This place has all you could want in bbq. The sauces are amazing! I like the Texas bbq flavor 😋. Brooklyn was an amazing waitress! We even scored some apparel. Highly recommend 💚💯💯

This was our first time here. We have been wanting to try their food but unfortunately we don't get to Lapeer very often. I love the old downtown area. The restaurant is clean and has that rustic feel. I ordered the jambalaya and my wife had the mac & cheese sandwich with burnt ends. The food was good but just average. I guess I'll keep looking for the place out there that makes great jambalaya. My wife really liked the sweet potato fries with honey & cinnamon dipping sauce. They had several micro brews on tap.

Google
This was delicious BBQ. We ordered the Porky’s Revenge and really liked it. Love the locally made sauces. The service was good, not great, but I was still pleased. The noise level was louder than I prefer, but it didn’t hinder our conversation. The cocktails looked delicious but I didn’t partake this time. I recommend a stop here.

Their lunch is delicious, our waiter Erikka, so sweet , there outside sitting so nice

Google
We never been here, but came because our usual place was out of power. What a happy accident because it was really tasty. Smash style burgers were made nearly perfectly (I'm a burger snob) the cheese sticks/Mac n cheese were both top notch. Very much enjoyed the whole experience. Definitely going back

Google
We originally found Woodchips during the Covid shut down. I love that they were able to expand. It became one of our favorite places and I don't even like BBQ. I believe nothing but their ribs are sauced. Food is always good. They have the best chicken wings and you have to try the variety of eggrolls. We also like the chicken tacos and BBQ quesadilla. For the prices they could give a larger serving of fries, not their strongest quality. We usually have good service. I don't enjoy the one person at the hostess stand, iykyk. They don't serve dessert because they want to go to Kookys and Cream, located across the street. If you bring in your own dessert, whether it's from Kookys and Cream, for a celebration, they will charge you for a plating fee. There is a coupon for a free cookie with a purchase at the bottom of your receipt. I highly recommend eating here and supporting a local business that cares for their community.

Google
Great food. The best made from scratch BBQ and side dishes we have tasted in quite a while. Excellent service from Leila, very efficient and knowledgeable. Highly recommend if you love awesome food, people and atmosphere. Thank you!

Google
We visited on a Friday afternoon, around 4:30pm. We had no issue being seated promptly. Our server, Ashlie A., was insanely attentive! I don't think my drink ever had a chance to drop below half full and she was getting it topped off every time. Excellent service from her!! We had an appetizer, and a to-go order, and she put them in at separate times so that everything came out when it should have. Regarding the food, we had the Burnt End Loaded Fries, with jalapeños, they were excellent! I had the Carolina Combo and the wife had The Eagle Wrap. Everything was very good, will be returning when in the area. Thank you!

Yelp
Food is absolutely delicious. Restaurant is clean & comfortable. Waitstaff has always been top notch. One of the few GREAT places to eat .

Yelp
It was ok. I would have liked to see more bark and more smoke flavor. They were a little tough. I like a little snap but pulls away from the bone easy. The Mac and cheese were ok. It would have been better without so much bread crumbs. The burnt ends was so so not real burnt ends. Cornbread was cold and too sweet. It was more like jiffy . Coleslaw bland and dry. Needs to be more creamier less watery. The fried pickles were good. Tasted like homemade pickle wrapped in egg roll wrapping. I would put them with Dickey or Famous Dave. But far cry from Slows in Detroit. Staff was fantastic very friendly.

Yelp
It's all hype. They make a big deal about their menu when you get seated but the food isn't anything special. I've had better Wings at Buffalo Wild Wings (and better sauce selection too). The hamburger was sub par (go across the street to Detroit Burger Bar for a much better burger). Watch your wallet if you order any of the fancy ice-teas; and no free refills on them either! The BBQ sauces, for a BBQ place, frankly we're gross. I would have preferred 'Open Pit'. Service was mediocre - no shock n' awe there either. Will I be back?? Unlikely, unless they're the last place around after a nuclear apocalypse - and even then id probably seek out a Culver's in the rubble. Two enthusiastic thumbs down!!

Yelp
We went here to have some good food but there was a motorcycle thing going on and we never made it in. Recommend by some friends we still have no idea how it is.

Yelp
Again a great meal. Thank you. I brought a friend in for her first time and couldn't believe how big the burgers are. And how good it was. She ended up taking half of it home

Yelp
We love going to Woodchips and gladly make the 40 minute drive for their food and service. Everything we've ordered here has been 5 stars. The Sprouts, French Onion, Egg Rolls, platters and nachos...we love it all. Such a friendly staff all around too.

