9 Summer Sandwiches That Are Smaller, Less Expensive, and Worth It | Eater NY

"This $19 lunch-only sandwich is built on dense, wobbly bean-curd skin (aka yuba) slathered with a pungent “nc” sauce of vegan mayo with Dijon and black pepper and then stuffed with cucumber pickles; New Creation is the sandwich name that stuck since 2015, says owner Brooks Headley, and it’s meant for those who like to chew and chew — different from the yuba verde dinner sandwich." - Robert Sietsema

Our food was ready in under 20 minutes and everything was fresh and hot. I love the concept of being able to order from multiple restaurants and dine in at just one place. I got a bowl from lime salt and fries from Fred’s.

Google
Place is new and clean. Music is pleasant. Has water dispenser and cups for use. Have seating with large windows. Feels like outside but insulated from the elements (cold rain and snow). Nice please to eat n

Google
amazing!!!! surprised how good it was since it had some many restaurants, tried 3 different restaurants and all came out great. pick up was very easy and order took avg 15 mins or less. will be back and recommend all my friends to try this place great place to go if everyone if craving not the same food type

Google
I was really impressed by this novel concept.in food pickup and delivery: so many different and high-quality restaurants to order from each convenient Wonder locale. The food from the restaurant I chose was really delicious and a very good portion size. Convenient and pleasant dine-in facilities if you want to stay and have your meal on Wonder premises instead of bringing it home. Will definitely be ordering from Wonder again!

Google
10s all across the board, absolutely loved the food and the people. Would recommend to anyone!! Shoutout to the black woman with the gold grill, love her👑

Google
Wonder is an amazing addition to the East Village area in Manhattan. The options offered are wonderful and unique, and the food is outstanding. They offer portion sizes that align with the ticket price, which is rare in Manhattan, and the quality is top tier. I would highly recommend this service!

Google
So many food choices! It's takeout, delivery or eat in at a few tables. I found it to be very clean. The order clerk was friendly and polite. We had Burger Baby, Tejas and Fred's Meats. The mushroom/beef cheese steak was amazing🤤. My husband had the pressed burger. Delicious! And crispy thick fries. The best part of the experience is you can order from many restaurants in one order. Cooper union is down the street so it's great for study breaks!

My husband was given a coupon for two $ 20 meals at Wonder East Village. I created an account for him since he has never used it. The coupon code was not working. Upon arrival at the store I asked for help, so the staff member handed me a 35% off flyer. I told him twice that we have a flyer which was handed to my husband today . He offered a phone number. During the call, we were requested to use his phone, which we did. After 30 minutes, the only solution was to pay and that the charge was going to be cancelled. I don’t find this transparent. My husband has no patience for this type of tricks so he left without ordering anything. I believe that if you want to attract new customers, you have to make it easy. I’m not coming back because of my experience and the reviews I’m reading. UPDATE: They don’t want to respect what originally was told. Britney and some other agents were rude. The last agent didn’t want to provide her name. I’m not returning!!

Yelp
Super quick experience. There's a lot to choose from, but once I ordered it took just a few minutes to get my order. It's a nice quick spot with very little seating. It's just pick up and go type of place. I got the two protein poke bowl with a side of shishito peppers. The bowl itself was hefty because they had a lot of rice and ginger and edamame. I wish they put a both more of the protein. The salmon was mixed with a sauce that was pretty spicy. The tuna wasn't mixed with anything. Fish was fresh but it was lacking marinade. There was also a bone in my fish. The peppers were fine. It was Smoky and glazed with some teriyaki sauce.

Yelp
First time order from Wonder. It's a great idea to combine some far away restaurants to the neighborhood near me. I ordered Kin House on the app and it showed the process so I knew when it was ready. The food was on the shelf when I arrived. Sweet and sour shrimp was really sweet 1/5, not liking it at all. Chicken and broccoli was good 4/5, standard taste. Spare Ribs was ok 3/5, my mom seemed to like it tho. Overall ok taste, if I order from Wonder, probably will try some other restaurants.

Yelp
Few things are this quick, this easy, and this good. Wonder is how did I get by this long until now? This place was near a community meeting I attended. It finished around 9pm, so something quick and easy would do the trick. A spanking new location in East Village, I placed my order on a tablet in the store and just minutes later, it was ready. I took mine to go. This minimalist decor had tables and seating for couples and singles. I had the tortiglioni vodka. Cooked al dente and the sauce with a bit of cheese and a hint of spice was totally delicious.

Yelp
Ordered from Hanu Poke for pick-up and did the build your bowl option with half tuna and half salmon. Fish was fresh and portion was big. I enjoyed the poke rice which wasn't overly sticky and had the right amount of vinegar. The various toppings were solid and added a crunchy texture to the overall meal. I've ordered at this Wonder location several times for Hanu Poke and noticed sometimes the portions are inconsistent and one time they gave me someone else's order so double check if you can. Otherwise, convenient place for lunch and pick-up is fast.

