"For Chinese food that comes with a deeply American soundtrack and a party vibe, this is the spot. Google
Grew up in the area and didn’t find this gem until recently. Best Chinese takeout around. Never misses. Kind helpful owner. My wife and I used to order from many places to mix it up, and when we found this we stopped ordering anywhere else. 11/10 would recommend!

Google
They close way too early in my option for a Chinese place. The food is fine, not bad nothing special. You can kind of eat inside but you have to stand and it’s not climate controlled. Friendly staff.

We love Wok Star! We order at least twice a month! The owner is very friendly and the food is delicious!

I Ordered online and I thought I was ordering from the regular all day menu but they gave me the lunch special, no where was I able to say what kind of rice, I wanted white and I got fried, I could not order a soup choice and I got an egg roll no soup (my fault for not asking) general tso chicken was tough and chewy, I will not be back. I used to go there a few times a month back when Pooh was there. Down Hill. I should have gone to China Pavilion IV.

I ordered a side order of boneless spare ribs small and a egg roll for my mom the ribs were very good and delicious 😋 perfectly cooked and not greased my mom enjoyed the egg roll. The prices are very good 👍 and cheaper than other Chinese restaurants. The young Asian lady who works there was very nice and sweet. Also the place was very clean and easy to find. I will definitely order again. ☺️ They don't offer delivery but you can use door dash but it's very close to where I live so I don't mind pickup.

After reading the good reviews we decided to give this restaurant a try. Everything ordered was bland. (Not even condiments helped). Fried rice was a pale yellow with white chicken that looked steamed or boiled, so it wasn’t really fried rice. Spare ribs were brown, dry and tasteless. Shrimp egg foo young had a nice consistency but again no flavor and very few shrimp. Wonton soup was salty with inedible wontons. Pork fried rice was bland. I gave this restaurant 3 stars as the food seemed fresh, but very disappointing. The search for decent Chinese take out nearby continues.

Ordered the veggie soup and spring rolls through Grubhub. The lady was helpful over the phone to answer my questions. Also the soup was really good with good amount of veggies. The spring rolls were good too. Will order more food from here.

Ordered from Wok Star for the first time today. The House Special Lo Mein tasted okay, but was large on noodles but woefully shy on protein. I ordered the General Tso’s Chicken to be medium spicy but there wasn’t a hint of spice. Aside from the spice the dish was just okay. The chicken fried rice was undercooked and crunchy. The chicken Lo Mein got a good review from a family member. The real telltale sign that Wok Star isn’t even trying is that their “homemade” mustard is actually Gulden’s Spicy Brown mustard in little travel cups. That’s just sad. Overall, it was less than average and not even good enough to consider for a second chance.

Yelp
Good basic Chinese American takeout. VERY reasonable prices. Quick service and very nice family business.

Yelp
Wok star is consistently good basic Chinese We always have chicken chow mein or moo goo gai pan sometimes vegetable dish basic old fashion Cantonese style and always meets are needs. Recommend

Yelp
I wish I could give Wok Star Kitchen more than five stars! The people that work there are such incredibly nice people. Not only that, they have great take away Chinese food! :) We order from there on a regular basis and each and every meal has been simply amazing. Cheers Wok Star!!!

Yelp
I read all of the reviews before ordering and noted recent reviews were excellent and so I decided to give the place a try. I was happy that I made the right choice. All of our noodle dishes were excellent and the General's Chicken which can often be mushy from takeout places had crispy pieces of chicken with the right amount of spice. Service was incredibly friendly when I went to pick up my order. I would definitely consider again as there is a lack of high quality Chinese takeout places in the area.

Yelp
Wok Star is hands down, the best, Chinese takeout place I've been to and Ive been to many. Been going here for 10 years. the food is tremendous. They make it to order low sodium if you want and always greeted with a pleasant, friendly smile.

