Veggie burger was fantastic and duck pate awesome. A little left to be desired here mainly because it didn’t have that culinary spark I look for.

Such great service and great food. With brunch reservations, 4 of us were immediately seated and served. Beverages came quickly. Questions were answered with respect and kindness, no snippy attitudes here! Orders were taken as soon as we were ready but we were not rushed. The food was delicious and the plating lovely. Everything was correctly prepared and presented to all at the same time. We were able to converse without difficulty although the place was filled with customers. The restaurant was bright, clean and cheerful. We spent 90 minutes together and were not pushed to leave quickly by staff, although others were waiting. They deserve their award for hospitality. I would definitely return here and recommend it highly!

The food was phenomenal! Excellent muscles, extraordinary Brussel sprouts. And the beet salad was to die for; I will definitely order that again! A couple of down sides... I didn't love the atmosphere. Very casual with cozy booths and tiny tables, but the noise level was difficult for me. I'd love to come back in the summer when outdoor seating reopens. Parking was challenging but the food made it all worthwhile. Thank you for a delicious meal!

Wow. This place is absolutely wonderful. Went here for the first time ever on a date with my boyfriend. The food was so delicious and seasoned to perfection. The dessert we got was divine and the service was excellent. This is a great place to go on a little fancy dinner with your partner or to have a celebratory dinner. And the drinks are made so delicious. We got lucky and actually had a table available Saturday night, but it was packed for the most part. 11/10 will go here again.

Drinks and salad were great! We ordered the burger and a tamarind pork chop special for our entrées. Both were utterly fantastic… the kind where you’re so full but just keep eating. Portions are quite generous and next time we might just do one entrée to share! Service was great too. Looking forward to going back and trying more on the menu.

Incredible folks that truly care about hospitality and the food they're slinging. The kitchen keeps the ingredients seasonal and the techniques classic. The vibes FOH match. Bartenders know their stuff and the attention to detail is unmatched at this price point. Do not skip appetizers and if you're here for bruch bring your A-game... the menu is undefeated.

We ordered so much food and absolutely everything was amazing. The staff was attentive and knowledgeable. We loved the atmosphere and the feeling of being in a corner diner while enjoying top tier food.

The food and service was amazing here! Upon entering the restaurant to greet the host in order to get patio seating ... it did have an odd smell inside & I couldn't put my finger on what that was. So I'm glad my family, that I was visiting, asked for patio seating. It was close to the dusk hour and sun was settling right onto the bench/table that was available to us. They tried to help us with the umbrella so it would shade us but it was quite the challenge. They might need a better shade set up for the front area. I got the mocktail "sunshine daydream". It was pretty good and refreshing. I also decided on the mushroom burger. It hands down was one of the best veggie burgers I've ever had. The fries portion was shareable too. I was a bit antsy because we had another event to attend to after dinner but it was worth the wait for our food to arrive. Everything tasted fresh and homemade. I'm already craving another visit to Portland ME just to eat here again!

Love this Woodford Corner neighborhood establishment. It has a funky, upscale diner feel with mood lighting and delicious food. I had come here before with my daughter and we both agreed we needed to let the rest of the family in on this great find. The cocktails are delish! We started with oysters and we ordered a beet salad, the Croque Monsieur Sandwich, the steak tartare, and the chickpeas. We ended with a brownie sundae. Our lovely waitress knew I was GF and brought out some GF cookies as well. They were delicious. I recommend this place, it's nice to come off the beaten path of downtown Portland and explore all the other wonderful places Portland has to offer.

Super fun vibe and amazing food off the beaten path in Portland. Came recently to celebrate a birthday and had a fantastic experience. The restaurant owners renovated an old Howard Johnson's and kept all the amazing mid-century modern architecture and design from that era. The staff were friendly, helpful, and a joy to interact with. The food was also amazing. Everything on the menu looked good and we were super satisfied with what we ordered. Started off with the Escarole Waldorf salad and stuffed dates. Both dishes had amazing depth of flavor. We paired these with some cocktails off the menu, the Corpse Reviver #2 and the Emergency Margarita...both extremely tasty and well made. For our dinner we got the duck and pork chop, both perfectly clocked, flavorful, and filling...paired this with a Pinot Noir. To finish the evening we ordered their chocolate pudding which was simple, nostalgic, and delicious. We also ordered a Black Oxford cocktail just cause it sounded interesting and it was. Overall a fantastic dining experience in a city know for its restaurants.

Amazing spot. The roasted oysters were unbelievable, and the cocktails were tasty and complex. We will definitely be back.

