Denver’s Best Chinese Restaurants | Eater Denver

"If balance is the be-all end-all of good cooking, this warm, welcoming Sichuan-centric arrival on the Englewood scene is in the running for Denver’s best new Chinese restaurant. The interplay of vivid colors; crisp and tender textures; and umami, spicy, and herbaceous flavors distinguishes every last dish, from zesty wok-fried lotus root to oversized cumin lamb buns to green chili pork belly and pickled pepper beef to the singular dry pepper eggplant. A full bar pouring fruity retro cocktails only sweetens the pot (or wok, as the case may be)." - Ruth Tobias

Google
Very clean, modern and unique decor with friendly, helpful staff. The food was by far the best Chinese food I have had in Denver, if not so far in my adult life. We got steamed dumplings for an appetizer, I had the Mongolian beef for my entree, which was tender and flavorful, and my husband got the Chongqing chicken, which they seasoned extra spicy perfectly for his high tolerance for spice. Portions were generous and plating was so nice that I took photos of everything. Will definitely visit again! Highly recommend!

Google
We ordered takeout and it was excellent - we got the egg fried rice, Mongolian beef, egg drop soup, and the Chongqing Chili Chicken, all of which were delicious and full of flavor. We highly recommend Wok Spicy! We will be back soon. Great food at a reasonable price!

Google
Had a good time at Wok Spicy last night. We ordered Chilli Chicken, Mapo Tofu and Louts Cauliflower dry wok. The chicken was excellent, with the right amount of spice - crunchy and flavorful. Same goes for the tofu as well. The dry wok that we chose was not the best but I will reserve my judgment until I try the other dry wok dishes. The portions were more than enough for me and my wife and we had leftovers to take home. No issues with the service either. Would highly recommend this place! I am def coming back for more

Google
The worst Chinese restaurant ever! At first the cup they give us was dirty. We order five dishes and it took so long for it to come. The cauliflower was soooo salty. The fish stink, feels like it is been dead for a long time. The spicy beef is also very disgusting. The way they did the spicy beef is not the right way that is supposed to be done! The rice I don’t know why they mix vinegar to it. I totally don’t recommend this restaurant to anybody, unless if you want to get food poisoning.

Google
We came here for lunch. The server was very friendly and attentive, restaurant was very clean and welcoming. We ordered the Pork Intestine in Dry Wok and House Stir Fried Cabbage, it was really tasty and authentic. It tasted so good so we ordered something to takeout for dinner but we are kinda disappointed with both the stir fried string beans and Chongqing Chili Chicken. The beans were way over cooked and Chongqing Chili Chicken tasted sweet which is not what we expected. It was a bummer that we expected our dinner to be as good as we had for lunch. That’s why only 4 stars, otherwise it would have been 5 stars.

Ron A.

Google
Salt and pepper shrimp was hot and spot on top hot for me but still very tasty.. Garlic Ginger beef was also quite tasty, heat was just right for me and a little warm Crab rangoons as well. We will be back for the salt and pepper shrimp for sure and try some of the other spicy foods

Google
Can’t wait to come back! Got the spicy Sichuan wontons, beef dry wok, and chongqing chili chicken. Fresh and full of flavor. Everyone was so nice and attentive. Our waitress helped us pick everything out as we’d never been there before.

Anna L.

Google
The flavors are amazing here- every dish we got hit the spot. The chili wontons are a must. The service is fast and the waitress was super friendly. I’ll definitely be coming back!

Yelp
It's a little out of the way, but still on the route home. It used to be Twin Dragon for many years. Now it's been remodeled, and the staff are super friendly and attentive! The renovation has made the place feel much more open and bright. We ordered the scallion pancake, beef in dry wok, and crispy fried pork. The pancake is perfectly deep-fried, making it really crispy. The Beef Fry Wok has that numbing spiciness that's just amazing!! The crispy pork is just as good! I will definitely come back!!!!

