!

Google
Yes! Grabbed a cheeseboard for two. A perfect balance of flavors with the cheese, bread and chutney. And Keith was great with knowledgeable service. 100% would go back.

Google
Delicious cheeses locally made in the European style. We got the 2-person board which allowed us to try the 1 year aged cheddar, "Aries" which is Manchego-adjacent, and the Camembert. The plum chutney is amazing too. And don't forget the freshly roasted almonds! All amazing and very reasonably priced. We will come back as often as we can.

Google
We were searching for a little cheese tasting and this was perfect!! The woman that helped us was so lovely today (Sunday 8/31) and the cheese board was perfect. Great chardonnay. Will definitely be coming back!

Google
The front-desk staff member was very rude with my family and me. I understand it can be busy, but customers shouldn’t feel that frustration directed toward them. I hope the management can provide more support so staff and visitors have a better experience. Unfortunately, because of how we were treated, we’ve decided not to return.

Google
Lovely cheese! We have the cheddar, the Walpole and the Camembert style cheeses, and they were all superb. The cheesemonger Keith was friendly, knowledgeable and very helpful. We had a slight mix up in picking up an order (as much our fault as theirs), and they handled it with a great deal of expertise and grace. We really appreciated it. Brilliant service. I highly recommend them.

Google
I've visited WM Cofield twice and absolutely loved their cheeses both times. I think we got a 12 month and 18 month aged cheddar. Both were phenomenal, especially the 18 month which was creamy, flavorful, with brilliant sharp cheddar aroma but a smooth finish and aftertaste. Probably the best cheddar I've had - a delight to eat and a wonderful pairing for the wines around this area. The owner of the shop is also a pleasure to talk to and so kind! Highly recommend for all your cheese needs

Google
Life in America is a constant quest for real cheese that doesn't taste and fell like plastic... Well not any more! This is the best cheese I've tasted since I left the UK. Real matured cheddar, gorgeous Stilton and a grilled cheese that is rightfully legendary in the area. On top of that, a selection of some of the finest beers made in the area and wonderfully welcoming staff. Keith and Amanda are a delight. You have to come here. Get yourself a grilled cheese, you will not be disappointed!

Yelp
The sign said "transcendent" grilled cheese - and tbh I was floating as I was eating eat with their tomato soup (not just because of all the wine and beer I had earlier in the Barlow ;) ) Great service, clean little place outside to eat, and definitely the most delicious grilled cheese tomato soup combo I've ever had in my life! Kudos Cofield!

Yelp
We were lured in by the mention of "famous grilled cheese" on their sign, and it turned out to be the highlight of our day! So sorry that I failed to take a photo of it--it had crispy cheese flakes where it had splodged out between the slices!!!

Yelp
5 Stars - A Hidden Gem on the CA Cheese Trail! Who knew there was a California Cheese Trail? After a visit to the Charles Schulz Museum, my husband and I were looking for something fun and different to do when we stumbled upon WM Cheesemakers--what an incredible find! From the moment we walked in, the service was warm and welcoming. We happened to visit during their Sweetheart Special, which included an apple and cheese salad, tomato soup, and a grilled cheese sandwich. Wow--every bite was perfection! The flavors were so well-balanced, and the quality of the cheese really stood out. To top it all off, we got to meet the owner, who was not only approachable and kind but also incredibly passionate about what they do. Such a gracious host! We'll absolutely be back, and now we can't wait to explore more stops on the Cheese Trail--WM Cheesemakers has set the bar high!

Yelp
We love this spot! It's tucked away in The Barlow, but it's worth a visit. They have a small but lovely selection of cheeses (from CA, the Midwest, and other areas), but we always focus on the cheeses they make themselves. You can see the other rooms where they process and age the cheeses from the retail space! They always have some great samples out too, which helps us pick which to get. Their curds are great too! Prices are standard for locally made cheese. We haven't dabbled yet, but it's rumored that they make a mean grilled cheese... Stop by and support this local cheesemaker!

Yelp
Follow the cheese. The beauty of this cheese house is that they make cheese in house! Wm. Cofield Cheesemakers is known for their complex, Stilton-inspired Bodega Blue and the lush, cloth-bound aged McKinley Cheddar. We love it all! They also serve fabulous cheeseboards complimented with selections from The Fatted Calf in Napa and Journeyman in Healdsburg. Love the locals supporting locals.

Yelp
Wish I live close by - the grilled cheese sandwich was unforgettable! Service was excellent- very kind people who greeted you with a smile. Highly recommended!