The waitstaff were on point, pleasant and accommodating to understand preferences and likes. However the vegetarian "harissa carrots" dish as described would have been better described as plate of rice with a side of carrots as only 4 split carrots appeared on a giant mound of lentil/rice/halloumi. Filling indeed but not worth $24. Veggie burger was tasty and side salad sub great. Star of our order was daughter's burger, Brussels side dish; don't bother w the crudite as the vegetable to dip ratio (and dip lacking salt) wasn't right and too small for the $12 price point. Disappointed in my last meal on Portland. Won't be back, way better options in town.

After having been to Woodford's many times, and seeing the Croque Monsier on the menu many times...I finally tried it, and it was amazing! The rust bread was crispy and crunchy, the ham was Smokey and sweet, the cheese was creamy, the bechemel was salty and creamy. It may have been the perfect sandwich. This s fork and knife sandwich...the cheese is melted on the top, and beautifully browned. It came with a nice side salad of simple greens dressed in a slightly sharp, in a good way, dressing. The sandwich was a bit too much for me...so I took half of it home and it reheated in the oven great! My friend had the burger and fries, which is excellent every time. I love how thin the fries are, and deliciously seasoned. As usual, will go back!

Interesting vibe for the food. The inside is very casual but the food is very fancy. The burger is the best thing on the menu. Everything else is great but at a high price point. I have tried a few things and they were good but some were a little out of my flavor profile. I have sat at the bar and the service was a great. They have some nice bourbons and the martinis are good too. The oyster and shrimp were also good. Might come back but for the price point will spend my money elsewhere most of the time!

Unfortunately it always seems to be a mixed bag when I come here, some good some not. In this case just popped in for a quick cocktail and an order of pate, which is always great and the reason I go back! I ordered a cosmopolitan to go along with it and frankly it was quite bad, way too much lime juice, not sure the bartender had ever made this before. Five star pate, one star Cosmo.

A good restaurant with some quirks, Woodford is still a strong option for off peninsula upscale dining. While it's certainly not a fancy restaurant, they have several menu items fighting for most expensive in Portland. The market price latkes and caviar generally range from $50-$80+. The steak frites is usually $72. And on last night's visit, there was an $85 seafood special. Words that have never been spoken: I'd rather save some cash and eat at Scales. Most of the remaining menu is far more reasonable and there are true standouts. The burger with fries ($20) is in the discussion for the best Portland burger. The deviled eggs (6 for $8) are a perfect snack, as is the steak tartare ($18). Every entree I've had (between $20-$32) is excellent. The cocktails are fantastic. The RDHK Mai Tai is the best I've ever had and redefines the drink for me. The old fashioned is also one of the better local renditions. Woodford is a trendy spot to eat and drink. Unfortunately service on this visit, while sitting at the bar, was cold and inattentive. We left before ordering more food because of this. Luckily this is not the norm. As a hip neighborhood hangout, Woodford is likely the best in the Deering area.

This place is where I fell in love with duck even more. The combination they used for both entrees we got were mouth-watering goodness. I loved each dish. They weren't afraid to give it the amount of sauce that they did. The portations and presentation were perfect. Our server was friendly and the restaurant itself is a good size for seating. The parking lot is very tiny and attached to laundry mat, but don't let that fool you. Highly recommend and will be coming back.

Although there is a private parking lot here, it needs some work. We visited after the first snowfall and it was a mess, as if a plow hadn't even touched it. In fact, a car actually got stuck while we were there. The size and angles of the parking spots make it difficult to maneuver in/out, even when it is cleared. We arrived right when the restaurant opened and it was chilly enough in there that we both left our coats on throughout the meal. Perhaps building a small breezeway would keep the cold air from rushing in every time someone opens the door? Both of these issues weren't make or break, but something to be noted. The food. Wow! We were not expecting the quality of dishes that we were served. Woodford's may have that neighborhood appeal but it's totally bringing James Beard level of cooking straight to your mouth. The pork chop (special of the day) and the duck breast entrees were both divine. The textures , the flavors, and the sauces that were all paired together were executed perfectly. Portion sizes were plentiful, making the cost of the meal well worth the ask. This isn't one of those places where you are going to leave with your wallet empty and your stomach still growling. Delicious food, fair prices, generous portions, and attentive friendly service leave me wanting to return right away. I can't wait to dive in again!

Outstanding service, ambience, and food! We hadn't been here in a while and it's as good as ever!

