"Martin Fauster is no stranger to the restaurant scene, having proved his culinary pedigree during his years at Munich's Königshof. Now, in his Freiburg restaurant, he remains true to his principles. In a well-kept historical building in the pedestrian area (the terrace is delightful in summer), he cooks up classic cuisine made with excellent ingredients. The punchy sauces, jus and stocks are by no means the least of the taste sensations served here. The wine list is also impressive. Parkhaus Schlossberggarage across the street is a convenient parking option for motorists." - Michelin Inspector

We had high expectations of this Michelin-star restaurant, but left feeling very disappointed by our experience. It just wasn’t worth it. The food was quite good, but the wine pairing did the opposite of enhance the flavors of dishes. The selected wines were off-putting and detracted greatly from the meal, with the exception of an unusual, slightly sweet, almost vegetal red dessert wine at the end. In retrospect, I wish we had ordered a la carte and selected our own wine(s) for our meal. At 250€ per person for the 5-course menu and wine pairing, I give Wolfshöhle 2 stars for price value, at least for our visit. You really need to offer a better experience for this kind of money. On a side note, the restaurant was surprisingly empty, even for a Wednesday night, which put a bit of a damper on the atmosphere.

Great lunch on Saturday 27th May on a lovely street in the old town. We ordered a la carte and really enjoyed the food, wine and service! The hot potato with the menus at the start was funny too - "you speak English to them, no you, no you" 😅😅🤭 The langostino with the asparagus and the meat dishes were really really good. Total €290-

Wolfshohle is Michelin star dining in Freiburg. The cooking is superb. One of the starters involved raw, but warm salmon that was incredibly good. One picture shows a close up of fried sea bass in a spectacular bouillabaisse sauce with a tiny drop of mashed potato on it. The other photo is potato on top of a tiny perfectly cooked egg and a sauce. We ate here twice this trip. All the staff are friendly and the chef comes to say good bye as you leave. Highly recommended

We were happy to learn that Mr. Fauster had opened his own fine dining in Freiburg since we enjoyed on numerous occasions his dishes in the old "Königshof" in Munich. So, no questions asked, we went for dinner in Freiburg recently. The location was known to us and has not changed, which is a good thing. The dishes were excellent and the service was likewise. Only two things prevented me from giving 5 stars. 1. The Chef attended/served personally one, respectively two tables. The other tables/guests did not seem to be of interest to him. 2. We paid the not too small bill. When we left the premises there was no one to wish us a nice evening or even thank for the visit. It felt as if one left a McD. This is a pity but hopefully not the new standard.

Really great. I had the chefs choice 3 course meal and it was amazing. Beef tartare with mustard ice cream! I felt like an iron chef judge.

The reopening of the Wolfshoehle puts Freiburg back on the culinary map. Excellent food and service. The dining room is lovely but lacks AC which would have been a plus on the hot day (~100 degrees F) that I visited (book outside if you are used to climatized rooms). Overall a great experience!

We were somewhat skeptical about this restaurant, given that it is in Germany and given that the evening before we had dinner at L'Atelier du Peintre in Colmar, also a one toque Michelin restaurant, however, in France! We began with a very good pink sparkling wine and were served with a sophisticated set of amuse gueule, the outstanding morcel was the foie with cassis. The wine was Gorca Furmint from Slovenia, which took a little time to open, but after about 15 minutes was grandiose. The starters were crustaceans and veal's head, both very good; the main courses were lamb and pigeon, the latter was the best pigeon I've had so far in my life. All the courses were intelligently composed with parts of the food that constituted the focus of the dish. The pigeon's breasts had a crispy skin and absolutely tender, almost creamy pink fibres. The blood orange desert was refreshing, only the final sweet we could have done without, a small slice of typical German cake, not at the same level as the other dishes. By comparison to L'Atelier du Peintre, Wolfshöhle won handsomely for their food. The service was very friendly, the chef came out of the kitchen to say good bye in person and to ask what we thought (very briefly of course). As a guest, one appreciates the effort that the kitchen puts into every dish and one understands, why each plate costs as much as it does, by comparison in terms of the hours put into each, in the end quite reasonable. We paid about as much here as at the Colmar restaurant, but left with a much more profound and lasting memory. Worth returning to.

Yelp
We went there for lunch but left a bit disappointed. The restaurant is very nice and the menu has some very interesting dishes but the execution seemed to lack a bit the aspiration. The highlight was the starter, a lobster bisque with an amazing sauce, delicious. Unfortunately our meat in the main course was a bit chewy and the potato rösti were just normal. For dessert was a piece of cake with some fruits that was ok at best. Lunch is 35 Eur for 3 courses which certainly is a good price, but from this type of restaurant I would expect more.

Yelp
My wife and I were treated by me coworkers for dinner here as a wedding gift. Which, to be fair, means two things: 1. I have no idea of bill 2. What we ordered was probably not what I would have ordered myself. But, to put it into perspective, for what it was supposed to be (i.e. treat yourself to something you would not do otherwise), it was the perfect location. The restaurant is in the old part of town and is tucked away in a nice quite alley in a very beautiful house. Upon entering, the inside, was modern, a lot of wood and modern art, not too much, just the right amount of art was displayed and we were surprised how big the restaurant actually is. Whenever we are in Germany, my wife tries not to identified as an American right away, so we were given two German menus. When they realised that she does not speak German, they even had an English menu and proceeded to explain everything in English from there on and it lightened everyone's mood right away (the waiters and the owner's wife, the head of staff, got to practice some of their English and we had a good time). They are a great and friendly team. We ordered the 7 course taster menu with wine pairing. What can I say, I surely do not remember every single dish and wine, but rarely have I eaten so much extraordinary and delicious food. Every dish had a little twist, a little nuance that was different to what you would expect. Every wine, all of them from the region, was paired perfectly. I cannot remember when 4.5 hours passed by so quickly and my wife and I were still flashed by this experience days after it happened. All in all, if you want to treat yourself, your partner or anyone else, you will not go wrong with Wolfshöhle!