Yelp
While on the Cheese Crawl during the Cheese festival we stopped by to sample the two cheeses they were offering and we ended up getting a few kinds of cheese to taste later. Everything we tried was delicious specially the Stilton. The shop has glass windows and you can see the cheese maker working on the wheels. Great customer service. Friendly team.

Yelp
While looking for a cheese shop that offered cheese tastings on Yelp, I stumbled upon this gem of a place. Wm Cofield Cheesemakers is located within The Barlow so there's plenty of parking and there are signs to guide you to the right place. The shop itself is pretty small with a few tables inside and outside. When we walked in, we were greeted and told to try a few cheeses located in their wooden box shelf. I came with two others and opted for the charcuterie board for two. Although it was meant for two, I feel like four people could enjoy it! The lady working there was friendly and knowledgeable on the cheeses. She even asked us if there were specific cheeses we wanted to try or didn't like for the board. Our favorite was the one made from sheep's milk. They had a selection of local cheeses and their own cheeses. This is a nice place to enjoy some leisure time or to gather items for a party at home. I will definitely come back when I'm in the area. I heard they make a really good grilled cheese so I'll have to try that next!

Yelp
My wife and I shared their Valentines Day special and had a chance to have their Cheddar and Apple Salad, Tomato Soup and their grilled cheese. It was the most satisfying combination I have ever had. We had wine and an hard apple cider as well. The service was great and we even met the owner who was super friendly. I can't wait to visit again. That grilled cheese was delicious!!!!

Yelp
Keep your eyes open for this spot! Unless you spot the bright yellow band with CHEESE in it, then you may miss it tucked down a walkway. When we walked in, we were instantly greeted by Keith! The man behind the cheese! He told us all about how this place happened. He traveled to the UK and fell in love with their cheese. Brought it back, and now we get to enjoy it! I don't think I've ever had UK inspired cheese before, so this was a treat. We got to try their cheddar and aged cheddar. The aged cheddar was hands down our favorite! The aging process gave it a deeper flavor and a firmer texture. I also picked up some cheese curds I am excited to fry up! They also have some other local creameries cheeses in their case if you don't want to travel but want to try the cheese of the area.

Yelp
Cute shop, GREAT service and delicious cheese! Prices are appropriate. Can't wait to visit again. They give samples which helps you make up your mind.

Yelp
This tiny cheese shop is tucked away in The Barlow. Look for the large CHEESE sign! "Proper British cheese for Sonoma County and the rest of the world!" Cheese is my love language so I had to stop! Masks are required so samples aren't currently an option. That's fine. It's handmade cheese. Trust me. It's GOOD! Go there and buy it. Just know that quality handmade cheese is priced accordingly. I purchased the 12-month aged cheddar and the cheese curds. Both were devoured by two of us within 24 hours! I'll buy both again but I look forward to trying the 24-month aged cheddar and the blue cheese next time! They also sell Journeyman salumi from here in Healdsburg. Be sure to look through the window at all of their beautiful cheese wheels. Dreamy! Cheese, yes please!

Yelp
Great place fabulous cheese Cheddar and the dry jack was delicious Hole in the wall great arrive friendly

Yelp
Such a cute shop! They have samples of cheese and the owner is lovely! My mom and I shared the meat and cheese for two and it was scrumptious. The bread was soft and paired well with all the cheese, meats and the jam.

Yelp
We stopped by this place while strolling around the shops in The Barlow. We are so glad that we stumbled upon this place! This place has a large sign that reads CHEESE written on the side of the building so you will know when you have found it! This shop had glass windows so you can see the process of making cheese as well as the drying racks where they age the cheese. The customer service was excellent! The person at the shop helping us was friendly and very knowledgeable! There is a large selection of different cheeses to choose from. I got the McKinley cheddar that was aged for 24 months. You can get as little of 1/4 lb. and it's a delicious cheese to have with crackers and wine. I love supporting local companies and will definitely be back to try out other cheeses!

Yelp
My husband, myself, and our dog have visited this little tucked away gem multiple times and Amanda has been wonderful and so welcoming. I highly recommend the grilled cheese sandwich, the salad and the tomato soup, delicious! I look forward to going back in November :) Thank you Wm Cofield Cheesemakers!

Alex K.

Yelp
Delightful! Lots of thoughtful touches -- from the cheese samples to the linen & silver, from the straightforward menu and eclectic chip flavors to the meticulous preparation of sandwiches and the accurate quoted wait time -- we left surprisingly ecstatic.

Yelp
Tasted and purchased two cheeses made in house. Cheddar and a blue. Both very smooth. Well balanced flavors. The blue is particularly "polite". It does not have that sharp acid bite that many people find offensive in lower quality blue cheese. I just got back from 3 weeks in the English countryside. I ate mostly local meat, cheese and produce. The cheeses were remarkable there. The cheese made here in Sebastopol equals the best I ate in Great Britain. Bravo to another fine artisan establishment in the Barlow center. Fellow Yelpers who are cheese aficionados, come here! Support a local guy who is doing a great job making a great product.

