Much-Awaited Metropolitan Variety Store and Restaurant Is Now Open - Eater Detroit

"The neighborhood bar at 5169 Trumbull was first opened by developer Jim Geary in 2008. In 2018, it transitioned to new management, under the watch of local restaurant owners, Yanni Dionisopoulos and Spiro Vamvakas. After closing during the pandemic, Woodbridge Pub reopened in June 2020. However, now, Woodbridge Pub is relaunching again with a new menu and owners. It was unclear at the time of publishing who the new owners of Woodbridge are." - Emma Orlow

So your girl's traveling again and this time I'm in Detroit, Michigan, I come to visit some family and on Sunday we came here for the live bands and good atmosphere plus which is a bonus. One of my cousins play saxophone and enjoys and participates in the live bands.🎷 That day, I was so glad we got there in time to get the last table, which was right up front in front of the band.😊 the live band sounded amazing and the drummer's wife song, and she was great Simone. They also had a session where people could get up if they played the instrument or could play the instruments that were there. They gave them a chance to play and jam out. Also, they gave people chances to sing if they wanted to. Boy, did they😄 Ok so let's get to the food and drinks. The food was knock it out the park good.😋 I ordered some artichoke and spinach dip, and one of my cousins ordered steak bites. My other cousin she ordered the chicken Alfredo. Another one of my cousins ordered the Bang bang shrimp(those were really good). My cousin's son ordered a burger and fries and my cousin who played the saxophone. He ordered a fish po boy. As far as the drinks go, the one that had the steak bites, she ordered a long island. I ordered an adult Caprice Sun with absolute vodka. My cousin who played the saxophone ordered a blue moon. The place was packed like sardines but a very fun and enjoyable crowd. That I could tell likes to have a lot of fun. By the time we left and I walked outside. I couldn't hear anything, and I felt like everybody was talking very loudly. Lol, We had a blast. So thank you, woodbridge pub, for making us feel welcome😉 By the way, if it's your first time there, please get there early and if you're sitting at a big table, make sure you tell the owner that you have people coming. Because he told my cousin we had 5 minutes before we had to move. The rest of our family was parking so they got there on time. He does not hold tables.🫡

Went Sunday night for the live music. OMG, from the music to the food, and the drinks. Everything was perfect! (Not pictured) The bang bang shrimp are freaking delicious! 🤤🤤 I'll definitely be back!

It's a good lspot, but I went for the House Music and FOOD! Perfect spot for that. Diverse crowd, great vibes

Sunday Funday 🎉 I was just introduced to WP this summer 2025. The fish and chip 🥰 and others items I’ve nibbled from my friend’s plate were yummy. The Sunday live music 🙌🏽. Drinks are also perfect. Three visits already- in 2 months.

Google
🔥🔥 Everything from the food to the live band was AMAZING. I can definitely understand why this place draws in a large crowd. This is a grown and sexy spot for sure. Cute for a date night.

Nice bar and grill. Food and cocktails are all delicious....and made to perfection.

Google
Fifty dollars for a beer, salad and appetizer was just the highlight of my experience. The salad had brown lettuce, the only thing good about it was the shrimp. The spinach artichoke appetizer was the worst I’ve ever tasted and that’s putting it lightly - I couldn’t even eat it and no I did not ask for a refund - I just pushed it to the side and took the loss - the only thing good about the experience was the beer and the service beyond that I would never eat here again!!! Overpriced and disgusting food sums it up for me.

Google
Awesome food! Unexpectedly unique dishes. Great menu, with delicious choices; vegan and vegetarian dishes too; something for everyone’s taste. Great atmosphere; friendly staff; fair prices. And of course plenty of draft beers, bottles and cans, and bar drinks! Live music several nights a week. Indoor and outdoor seating; eclectic and low key; trendy but not overly.

Yelp
I love this little place. It has all the charm of a dive bar but a better ambiance. The bar/restaurant is clean. The menu is surprisingly unique for a place of this nature. I ventured here specifically for the vegan birria tacos. To my surprise they had several vegan items on the menu. So, my dining partner and I were so excited to spend an evening here. We shared the vegan birria quesadillas, vegan grilled cheese and vegan tomato soup. We also tried the truffle fries. Everything was fresh, well crafted and we thoroughly enjoyed it. Parking is relatively easy though they don't have a parking lot, you must park on the street. But, we've been back a few times and didn't struggle to find a spot on the street. They also have live music in some evenings which tops off a relaxed night out. The crowd and staff are diverse and service is great.