Yelp
Hmmm. I decided to give Wok Spicy another try despite not loving the first visit because it continues to get glowing reviews from locals as one of the best Szechuan options in the Denver metro area. Brought my husband along with me too for a second opinion. We got wontons in chili oil, a soft shell crab bao, some lamb skewers, Ma Po Tofu, and fish in chili oil. Same as my last visit, we found the wontons in chili oil to be weirdly sweet. The bao was delightful, though the panko breading was a bit thick for me. No complaints on the entrees but it didn't blow our minds either. My Ma Po Tofu was nicely flavored but lacking in pork. The lamb skewers were fantastic, but they were a special not in the regular menu. Overall I think this is a solid Pan-Asian restaurant with a nice dining room a great service. It just suffers from not living up to all the hype.

Yelp
Glad there's parking in the back! This neighborhood Chinese restaurants looks upgraded from a strip mall one of the same kind. I can tell the goers are from the neighborhood and just hanging out in a warm afternoon. Neither my friend nor I want anything spicy which was ironic given the name of the restaurant and the fact that they serve Sichuan cuisine. After looking over the lunch specials, which were all pretty affordable, she settled for Hunan chicken with fried rice. The fried rice looked to me like white rice with soy sauce added, no bueno. But the chicken was not spicy, to my surprise! I thought Hunan region is known for their spicy food... I spotted the Chow Mein and asked if it's crispy noodles or more like lo mein. Was told the latter so I ordered it since I didn't want anything deep fried. After my friend got her food, our waiter came out with non-stop apologies that the chow mein is indeed deep fried to golden crispy. That's ok, I told him, and asked to switch to Beef Chow Fun. It came out pretty quickly and the portion was quite big. I don't remember if it was from the dinner menu though. The thing I liked most about my dish was that they used soy bean sprouts, which are pretty rare in beef chow fun (usually it's mung bean sprouts). I can only give Wok Spicy 3 stars for the non-spicy dishes. Perhaps the spicy dishes will surprise me, I'll have to come back and find out!

Yelp
川天地 Walk the wok talk the TOC is located on SOBO south of Broadway in hole of a wall building. Parking is aka awkward but we came here to eat not valet. The menu has Chinese English on it. Oily scallion pancake is how I like it. Dry pot you have a good selection of beef and cauliflower. Don't expect hot pot here they are more stir-fry. Didn't try the 白切鸡 Steamed cold chicken - it's translated to White Cut Chicken a famous dish in Canton region. On special they had Lamb or Beef skewers $10 it was bit undercooked ask for well done next time. Overall I'm a fan of WS World Series of Sichuan cuisine.

Yelp
This time we did egg drop soup which I liked I'll stick to the hot and sour and beef and broccoli it wasn't to bad, but I'm in love with the sesame chicken my cowork got ill be back for it.

Bruce C.

Yelp
Fantastic. This is NOT your run of the mill Chinese restaurant! Yes, they have items you'll find elsewhere, but do much more, including luncheon specials. My wife and I tried some new dishes (to us) and both entrees and the one appetizer were wonderful. Will definitely go back.
google avatar

Alison C.

Yelp
My husband and I have had our eyes on trying this place out. They have their own little parking area which is amazing for being on Broadway. We came here with a group and we were able to try quite a few dishes. We really liked the Cumin lamb and the pickled greens with fish. Also, we have tried their baos and they are very large, but tasty. They do have a party room too, which is helpful if you need space to hold a party. Their dishes for parties are a bit more on the pricey side, but their food was good. Everyone loved the tofu fish dish and the pickled cucumbers were a fresh addition to our spread. I'll definitely be back to try out more of their menu.

Yelp
I love this place. True to the name almost everything on the menu has a little chili icon next to it. The deep fried shell on shrimp was suggested, and while it tasted great, with a nice bit of kick, you either had to eat them with shells on (which I find unpleasant) or else remove the shells and with it the light, crusty batter. A shame because it's so great. The staff is always at a top level of service and the vibe is clean and bright and open.
google avatar

Yelp
We dined in recently so I wanted to share photos of our dishes. Everything from the appetizer menu was spectacular. It was my first time trying Wok Spicy's Takoyaki and bao. The Takoyaki was great and the octopus was cooked perfectly. I suggest waiting for them to cool down a bit, as eating the piece whole gives you the best umami and crunch with everything. We also ordered duck and pork belly bao buns. I was a bit disappointed with the bao. The filling was minimal compared to the bun portion, and the texture was foamy and difficult to chew. However, the filling of each was delicious and I just wish I had more of it and that the bun was steamed.

