The 14 Best Dim Sum Spots In Philly

"South Philly’s Wokano has the classic setup with carts, big families, chandeliers, and tablecloths. It's easy to get swept up in all the egg tarts, fried squid, and king crab claws in your peripheral vision. Our favorites here, though, are the seafood crystal dumplings. They have translucent, paper-thin skin that clings to the filling like a t-shirt in a rainstorm. Like most places on the list, Wokano opens before noon (10:30am), but the menu stays the same throughout the day. " - candis mclean

The owners of Wokano must have sold their souls to someone because I had an otherworldly experience eating this food. Best sesame tofu I’ve ever had. Tofu spring rolls pretty standard but they’re massive and come with both peanut sauce and sweet chili sauce. They were happy to make the sesame tofu gluten free and they also have lots of vegan options. Living close to this place is soon to bleed me dry but I can’t even act like I’m not ecstatic about it. I love you Wokano Asian Bistro.

Google
Yo this place has some of the best Mongolian beef!! I tried a lil of all this food and I loved the seafood soup with udon, don't regrett ordering it but if I went back without friends I'd get the Mongolian beef. The ingredients are quality overall and everything taste amazing. The esthetic of the place is delightful. The waitress was brilliant and the unique tea was exciting.

Google
the best Asian food in cap hill. everything tastes home made, the service is incredible, and the food is *chefs kiss*. highly recommend: kimchi, joam bong, cheese wontons, kobe beef rice bowl.

COCKROACHES - I actually bit into a cockroach from this restaurant. Can't believe it. I did see another person post they found roaches in their food but thought - eh that'd never happen to me. Couldn't be too bad. I've been over my sink throwing up for half an hour after realizing I bit down on one. I hope this place shuts down. Absolutely horrific to find a cockroach in my food and can't imagine how many must be in that restaurant.

Google
Omg!! This has to be HANDS DOWN the most international, eclectic, diverse fusion Asian restaurants I’ve seen here in Denver yet!! It’s a small restaurant that you would normally pass by but it is an absolute must to come to. Incredibly authentic with beautiful Asian decor on the inside and a wide variety of Vietnamese Japanese Korean Chinese + I believe I saw Thai dishes as well - all in one extensive menu!! They even have dishes with steamed options as well for healthier and vegetarian folks as well. They pretty much have everything that you could possibly think of for any kind of eater! I will be here over and over and over again. Such an incredible gem in the heart of Denver! Are we lucky or what!? They are open from 3 to 10 o’clock Monday through Sunday. The food was so incredibly fresh had amazing portions and was delivered in the most authentic Asian presentation! I really wanted to try something with less flavor at first and to try their tofu and their tofu was the most amazing tofu I’ve ever had. My dish was the Bamboo steamer specialty w tofu & veggies!

Google
It was fine as a takeout order. Nothing more, nothing less. Value was good, but not sure if make it my go to spot by any stretch. They give you I think like 8 ragoons per order? That's a good deal. The avocado spring roll was really awful. Like truely awful and I'm surprised something could even make it out the door like that. It also looked incredibly old and suspicious per my pictures.

Good food, and a great price! We did the mango combination plate and rice and shared between two people, and we had extra to take home! For twenty bucks total, it was a great deal for dinner and super tasty.

Google
Best Asian food in the cap hill area. Big portions, great tasting food, and such nice service (especially by the older Asian woman who runs the place). Great vegetarian options and always ready so fast when ordering take out.

Yelp
Hits the spot for cheap chinese! It's within walking distance and has never missed the mark for us.