Feels like it has been a long time since we've been to Woodford - between COVID and my brain exploding. Today we introduced WF&B to good friends and it was awesome! I know, someday I will have something other than the burger - but not today - so very, very good. Wayne enjoyed the chicken sandwich as did our friend, another enjoyed the veggie burger. Going to WF&B today was like going to see a good friend, someone you may not have seen recently, but once you are there the comfort is tangible. Another favorite? Just ask Birch for a wine recommendation. Today it was an Anne Amie Pinot Noir Rose - light but full of body. So very, very good!

I've been here a few times and while it doesn't' totally do it for me, it's got to be great to have something like this in the hood if you live nearby as Woodfords Corner ain't happening. Today I went for brunch and the sausage breakfast sammy on a biscuit was dope, as were the home fries. The only thing about this place is the service is always a tad slow. It was probably about 15 minutes before anyone came up to us. To be fair though I was hangry AF when I walked through the door.

This restaurant is a Portland staple. You'll never go wrong with a meal here it's a great place to take friends and out of towners. The cocktails are always great as well. Their burger is one of the best in town. I always forget to take a picture of it because it's so good. Make sure to order the brussels sprouts as well. They're always on the menu and they're amazing.

Do not understand they hype, this place is a disappointment every single time! Everything on the menu tastes like way too much mustard...

Pre made Bloody Mary was good, but barely a trace of vodka, which is always the risk you take when a bar "mixed" the spirit in the back kitchen vs pouring in front of you. Eggs Florentine missed the mark, but our bartender was friendly and tried his best to move along the rambling bar flies next to us that were on mimosa # 5.

Small menu for food but good quality. Tried few from the menu and everything's yummy and delicious. The tomato salad with burrata was excellent. Crab meat is fresh Ordered bunch of cocktails all great Overall I love it ! Please make sure to have reservation because the outdoor seating are limited

A friend had mentioned in passing, "woodford food and beverage, their french toast, sunday brunch...." and we were intrigued (because the SO loves breakfast foods). We've actually come only twice in the last year but I have to say their french toast is seriously delectable. All their other food during brunch that I've tried is fantastic as well -- last time I h ages d the eggs florentine. But their french toast is really something different. It's made using a bread pudding which gives it a more custard like texture than typical french toast, has toasted mixed seeds, and is just such a delight. It's just 2 dollars pricier than I would like, but I think it's worth it for sure. I love that woodford f&b comes with a small cup of fruit for every brunch meal.

Went here last night. It was fine. The deviled eggs have entirely too much Dijon mustard in them and the smallest little piece of bacon. A little disappointing. My mussels and fries were disappointing as well. The broth was too wine-y. Not enough butter and garlic and parsley flavor. The fries were so good and so was the aioli they come with. It was a bummer especially how expensive everything on the menu is. However! I do want to go back to try their burger I hear so much about.

This is my 2nd time at this great restaurant and I was so happy to see that they have kept the food quality high and the menu inventiveness exciting. There were 4 of us in my party and we all agreed that the food was outstanding. We shared 3 appetizers - the heirloom tomato salad, the duck liver pate and the smoked trout. All were perfectly executed. The heirloom tomato was the pretty standard but the pate and the trout were perfect! They served house made potato chips with the trout and the chips were outstanding. Crispy and tasty, salted great. The main courses were likewise memorable. Fresh caught Casco Bay mussels, 2 orders of the halibut and one burger. All of us raved about the food. It was the combination of different ingredients that raised each item above the mundane. The seasoned mayo for the fries was almost a throw-away addition, almost unnoticed. But it elevated the condiment to a new level. The jasmine rice and lemon-mushroom butter was off the charts with the halibut. And the toppings for the burger layered perfection and texture on top of one another. Food is excellent. The chef is inspired and the waiter was so excited as he spoke about the food that he passed on the excitement to us! We were like little kids waiting for our birthday cake. We did, however, suffer a little bit from the change of waiters. We had a great waiter to start with. Then the manager handled our table for a while and, finally, a 3rd waiter took care of us. We were there early so I do not understand the need for the changes. This place, however, does food right! No doubt! I think the dining room atmosphere is somewhat charming, unique even. I get that it was re-purposed from its prior incarnation, and I appreciate that. But I have to say that the atmosphere does not quite match the level of food or the obvious love of cuisine from the wait staff and chef. Still, there is no doubt that I will continue to make the trek outside the downtown Portland area to get to Woodford F&B. It is definitely worth the drive!