Yelp
To start off, staff is really nice and attentive so service is really good. They weren't busy when we got there but we did arrive at like 7:30. It's a big space with plenty of spacing between tables. We ordered a variety of items. My favorites were the cumin lamb and Mongolian beef. Both dishes were flavorful and the heat was not overbearing. It was just right to make the dishes taste really well. So those two are recommended dishes. Everything else we had ordered was just okay. They weren't a standout. The dry pot was interesting but not what I was expecting. The cucumbers and eggplant were pretty good veggie dishes to compliment the meal. I would avoid the salt and pepper tofu because it was just fried tofu without any seasoning. It was quite bland.

Yelp
Ordered for pick up. The place has its own private parking. Walking in, the place looked very nice and clean. We got our food right away. Food was nicely packed. The mapu tofu was a little greasy. But very tasty. The beef in dry wok was good. A little salty for me. But with rice, you don't notice it. The best dish was the sautéed green beena with pork. It was my favorite. Will definitely come here again and try other dishes.

Yelp
A++ on food! Also service and ambiance was nice. There for the food and it hit the spot. Spicy, numbing, hot, salty, sweet, and sour. Mapo Tofu was the best I have ever had! Fish Fillet in Dry Pot was crispy and flavorful with a slight sweetness. Pickled Pepper Beef was an underdog, and Chongqing Chili Chicken was a flavor bomb too. So glad there is a really good Szechuan style Chinese restaurant. Also great for the winter!!

Thomas K.

Yelp
Order our dinner for Christmas Eve night before for 15 people. Called an hour before to confirm it would be ready at 6:00 and they said yes. We got there and waited hour and 30 min with no apology. Place was a total disaster people waiting. Should not be open on a holiday if you can perform. This was 2nd time this has happened. There won't be a 3rd
google avatar

Yelp
Not the same old items Real items like wontons in chili oil and my favorite salted fish fried rice - it's really good! Nice staff seemed glad to have you there

Yelp
My friend and I came here on a Monday evening around 6:40pm. It was quite empty. The restaurant has a lot of seating. There is a small parking lot on the side of the bldg. We split 4 appetizers (came out to $25/person after tip and tax) because we wanted to try a variety. Hot and sour soup bowl size large: This was very tasty and on point. The quantity was quite large. It was about 4 small soup bowl servings. Def more worth it than getting 2 small bowls of soup. 4 Crab Wontons: These were ok. Duck sauce was suuuuper sweet. Scallion Pancake: These were over fried. They were crunchy almost like chips. Not good. My friend wasn't a fan at all. But the hoisin type sauce was good. 4 Spicy Pork Dumplings: These were ok. I didn't think they had much flavor. My friend liked them. Overall it was okay. Dinner entree prices were in the mid $20s which seemed kind of expensive.

Yelp
Wok Spicy has quickly become one of our favorite places to order takeout from. The food is consistently delicious and the portions are great (usually enough for leftovers the next day!). Some of the fried food like the salt and pepper shrimp aren't as crispy when ordering takeout, due to sitting in the close box, but popping them in the air fryer for a bit helps. Occasionally they'll forget the wonton strips with the egg drop soup but I just try to remind them if I'm calling in the order. They are usually good about double bagging anything that might leak, although one time something did leak sauce on my passenger seat, so just give everything a once over when picking up and you'll be good. Get the szechuan boiled fish or beef! Yum!

Michael F.

Yelp
This is the best Asian food since Chinatown in NYC. It doesn't look like much outside and atmosphere inside is plain but very clean. However the food speaks for itself. I've been there 4 x and every dish was excellent. Don't miss the pork belly or pork rib hot wok. I don't live in Denver but visit there when I am. Definitely a hidden gem.
google avatar

Jeffrey D.

Yelp
Staff was nice and attentive in their service. The lightening was a little too dark for me. Food was not for me. We ordered a lot but not much was a standout. I can see how folks may like it but this just wasn't made for my palette
google avatar

Cindy L.

Yelp
Really tasty Chinese food. I think it is more northern Chinese in style, so if you want Cantonese flavors, this might not be the place for you. However, if you want to try food that is slightly different and delicious, I recommend Wok Spicy. The Sizzling Beef Short rib is excellent. The stir fried baby bok choy was cooked perfectly. The restaurant atmosphere is average and the service is very attentive. The parking spaces in the parking lot are kind of narrow, so if you have a large truck, it might be easier to park in the neighborhood and walk a half block to the restaurant.