Yelp
Wow. This place is kind of a nightmare. Been here a couple of times and the food is usually just pretty good, like a 7.1/10 or so. The last 2 times have just been miserable, though. I ordered from here last Sunday night at exactly 9:44 pm on my way home from DIA, and a lot things were closing, and I wanted to get some food in before their 10pm close time. Anyway, so I order about $35.44 worth of food, and the website shows me a blank receipt that says "Thank you for your order", but never gave me an order number. The website says it'll send me an order number to my email. I wait a couple minutes, but it never sends me anything. Whatever, I figure it's probably just one of those places that closes the kitchen before their time listed because no one picked up the phone when I called, so I make nothing of it and just order from Great Wall down the street a little ways, and get my food for the night. But then I look at my bank account the next day, and they still took out the money. I call and this lady answers and says they'll refund the money in the next 3-5 days (no apology btw). I say okay and move on. About 10 days later I'm hungry and want some Thai food and it dawns on that I don't think they ever refunded my $$, so I call. I speak to the same lady that they charged my card and they never processed my refund she told me. She said they didn't call to let me know they weren't refunding it because I didn't have the order number, which quite frankly 1) I didn't have an order number 2) she could've looked at the caller Id and called me back and 3) that's straight bs. I told her it was $35.44, and that I order after hours at 9:44pm. The order could be looked up by that. How many orders are they stealing form people every night that they can't figure out which one to refund? She says she can't process a refund without and order number and just keeps repeating that statement as I calmly explain multiple times (in varying wording) that they didn't give me a order number in my receipt. They just charged my card $35.44. She was very rude and rather aggressive, so I let her know that I was driving over there right now, and showing her the receipt and getting my money back, which at this point, it's more about the principle that they took my money without providing anything whatsoever than the $35 I complexly forgot about for 10 days. I get there and speak to who I guess was the owner (or manager, whatever), and explain my situation, and he takes a long time, but gets me my money back. The lady on the phone was still very rude and dismissive at this point, and simply ignored me and never apologized for her unprofessional demeanor. So, and this was clearly my mistake, but I'm generally a nice, fair guy, and I was hungry and didn't feel like going to another place, so I ordered some food and gave them a second chance. I order a red curry (told me it was already hot and couldn't make it "Thai hot"... it was about a 2/5 so it when I ate it, maybe a 3/5 at most), drunken noodles, and some what I called eggrolls. We talked for a second and I said "egg rolls, Thai spring rolls, whatever you call them here... and can I get some spicy mustard with that please?" He tries to clarify again, I answer "crispy.... Crispy... the fried ones.... Crispy". He shakes his head. They give me my food and I go home and sit down to eat, and there are the Thai spring rolls wrapped in rice paper with a peanut sauce on the side (which the peanut sauce is the only thing that makes those type of spring rolls good imo, but I can't eat it because I have a mild allergy to), but they're defintiely not remotely crunch and I just don't like them. So I bring them back and just keep getting lip from the lady about how she can't give me money back because she didn't take my order and so she can't confirm what I ordered. Frankly, it doesn't matter what I ordered. I didn't get what I wanted and it's not my job to clarify any ambiguities on their menu, even though Technially I wasn't remotely incorrect in my ordering. The gentleman who took my order clearly wasn't a master of the English language, so the order was messed up. It really doesn't matte. Is this how they treat everyone whose order they screw up? Very ridiculous. She didn't finally give me back about 7.50, even though I'm pretty certain those spring rolls were more. Whatever, I took it and left

Yelp
Stopped by for a quick snack, and my party and I ordered the crab rangoon and Thai iced tea. To our surprise, the crab rangoons were absolutely delicious! The serving size was just right, and I loved dipping them in both the sweet and sour and mint sauces. I especially liked dipping them into the sweet and sour and mint dip. My favorite way to eat these is to split it in half, then dip each one in the different dips then eat them. If I find myself in this part of the city again, I'll definitely be back for another plate." The Thai Ice tea was delicious as well. The parking is limited, but we were able to find parking on the street nearby.

Yelp
We ordered seafood udon noodle dinners and steamed pork dumplings for takeout...delish! There was so much seafood I looked at the receipt to check what we paid cause they should be more. The broth is scrumptious and the noodles are a good texture. The dumplings were a bit doughy but maybe it was because they were steamed and it was takeout Second time having a meal from here and I haven't been disappointed. I recommend!

Yelp
I've probably ordered more from Wokano than anywhere else in my life. Granted, I live right around the corner, but I probably get it once a week and it's always a highlight of the week. The portions are pretty big and it's not pricy compared to most restaurants in the city, so you definitely get a bang for your buck. My favorite things to order are the drunken noodles or the Joam Bong, but everyone I know who's a regular here has their own favorites on their large menu. I definitely recommend it!