Brian E.

Yelp
Small shop that allows you to taste their offerings. They had a cheddar out under glass. The counter person was knowledgeable and helpful, allowing us to taste all the cheeses they had. We were disappointed that they were sold out of their Stilton (that's the cheese we stopped by to try). We picked up a Pt Reyes blue.
google avatar

Linda R.

Yelp
Such a great find. Owner was friendly and knowledgeable about his selection of cheese. Simple process to sample cheese. There was a few out to try, yet go ahead and ask to try anything in the case! Ended up getting a truffle Brie & he was kind enough to give us a cold pack to transport. Go there & say cheese!
google avatar

Yelp
Excellent customer service: owner is very friendly and very knowledgeable. We sampled curds, 12 month cheddar, McKinley cheddar (aged for 24 months) and Stilton while visiting this weekend. Purchased McKinley cheddar and Stilton. Flavors were so smooth!! Delicious cheeses and awesome service. Can't wait to purchase more cheese the next time we're in the area. Thank you!
google avatar

Yelp
Had a fun date night tasting cheese and shared the best grilled cheese we have ever had! Enjoyed a beer and cider with our charcuterie board. So many great cheeses, can't wait to come back and try some more cheeses. If you are doing a charcuterie board, you need to come here. I love that they have local options. What a fun place.

Yelp
My new favorite obsession is definitely the Cheese store! WmCofield Cheesemakers is AWESOME. There's a legit CHEESE ROOM/CAVE that you can peek in to drool over the many beautiful wheels of cheesy goodness. All artisan made with milk from Petaluma. I sampled a delicious cheddar and two types of blue cheese and some cheese curds. Absolute heaven. I bought some of all three and I pretty much ate the whole bag of cheese curds in a day while wine tasting. YUM. He also has other local cheeses there to purchase and taste. Such a great addition place to add to your list to visit! I read someone's review below that said cheese shouldn't just be a luxury item and he definitely hinted that the cheese here was "too expensive". If you've ever gone to Europe where ingredients are local and the best, where the makers are artists and experts in their craft- you know that there are always products you can buy that are delicious and less expensive but for the GOOD STUFF, you pay what it's worth. The labor, the quality, the taste all reflect that. Wm Cofield is a perfect up and coming cheese maker to support. Their first cheeses are delicious and i hope the first of many more to come.

Yelp
This is a regular destination for my wife and I whenever we pass through Sebastopol. They are very generous with their samples so you know exactly what you're getting. Their cheddars are a favorite, particularly the extra aged. Very deep flavor and lots of yummy cheese crystals. Their blue is also excellent. They have a variety of offerings from other local makers as well. Highly recommended whenever you are in The Barlow.

Karina G.

Yelp
While strolling down the main strip of the Barlow some excellent signage caught my eye. All I saw was one word: CHEESE. This artisan shop is tucked in the alley next to Zazu so it's really only visible to walkers. Knowing I had a BBQ to go to later that day I figured 'who doesn't like a good cheese plate appetizer'? (The correct is no one....) The man working the front, Dylan, was very friendly and gave me some samples before helping me decide on a delicious goat cheese. He was also nice enough to cut me a slice based on the dollar amount I was willing to spend. Cheese can get pricey so I appreciated that he was conscious of that. Once I got my cheese I stopped over at Community Market to grab some crackers and a nice Sauv Blanc to pair. Naturally, my cheese plate was a huge hit at the BBQ.

Camila R.

Yelp
Could not recommend this place enough! Incredible cheese- great quality and taste. The grilled cheese is the best sandwich I've ever had! My husband is not usually a big grilled cheese fan and he couldn't get enough and agreed its the best he's ever had! Tomato soup pairs lovely with the grilled cheese and is also delicious! Keith, the owner, is kind, friendly, and helpful. He goes above and beyond! All staff are wonderful. Do yourself a favor and pay a visit!

Yelp
My experience here left much to be desired. Didn't seem like the lady behind the counter had any clue what she was selling or like she wanted to help us. Frankly she was quiet rude so i wouldn't bother stopping here.

Laura R.

Yelp
Highly recommend this cheese shop in the Barlow! Owner is so friendly and has the most delicious cheese. Coworker and I got a cheese plate and wine, which was also delicious and paired very well with the cheese plate. Plate included some nuts, jam and bread. Go visit!