Amy Y.

Yelp
My family and I enjoyed our meal at this establishment! I thought the flavors of the entrees that we ordered were delicious and unique! Each dish was cooked differently and did not have the same generic sauces used in other Chinese restaurants. The Sichuan spice level was perfectly seasoned and within our palate! I was especially happy to find an authentic Chinese menu too! Service was on point too! Our server checked on us and filled our waters and gave us extra napkins. He was also courteous and cordial. I am looking forward to trying other items on the menu for our next visit!
google avatar

Hendra W.

Yelp
Authentic Sichuan cuisine is a must-try. While Sichuan food is typically spicy, it's not overwhelmingly hot. Be sure to try their Chongqing dishes--they're delicious and highly recommended!

Janee J.

Yelp
SO GOOD!!! Genuinely, the best meal of my life!!!! I got the salt and pepper pork ribs and was FLOORED by the depth of flavor! The restaurant was nice and welcoming, the staff were so kind and helpful! I want to eat here everyday for the rest of my life if you haven't gone here what are you even doing with your life? THANK YOU THANK YOU WOK SPICY
google avatar

Yelp
Yum! We got take out from here on a Friday night and it probably took about 20 minutes. We ordered a hot and spicy soup, wonton soup, string bean with minced pork, and shrimp tempura bao bun. It also came with a thing of white rice and crispies for the soup. The string beans and shrimp bao bun were awesome, very thoroughly satisfied! My fiancé also really liked the wonton soup. We didn't actually end up trying the hot and spicy yet, but it looks really good! Overall, very pleased and would definitely order from again!

Jamie S.

Yelp
Went to wok spicy this weekend and it was delicious! Been looking for some Szechuan food in Denver and was impressed. Really loved the dry wok chicken and the chili wontons. Everything could've been spicier but it was tasty nonetheless. The service was also great- server was super attentive and the kitchen was fast. Would highly recommend

T D.

Yelp
Have to say this was extremely disappointing today. Ordered twice cooked pork pork and got cooked cabbage.
google avatar

James M.

Yelp
Twin Dragon is now Wok Spicy. I had the dry wok pork belly. It had a spicy brown sauce served in a small wok. Scallion pancake was my appetizers. Great service and food quality and portion. Danny Zheng, the new owner offered me a glass of wine. He said it's more important to make a friend before a customer. A great perspective of their A+ customer service. He has both in me. I'll look forward to my next dining experience.
google avatar

Kelsey T.

Yelp
Truly amazing, Wok Spicy just became my favorite sichuan restaurant! It's clean and definitely larger than expected indoors! We came on a slow day but the food did not disappoint! I was beginning to give up hope and accept that we'd never find a truly great sichuan restaurant but I'm so glad we tried Wok Spicy. We ordered Hot & Sour soup, Pickled Pepper Beef, Chongqing Chicken, Mapo Tofu and Dry Pot Wok w/ Fish Filet. I was hungry obviously... and we took most of it home. I TRULY enjoyed every dish we ordered, but my absolute favorite (so far) was the pickled pepper beef. It's got a ton of flavor and the right balance of savory and pickled. The service was so nice, quick and friendly. Our server kept me loaded on water refills because honestly some of this stuff was spicier than I expected but I couldn't stop eating it still. Only suggestion I would have is for the Hot & Sour soup Large size to be labelled as medium instead, because that bowl is definitely not a large bowl. Highly recommend this place!
google avatar

Kristen W.

Yelp
Delicious is my first impression! We popped in and enjoyed a fresh and spicy dinner. We love a little kick and there were several items available. We loved the Mongolian Beef, spicy shrimp, wontons in chili and the amazing green beans. We will definitely be back for dine in and takeout!
google avatar

Diane F.

Yelp
Food delicious, generous portions, food made fast, fresh and wok hot!!!! Very clean, and polite staff. Nice environment. I got the lo mein.
google avatar

David C.