Yelp
It's been awhile since I hit up this place, and they've definitely elevated their game! The inside has a great vibe, and is very inviting. High top tables in the bar area, and low top tables in the regular dining room. The food was delicious, and was given huge portions! I was glad to see Green Beans as a side choice, they were cooked perfectly, (they could use a smidge less garlic) but still really yummy! The sweet potato fries were AMAZING, and served with a sweet dipping sauce. But the star of the dinner was the pulled pork, and all of their delicious homemade sauce choices! (Their Texas sauce was my favorite!) Hubby got a burger, since it was their special on Tuesday nights. Said it was really good, and he loved the fresh cut fries. Our server Caroline was EXCELLENT! She went over the specials, the different sauce flavors, kept our drinks filled, and was very attentive! She also let us know about different specials they have throughout the week, and happy hour. Will definitely have to get back there soon! Highly recommend

Yelp
This place is an absolute hidden gem. I'm from Texas and I like BBQ! I went to Woodchippers because of the high ratings and I see why now, it did not disappoint. I had the plate with brisket, pulled pork, pulled chicken, sausage, and I added ribs. Brisket and pork ribs are my go to judge for BBQ. The brisket was moist and tender with a good full flavor. The pork ribs had a nice seal on the outside and were full of flavor without being dry. They were not fall off the bone tender but the meat was well done without being dry. The Mac and cheese was delicious as was the cornbread. I washed it all down with an Octoberfest brew that was a nice seasonal treat. Great little place to check out if you're looking for some good BBQ.

Yelp
If there were 6 stars, I'd choose that. I have been waiting 2 years to try this restaurant and finally did. Being it was our first time in, the waitress explained to us that absolutely everything in this restaurant all the way down to the sauces, is homemade. Nothing is frozen nothing is prepackaged. We had the jambalaya, smoked meats burrito, kids had boneless wings and fries. The fries were surprisingly perfect, since Everywhere I Go that has their own hand cut fries, they usually end up turning out saggy and dark brown. But woodchips has apparently found the secret technique because they were just like frozen fries other than being freshly made. Absolutely recommend, and we'll certainly be back.

Carl M H.

Yelp
Kept hearing positive things about this place , huge bbq fan ... honestly wasn't impressed food was ok small portions, wait staff seemed busy , too busy for refills on our drinks ... side items were cold ..We are extremely disappointed Maybe just an off day here .. maybe another try in future ...

Yelp
Three of us had lunch here yesterday. It was a beautiful 70 degree afternoon so we sat outside on the patio. I had the excellent reuben eggrolls and a burger. The burger was very greasy, like dripping grease. I would have preferred they served it less greasy. The one thing that really shocked me was one of my party ordered the jumbalaya. It was not a very large serving and was $17! I thought that was ridiculous. It also had to be remade as there were small pieces of aluminum foil in the dish for some reason. Our waitress was very nice and did an excellent job. I would eat here again and try something else.

S A.

Yelp
I've had several items off the menu and you can't go wrong. Probably one of the best burgers I've ever had. I absolutely loved their fries when they first opened, but they've changed since. New fries are still good though! great margaritas, too.

Constance S.

Yelp
Catered for 20 people. Their bbq is too die for. We had pork and chicken, macaroni, chicken wings and cornbread. They were soo accommodating and helpful. I will definitely use them again.
google avatar

Beth C.

Yelp
I've only had takeout and have yet to dine in, but their food is fantastic! Chicken quarters were super tender but with crispy skin and perfectly seasoned. Didn't even need sauce! The green beans are garlicky and taste wok-fried (not the traditional mush that's typical of bbq joints). The pit beans are tangy and smoky and not sickly sweet. I don't usually prefer sweet barbecue sauce but theirs has a ginger flavor that makes it so unique and delicious. My only complaints would be that the cornbread is very small (it's a 2-bite mini muffin that comes with the bbq platters) and the chopped brisket was a bit too salty. But I'll definitely be back!

Yelp
Yummy bbq spot with good vibes! Our serve Brooke gave us great service, and our food was yummy! We were able to walk in on a Friday night and get sat right away which is nice! The restaurant is located in the middle of downtown. Started with the fried pickles, which are wrapped in wonton wraps which weren't my favorite but not bad. The Brussels were a good appetizer I liked the balsamic they were soaked in! The jalapeño cheddar sausage had great flavor, the Mac n cheese was nice and creamy, and the sweet potato fries were delicious with an amazing sweet honey cinnamon sauce to dip in.
google avatar

Lorinda Y.