Yelp
Wok Star Kitchen seems to be your run of the mill Chinese take-out place. No tables. The same menu you've seen at hundreds of other Chinese take-out places. There are no special dishes that are unique to this place. I remember coming here quite a while ago and had no distinctive memory of my experience one way or the other. On my way home from work tonight I noticed their store-front as I drove by, and decided to give Wok Star Kitchen another try. That proved to be a bad decision. Upon entering I was hit by an overwhelming odor of what seemed to be rancid oil. Perhaps it was burnt oil, or maybe the oil in the deep fryer had been used too many times. Whatever it was, it immediately killed my desire to eat anything from this place. Needless to say, I turned around and left (hoping the rancid grease molecules hadn't yet bonded with my clothing). Normally I don't like to leave a negative review when I haven't eaten the food, but in this case I'm willing to make an exception. There are better Chinese restaurants very close by... well, in all honesty they may not be better restaurants, but they certainly do smell better.

Dash N.

Yelp
I have eaten here many times and the food has always been exceptionally delicious. The wings with fries is my favorite choice but everything on the menu is great.

Scott S.

Yelp
Went in to get a take out menu and the food smelled awesome so I got an egg roll since I already had dinner. Yummy. Not greasy and had a nice satisfying crunch. I would go back here and based on the other Yelp reviews I have seen I will the next time I'm in the area.

Hannah S.

Yelp
Big Fan of the Chicken Chow Mein, the vegetables are very crisp and bright, the sauce this dish comes in is fantastic and I've had it multiple times and the consistency is there. Chicken wings are also very good, cooked just right. I for the first time tried the fried dumplings and they unfortunately did not hit the mark, they were quite doughy and the filling was just not enough for all the dough they use to make them. I will continue to order what's good. Definitely give them a try.

Mina S.

Yelp
Always great food and service. The owners are always so kind. Glad to have this restaurant in our town.

Steph S.

Yelp
Old owners were very nice and food was good but the inside was so filthy. Now the new owners cleaned it up and made it 100 times nicer inside. Food is just as good if not better and take out is served in reusable tupperware.

J P.

Yelp
Tasty Chinese food prepared quickly. Beef and broccoli was delicious. Pork with Chinese vegetables was also quite tasty. However something very strange.... the pork egg rolls were really tasteless. I actually thought it was me so I had someone else try it and they agreed. Otherwise food was enjoyable

Sam S.

Yelp
Close your eyes and go for it. They are that good. I had TSO chicken over fried rice and soup. The chicken dish is really good, plus they provide a hot oil to add extra spice to your meal Recommended for a quick lunch.

Mike P.

Yelp
Typical Americanized fast-food Chinese takeout joint. The portions and prices are fair, and the food is absolutely fine. If you're looking for a quick Chinese fix, want it fairly quickly and live locally, this place is absolutely fine. If you're looking for something special, this is not your place. The food is not too greasy, and everything is basically on point. The salt content is not over the top, and the food pretty much tastes like you'd expect it too without any disappointment or surprise. They run some very good lunch specials at very good value. This is not a place to dine-in, as there are no tables. It's strictly take-out. In summary, you get a decent enough meal, with large portions, at a more than reasonable price. It's a good place to get a quick Chinese fix for the family, or to get a nice meal with leftovers to last the weekend.

Ian N.

Yelp
Mixed bag here. The egg roll was awesome and the dumplings were very good. They had a nice thick dough on them, and steamed well. The general tsao's was a bit strange color wise, but had a nice crunch and flavor. Not bad. The scallion pancake was the worst I've ever had. Thick and doughy, just gross. I can't comment on the spare ribs, because they forgot to give them to me.

Doc M.

Yelp
Wok Star has come leaps and bounds from its former self. For 1, it's actually very clean. 2, the food tastes better. 3. The people that own Wok Star are really nice. = a really good local takeout Chinese place!

Cooper Y.

