A hidden treasure in San Francisco! My husband and I stopped by early this morning for a drip coffee and a dry cappuccino — truly the best coffee ever, far better than anything from the big-box chains. The flavors were rich, clean, and perfectly balanced. We also loved the antique wooden décor, the spotless wooden floors, and all the thoughtful details that show how much love and effort the owner(s) put into this place. Cozy, charming, and exceptional in every way. We will definitely be back!

Nice ambiance! The window seats are comfortable and a good place for people-watching. It was a nice place to chat with my Brother. Their matcha (with I asked for plain and in water) wasn't bad, though I am a matcha snob who doesn't go out for drinks much so I don't know how to rate it. I recommend the Humanito empanada-you'll know it was the right call to order one the moment you smell it

My boyfriend and I checked out Wooden Coffeehouse on a late Sunday morning. They were busy, but the line moved quickly and the staff were friendly. Most tables were taken but we were able to snag a seat after a few minutes of waiting. We really enjoyed the pastries and my boyfriend really liked the cortado he ordered. I got a vanilla latte, but I couldn’t really taste the vanilla which was a bummer. I will definitely be visiting again though because it is in our neighborhood ☺️

The cashier was very friendly and nice to talk to. Good coffee with a nice setting to hang out at.

I ordered an oat matcha latte to enjoy in the coffeehouse and it was so tasty. Everything about it was perfect so I’m glad I trusted the other reviews about this being the best spot in the neighborhood for matcha lattes. Now here is another testament 🙏🏼 I would definitely recommend for anyone who has dairy allergies too as they were very nice about my needs.

This is the best coffee and coffee shop in the area. Support local and enjoy a perfectly made cup of joe. (Also, they have the most amazing egg muffin things on the weekends)

10/24/2025, 9:20am I just moved to the neighborhood, and this coffee shop is the closest one to me. I usually would not say something like this, but the difference in how the Mexican woman cashier treats white customers vs black customers is honestly unbelievable. I have come here three times. Each time, I stood behind someone getting a warm greeting and a friendly conversation, which is exactly the kind of charm a neighborhood coffee shop should have. When it was my turn, there was no acknowledgment and the interaction becomes noticeably curt. As I waited, I watched her mood shift back to cheerful and welcoming when serving others. The two gentlemen making the drinks have always been very friendly to everyone and are the reason I kept giving this place a chance. But after three visits, each time my experience is ruined by interacting with an unwelcoming person first thing.

Fav place. Could get noisy when there's a line but if you're able to filter out the sounds it's a great place to get work done. Plenty of outlets and seating.

The coffee is decent but a bit expensive, although not the best in the area. The empanadas are good and nice to have as a snack when in a pinch. The chai is too sweet and I'm not as big of a fan. There are a decent number of a tables and chairs, and free wifi, making it the best place in the area to study or do work. But there are some flies by the entrance that are a bit distracting.

This was a solid cappuccino :) I like the small menu and the wooden cabinets, I'll have to come back to try "the thing"

Not a bad cafe to work in; a decent amount of tables and seating, as well as free wifi! The space was a little bit dark and had a lot of flies near the entrance, but other than that everything was good. I placed a latte order and then I think someone swiped it? They kindly made me another one!

Cute neighborhood coffee shop with a good selection of espresso drinks. We had a couple of iced oat milk lattes, which were on the pricier side. (They were tasty, though.) Our drinks were small- to medium-sized. Most of the people seated inside were working on laptops, so I think there's WiFi here. Service is quick -- it took about 5 min for our drinks to be ready. I think you could get a bigger cup of equally tasty coffee for the same price somewhere else. However, if you want to support a local non-chain business or work from a cozy place, this is a solid option.

Cute local coffee shop with a warm ambiance and cozy seating. A good place to come to if you're in need of a caffeine fix or if you just need a quiet place to get some work done. Prices are a little higher than what you will find in a chain coffee shop but the quality matches what you pay for. I was in the mood for a matcha latte and I find that at chain places, the matcha is a bit watered down so I always ask for extra matcha. However, the barista here told me that they actually make their matcha lattes strong here so I likely would not need the additional amount. I went with his recommendation and was very happy with my drink - it came with plenty of matcha and while matcha is bitter, the sweetness of the milk balanced out the taste profile. No additional sweetener is needed. My drink also came with some cute latte art on top.