Yelp
Always excellent food here. They have the best fried pickles ever! The burnt ends are always awesome but go quickly. My go to is always those two and the Mac daddy.

Anna H.

Yelp
Some of the best barbecue I've had in a long time. The platter with a little of everything was awesome and I want to go back so bad!! Our waitress was so nice and talkative, you could tell she liked her job. Everyone was very polite and said bye and thank you when we left :) The music choices were great and it wasn't too loud. I'm from Chicago, but I would gladly come back to LaPeer for some Woodchips BBQ

Yelp
Two thumbs up and a snap. We would be back yesterday if we lived near to the place, but we are not

Jeff M.

Yelp
The food at Wood chips is basically pretty good. How be it I don't consider it consistent. You never know if you're gonna get meat that is really dry or really succulent. Also since the pandemic, I feel like they really gouged the prices and it's extremely expensive to eat there.

Madelyn G.

Yelp
The service here is good, the food is amazing. My family always looks forward to a meal here.

Lisa M.

Yelp
One of my favorite restaurants in Lapeer! Food and service are always excellent. You can't go wrong with any of the meals, but I think the brisket is THE best...along with some Mac & cheese and Brussel sprouts!

Candi G.

Yelp
The pulled pork was 90% fat, could not eat. The green beans and cole slaw were good, but for what we paid we expected better quality meat.

Fjdk G.

Yelp
Used to be able to get a great meal at a fair price. Now you pay $13-$15 just for a sandwich with no side. If you'd like a side, it comes at the additional cost of $3.49. Not to mention, they love to go crazy with salt whether it be the meats or their chips. Meats have been dry past several visits as well. I've given them multiple chances thinking maybe it was just an off day. Nope. I'll spend my hard earned money elsewhere.

Jaime P.

Yelp
First time here, coming from NC we weren't expecting such a special BBQ place in MI...but wow! Everything is made from scratch and I wish we had more time to try it all. From the start the staff was friendly and our server Heather was outstanding-- knowledgable and clearly proud of the food. We had the best Bloody Marys, reuben eggrolls and burnt end nachos. 4 stars because we only had apps but we're coming back for dinner! Truly appreciate the fresh, delicious food and genuine hospitality!

Yelp
Great bbq! I highly recommend the sliced brisket! Everything is good you can't go wrong with any of the options I also loved the string beans! Game changer seriously

Yelp
Waited over half hour to be seated. They took our info and texted us when ready so we walked around lapeer working up our appetites. Place is nice with wood slab epoxy tables and exposed brick walls. Very cold and windy? I didn't see any fans but you could feel the air movement and it was chilly. Ordered the Rueben egg rolls which came out pretty quick and were very good. The drinks were served in mason jar glassware. Our food order however took way too long to be served. Brisket nachos, a burger and the combo (brisket, pork, chic, sausage Mac& cheese and pit beans. ). The sauces are great...best I've ever had at a bbq place. The bbq is ok. It seemed old , maybe the combo was done 1st and dried out in a window while the other stuff was made, I don't know, it just wasn't great. The guy eating the burger said it was ok. The nachos were interesting and worth trying, unfortunately the guy that ordered them doesn't like spicy and they are pretty spicy. We don't get to Lapeer often so probably won't be back. If closer it would be worth a second try to see if it was just an off night. Nothing was bad (except too long for food to be served and chilly restaurant).