Yelp
So we totally found this place by accident, but it is a gem! It was PACKED on a Sunday night like you'd expect on a Friday. The live music was a nice touch and they had a really great jazz line up. (The music is a bit on the louder side, so if that is something that bothers you take note) The liquor selection is impressive, and they also feature CBD infused sparkling waters. The staff/manager was on top of greeting guest, and getting items out quickly. Cleaning tables promptly and just keeping the place tidy! Everything that came out of the kitchen smelled incredible! Cant wait to go back.

Yelp
What a great find. Was at a basketball game at the Wayne State field house and was craving a cold beer and a burger... found this neighborhood gem steps away. Amazing gourmet bar food. The service was great, the decor was super cool, the bar was packed, atmosphere was perfect, and the drinks were ice cold. Couldn't have asked for more. I would definitely go back again!!!

Yelp
Dear fellow Yelp community, I would like to take a moment to share my recent experience at Woodbridge Pub, a place that has generally been known for its warm ambiance and friendly staff. However, I feel compelled to address a regrettable incident that occurred during my visit last night, which left me disheartened and disappointed. While the overall atmosphere at Woodbridge Pub remains pleasant, I unfortunately encountered a bartender who engaged in what I perceived as racist rhetoric, causing discomfort and concern. It is essential to note that this incident involved an individual staff member and not the establishment as a whole. Despite this unfortunate encounter, I firmly believe in providing balanced feedback, as it is evident that Woodbridge Pub takes pride in fostering a welcoming environment for its patrons. The venue itself exudes charm and offers a diverse menu that caters to a variety of tastes. The other members of the staff were courteous and attentive throughout my visit, reaffirming the positive aspects that have drawn patrons to this establishment.

Yelp
Great drinks and sandwiches both were awesome!! Make sure to get the fancy fries as one of your choices we had the truffle with parmesan. Excited to try the Saturday or Sunday brunch!!

Yelp
Server said to sit down anywhere. We sat down. We were ignored for 30 minutes by the inept server. We walked out. Girl had like seven tables and couldn't figure it out...

Yelp
Great brunch spot! The live DJ played all the best Afrobeats songs (should've asked for the playlist). I had the chicken and waffles and my friend had the birria hash. The chicken was SEASONED and fried hard. Whose black uncle is back there cooking?! And the orange glaze on the chicken was the perfect balance of sweetness/acidity. I'll be trying the rest of the brunch items and ordering the chicken and waffles again...& again.

Yelp
The goal of our evening was for him to take me to as many places I haven't been in one night! He did a fantastic job at making the best of the night despite the bitter cold temps. Woodbridge was on his list so we stopped in for a beer. He got a PBR and I chose a dirty blonde. Can't go wrong with either! I enjoyed the atmosphere. It was warm and inviting. There was a lot to see. Until, of course, I got locked in the bathroom. I mean leave it to me. But clearly this happens all the time. I don't typically bring my phone in with me. But thankfully this time I grabbed it. I had to call my date to help me! The bartender came and got me out. So embarrassing. Ha. But there is always something fun to laugh about. We looked over the menu but nothing really piqued our interest so we chose to move on. I for one won't ever forget this place haha!

Yelp
The reason this is five stars is that it does what it intends to do. It has a neighborhood, college vibe. Good service. Good food. We go often and are always happy we did.

Yianni L.

Yelp
Some of the best food in the city. Great service all around, and live shows 4-5 times a week! 5+

Yelp
I didn't use to like this place but I gave it a second chance this summer. I can't believe how much good gluten free food they have. It's a great around the corner restaurant/bar. I wish the bartenders could make better mixed drinks though.

Yelp
The band was excellent! They played all requests from any genre. The caramelized fennel and artichoke dip was amazing. The staff was friendly. It was a really great vibe. The crowd was interactive.