Yelp
I've been coming here on and off the past 3 years since I live close by. Food is always consistently very tasty, the owners are nice and accommodating, and the inside decor is charming, reminds me of old Chinese restaurants in LA my granny took me to when I was a kid. Sorta gives me an at home vibe. I recommend the sesame shrimp Very yummy
google avatar

Yelp
Amazing food! The service is quick and always friendly. The hot and spicy soup is a really great appetizer along with any of their entrees. The sesame chicken is delicious. The dining area is small and intimate with a calming atmosphere.

Yelp
10/10 -Priced amazingly for Chinese in Denver -Very hot, great quality food -Regulars sitting next to us and they RAVED over the beef. It was very tender. -All of the servers were women which I loved and they were very accommodating and kind I only wish I could take 7/11 away for better parking and less of a crowd outside but even the tavern next door is cute!

Cathy E.

Yelp
I've been coming to Wokano for over five years. It was my favorite Chinese place until now. All the food I recently ordered, egg roll, pad thai, sautéed green beans, were very bland.

Samantha A.

Yelp
I've been wanting to try Wokano for a long time and with the impending winter storm coming, I finally made a pickup order. The chicken in garlic sauce is amazing! Possibly one of the best I've ever had. The food was ready when I got there and the staff were very kind. I am looking forward to trying more from Wokano soon!
google avatar

Dana W.

Yelp
5 stars all day. An amazing find. There was probably 20-30 people that came in for take out while we were there if that says anything! There are 2 dedicated spaces out front for pickup. There is no alcohol here so your bill is guaranteed low if you dine in. Next door is 3 kilts sooooo you can make it a double evening if you're feeling frisky! Will 100% be back.

Yelp
We love Wokano. We order delivery here about once a month - it's fast, affordable, and the food is always so delicious even in delivery. Thank you Wokano!!

Brian P.

Yelp
I am sending this message in hopes it makes its way to the restaurant ownership that has contracted with you (Chow Now) to be their delivery provider for their locally owned restaurant. Wokano Bistro located at 1078 N Ogden St, Denver, CO. The delivery contractor for our order this evening was combative, rude and aggressive. He refused to follow our instructions for a no contact delivery and refused to deliver our order to our unit as was requested. Even after repeated requests and directions on how to perform the no contact delivery, he only became more aggressive and combative and forced us to interact with him against our clear directions. He continued to raise his voice and yell at us during the entire ordeal. This behavior and conduct confirm that we will not be ordering from this restaurant ever again.

Yelp
Great food been coming here for years I recommend the sesame shrimp, service was quick And friendly. Ambiance is hole in the wall but nothing wrong with it

Janette R.

Yelp
Very quaint place with amazing dishes! Good prices and you will leave feeling full! Service is great and the Wonton soup is to die for!

Yelp
Steadily phenomenal. Love the food, huge portions and great prices. I get to go every time and they're ready almost instantly.
google avatar

Michael N.

Yelp
Terrible food. Ordered general tso chicken. Tasted like ketchup, no heat, boxed sauce. Ordered takeout and they put an auto tip on without me having the chance to choose. Nasty
google avatar

Crypto S.

Yelp
How much of a tip does one have to leave to NOT have the driver abandon my food on the sidewalk? Apparently $10 isn't the right amount for a $50 meal. There's literally a phone number on the order if there's a problem.

Efren H.

Yelp
The lady running back and forth was very sweet and apologetic. The wait time was a little long but worth it! The food wasn't terrible, it sure it something to try if you're feeling Asian cuisine and in the area. Certainly a small and intimate environment perfect for those date nights. Support local! Will be coming back.
google avatar

Sara H.

Yelp
So so good! Hard to get through on the phone lines because they are so busy and seems to be a family enterprise. Really delicious. I'm eager to step out of my normal choices and try it all!

Eric M.

Yelp
No taste in the food This was a restaurant years ago we enjoyed Disappointing overall 3 entrees ***Didn't follow requests for spice level Very much underwhelming - mild minus was spice Will not go back Not the fault of the restaurant- Side note to the plaza owners/mgmt.... Give this corner some attention and cleaning!! Homeless laying on sidewalk outside and asking for money and filthy outside in parking lot with trash and discarded clothing etc..... Not a good visual 1st impression Denver can do better than this - the restaurant should complain to the city and police & Government!! Sooo.... much decline & change for the negative in this neighborhood - such a bummer!!