Yelp
I've ordered salads and poke bowls from Wonder, and have had mixed experiences. From the four times I've been, they've gotten my order slightly wrong three times. Luckily, I've noticed each time and they've been able to add the mixing ingredient. The food is decent, but nothing great. I will say the quality of the poke tuna and salmon was not very good, enough so that I ended up picking it all out and not eating it. The next time I ordered a poke bowl, I made sure to avoid the fish and just get tofu. The tofu poke bowl was good and probably the best thing I've tried from Wonder.

Yelp
A good concept, ordering from multiple restaurants at once for pickup. I wish the ordering could be laid out a little better with options to customize a little hard to maneuver. I did enjoy that the nutrition information changed with edits. The food did seem to veer towards the more expensive side. I ordered a make your own poke salad and the Brussel sprouts from maydan. The poke salad was fresh but the sauce was only put on the protein - as stated on the receipt so I had to add extra sauce. And even though I was in the store for pickup immediately when it was ready the Brussel sprouts weren't super warm and lacked crispiness by the time I made the short walk home. I also wish they gave chopsticks with the poke bowl! Good overall but I wish the Brussel sprouts items were more fresh and both items needed a little more sauce!

Yelp
Chicken sandwich was very good from Marcus Samuelson, delivery was very quick but delivery person did not ring bell

Yelp
Such an unusual concept! It's a "Food Hall" but all the vendors are out of site in the kitchen. You order from 20 different eateries/menus via the automated kiosks or from your phone app or via the browser on your computer, and you pick up the food from a single counter helmed by a friendly soul, (A+ Service!!!). The food when ready is presented well packaged with care and clearly labeled. There is the option to sit down at a few tables in the narrow space, and there is also a cushioned bench, a nook in the wall across facing the tables. A gender neutral restroom rounds out the narrow space. Now the food itself is a mixed bag with some dishes satisfying with others falling short of the mark. Barrio Cafe's Queso Fundido for $9 tasted too heavily of mushroom and the chorizo could not be tasted. You are better off getting the Tejas Barbecue Queso & Chips for $7 that had a more balanced and developed flavor. Note that the tortilla chips you get are the same from both menus and are good quality. Mr D's Classic Fried Chicken 4 piece bucket for $12.95 was crispy and juicy, but the 2 Biscuits for $4.95 are too small and dense with not enough flavor, and I did not like the taste of the apple butter. Magnolia Bakery's Banana Pudding 1 Pint for $9.45 was DELICIOUS with a lovely smooth texture and cakey wafer cookies. The Street bird by Marcus Samuelsson Chicken Tenders were TERRIBLE - no flavor, dry, burned in spots. I had ordered the Combo for $14.45 that came with 3 small chicken tenders, hot maple chile sauce - good flavor, coleslaw, and a drink. The Harney & Sons Organic Lemonade was really refreshing! The Burger Baby Classic Burger patty was unexceptional but the ingredients tasted fresh so it was decent and not very expensive at $6.95. Their classic fries at $4.95 were well cooked, thick and crispy; I really enjoyed that. I look forward to trying out more items from all the menus.

Yelp
You'll understand my enthusiasm once you eat here. You can taste the quality and freshness in every bite. The staff shows preference at times but delivers without fail. The culinary skill here is apparent. If circumstances allowed, I'd come here weekly!

Yelp
We ordered the spicy chicken sandwich combo from Streetbird and the sweet potato and feta salad from Yasas. The second choice was because they were out of everything else from Yasas and the Rani Bowl from Royal Greens. The chicken sandwich was good, but the fries that came with were too salty. The salad I got from Yasas was healthy but not what I wanted: Next time O will order separately from Sweetgreen as I was expecting fireworks from my last experience.

Yelp
Ordered a few things from Streetbird from the Wonder food court and was instantly sick. The cornbread was burned all the way as per my photos. The chicken tenders not only were burned but tasted like someone's freezer. The waffle was a 4x4 square that I could have bought from the supermarket with better quality. Either the pickles or the butter went terribly bad. I could taste the expiration date. My sister instantly vomited, the food didn't make it down.

