After an epic racquetball match with my close personal friend Pat Harrington Jr. (best known as Schneider on TV's "One Day at a Time"*), we were spent both emotionally and physically. Even though he's 82, he's astonishingly spry and a fierce competitor...when I gave him a racquet to the knee to throw him off his game, he took it like a champ! Needless to say, he crushed me, but revenge shall be mine!
Anyway, we were hungry and thirsty and since I lost, I picked our post-game venue, Wogies. What better way to soothe my bruised ego after being schooled by an octogenarian than with cheesesteaks and beers?
Wogies does it right. It was a beautiful day so we sat outside, which was awesome. Decent beer selection with some favorites like Magic Hat and Six Point Sweet Action. I chose the latter because it has what I call "drinkability". Pat ordered a Bud Light with a lemon wedge, two olives and a dash of Tabasco (he's a freak, I know).
One thing we did agree on was the sandwiches...we both got the cheesesteak with onions and provolone. I know Philly purists will cry foul that we didn't get it with Wiz, but I'm a provolone guy. Sandwiches were great...meat was cooked well, onions were perfect, the roll was nice and fresh and didn't fall apart. Waffle fries were also very good. From a food perspective, everything was great. Service was also good, even though they only had one waitress working both inside and out.
Next time I go back, I want to try the much-heralded wings. And maybe next time, I'll give Pat Harrington Jr. the ass-whipping he so richly deserves on the racquetball court. I'll kick your butt, Pat, or else break your hip trying!
