I've always got a hankering for good BBQ, and decided to go here and check this place out. It seems to have a decent following despite it being slightly out of the way. I have to say, I'm a fan.
After doing a bit of driving, I finally arrived and was seated right away. I reviewed the menu and was pleasantly surprised at the broad menu of items to choose from. I'm a brisket lady, so I scoured to see what they had. They had a few good selections to choose from, and I went with the brisket sandwich with a side of fries.
I really enjoyed the brisket here, and it's one of the better dishes that I've had in regards to how they cook their meat. It was done perfectly! Whatever they did to make it was amazing, and it's on my short list of places that do BBQ right. Meat was tender, not overly smokey and chopped, which is the way I like my Brisket. (I'm a slight brisket snob, so I'm fussy and judgy when it comes to how people cook it.)
While I was impressed with the meat (the heart of any BBQ meal) I will say, I had a few things that were minor observations which I feel the need to mention. For starters, the BBQ sauces here aren't bad, but I guess their made in house. I wasn't blown away by any of them, and they were kind of mediocre.
I had 5 bottles on my table to choose from, and only 3 of them were applicable to me. Two of them were spicy, which I don't do because I have a spice limit in regards to what my stomach and mouth can handle. The other 3 were okay, and I ended up using a lot of the sweet sauce to add to my meal. Even though the BBQ sauce was decent, I've had better sauces before. Again, not terrible, just not impressed.
Also, the server I had was good, but didn't really offer up much information and kind of left me on my own. Not that I need her to sit with me and cut up my food, but when it was my first time here. I could have used some explanation on the sauces and an extra plate to dip them in to see what was best for me. I know, your thinking "look Amy, your an adult get over it. you could have communicated this to her it's your fault too." Yes, I am aware, but I didn't realize this until long after she had left the table and was like "dammit I should have asked, to late now." I was starving and took care of it myself, going through each sauce to see which one I should start with.
I've eaten at enough BBQ places that most servers give you the lecture of "have you eaten here before? Let me tell you about our sauces. Do you have any questions?" That's what I'm referring too.
Also, the entrance here is cramped! You literally walk into the tables when you arrive. Weird.
On a good note, the Manager (or maybe it was the owner? I don't know.) did circulate and talked to me for a good five minutes near the end of my meal. He said that they are expanding the place and will double in size here soon. They purchased the business adjacent to the place and will be adding on soon. YES.
Overall, I enjoyed my experience here and will gladly return in the future. Delicious!