Yelp
Spent the afternoon in Sebastopol yesterday, walking around to a great variety of shops, restaurants, and breweries in the area. Sebastopol is a great place filled with a plethora of unique mom and pop businesses, but Wm Cofield Cheesemakers felt the one that stood out to the most to me. My time here was short and sweet, but in that time, I got to try three separate cheese that were all made in house and all had different flavor profiles. The white cheddar was soft and sharp, the blue was flavorful without being too funky (not always my favorite style of cheese), and their cheese curds melted in my mouth! I was pleasantly surprised by the entire spread, but mostly by the blue cheese, which I thoroughly enjoyed despite usually finding the style to be a little too much for my liking. My girlfriend and I picked up a portion of the blue, which I'm sure we'll be enjoying later this weekend with some other local cheese picked up earlier that morning at the Sebastopol farmer's market. I'm exciting to dig farther into it! The man behind the counter, who I assume was the owner, was incredibly friendly and I could tell he enjoyed what he did. He asked if we had the day off for Presidents Day (we do!) and wished us a good once. Sounds like he had the day off, too, outside of a small order he's received earlier today. He was a super nice guy, and I hope he gets to enjoy the rest of the holiday, too! Samples are allowed for cheese not made in house, too. When I revisit, I'll try a couple more. For now, I'm just glad to have enjoyed this experience, and to have found a local blue cheese I can personally enjoy.

Yelp
Eh, stopped in to get cheese and meat for our pre dinner app tonight and was greeted by someone very rude. We decided to go with a wrapped salami and when asking the employee which ones they had she had to pick them up and read off the label but was having a hard time reading due to her prescription I believe but honestly I could have done a better job selling it. We went with a salami and some cheese curds and when we referred to them as blocks of cheese we were met with nothing but attitude instead of explanation. Thanks anyway.
google avatar

Raeme K.

Yelp
Stopped in to get some cheese this past weekend. The owner was fantastic! We left with some tasty cheeses. I loved the jack the best! Can't wait to go back. We are so lucky to be close to the Barlow and all the wonderful establishments it has!
google avatar

Jenny S.

Yelp
We stopped in today on a spontaneous trip to Sebasterpol and OMG! The cheddar and cheese curds are amazing. They were so nice and welcoming from the moment we walked in. As in sitting here snacking on my purchase from today's visit, I found that I can order more online! So excited!

Michaela S.

Yelp
I bought their younger English cheddar, as the owner told me he learned to make cheese in Somerset, England. As a Brit, addicted to cheese, I thought I'd give it a try. Wow!! I was not disappointed. I wish I lived in the area, it was the best English cheddar I've eaten. Luckily, I'd also picked up some bread from the Red Bird Bakery close by, and together, they were heaven on a plate. If you are passing through Sebastopol, as I was, then stop and hunt this place down. It is in The Barlow, tucked away in a corner. You won't be disappointed, truly delicious!
google avatar

Carol J.

Yelp
We received several cheeses as a Christmas gift. The cheddar is outstanding - very flavorful. I usually eat only small amounts of cheese but couldn't resist eating more. We can't wait to try the othrrs!
google avatar

Wayne H.

Yelp
Very cool place. Got to try three different cheeses, a blue cheese, a cheddar, and cheese curds. The man working at the shop (guessing the owner) said that he went to England to learn how to make the cheddar. I ended up purchasing 1/4 pound of the cheddar, which was very smooth and delicious. Definitely worth checking out if you are in the area!
google avatar

Kitt H.

Yelp
Excited for the first production out of this new cheese shop! I purchased a couple of really delicious cheeses from their retail case, but their upcoming main products will be a local Stilton-type blue and an aged cheddar, both British-styled. Excited and looking forward to the release later this year!

Yelp
Happened on this little slice of heaven by Zazu Restaurant. What a find! The owner came out, greeted us, and offered us some samples. Told us about how they created their cheeses and I was hooked. Delicious, creamy, heaven. I only Yelp on the best!
google avatar

Laura G.

Yelp
Delightful selection of cheeses. Their cheddar is absolutely delightful as is their Camembert. I stock up every time I am in the area. The staff is lovely and helpful and patient.

Pat G.

Yelp
Stopped by here as an accident - after checking out the Village Bakery down the way. THIS IS A MUST STOP FOR FOODIES ESP. CHEESEY FOLKS!! And yes, their hours are limited. Parking can be difficult, but there is a parking lot behind their building.

Michael R.

Yelp
I tried their products at the Cheese Festival last weekend, and I was blown away. Cheese curds are too mild for my taste, but the cheddar is very good. The best, however, is their Stilton-style blue cheese which is excellent - up there with the best English product I've tasted. Brilliant!