Yelp
The crab rangoons were very good and flavorful. Daughter liked the wonton soup, but didn't like the actual wontons as much as she often does. Drunken noodles with chicken - this was good, but different than a traditional Thai restaurant Sichuan chicken - this was good General Tao's chicken - we've ordered this every time - very good. Lo mein - she liked this and usually doesn't like lo mein - large noodles, large veggies including mushrooms
google avatar

Thao T.

Yelp
Flavorful and quality Chinese food, reasonable prices, clean and new interior, great service. My family and I really enjoyed Wok Spicy and will definitely be back. Food was so fresh and tasty.
google avatar

Michael H.

Yelp
I got hungry for some hot sour soup and my wife and I returned here. We found the salt and pepper tofu to be outstanding. It had a very thin, crisp batter and also some nice spices chopped up on the plate. Highly recommend the salt and pepper tofu! Shrimp dumpling appetizer was just ok. Service was excellent.
google avatar

Ashley A.

Yelp
Do Not Judge this book by its cover it is a true gem !! Food was amazing, fresh and tasty! Beautiful presentation as well. Our waitress was very in tune with needs and friendly . Everything about this experience was great and beat our expectations! Definitely will be back and recommend !
google avatar

Jerry S.

Yelp
I've tried all of the sichuan restaurants in Denver, by far this place is the best. I love spicy food and this place is very authentic in their 'ma la' flavors. The service is also very good. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Sokna N.

Yelp
Absolutely loved the wok spicy! Perfectly balanced heat and flavor. Fresh ingredients, delicious seasoning--everything was spot on. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Joe C.

Yelp
I wont be eating here again. Worst lunch Ive had in a while. Ordered Sechuan Beef, got chicken. When I got the correct order there was barely any Beef in the dish and flavor was bland. Food is not disgusting, but its not worth my time or money. The high rating this place has is artificially inflated to make the food seem better than it actually is.
google avatar

Kyle P.

Yelp
Recently moved here from California, and was looking for a classic Szechuan numbing spice. Order twice, the first time was amazing and felt like we had chosen the right place. We got takeout a second time last night and everything was bland. To the point of even the fried rice, not being enjoyable.
google avatar

Alyssa C.

Yelp
We came on a weekday afternoon and the service was perfect. Everything came out quick and our server was friendly. They have so many items to choose from and I like how the menu is laid out by protein. The chicken and garlic shrimp were fire! And the garlic cucumbers I loved. We will be back to try the salt and pepper wings that our server told us to try.
google avatar

Linda P.

Yelp
Wok Spicy is in the redecorated location of the former Twin Dragons on Broadway. We've been twice and loved the food both times. They have a reasonably priced lunch menu from which we ordered our midday meals. The eggplant with garlic sauce, general tsao chicken, Seshwan beef and another beef lunch dish were all delicious and we'd definitely order any again. Service was attentive. Decor was clean and welcoming.
google avatar

Shaun R.

Yelp
Went here for lunch after reading all the positive reviews and was glad I did! Was seated quickly and the staff was very friendly. Our orders came out as ordered and at a good temperature. It does take a little longer than I was expecting to get the entrees, but it was worth the wait! Started off with spring rolls and hot and sour soup. Both items were very tasty. Wish I ordered the bowl over the cup of soup it was that good! I ordered the Mongolian beef with white rice for my entree and was very satisfied with the portion and flavors. The food here is truly very good and I will definitely be back soon when I'm in the area and craving Chinese food.
google avatar

Jaelene W.

Yelp
Delicious! Always quick and easy delivery. Best Chinese food we've found that everyone enjoys. We are going to miss it when we move!
google avatar

Karen E.

Yelp
They Just opened Service was great and the food is fresh and flavorful with not a lot of salt Lots of vegan options with good portions Special requests were not an issue
google avatar

Laureen O.

