Woni Patisserie - Review - Bloomsbury - London - The Infatuation

"Close to Holborn station, Woni Patisserie is an in-and-out dessert shop with beautiful choux buns that have saved us in many a ‘emergency birthday cake’ situation. Everything in the pristine glass cabinets at this Japanese-inspired spot is tempting—from fluffy strawberry shortcake to jiggly Basque cheesecakes—but if you’re only getting one thing, make it the matcha choux bun. The craquelin is satisfyingly craggly, crunchy, and sweet, and the matcha filling is velvety smooth. We’ve found the matcha drinks to be a little weak though, so skip those. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Pause Unmute Food Rundown Basque Cheesecake Not quite as custardy a centre as we’d like, but this is still a pleasant cheesecake. The caremalised, sweet top is especially good. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Strawberry Cake A fluffy chiffon cake with a satisfying, pillowy texture, but the overwhelming flavour is of cream. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch Matcha Choux The matcha cream in this proud, puffed-up choux bun is perfectly balanced—it’s got just a hint of bitterness which balances out the sweet pastry. photo credit: Aleksandra Boruch" - Sinéad Cranna

London’s New Restaurant Openings

"Woni Patisserie is an Asian-inspired pastry shop close to Holborn station. Their social media-friendly creations all look good enough to post, but it’s the ‘Matcha Explosion Cream Puff’ we’re most excited about. That, and a Lotus Biscoff choux that has Thursday 11am slump written all over it." - team infatuation

Delicious taro choux. Real taro meat inside and not too sweet. It looks like the owner has been putting a lot of efforts in the boutique. I will come back and get a birthday cake there!

I walked in at 3pm requesting a whole birthday cake at very short notice. The owner said that she could turn this around within the hour. The strawberry cake was deliciously light and enjoyed very much by everyone. She even piped a message on top. I also bought a chocolate hazelnut choux bun which was delicious too. I will be back! Thank you!

Location & Accessibility: The pop-up is conveniently located at 49 Red Lion Street in Camden, about 15 minutes from Covent Garden. While easy to find, the area does get quite crowded on weekends. Note there's no proper seating - it's strictly takeaway. What We Tried: - Hazelnut Puff: The pastry had good texture but the filling was richer than expected - Matcha Basque: Smooth consistency though the matcha flavor could be more pronounced - Strawberry Puff: The most balanced option with fresh fruit cutting through the sweetness The Positives: + Well-executed pastry textures across all items + Interesting flavor combinations available + Convenient for those already exploring Camden The Negatives: - Some items still lean sweet despite "less sweet" claims - Portion sizes feel small relative to price point - Limited availability of certain popular items Final Thoughts: This pop-up offers competent French-style pastries that make for a nice treat while exploring Camden. However, the experience doesn't quite live up to the hype for those making a special trip. The strawberry puff stands out as the most successful creation.

The Choux are super light and crisp. The fillings are deliciously flavoursome, creamy and not too sweet - which is perfect. I got the Earl Grey and Lemon, Matcha and Tiramisu Choux. All were so tasty. The Matcha basque cheesecake was rich in taste, yet not too heavy. Highly recommend this patisserie.

Tried matcha choux pastry here and it exceeded my expectations. Right balance of flavour and the cream was so tasty and fresh. (Right level of sweetness)

The mango choux pastry was incredible! All the flavours we tried (banoffee and lemon meringue) were really good but the mango one was especially good. The cream is very fluffy and soft, and the pastry is fresh and perfectly baked. Highly recommend.

Very friendly staff but the matcha rose latte tasted only like milk. They are either using weak matcha or very little matcha. The 18yr olds at blank st coffee make the matcha lattes 100x better. You can see in the picture, it's very white, not very green. Wouldn't go back. Will stick to Jenki, blank st coffee and Tsujiri.

The matcha basque cheesecake was amazing. Not too sweet which is great. I was sick of sweet too-much-sugary pastries and now I know where to get my treat. The lady at the counter was really nice too.
