"This is the second restaurant closure for Carr and Simpkins in the past two months. The pair closed their Memorial Drive restaurant Wonderkid in late November at Atlanta Dairies. Wonderkid opened in December 2019, just three months prior to the start of the pandemic." - Beth McKibben

"Fancy cocktails. Strong coffee. Diner classics. That’s how Wonderkid is described on its website. The Memorial Drive diner collaboration between the King of Pops crew and Big Citizen restaurant group’s Darren Carr and Eric Simpkins (Bon Ton, The Lawrence, Miracle Atlanta) officially opens at Atlanta Dairies on Saturday, December 21. Ahead of Saturday’s opening, the public is welcome to participate in Wonderkid’s final set of “staff training,” which begins at 5 p.m. on Thursday and Friday. For those who grew up eating regularly at classic diners, Wonderkid’s layout should be quite familiar — from the row of big red booths along the windows to the step-up counter lined with olive green bar seats against subway tiles overlooking the galley kitchen. There’s also a small lounge area before entering the main portion of restaurant and a dining room just beyond the counter and booths." - Beth McKibben

This is a super cool little spot. The ambiance is dope and the food is cool. Drinks are really good. I liked the wings, they were flavorful and cooked well. Not breaded, but still good. Fries were ordinary. Forgot what drink i ordered but it was bourbon based and delicious.

Stopped in for dinner before the concert we were going to, and had dinner. We both ordered the Wonder Burger and I have to say that I was pleasantly surprised. The temperature was perfect, and just the overall freshness of the vegetables in the meat was very nice. It's a very clean restaurant and the service was pretty good. I am actually shocked that the ratings aren't higher. Not only was the service phenomenal, but the food/drinks were insane! The hubs and I were having a casual date day at Three Taverns, and we noticed Wonderkid. We love eating, so curiosity led us inside. Let me tell you, their sandwiches? They are crazy good, and not to mention, GIGANTIC. We ordered several rounds of drinks, a poke bowl, meatloaf sandwhich and fried chicken sandwhich. That chicken was fried perfectly, and the meatloaf was so delicious. I'm still thinking about the food and drinks!! Definitely a must try restaurant - I can't wait to go back!

Fool me once shame on you, fool me twice, shame on me. We’ve been to Wonderkid twice. The first time for dinner and the second for brunch. Both times we were told that multiple menu items were unavailable. I’ve never experienced anything like this before. I get that restaurants run out of ingredients from time to time but both times, there were multiple menu items that they were “out of”. We also have friends who have had the same experience. And if you read other reviews, you’ll find similar experiences there too. For that reason, we will probably not be back however the food that was available, that we did try, was decent. Overall, it’s a wonder they’re still open considering they’re always out of so many menu items. I guess if you’re lucky to order what you want, then you’ll enjoy your time. Otherwise, you’ll start off your dinning experience with some, or a lot of disappointment. *Food* We were very limited on what we could try and were unable to get menu items that we originally wanted. We had the following, - For dinner, we had burgers and fries. There were other menu items we wanted to try but could not. The burgers and fries were good. - For brunch, I was looking forward to trying the Eggs Benedict (it’s my favorite breakfast item to try at any restaurant) but the server said the prep cook arrived late so the wait for Eggs Benedict was 1-2 hours. In what universe does it take 1-2 hours to make an Eggs Benedict. We were also told that the empanadas, heirloom tomatoes, and the chicken sausage for the English Breakfast were all unavailable. We ordered the English Breakfast and the Late Morning Sandwich. Both were a very large amount of food and both were actually quite good. *Drinks* For dinner we tried a couple of their signature drinks which were both good. For brunch, we were told that “they could basically make any of the drinks but were out of a couple ingredients so some drinks would be missing an ingredient or two”. We didn’t order drinks for brunch. *Service* Both times our servers were friendly however for brunch, the server told me that a side was included with the Late Morning Sandwich. My choice of sides were fries, salad or chips but he highly recommended the fries. Well of course he does… there’s a 50 cent up charge for fries which he didn’t tell me about. Not a big deal but something that diners should be made aware. *Atmosphere* The atmosphere is actually quite good. It has a retro diner vide. I just wish the experience of dining lived up to the same standard. For dinner, they were at full capacity. For brunch, it was at maybe 50% capacity at 11:30am - peak brunch time. *Value* Minus the secrete up charge, and not getting to order anything that we originally wanted, the value is fine. Doesn’t seem overpriced…

Love this local spot. beautiful atmosphere, great pandemic procedures! Cocktail and food menu were unique. Food was fresh as ever and service was FAST! Already have plans to come back this weekend with friends, can’t wait. Love that they have brunch too.

Really good food and a neat retro settings. The drinks were traditional, but with delicious updates. Seating was comfortable and easy to access bathrooms. Great way to start a concert night with the nearby venue. The ramps connecting the levels made exploring easy. Looking forward to going back.

Popped in the first night they opened and everything was amazing! I always expect the restaurant to be working out kinks for the first few shifts but they had everything under control! We had the meatloaf sandwich and turkey sandwich. Both were large and tasty. The fries were the perfect amount of crispy and salty. And though the King of Pops soft serve was the perfect ending to our meal, next time I will have to try one of the many pies they make fresh!

Wow! What a fantastic brunch menu. Parking was easy. We were seated quickly (which is a big deal for brunch on Sunday) Service was great. Everything we had was excellent and came out hot. The Fench toast is amazing. Whoever got the idea to combine cinnamon toast crunch with fresh whip cream is a genius! The brisket hash was awesome too.