Right next to the N Judah line, Wooden Coffeehouse is a quiet shop serving both work-from-the-coffee-shop locals and commuters heading through the Sunset Tunnel into the Financial District. This warm and cozy coffee shop offers a tidy selection of drinks and pastries. I ordered an oat latte and was just getting settled in when my latte was ready. They placed the latte on the counter, and I carried it to my table. The latte art was cute--it resembled a heart. I took a sip of this coffee made with love--and the coffee was burnt. It tasted smoky, as if the beans had been roasted with almost too much love. I was hoping to savor the cheerful, nutty taste of oats, but I'll take the intense, smoky taste of coffee enthusiastically roasted. Overall, Wooden Coffeehouse is a wonderful place to chill on those foggy mornings or work outside the office. The café is clean and coffee is sure to perk you up.

Cute cafe with a decent amount of table to do work at. Outlets may be limited in case planning on staying for a long time. I had the matcha latte, and had the sweetener options of simple syrup or the house made lavender syrup. I opted with the lavender, but the taste was very subtle. I'd probably go with simple syrup next time.

Cute coffee I stumbled upon after brunch! It's on a corner of the street with plenty of seating and seemed like a lot of people were there to study or work with their laptops! 10/10 recommend!

My love for chai through this year has guided me to Wooden Coffeehouse. It's located at the corner of Cole and Carl where N Judah came in and out of the tunnel. Boy! This mid modern café was almost jam packed with lots of people; I could hardly find just one table to place my cup of chai and cinnamon roll let alone having a chair to sit on! I could still watch a movie called "Who Framed Roger Rabbit" that was on a TV screen. I like the energy of the male barista who's been serving coffee drinks and small meals. It would be good if I might have a chance to chat with him more about my adventures.

This review is divided. The mocha wasn't impressive. It tasted watery and like it was uncertain if it had bitter chocolate or not. It lacked the body that espresso with good crema adds. However, the croissant I ordered with it was particularly delicious and flaky. So, I should probably try a different drink here and see if that improves things. They had plenty of seating, and the service was fast and friendly.

Every neighborhood in the Bay Area requires the existence of a neighborhood coffeehouse. I believe it's the law, and if it isn't the law, it might as well be since we have all become caffeine fanatics. In San Francisco, I think the legal requirement is at least four per neighborhood if you count the artisan chains, so let's just proclaim Wooden Coffeehouse as meeting Cole Valley's neighborhood requirement. Consequently, no one will need to be subpoenaed to show just cause that Cole Valley has not met the city's caffeine threshold. I rest my case. Came here on a whim looking for some caffeine and wow did I get lucky. The matcha latte was one of the best I've had in the city. My friend got a cappuccino and could not stop raving about how good it was. You can tell by how well the drinks were crafted that this place cares about the drinks they make. Will definitely be coming back.

One of the best chais I've had in SF! We stopped by Wooden Coffeehouse while we were waiting to get a table for brunch elsewhere and were super impressed with the quality of drinks! The cafe is pretty sparsely decorated with limited seating, and when we went on a Saturday morning it was pretty crowded. I ordered a chai latte and it was perfectly spiced and just sweet enough! Not watered down at all and definitely one of the better chai lattes I've had in the city. My friend got a latte with oat milk (+$1 up charge) and was also pretty satisfied. Overall a great local coffee shop and will definitely be back for the chai!

I was looking around for a quick spot for local coffee and found this place, so I decided on a latte with oat milk and my mom got a dirty chai with oat milk. It's a cute place with quick service and dog friendly, so I liked the environment but something about the coffee didn't do it for me, and the price was definitely not worth it.

Cute coffee shop in trendy Cole Valley. It's very bare bones right now due to the pandemic. No indoor seating. Also offers a pretty minimalist espresso and coffee menu. The Matcha Green Tea was nice and earthy.

Delightful and clean coffee shop in Cole Valley. Cappuccino and espresso were delicious, nice ambiance, cheerful baristas, and fun memorabilia (a shelf full of coffee puns to your heart's content). Hope to be back.

I really love the location of Wooden Coffeehouse, because it's right by Zazie and Cafe Reverie. I also really admired the baristas, who were so welcoming and friendly towards me as I waited for my drink. Per usual, I ordered a decaf almond milk cappuccino. The coffee and crema fell a little flat, though I still appreciated that they use Califia almond milk for their drinks. All in all, this would not be my absolute go-to place for coffee, but I would definitely visit again if I were back in the Cole Valley area for brunch.