Yelp
I love Woodbridge! Excellent place to stop for lunch or drinks or both! Great people, nice vibe! Located in the Woodbridge district of Detroit on the historic Trumbull across from the Wayne State Football Stadium!
google avatar

Yelp
Great service with decent food! Loved stopping in here before and after the game and we will for sure do it again! The venue is small and it makes for a great vibe. They have traditional booths, tables and a bar, but they also have bar tops and comfy chairs. A great touch to this neat spot! Note - the spinach dip is not your traditional dip. It's good, just different! * did not try the iced tea
google avatar

Yelp
Saturday brunch menu is quaint but thorough as it offers up a nice variety of savory and sweet. I opted for the chicken + waffle entree. Really big tenders were breaded perfectly to leave the chicken still juicy inside. Waffle was decent. The waffle was "gourmet" topped with some sort of blueberry sauce, but I would have been plenty satisfied with butter and syrup. Next time I'll skip the gourmet and keep it classic. But maybe you'll like the blueberry sauce--see what you think! Prices were fair and service was great. If ever I'm in this part of the D again I'd go back!

Yelp
Disturbing Trans...ition Has Dylan Mulvaney been brought in to consult on staffing and clientele? We discovered this place about a year ago and were excited about it because it's not far from home - just below West Grand - has good natural light and a great pub atmosphere and chatty and interesting MALE bartenders and customers . Often we were surprised at the sophistication of topics covered, and the drinks were generously poured and cheap. Recently though things have changed: all the men have been purged. No male bartenders and no male customers. Indeed, Friday afternoon, I thought I had walked into a lesbian bar. The customers were all women and so was the staff. Is this place going the same route as Hammer and Nail in Midtown which was a great Gentleman's bar until Whitmer trashed it during Covid and then went all girl in its next incarnation, which was an immediate disaster and it died from PC suicide. Oddly enough guys like to drink with other guys and when there aren't any, we go elsewhere. Look around. Detroit has an amazing history of men's clubs and men's bars and when you meddle with that tradition uninvited, the result tends to be disastrous.

Yelp
Awesome gin mules... keep 'em coming. Across from Wayne State university football field is this welcoming gem

Yelp
Everything I ordered was amazing. I highly recommend the vegan tacos and shrimp po boy.

Yelp
The food is amazing here!! They offer gluten free and vegan options. The vegan grilled cheese and tomato soup is awesome. Caesar is awesome too! Brent and Michelle are awesome! I love coming here when they bartend! The owner and manager are so welcoming!

Yelp
True to the eclectic nature of New Center/Midtown Detroit you can expect to see a wide range of interesting people at this establishment. College students, a patched group leather cut-off vest Harley Davison riders, construction workers in uniform, a family of seven with children chasing butterflies, and a family dressed like they are ready for Baptist church can all be eating or drinking here when you visit. The real star of this pub is surprisingly the food. Have to get the Szechuan rub that comes on the chicken fingers, unexpectedly delightful spice that numbs your mouth. In the summertime the outdoor space makes for a good dose of vitamin D, a gentle breeze makes it a perfect afternoon/evening.

Yelp
I went in just to try the v. barria tacos and they had live music playing and it felt like I was in a movie. Great vibe if you Dining in and the food was 5/5 them garlic fries

Alejandra G.

Yelp
Tried the vegan/vegetarian tacos and they were amazing! Woodbridge pub is now my go-to spot. I highly recommend it!

Yelp
My husband and I have been going here for years. We love the owners and the staff. Feels like you're part of a family. The food is really good. Very diet friendly. We're gluten free And they have a lot of options for us including gluten free fries and a bun for your burger. Their wings are unique and really good. The Brussels are amazing. Not your average pub food but I feels like a neighborhood pub vibe. Highly recommend!
google avatar

Mike L.

Yelp
The best rueben I've ever had! The sauerkraut is pickled with a unique flavor and placed on the sandwich as a whole leaf rather than the normal shredded presentation and served on ciabatta bread. Corned beef comes from Eastern Market. The atmosphere is a an absolute vibe! Highly recommend! Yorick provided great service.
google avatar

Yelp
Delicious true neighborhood spot. Friendly staff. Somewhat recently revamped menu--provides great variety of food options made fresh. (Brunch is so yummy!) Multiple nights of live music, karaoke. Really lucky to have this option in Woodbridge!