Yelp
I've been coming here for many many years and it was my top 2 favorite Chinese take outs in the area. My first choice in Livingston closed many years ago unfortunately. On my last visit, I didn't realize the ownership has changed (I was out of the area for a while). I was disappointed to not see the prior ownership who were great. Anyways, I think Chinese takeouts are going through transitional period where the first generation is passing on the batons to the younger people. The young staff here was very friendly. I was hoping the chef/food will be the same. But no. It has become an average Joe Chinese takeout place. No longer has the pork fried rice contained a good mixture of vegetables and pork meat. No longer has the wonton soup contained pork strips or scallions. No longer has the sesame chicken contained more meat than the dough. The extra touches that the prior ownership put into the food seem to be missing. I know this is not fair to the new ownership and overall it is not bad. It is just that it does not stand out anymore.

Vin V.

Yelp
Place is awful. I live only a few minutes away and food was ice cold. Beef and broccoli formed a gelatin and when confronted and asked for refund on cold it's end of order and offered to give them back was not given a refund. Absolutely horrible

Dave S.

Yelp
The rundown: It was exactly what I thought it would be. Decent Chinese food at a good price. Just got a new job in Roseland so I'm trying out new lunch spots. Lunch specials are a good value ($6 and change for sesame chicken with either soup or a can of soda). White rice could use a little work but the fried is good. The chicken is cut a little larger than I prefer (I like em bite size) but the sauce is tasty. Been there 3 times so far and I expect to return. Not really any tables to sit down so you'll have to get it to go and there's no delivery. Don't recall if credit cards are accepted. Update: changed to 2 stars. Have tried other chinese joints in the area and like them better.

Yelp
Worst, rudest service I've ever seen. Walked in, asked if they had ribs cooked and ready, was told yes. They charged my credit card, I went next door to grab a pizza (odd combo, I know, but it was a unique circumstance), then went back to get my ribs. Not only was I told they had not even started cooking them yet (two minutes after being told they were already done), but the cashier then refused to issue a refund, told me to wait 20 minutes and be patient. When they still had not began cooking 10 minutes later, and I was again told to be patient, I walked out and filed a charge back with my credit card. I can't rate the food, but I don't need to know, as I'll never go through that door again. RUDE beyond belief.

Jessie S.

Yelp
Very nice woman at the desk who always offers a smile. Boneless ribs are terrific and the moo shu pork is really good. When you find your dish, you'll keep going back.

Big Lou T.

Yelp
Dumpling rock! Fried rice is good, so is the beef & broccoli. A lot cheaper than Mr Chu's & imo, just as good.

Pamela O.

Yelp
I was a frequent customer for two years...i only go here when i work...(not much good food choices close to my job)...I usually ordered shrimp and broccoli with brown fried rice...i decided to try something new one day so I added a scallion pancake on to my order (thinking that it would taste just like the one I get from chinatown restaurant) oh man, this scallion pancake was no where near as good!! It was rubbery, oil laden, tasteless, doughy, disguisting, makes you want to get your money back and smack the cook who would make such a nasty disgusting thing to serve to the customers. I continued to go there, like i said, there arent much food choices around my job...and when you are hungry, you are hungry... I continued to order the shrimp and broccoli with brown fried rice...one day, i realized that the sauce was getting gooier and gooier...there was hardly any sauce in the container to eat with my rice..I asked them can they please use less corn starch so i can have some "real sauce" to eat with my rice...long story short and 5 orders or so ...they only got it right once...I dont understand that at all. I decided to order another dish because for some reason, this one was giving them trouble I ordered shrimp with lobster sauce with no beef...they couldnt get that right, and it even looked like they put extra beef instead of no beef... the order taker said to me..." Im sorry, they put meat inside and i told them not to..." she was saying this while putting the food into the bag to charge me for the order...I was thinking, WTF!!?? she didnt care, she didnt even attemp to ask me if it was okay...or if i wanted another one.. I can keep going on and on about this place... This has been happening over the years I have been going there... and i decided to be alittle more forgiving when I decided to go out to eat because usually i would run out the place if they give me trouble... but never settle for less...there is only so much I can take....and that was the last wonton...I mean straw Overall, the delievery boy is very nice, the food is delicious and fresh(just dont complicate the order too much and you will be fine0....that is all

Donna S.