Yelp
WONDER was a great concept, offering a number of varied, well known dishes by acclaimed chefs and restaurateurs. Initially, this concept worked seemlessly , the food was prepared very well, food safety was a priority as was quality assurance and control Unfortunately, after a brief "honeymoon Period" of excellent food, a precipitous decline started, including a number of undercooked or almost raw poultry and meat dishes, inedible steak, meat burnt to a cinder, fish inundated with gross amounts of inedible condiments, etc. In short, undercooked or raw poultry can potentially result in serious infections or worse, and food that is inedible is grossly unacceptable Although repeated reporting of these ongoing incidents on phone over a period of months to Wonder's Representatives would lead one to believe that effective resolutions would be initiated to remedy these egregious failures, and result in a positive and safe dining experience, this has not been the case. As mentioned by one WONDER Representative, WONDER is currently engaging in expanding their virtual food halls, clearly intimating that there is a gross lack of prioritization on food safety and appropriate preparation of dishes. Based on the extremely poor ratings on YELP regarding a number of WONDER's in New York City, raises serious questions regarding their concern for the health and well being of their clients; their failure to ensure appropriate food safety protocols and standardized food preparation; and what appears to be an egregious lack of oversight, monitoring, and supervision of their food preparation personnel, resulting in the precipitate decline of this virtual food hall concept. Absolutely pathetic.

Yelp
I love the convenience if ordering from many places. My main dish from one place sides from another and dessert from from a third. And the food is delicious every time I have ordered Delivery is fast also. I recommend wonder to everyone.

Eric W.

Yelp
Food court gourmet ordering app. Food is from different restaurants I've actually had before. Cheese steak was solid and wings are huge. Price is a touch higher than I would normally want to pay for a meal. Pastrami was a miss though. Don't get that. Dry.

Yelp
Amazing service and food!! Definitely recommend Royal Greens! Also there are so many selections and vegetarian friendly options!

Alex G.

Yelp
Ordered a roast chicken, greek rice bowl, carrot soufflé, and muhammara dip. Roast chicken was very flavorful and perfectly cooked. Really enjoyed it! Greek bowl was pretty comparable to Cava. Carrot soufflé had that classic soufflé texture and some delicious charred bits but I personally would have something to make the texture more varied like a candied walnut topping or something. Muhammara was good but certainly not the best I've had. Texture was off and was a little acidic for my taste. Still fun to be able to order one of my favorite dips alongside other pretty unrelated items! Delivery was on time. I've ordered at other locations and it's been appallingly fast, so I almost expected faster, but can't complain about on time delivery! Everything is packaged nicely, especially for delivery food! #WonderEmployee

Yelp
Food was inedible. Do not eat here. The positive reviews are fake and employees of Wonder with conflict of interest.

Yelp
A takeout and delivery service that combines several kitchens/menus. There is an eat-in area, but the place is small and not really meant for sit down dining. Menu is quite varied so you can mix Mexican with Indian with Italian with Mediterranean with Bobby Flay steaks if you want to. Nice idea. The price is about average and, frankly, the food I've tried is pretty average also- but the variety option makes up for it. Staff at the East Village location is very nice - friendly and attentive. Have only done takeout so do not know how good the delivery option works.

Michelle B.

Yelp
Food tasted good but the portions have to be better for the price. Have to pay almost $7 for onion rings and I only get 5??? That's more than $1 per onion ring, you have to be kidding me.

Yelp
Super quick yummy and convenient. It's great to have different options of food around this area

Robin D.

Yelp
I'm obsessed with this place! My favorite things are the gluten free burger, creamed spinach, carrot souffle, and the kale salad with bleu cheese and apples. Perfect when you can't decide what to order. I wish the to go/delivery bags were less comically giant.

Geri L.

Yelp
They did it again! New spot in West Village near Copper Union. We ordered from 3 restaurants in Wonder for lunch. Burger Baby, Tejas and Fred's Meats . The spot is beautiful, only thing is hard to find parking on a Sunday but most customers will be from the neighborhood and walking in. Staff was helpful and courteous, space was clean and fresh.

Yelp
Great variety of cuisines to choose from whether you'd prefer to be health conscious or indulge. Tasty food at an approachable price point.

Yelp
Nice options. Can order for multiple people with different tastes. Fees are reasonable.

Clare T.

Yelp
The food was really expensive and really bad. I ordered from Chai Pani and it tasted like airplane food. The only reason I ordered was because I got a $15 discount but I still paid 5 extra dollars. So $20 for the aloo tikki chaat and rice. I had low expectations because I know it's a ghost kitchen but I ended up just eating the rice because the chaat made me feel nauseous. I hate that ghost kitchens are replacing actually good food. Definitely don't order. Everyone else at my office was underwhelmed with there order and we all got very different things

Sarah L.

Yelp
Amazing food and amazing service! I really loved my meal and recommend wonder! It was really convenient

Yelp
wonderful food! They have so many options, it's truly delicious. Very clean place if you're eating in and quick if it is for take out

Michael M.

Yelp
The food is amazing, you gotta try the Tejas BBQ or Fred's. They also have Bobby Flay Steak. Service was quick and easy.

Yelp
my first and last order from this store but the food was so cold and include lots of spices