Cyndi S.

Yelp
Stopped in with my daughter for a cheese burger, truffle fries, tomato soup and grill cheese before "Hamilton" at Fisher Theater. Service was good, and wait staff friendly. Truffle fries were a disappointment. When fries arrived, they just regular fries, not truffle fries. Waiter confirmed they were "truffle" fries. Stu disappointed.

Yelp
I love the plant based birria tacos! They are the bomb! I definitely go there and order them maybe once a week. You can order them vegan too, so that's a plus!

Hana F.

Yelp
I haven't ate here but this pub is owned by the nicest people. I was grabbing pizza next door and got a flat next to their building. He offered to help me put my spare on and my boyfriend was on his way. Ended up having to charge tools and he told us to help ourselves and even offered and brought us out drinks. We will be making it a point to come back here and eat. I'm so grateful for the kindness offered

Tyler B.

Yelp
Place has tons of good food, live bands, and great owners. Making sure everyone's food is good and drinks are full

Yelp
My girlfriend and I walk by here regularly and decided to finally pop in for a drink on this Monday evening (about 7:45). We walked in to a chill atomosphere. Only 3 ppl at the bar and they had drinks already and were chilling. We stood at the bar and didn't sit immediately, because there were dirty plates and such that needed to be cleared. No problem waiting a couple minutes for someone to clear them and greet us. Unfortunately, we stood there for about 5 minutes and were never greeted. 5 minutes is a very long time in this context. One bartender simply ignored us while facing us (she definitely saw us no question) and talking to other patrons. She literally ignored us so brazenly that it took me a minute to realize we were being treated that way. The other waitress/bartender came back behind the bar from serving a table and didn't greet us either. She was on the register with her back to us, and when another couple came in after us ( a man and woman), she immediately turned and greeted them. Still did not greet us. I made a sound of shock and she muttered hello. No "be right with you" or anything. We left. I do not spend my time or money in places where I'm mistreated. I always hope to be treated well in businesses touting flags that represent support of my community in their window, but I was treated terribly tonight. No excuses. They didn't "not see" us. They weren't busy. They just chose to be rude and unprofessional. I hope the owner reads this and actually cares. Real buzz kill on a nice Monday night out with my partner.

Yelp
Woodbridge has always been a Detroit gem. It didn't disappoint despite being sweltering hot and without AC! The food was amazing, the service was friendly and timely, and it remains a wonderful Detroit hub for delicious food.

Yelp
Nice chill spot for a or beer. The menu is pretty good with the faux philly and truffle fries a recommend. Wed and Thurs nights are low key and a great time to meet some locals.

Yelp
Eeeek. Although I've had a good experience here in the past, I believe I've written Woodbridge off my list of places to eat. My husband and I stopped in for brunch and saw mimosas on the menu... $11 for a carafe. That's comparable to the carafe at Northern Lights, so we were about to order. UNTIL I saw the bartender actually make the mimosa... she poured some bubbly into the carafe about 35% full, then used the bar-gun orange juice to fill it up the rest of the way. Barely any booze and super-low quality "orange juice"? No thanks. Protip: Northern Lights uses an ENTIRE BOTTLE of bubbly for their mimosa and fills the remaining 250ml with OJ from a gallon jug. Mimosa aside, we checked out the menu and decided on some eats. I went with the Monte Cristo $9 and Jacob got the Huervos Rancheros $9. Our food took quite a while to get to us, but it appears there were a few people who ordered before us. Once our food came up, I was bummed to find the Monte Cristo wasn't served with any type of preserves or jam as it traditionally is. I had to ask and was given jelly. The sandwich wasn't very cheesy or meaty. It was dry, too. Jacob's meal was okay but mostly eggs with very tiny bits of veggies throughout. The service was lackluster but not necessarily bad. I'd just like to have been asked how my meal was, and I'd love to not wait fifteen minutes for the bill when we're visibly done with our meal. Overall, not a great brunch spot. The food was boring and uninspired and the service left much to be desired.
google avatar

Stacia G.