Yelp
Stopped by on a recommendation. Happy we did. For is quite tasty and satisfying. Ww had a nice range from hot and sour soup scallion pancakes, Sichuan string beans, moo shu pork and salt and pepper squid. The lychee Martini is also worth mentioning. Service is attentive but more importantly, the food is very good. We would definitely come back.
google avatar

Yelp
You know how sometimes you get a dish that is so good that you eat every last morsel, and then when packing up the rest of your leftovers you're so overcome with sadness that it's gone that you order THAT SAME DISH again, but to-go this time, so you can have it again later? Oh, ha, yeah me neither. But if I were to do that kind of thing -- hypothetically, of course-- it would be the sichuan string beans (with pork) from Wok Spicy. Those things were the undisputed winner of the dinner table and a standout 5 stars. We also ordered the kung pao chicken (4 star), Orange chicken (3.5), dry wok cauliflower (3.5), chicken lo mein (tasty, but awfully veggie heavy 3), roasted duck bao (3), and chili oil wontons (3.5). As a renowned lover of cucumber even I was surprised to see them almost all of the dishes (my first cooked cucumber experience, to be sure), but word to the wise, if you hate cukes you'll have to specifically order them without (even when you leaaast expect it). Overall a solid dining experience and I would consider again if I find myself in the area at meal time. Ohhh who am I kidding? We'll probably make a special trip for the string beans alone (and so should you).
google avatar

Yuki D.

Yelp
Wow! Wow! Wow! I am absolutely blown away by the Sichuan string beans with minced pork, found in the vegetables section on the menu. Price - $13.95 Served with a bowl of white rice. Even the rice was perfectly cooked. Large portion with lots of string beans. The flavor is infused into the beans, and the dish wasn't oily whatsoever. Perfect garlic crisped just the right amount, with a good amount of sesame seeds on top. A couple of red chilis added the little kick. The menu is extensive! They serve the typical items like egg rolls, hot and sour soup, lo mein, chicken and broccoli, sesame chicken, etc. Alongside a large selection of seafood. There were several takeout orders. I can't wait to go back to try the bao and the hot pot and the soft shelled crab and the fish dishes. Our waitress was nice, and she made sure that we always had water. She let us know they've been open 3 months. May 2024. I highly recommend this restaurant. It is a gem. It rises to the level of Star Kitchen dim sum. The ambiance is gorgeous! Brand new everything. So beautiful... I want to say that it sparkled. I know it sounds silly, lol. A unique dining space, fantastic decor, Colorado nature photos. The chairs and tables setup reminds me of places with authentic Chinese dishes. Wok Spicy is HUGE inside! It would be a great place for big groups, family reunions, birthday parties, and even wedding reception! Large parking lot, brighly illuminated. Wide, too, unlike the cramped and small lot at Far East Center. It's across the street from Walgreen's. The plain red and white sign up front fooled us wholeheartedly! 'Wok Spicy' just became my top restaurant in Denver.
google avatar

Tingan Z.

Yelp
So freaking good. Authentic Sichuan menu with lots of spice! We think it's comparable to some of the best Sichuan restaurants in Houston, LA, and New York.
google avatar

Kent H.

Yelp
Finally a great Chinese restaurant in Englewood. This place is fantastic! If you like a bit more flavor, ask for extra spicy. So far been there 5 times. Great food and service every time. You got to try it.
google avatar

Jessie Elizabeth J.

Yelp
Real Sichuan peppercorn numbing flavor here!!! The inside is spacious and welcoming, great atmosphere and service. The menu is extensive and has so many delicious Sichuan options! We tried the pork belly dry wok and spicy boiled beef. The meat in both was so tender! Lots of herbaceous flavor with that mouth numbing, addictive tangy Sichuan peppercorn spice! Fresh rice and a fun alcohol menu too, we split a sake. This will easily become one of my go-to spots
google avatar

Alex B.

Yelp
Long story short, this is probably the best Chinese (Sichuan/American) food I have ever had in my life. Not exaggerating. I discovered the restaurant on my home from work and noticed they had just recently opened so my girlfriend and I wanted to support a new, local restaurant. We are very glad we did. I think 8ve written 2 Yelp reviews total so excuse my lack of review finesse that a "Yelp Elite" reviewer would post but I felt like posting my experience to help out a new restaurant and to let people know where to get incredible Chinese food. I'm not really a Yelper so I'm not going to go into Food & Wine magazine food review detail but I will say that the food is extremely good. I do want to point out that the crab Rangoons were fried perfectly. Every other Rangoon I've ever had is too crispy at the folded points so they end up crumbling on my plate. These were perfectly fried and soft enough to eat the whole thing without crumbling and cutting into roof of my mouth. A miracle on Broadway. Thank you, Wok Spicy!!