Yelp
Zero stars. Absolutely horrible..... completely different experience than before and definitely will not be returning to this place or the express! Over an hour and a half wait for food, every time someone walked by they said our meals were "next." They even offered us a free appetizer while we waited, and it never showed!!!! Injury to insult. I ordered "the eagle sandwich," described in the menu as chicken, bacon, cheddar, garlic aoili, lettuce and tomato. Not sure what I got but it was a bun with a few shreds of chicken, one thinly sliced roma tomato and a dash of a sauce that didn't have flavor. My sandwich was completely missing bacon, cheddar, and lettuce. Barely any pulled chicken on the sandwich and a small spoonful of mac n cheese. How embarrassing that after an hour and a half I didn't even get the food I ordered. The waitress actually walked by and asked if they forgot to put the side on the plate. .. no offer to fix. That comment highlights the meals put on our plate were not the "normal." When she finally came by again, she offered to take my plate away after I had only had a bite of the meager, unimpressive sandwich!!!! The waitress then shared that they ran out of plates so they didn't give the full sides that come with the meal. Manager was by originally to sell us craft drinks.... then mia for the next hour and a half. Drinks sat empty. Unreal... we have been extremely patient and generous during pandemic but this is ridiculous.... we were told the manager was "too busy" to deal with us, even though we didn't ask. Then waited for the bill for 30 minutes. Manager finally came out and offered to take our bill for payment. After the annoying evening, they offered 25% discount. Only starting they are busy. Shame when all that was needed was to level set expectations and simply share they are behind on orders and it would be a long wait. We have been to many local places continuing to support the community but this experience was completely unacceptable. While we have dined here many times in the past with friends and family, this will be our last. Over 2 hours later.....

Marlana S.

Yelp
Fantastic food every time! Love the Winner Winner Chicken Dinner! Great community support! Love this place!!!!!

Yelp
Woodchips has great food! Especially love the bbq eggrolls! Try it out - fun atmosphere and bar selection when you eat in.

Aidan W.

Yelp
Great food. I highly recommend the corn bread. Not a high-end/fancy restaurant. Good service from when you walk in to when you leave.

Jack Z.

Yelp
Usually this place is the best. The past few times We've been, the food was delicious! But the past time we went it was not good at all. Both of us thought the food was dry,non seasoned, and even the (usually great) sauces were a HUGE miss. Definitely upset about that

Susie D.

Yelp
Great food, owners supports the whole community. Friendly staff. Love the egg rolls and bbq.

Yelp
Omg BECKY!!!! Delicous BBQ alert. Derrick and I were just driving around and we stumbled upon this little gem. We ordered the rueben eggrolls they were fantastic. The meat inside was smoked and with tender veggies. I could just eat that for the rest of my life. Lol. Then we shared the 3 meat trio. Chicken, jalapeño sausage and pulled pork. It came with cornbread and two side's, we picked coleslaw and greenbeans. The meat was so smoky and tender. I was so full, I couldn't put my fork down!!! I highly recommend this place they were so awesome. Everything they make is in house and fresh. The coleslaw was top notch and the green beans had a great smoky flavor as well. Bring an empty stomach you will not be disappointed. I am sure glad I am eating meat again. They also have a location in Oxford. Outside seating in this cute little town.

Yelp
This is one of my all time favorite restaurants now. I am not even a huge fan of BBQ sauce but their Sweet BBQ is one of the best things I've ever tasted. I could literally drink a bottle of it it is so good! Been here many times now & it's always delicious. Can't wait to go back again. The food is delicious & we've always had very friendly wait staff. Can't say enough good things about this local restaurant!

Genelle S.

Yelp
Food made with love. Great appetizers. Mozzarella sticks with ranch were so good. It's all about the eggrolls for me and yummy dipping sauces. The owner and his passion for community support inspires us to choose this place.

Julianne S.

Yelp
First and foremost, the service at Woodchips is personable, efficient, and attentive. The environment is inviting and appealing, and offers various seating options. If service and ambiance were the only variables, we would return for these reasons alone. But the food choices are numerous and everything we had was delicious. Our niece had the (huge) pulled chicken sandwich. My husband had the ribs, (enough for two meals), and I had the jambalaya. It was on the spicy side for me, but I was still able to enjoy it. We definitely will make return visits to Woodchips and have already recommended it to others.