If you're looking for good quality coffee and a cozy space to do some work, Wooden Coffeehouse does the job. Menu: coffee served drip, pour, or cold brew, and they have matcha, chai, tea, and a small selection of assorted pastries (nothing too filling). I liked my cappuccino ($4). There are plenty of single tables so you introverts can have alone time in peace :)

Always passed this place and finally made the stop in on a weekend afternoon. This review is based on my experience during COVID-19. The indoor space is currently closed for seating but is a nicely designed, large space. I love the retro look and the VHS collection and movie they have playing. I ordered an iced dirty chai latte with the ham and cheese croissant. The latte was delicious and not to sweet! One of the best I've had in SF so far. The croissant was also tasty, not greasy and glad it had more meat than cheese in it. Overall a friendly ambience and I regret not stopping by sooner!

Rude and inconsistent service. As a local I would expect bare min cordial staff but the woman who works there is rude (not just one bad day) and I actively avoid this business unfortunately even though it's right around the corner to where I live. Something needs to change.

A cozy place to get expensive coffee and some work done, except for that parrot! Came in on a Saturday afternoon and ordered an iced matcha latte with almond milk. They made it with oat milk, but I wasn't allergic, so oh well! The matcha flavor was disappointingly muted; I think the matcha to milk ratio was too low. The space itself is super comfortable--lots of wooden chairs and tables (I suppose, as per its name) and they're all plenty comfortable. The wifi is fast and there are plenty of outlets along the wall. I got about 2 hours of good quality work done when they brought in the parrot though. As much as I love animals, I don't think an otherwise peaceful coffeeshop is the place to bring such a loud animal. It would screech and talk super loudly and piercingly every minute or so. I had to leave about 30 minutes after due to the noise. Probably would rather go to another coffee shop if I'm looking to get cheaper coffee or more work done.

Coffee is OK, but quite poor staff. I was waiting over 15 minutes outside on a Sunday and the line didn't move. The fellow at the register was really struggling. He tried to talk to everyone socially when they were ordering because he knew he wasn't experienced enough to handle the volume. Everyone was so upset. You don't need to work at McKinsey to see the need an effective manager. So sorry to all the families in line that were so upset. Happy to take over the business and run it more effectively and efficiently.

every time I come in here I feel as if I'm being punished by the dudes with beards who seem to be running some kind of "invite only" boys club. I'm sorry that I came into a coffee shop to order coffee. Everyone is rude and the coffee isn't good. Coffee bros are the worst.

Tell me why I was just charged $50 for a pour over and two little boxes of filters. Coffee was pretty good though

Wooden Cafe is a cute cafe in Cole Valley PROS: -Coffee is delicious. I got a latte and the latte art was very well done and the milk was foamy with little tiny bubbles. Coffee itself was good. -Bathroom is one of the cleanest cafe bathrooms I have ever been in. Probably because the door is camouflaged -Located on a busy family friendly street. Good for people watching. Cute decorations and theme CONS: -WiFi is very slow. Would not work on internet here. This place is more for reading or hanging out or studying without WiFi. -No water spigot - have to ask for glass of water -Coffee is not cheap

I ordered decaf cappuccino and fell in love with it! That's def the best decaf drink I've ever had.

Conveniently near the dog park but every time I come in here I feel like the baristas are rude. That stands out here as this neighborhood is very relaxed and has really nice folks running small businesses for decades. The lattes and the hot chocolates are okay but I think I'll pass.

This is a newer coffeeshop in Cole Valley. You know me. I like Cole Valley. I walked by the other day and decided to visit this morning. I decided on the matcha tea, which was $5. They have some pastries for $4 and a regular, but tasteful coffee menu that includes chai and more. The match was nice and I found a seat near the window. The cafe was packed with people on their laptops pretty early. That's San Francisco life of course. I thought it was a nice cafe and you know what I think...let's all cash in on our cafe-owning dreams and we'll see what happens to our bank accounts. You will drain me of disposable income and I will piss green matcha.

Very good coffee and very nice baristas at the counter. I go here all the time for a good cup of coffee and snack / meal. What more could you ask for? Oh, and they have a good selection of food. Really digging their breakfast tacos. A great morning/afternoon is to grab a pour over coffee and two breakfast tacos and chow down at the park around the block.