Yelp
Outside of Federal Blvd and Aurora, Asian food is not really pleasing or abundant. However, this little bistro is really refreshing in the Capital and next to a dingy dive bar and 7 Eleven. I generally really worry about all Asian fusion places because the quality can be all over the place. However, the food is really packs a lot of flavors from the Thai and Chinese dishes. Things to Note: 1) Service is lack luster 2) Lots of take-out orders 3) Comfortable and bistro like to eat-in 4) Portions are huge 5) Go for the drunken noodles, pad thais, curry fried rice 6) Pineapple ragoons are good 7) Pass on the lack luster Fresh Summer Rolls that are only filled with noodles. 8) Go for the hot and sour soups Overall, this is a solid place to eat-in or get take out.
google avatar

Nicholas F.

Yelp
Prices are so high here these days and it's not even gourmet. Used to really enjoy going here, but for the general cost you can visit a much nicer establishment when you're paying nearly $20 a meal/drink.
google avatar

Tinie D.

Yelp
The people who work here so nice! The food was AMAZING and the portion sizes were huge! Even after eating until I was super full, my to-go boxes were full to the brim. I had the green curry, and it may have been the best green curry I've ever had. I also had the wontons, which usually come with sweet and sour sauce but they used a basil sauce that changed my friggin life!!!! Ambiance 10/10. Décor 11/10. Food 10000/10.

John Paul K.

Yelp
Not the most friendly when you walk in or try to order in person or by phone. Also, their sweet and sour sauce is not that great.
google avatar

Daniel L.

Yelp
The Beef Pad Thai Was Bussin Bussin On Gawd On Gawd On Gawd No Cap. Fresh, Hot and Delicious. #IYKYK # #DYOR #PADTHAI

Yelp
We had food here during our trip to Denver. Totally recommend!! Yelp reviews indicated that food was great and so we decided to try this place out. No kidding!! The restaurant was small but since we went early in the afternoon, there was not that many people inside. Restaurant was clean and tables were set up neatly. Staff was friendly and came to check on us frequently. Our table ordered the Teriyake Chicken plate and Drunken Noodles. Both plates had a lot of flavor and food was hot enough to taste. Additionally we ordered some egg rolls and a hot and sour soup. Both tasted great! Will definitely return to this restaurant and recommend it!

Yelp
I've been dining and ordering takeout from here for nearly a decade. This place is a Cap Hill staple. Wokano serves good food and always with a friendly smile. Period. Highlights: - I always get the Thai pineapple fried rice, the tofu pad Thai, and the pineapple cheese wontons. The sesame chicken is pretty good too. Just get the pineapple cheese wontons - you won't be disappointed. - The portions are HUGE! Seriously. I do both takeout and dine-in here. They stuff their to-go containers to the brim. Takeout lasts a good 4-6 meals for me. I swear every single time I eat there, it's like I'm eating from a never ending dinner plate. Which isn't necessarily a bad thing I suppose. Parking can be a bit of a hassle, but well worth the effort!

Keanna C.

Yelp
Wokano Asian Bistro has the best Wonton Soup I have ever had. It takes like someone's grandmother is perfectly making each wonton. Their food is very inexpensive and delicious for the amount you get. It is the best food in the area. We order from Wokano almost weekly and have never been disappointed. If you get the chance, go to Wokano!!
google avatar

Adrian S.

Yelp
I ordered the Sweet & Sour Pork and it wasn't very good. There were diced pineapples in it and I ended up throwing it away. The sauce was weak also.
google avatar

Joshua G.

Yelp
The inside isn't anything special, but we absolutely loved the food and will definitely be back soon. There are a lot of crab Rangoons, I think 8, in an order which is really great - seems like most restaurants have 6. We got both a noodle dish and stir fry and both were great.
google avatar

Daisy V.

Yelp
Good food, we always get the Beef Pad Thai. It's fresh it's quick (if you pick up). We live down the street so this is our local spot.

B W.

Yelp
They have a tough time getting to-go orders right and are rude on the phone. And they STILL use styrofoam.
google avatar

Craig A.