Yelp
There are several reviewers who gave 3 stars, but then proceeded to say how great the food is. So I'm giving 5 to help up their rating because frankly, they are the best Chinese take out around. Their food is consistent, fresh & perfectly seasoned. It is also good quality and as an added bonus, they are very pleasant and friendly. The one thing that would make it better is if they delivered. But their quality and prices are worth the trip. I'm ordering now.

Rob M.

Yelp
In the words of Dom Deluise, "Nice. Not thrilling but nice." Consistently average Chinese food. Always good for a quick bite or a fast lunch. But there are SO many better places to go.

Lorraine S.

Yelp
So dissapointed. I have been coming here for years (over 10) everything was made to order. Everyone knew me by name. They had the best fried rice made from white and to order (as I never ordered onions) To my dissapointment there are new owners that are making the typical fast food chinese food now :( I would make the 20 minute drive no longer I'll just order locally .....very sad wish I knew they were changing owners and food ...

Laura S.

Yelp
We have ordered takeout from here for a few years. Since the management has changed the food has become much better. I could eat the spring rolls every day. The egg rolls are pretty good too. I usually only order two things as an entree - beef w broccoli combo plate or the general tsao's chicken. Both are delicious and the pork fried rice is great too. We go there once a week and have been happy every single time, stuffed full for less than $20 - can't beat it.

Ashley M.

Yelp
Your typically fast-food Chinese place. Everything takes 5-10 minutes. Lunch specials are sooo inexpensive AND tasty. They have daily specials on a chalkboard in the restaurant as well. I wish they had a website to post those daily as I usually call it in and pick up when I don't have time for a lunch hour.

Anton B.

Yelp
This place is a fantastic value. I ordered take-out for my wife and I. We usually like to try several things, so we bought 3 entrees, a large soup, and 1 appetizer, thinking we'd have enough for dinner and one more meal from the leftovers. Let me tell you, we got so much food for our money. When I got there, I was surprised by the size of the box they gave me. Each of the containers for the entrees was filled to the brim with food; there was no skimping on their part. I weighed it, and I will tell you.. we got 14 pounds of delicious Chinese food for $35. And don't think that this was just cheap, greasy junk. We ordered dumplings, wonton/egg drop mixed soup, kung pao chicken, eggplant in garlic sauce, and orange beef. The food was good, and we were happy that a very reasonable (not too much!) amount of salt was used. Basically, this is not a 5 star Michelin Guide style restaurant. But the food was ready quickly, and we felt the quality was much better than we expected for the cost and amount of food we received. We will definitely eat here again.

William F.

Yelp
Wit the new owners the focus is on the quality of the food , amazing and very clean take out with some counter seats for lunch.... finally a decent restaurant in Roseland :-)

Lianna R.

Yelp
They have the best Chinese food around! I love their General Tso's and chicken and broccoli. I used to live in the area, and we became regulars. I've since moved, but still find my way back. We have yet to find a better Chinese take out within a 30 mile radius. The staff is usually very friendly, the woman there always remembers me, even though I don't get to go back as often as I used to. Highly recommend!

J X.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant in the neighborhood. I work at different offices and I pick one favorite place and always have lunch there. Wok Star is the one I pick in this area. The food is quite tasty, and portion is very generous. I often order their chicken/shrimp with vegetable combo, or beef with tofu, General Tsao Chicken, etc. One of my coworker has lunch there almost everyday for a very long time. We both love the place. The owner and staff are very nice. Highly recommend!

Tom F.

Yelp
Cannot beat the lunch menu fast service good quality kitchen is very clean compared to other chineese take out places. Good value.

Christine W.

Yelp
Seriously the BEST lo mein ever. Period!! Get it every time. Plus you get so much food for the price here, it's fantastic!!

Barbara B.

Yelp
very disappointed. Was a frequent customer - with former management. Food was terrible - will not be coming back.