This coffeehouse is GREAT! They recently added more signage on the outside of the building which I hope will bring in more people because I didn't even realize it was a coffee shop until I finally went inside today. I don't know if this means I wasn't paying attention or if their window signage is a little dark to clearly read from afar/across the street. I love to drink my coffee with Oak milk. I am lactose and I definitely don't like almond milk in my coffee (it completely changes the taste) and soy milk can be a little too thin and watery. Oat milk is so much thicker, so much tastier and it's better for the environment. I ordered a latte with oat milk, there are no real sizes here - the drinks on the board come out as a ~grande size unless you order a cortado (which is inherently smaller). I chatted with the barista the entire time I was in the coffee house - she was lovely and friendly and made a great coffee. The space is well filled with tables and places to stand. I could definitely see myself coming back when I work remotely. It's also right next to a Muni stop so it's very convenient to grab and go on your way to work or your way out for the day. They even have a bird! It was not there when I was here, but there were bird perches set up all over the place.

I'm not much of a coffee person, but this coffee slapped. I got "the thing" and really enjoyed the sweetness of the drink from the cinnamon and caramel, as well as its aesthetics. This is a cute place that can be enjoyed by both coffee aficionados and occasional indulgers such as myself.

Matcha latte (w whole milk) was a solid three stars. Good matcha flavor, but not as strong as I like it. Compared to CoffeeShop in the mission and Reveille matcha lattes, Wooden Cafe doesn't compete well Great service - they totally made me feel normal despite me asking many questions about the sweetness level. I felt like they were genuinely concerned and really wanted me to enjoy the drink Would come back if I was in the area, but would not go out of my way for it

Wooden is a great neighborhood coffee shop with beautiful wooden interior and great coffee. I. Have yet to try their pastries but when I went in today they had a Meyer lemon morning bun, carrot coconut almond muffin, and great looking croissants. They are still not allowing indoor seating and there aren't any options for outdoor seating so this is still just a takeout option. The only downside is the price. Even for the high price of coffee in San Francisco this is still above average. Five dollars for a small latte plus an extra dollar for any type of alternative milk. Would recommend for a good cup of coffee but I'm not a frequent visitor because of the price.

NOTE: Sorry in advance for any bird/animal lovers. Coffee and the woody decor is fine but there is a screeching bird in the back that is more than annoying, especially if you savor a quiet, relaxing morning. I'm wondering if the owners want you to simply grab your coffee and leave once the bird starts making its noises. Can't really do any computer work or even read with the bird constantly 'interrupting' you. The screeching really did hurt my ears

Stop by here to get some coffee to keep me up for my drive home back to Los Angeles. I'm not an avid coffee drinker nor am I even a great coffee connoisseur. However, I was sleepy and had a long drive ahead so why not? I asked the barista what would be a good recommendation and was patient and kind enough to explain what they had to offer on their menu. I eventually ordered 'The Thing'. I was happy with the selection and even though it had cinnamon in it, I could barely taste it. It blended really well with the caramel and their coffee. It did the job and kept me up karaoke-ing all the way back to LA. I would definitely go back and recommend this little local coffee shop to friends up in SF.

"The Thing" is the tastiest, smoothest, latte I've had in the city so far and I'm so happy I tried it! Cinnamon fall deliciousness! I've been looking for a tasty latte since I've moved here and I've finally found one! Additionally, all of the drinks my group ordered looked beautiful and seemed delicious. To top it off, the atmosphere here is beautiful in its wooden simplicity. Pro Tip: Come here while waiting for brunch at Zazie's down the street (long waits = great time to get coffee!).

I almost missed this place because of the dark color signs outside. A very simple and quiet coffee shop. They have pour-overs, drips, and cold brews at a reasonable price for the area. I ordered the pour-over which had very subtle flavors of cacao nibs, cheery, and nuts The decor and atmosphere is very welcoming and quaint/modern for meetings or doing some personal computer stuff. Very clean establishment and clean bathrooms. The bonus is that there is an African Grey parrot as their mascot haha

4.5 stars. Dinging them a bit because their drip coffee has not been very good in the past. But, I've been coming here since they opened and their espresso is among the best in the city. My husband and I also really enjoy the quirky ambience. Before COVID there used to be a parakeet in the back, we sure miss that guy! Definitely one of our favorite spots in the city.