Yelp
I get takeout from here a couple times a month. It's consistently good. They are fast. As of this writing indoor dining is not available but I look forward to its return in the future. Definitely recommend!

Sue H.

Yelp
Delicious food every time! Quick service and very polite staff. We love this place, never had a bad meal.
google avatar

Yush H.

Yelp
Got take out here. Awesome food. Sauce is flavorful and thick. Portions are nice and plentiful. The singapore rice noodles were cooked perfectly. The basil combination plate had scallops and they actually used jumbo scallops that were not cut into smaller pieces. Would highly recommend this reataurant.

Nolan S.

Yelp
This has become my go-to spot for quick Thai delivery. I always get the Thai Peanut Curry with Chicken. The portion is absolutely huge. I always get at least two meals out of it. And it's not the type of curry that is all liquid -- they include loads of chicken, broccoli, and carrots. And despite living a little over a mile away, the delivery always seems to arrive in 15-20 minutes. No complaints. Big fan of this place. Tasty, convenient, and great value.
google avatar

Rafael H.

Yelp
Take it from a huge food snob, this place is awesome and affordable. Nuff said, go eat.

Emma J.

Yelp
We ordered takeout from here for my birthday and I can't stop thinking about how good it was! Definitely recommend if you love Chinese food. We ordered the combination lo mein, chicken fried rice and crab cheese wontons... the wontons are to die for!
google avatar

Molly H.

Yelp
This has been one of my favorite Chinese spots for years. They have the best wonton soup with large, flavorful wontons and the broth is spiced perfectly. I love their Singapore noodles and their thai curries and noodle dishes are also really great!

Sarah S.

Yelp
Best drunken noodles in Denver. Fast service and long hours. My fav comfort food spot.
google avatar

Lotem S.

Yelp
Had the Kung Pao Delight and it was meh. Not much flavor. If you're used to Americanized versions of Asian food then you'll like it but the name of the restaurant says it all: Asian Bistro. They don't even bother specializing in a specific country's cuisine it's just all of Asia, which last I checked is a pretty big place with distinct regions. If you actually care about authentic food check another place out. If you're stoned and hungry this place will do the trick though.

Ray D.

Yelp
Always great food. Almost every time I'm in Denver I stop to get some delicious WorWonton soup plus other dishes are great
google avatar

Katti E.

Yelp
Holy omgoodness this place is sooo good and we haven't even gotten through our meal. We ordered fried dumplings, Vietnamese egg rolls, honey prawns and Kal Bi, egg drop soup and sweet and sour chicken. Very safe pick up protocols, too. Great, fresh food! Highly recommend!
google avatar

Heather T.

Yelp
Our nephew wanted crab cheese wantons as part of his lunch. Those aren't really in my wheelhouse of things I eat on a regular basis so I took to Yelp to find a spot. We found Wokano and it happened to be within ten minutes of where we were at. We arrived at 3 p.m.ish which is a weird between lunch and dinner time hour to eat. We got fast and friendly service. We ordered the aforementioned wantons, along with dumplings for him. I ordered the Korean seafood soup and the hubs went with crispy combo noodles. The portions were HUGE! We both got two meals out of our dishes. The flavors were good, basic flavors. My soup was spicy but didn't really have a complexity of flavor other than kimchee and seafood. There was quite a bit of seafood though for the price. The dishes neither blew us away nor disappointed us.
google avatar

Lawrence W.

Yelp
Always excellent food and service. We have had everything on the menu and there's not a single item we would not order again. Thanks for service during pandemic
google avatar

Nora J.

Yelp
Amazing place. We got the pad Thai and kung pao chicken. I used to live in Madison WI and wasn't sure another restaurant would stand up to Ha Long Bay on Willy street but.. damn Wokano is good! So glad they are in Cap Hill!
google avatar

Michelle F.

Yelp
Great neighborhood place. Very fast pickup orders and excellent customer service. It's Americanized Asian food, so if you are looking for an authentic specific cuisine you may want to go somewhere else. But if you want something quick, tasty, and cheap this is great. They also have great customer service - one time they forgot to put my sauce in the bag and they called back twice to let me know about it and offer to have it delivered to me.