Yelp
Great place for an after work beer and bite. I've been here several times. The menu is limited but carries a lot of different items from veg to meat eater. The beer selection on tap is small but mighty and have beers in bottles too. Staff is friendly and helpful- food comes pretty timely as with refills. Great spot, casual, low key

Yelp
Came here looking for bottomless mimosas and was sad to find out I was misinformed but my goodness what a great discovery anyway. First of all, it was one of the most beautiful days an autumn could ever hand us. Mid to Hugh 70s, no humidity, just a nice cool day that threatened on warm, and with any sort of physical exertion it would have crossed that border. Luckily for my sweat glands and my sweater, most of physical exertion was limited to pouring mimosas from carafe to glass. Even though they were not bottomless per se, a big ol' carafe was merely 10 buckaroos so well it worked out about the same for my typical consumption. Secondly, the food. Boom shakalaka boom boom! This was the most delicious hash I've ever tasted bar none. I think it is however they prepare the mushrooms, but the flavor ohhhhhhh the flavor cascading over my tongue and being swished around my mouth. I can't remember the last time I've enjoyed a meal this much. And finally the staff. I was sitting at the bar and I have nothing but great things to say about the friendliness and attentiveness that was provided. I will flail myself thoroughly when I get home because I'm shocked and chagrined that I've waited so long to try this. Highly recommended!

Nicole S.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in all of Detroit. Food menu is so much more than a standard pub, genuinely amazing quality and great options for vegetarians! My go-to when I can't decide on where I want to eat. Often go there to pick up food bc it's that good. (The tacos!!!) (The tomato soup!!!) The place is always hopping with a fun crowd and the staff are so friendly, and inviting. Jazz night, karaoke night, piano bar, there's always something going on. The most underrated pub in Detroit.

Terry S.

Yelp
Sorry to say this rating is for our server/bartender who was a robot: no smiles (at all), no pleasantries, so cold I finally asked her if we did something to offend her. No change in attitude. We have always enjoyed your friendly staff. Such a shame. Food was good, though.

Yelp
Woodbridge has new (I think?) owners/ management and can only speak to the current staff. One word... Awesome! Great neighborhood bar/ restaurant. Everything we have tried has been very yummy! Chicken sandwich is delish! Fries... kinda perfect! Staff is friendly and on top of your orders. Still making our way thru the menu and looking forward to doing so. Keep on keeping on!

Yelp
This place is awesome!! Cool laid back environment with awesome staff. If I was ever going to buy another bar / restaurant this would be it! Taco Tuesday rocks! Keep up the good work.

Yelp
I have attended Woodbridge a few times but I have never been meet with this kind of disrespect. Food runner had an issue with me standing in the lane while I was talking to the bartender. He yells at me and I let him through. I continue my conversation with the bartender and he runs into me coming the other way. I told him to not touch me and he threw my just purchased drink out. And then continued to kick me out. Not worth the trouble. Update. I called back to get the name of the employee. Turns out it was the owner that pushed me. Don't come to a place where the owner treats people like crap for no reason. Update to comment. After calling the bar back I was continuously apologized to by the bartender in attendance as well as other people in the bar. The bar tenders walked up to my group after I left the bar to apologize for the actions of there owner. I was also pushed first as he was trying to push me out of his way. Owner will be this unsuccessfully until the owner learns to respect customers.

Yelp
Met a friend here for drinks and dinner. Very nice interior. Sat at the bar and ordered a CBS. After catching up we ordered. He got wings and I got the Jalapeño Popper Burger. If you like a medium it's only available for the 8oz burger. At first I was a bit miffed because I wanted the smaller portion. But I realized that it was a form of quality. Better to admit limitations than promise what you can't deliver. Burger was good and my friend enjoyed his wings.

Yelp
One of the first spots I came to in Detroit in 2011, during which time they actually had amazing food (would have rated five stars in spite of the server who was *the rudest server I have ever had in my life*), Woodbridge Pub is that neighborhood bar that epitomizes mediocrity but isn't horrible so you keep going there. It's got a charming, warm, cozy atmosphere, service is friendly but rather inconsistent, and the food isn't great, but it's not awful. So, you know.
google avatar

Yelp
My wife, son, and I ate dinner here for the first time last night and were immediately struck by the service. Our waitress was exceptionally kind and personable. She made all of us, especially our toddler, feel welcome. We appreciated getting to know her and hearing her recommendations for cocktails and food. In addition to the service, I enjoyed the outdoor seating and range of vegetarian and vegan options. We will be back again soon!

