We ventured to Wolfie’s after our vegan BFF wanted something to eat and as meat eaters we were like “why not, let’s try it”. The concept, design, and vibes were creative and inviting.
The bar just opened on the other side and it was nothing short of classic LA hipster vibes, super cute. The hybrid brick and mortar store front with the food truck is truly unique.
On to the food. The menu is limited but well done. We ordered the Nashville “chicken” sandwich and the double cheese burger with an elote (pictures below). All were very very good!!
My two major critiques about this establishment are as follows.
1) The excessive use of single use containers and “compostable” utensils is appalling (they are compostable in industrial settings and aren’t always treated as such, therefore these will probably not actually biodegrade depending on how your municipality treats garbage). The only thing on our table that not was able to be thrown in the garbage was the glass water pitcher and the table itself. There is no reason why our entire dining set up needs or should be able to be thrown in the trash. It just seems like a rather large oversight for a modern restaurant. Likewise, our drinks and cups of water were also served in SMALL plastic cups. I felt so bad constantly asking wait staff for water, hence the pitcher.
2) Related to the first. Our drinks were swiftly delivered to our table and to our chagrin, we were served a child’s size drink. A whiskey sour was both priced like a trendy music festival and served in a laughably small plastic cup just to add insult to injury. Now, did that take away from the quality of the drink? Slightly, but the bartenders were incredibly skilled and the drink was very well crafted. It was just shocking to see such a tiny sized drink! If you want an actual adult sized beverage just order a beer, at least you could get it in a can or glass.
PS if you ask for any spicy chili powder/ rub they will serve you BLACK PEPPER! I almost spit out my drink when the waiter brought it to the table. I guess black pepper is “spicy” now, it made for a good laugh.
Overall: plating aside, the quality of food and flavor was good/ excellent
TL:DR excessive use of singe use plastic served with tiny drinks… food, flavor, and hospitality were fantastic!