Yelp
I've always got a hankering for good BBQ, and decided to go here and check this place out. It seems to have a decent following despite it being slightly out of the way. I have to say, I'm a fan. After doing a bit of driving, I finally arrived and was seated right away. I reviewed the menu and was pleasantly surprised at the broad menu of items to choose from. I'm a brisket lady, so I scoured to see what they had. They had a few good selections to choose from, and I went with the brisket sandwich with a side of fries. I really enjoyed the brisket here, and it's one of the better dishes that I've had in regards to how they cook their meat. It was done perfectly! Whatever they did to make it was amazing, and it's on my short list of places that do BBQ right. Meat was tender, not overly smokey and chopped, which is the way I like my Brisket. (I'm a slight brisket snob, so I'm fussy and judgy when it comes to how people cook it.) While I was impressed with the meat (the heart of any BBQ meal) I will say, I had a few things that were minor observations which I feel the need to mention. For starters, the BBQ sauces here aren't bad, but I guess their made in house. I wasn't blown away by any of them, and they were kind of mediocre. I had 5 bottles on my table to choose from, and only 3 of them were applicable to me. Two of them were spicy, which I don't do because I have a spice limit in regards to what my stomach and mouth can handle. The other 3 were okay, and I ended up using a lot of the sweet sauce to add to my meal. Even though the BBQ sauce was decent, I've had better sauces before. Again, not terrible, just not impressed. Also, the server I had was good, but didn't really offer up much information and kind of left me on my own. Not that I need her to sit with me and cut up my food, but when it was my first time here. I could have used some explanation on the sauces and an extra plate to dip them in to see what was best for me. I know, your thinking "look Amy, your an adult get over it. you could have communicated this to her it's your fault too." Yes, I am aware, but I didn't realize this until long after she had left the table and was like "dammit I should have asked, to late now." I was starving and took care of it myself, going through each sauce to see which one I should start with. I've eaten at enough BBQ places that most servers give you the lecture of "have you eaten here before? Let me tell you about our sauces. Do you have any questions?" That's what I'm referring too. Also, the entrance here is cramped! You literally walk into the tables when you arrive. Weird. On a good note, the Manager (or maybe it was the owner? I don't know.) did circulate and talked to me for a good five minutes near the end of my meal. He said that they are expanding the place and will double in size here soon. They purchased the business adjacent to the place and will be adding on soon. YES. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and will gladly return in the future. Delicious!

Yelp
Recently made a trip up to Port Austin and Lapeer was on the way so we stopped into Woodchips. I've read about it for a year or two now and didn't want to pass up the opportunity for some good food! Grabbed the Texas BBB burger and added onion and pickle. Came with fries and they had one of my favorite beers in tap, the M-43 NE IPA, so I had to order that too. The order came out quickly and our server was a treat. We had excellent service and a really tasty burger. The decor and ambiance inside was very cool. It was everything you would hope to find in a small town bbq joint, but better. If I lived near this place, I'd be a regular. I would love to come back and check out more of the menu, I am more than intrigued! Two thumbs up for Woodchip BBQ!

Yelp
Great food, great atmosphere, and great waitress, what more could you ask for?? This was our first time trying Woodchips and we were not disappointed! My husband and I both tried the pulled pork, mine with mac n cheese and cole slaw, his with mac n cheese and baked beans, my daughter got the quesadilla, and we got the "L'il Mac" kids plate for our granddaughter. Pork was really tender and I loved being able to try all the different sauces, the apple one was my fave! Cornbread and mac n cheese were yummy as well. Chrissy was our waitress and she was Great!! Even though they were packed she was very attentive to all her tables, kept checking in with us and stayed on top of drink refills, plus she had a terrific personality so it made for a very enjoyable dining experience. We will definitely be back!!

Yelp
Went here for the first time food was great! The staff were super and Whitney is great! Our little one tipped herself over in her chair and the staff got us ice Whitney went and got bandages. We will be back most places don't care. You guys have an a++ place here! Thanks for having great staff!

Yelp
I love finding new BBQ spots and since we moved out to this area we haven't tried a new one in a few months. My girlfriend found Woodchips on Yelp and it's close to home so we decided to give it a shot! Located in quaint downtown Lapeer the place already has a lot of appeal. The service was very friendly from the moment we walked in the door. I wasn't sure what to go with so I ordered the Winner, Winner platter and added some sliced brisket to the 1/4 chickens. Food looked delicious when it arrived! The smoke and crispy skin on the chickens was apparent and looked amazing! The brisket was so-so. Nothing special. I could have gone without it. But the chicken could be raved about for days! My favorite sauces were the Texas and Michigan Apples. The other sauces were a little lacking on the flavor. All in all I will come back here again!

Yelp
Always a great meal and good service. Love The Lightening Burger! Have dined here several times and never disappointed!

Yelp
Just picked up food and service was horrible. The woman at the counter had a major attitude and did not appreciate that we were there and that they were busy. As a matter of fact she was upset because she had business. When I spend good money on food I expect decent service not Some one angry.

Keisha M.

Yelp
Love the food service and atmosphere! Even my 4 year old gives it 2 thumbs up! Pork wood chips and street tacos are my go too but I love everything, especially the egg rolls

Jeremy B.

Yelp
Fantastic bbq. Love the eggrolls and pulled pork sandwich. Yum yum definitely eating there often