Yelp
I had a nice whiskey pour and tried a Green Tea shot for the very first time here. The chicken gyro wrap was loaded with chunks of chicken and I also had the chicken wontons. In theory is sounded good, but in execution it tasted okay. The chicken was too dry for my liking and it resembled more of a chicken filled egg roll (I would not order again). Overall, I like this cozy bar and def like stopping through for a libation or two.

Yelp
We found Yanni and Kenzie from The Greek! The service and craft cocktails are amazing!!! The jalapeño business is nobody's business!! Great if you love slightly spicy cocktails like I do!!!

Yelp
Great spot. Bar selection diverse and fun. Great service from bartenders. Food available and historically good pub fare but tweaked for current times.

Yelp
I am writing this review and openly stating up front that I am willing to change the 1 star rating back to what coming to the Woodbridge Pub had always been for me personally up until my last visit. A 4/5 star experience with exceptional food. But if the individual or individuals who personify the lack of respect, work ethic, hospitality, professionalism, etc. Are not removed from this business immediately, I will neither change my review or return to a restaurant I have patronized well over 70+ times in the last decade The neighborhood anchor that this establishment has been for well over a decade and provided to the Woodbridge, Detroit community was always second to none. The Woodbridge Pub has always been EXACTLY what a neighborhood bar restaurant should be without the pretentiousness that is commonly associated with 'Johnny come lately, capitalist mindset' entrepreneurs. Clearly the owners put their heart and soul into making this place the gem that it is. I say all of this to say explicitly.......I had the ABSOLUTE WORST MOST INDIGNANT SERVICE OF MY LIFE DURING MY LAST VISIT. I walked in to the Woodbridge Pub for a business lunch with 2 associates on Wednesday October 24th around 12:30pm. The only visible employee on the floor motioned to us to sit wherever we would like but only AFTER shooting me and my associates MULTIPLE looks of disdain and disregard. When we took our seat the same aforementioned host/server/supervisor/manager/whatever asked for our drink order. When one of my associates hesitated and asked for more time to decide the server rolled their eyes and made a plainly obvious subtle passive/aggressive smartass remark. We were all aware of said individuals indignance the very SECOND it happened. Until our full order was placed (which took roughly another 8-10 min.) said server continued with their particular brand of "I could give 2 f#@ks less about you & your friends" posturing. Once our order was placed our server proceeded to add insult to injury by messing up even the most trivial parts of food/beverage delivery. One of my associates ordered coffee and received what could best be described as coffee that was so cold it was likely made the day before. Then the server had the gall to half apologize by saying, "I'm sorry I did notice that there wasn't any steam coming off of the coffee"..... Really? Then what compelled you to bring it over in the first place? My associate literally demonstrated how dead this coffee was by holding his finger in the liquid to show our server how ridiculous and insulting it was for this coffee to be delivered. There were even more examples of carelessness, narcissism, entitlement and utter ineptitude that I could spend another 3000+ words describing but I think I have laid my point bare.... .....it comes down to this. You CANNOT have people like this representing your business in an industry based on HOSPITALITY! Your platform, your food, your ambience, your connection to your neighborhood is too good to tolerate this level of B.S. from an exceptionally under qualified staff member who YOU have chosen to represent your business. I hope you course correct so that I never have an experience like this at your establishment ever again.

Yelp
I've been here more than a few times, and have always been happy with the food and drinks. They have a rotating menu that features locally grown produce, some of which they grow in their own garden. There are plenty of vegetarian as well as meat-eater options, and their ingredients are always a bit surprising in a great way. They have this fig and goat cheese flatbread sometimes that is AMAZING. The servers are always friendly, and it has a real neighborhood vibe. This is definitely a solid choice, and a bit off the beaten path. If you hate chains and anything chain-like, you'll like this joint.

The staff was nice and I may have come in at a bad time, but there was many food items not available, and the stuff we did get wasn't the best as claimed.