What a find. Thank you Rachel for taking great care of us. Lynn had the Smoked Trout Mousse with Kelp Spiced Chips. I had the Croque Madame that came with a side Salad. EXCELLENT.. EXCELLENT. We split everything. The food is excellent. Great wine choices. Full bar and they have specialty cocktails that are inspirational. We will return. The Chef has talent and it really shows

Woodford's offers really good, solid comfort food at a good price. They have interesting drinks and always consistently great food. I've been many times. If you're in the area check it out.

When a restaurant has a small menu that usually means they take pride in their featured entrees - that is very true here. The mussels are tender in a great white wine and garlic sauce. The roasted chicken is juicy while the fries had an unexpected spicy kick - fennel. The setting is low key 'mid century modern' outside the peninsula of downtown Portland. Great handmade cocktails and local beer selections.

Pricy and small menu. Great drinks. Good for a crowd where you want to have a social time. Good isn't the star. Great service.

First time here! Service was delightful and the ambiance was "family comfortable". Love that it is walkable! But... The main courses were $$$$ and honestly only 3 stars. Next time we will walk for an appetizer and a beer. Cheers!

I really appreciate this place. People are super friendly, you can really taste the quality of the food. Quality and concept 100% perf Conception is at 90% You can tell they put a lot of energy into making this high quality food from fresh ingredients. Most of what I ate was superb. A few dishes didn't quite come together as well as they might have but considering they change their menu so often it's understandable that not everything gets to get fine tuned everytime. Deviled eggs where phenomenal, I've had their kimchi ones as well as horseradish and bacon. They give 6 halves which is a big serving ! The flavors really came through so well. Mac and cheese was really good! True test was that it still tasted great the next day! It's not a creamy mac and cheese, it's feels home made but with top notch ingredients. Beet salad was ok, there were great big pieces of beets, all the ingredients were fresh, the dressing was super tasty! But it didn't really feel like it came together, the escarole was a raw, so too bitter to be served in such big chunks. Shredded or cooked would have brought it a better flavor. The beets also lacked flavor and some were a little undercooked. But i enjoyed the citrus for pops of sweetness! 1/2 chicken was very tasty. Only had a bite before the other person ate it all ahaha so i don't have much to say there. Seared salmon was a nice thick cut, tasted great, accompanying sauce was very tasty. Only wish there was more of a crunch on the skin. Shrimp and grits, the shrimps were massive! Grits tasted amazing, not sure if they were grits or polenta though. Cornmeal fried okra blew me away! So tasty! Pana cotta was a new food for me so nothing to compare to but this was so good! Loved the texture and flavor. The top layer of lemon curd was an excellent pairing and the shortbread was beautifully made.

We've been going to Woodford F&B for almost 7 years. Woodford has been maturing like fine wine. We were a party of 11. Drinks were outstanding especially the emergency margarita. Appetizers were out of this world. We especially enjoyed the LATKES WITH Caviar. The mussels are fresh daily from Maine and are delicious. Salads were fresh and delicious. Shared all of the entrees. Everyone was outstanding. Owner recommended the buttermilk fried chicken sandwich. It was great as were the seasoned french fries. The house made liqueurs were fantastic. I liked the coffee liqueur best. Was an incredible meal. What made a great meal even better with friends and family was that DJ Steve made a special appearance. Be sure to ask about DJ Steve.

I'm not sure what has happened to this place but ever since the James Beard nomination, it has consistently disappointed! Everything from service to quality of food has just been very sub par! And it pains me to write this because Woodford was once our neighborhood go-to! Unfortunately, I can't say we'll be back

A fun neighborhood gastro-joint, with a side of bistro thrown in for fun! On this our first visit we stopped in for brunch. I love that they both take reservations and that they open at 10:00 to accommodate the folks that may be more in the mood for breakfast on the weekends. I will start by saying that despite the early hour we were warmly greeted and very well served by as friendly a bunch as you could ever meet. This definitely enhanced the neighborhood vibe. We started off with the deviled eggs. They were beautifully presented with delicious bits of bacon on top and so creamy. I followed this up with a Harvey Wallbanger, that was potent, delicious, and Is always served with a side of 70's cool. Since I was in the mood for sweet I then dove in to the Dulce De Leche Bread Pudding French Toast. As you would imagine It was a sweet,crunchy, rich cream, fruit, and nut covered delight! My wife on the other hand had the breakfast sandwich and it was awesome! Easily the largest sausage patty served in Portland and an absolutely delicious mix, mostly breakfast with a little bit of chorizo thrown in! Yummy! In any case we loved everything and can't wait to go back for dinner.

The crab cake was a little disappointing, but OH those stuffed dates were some of the BEST things I've ever tasted. Wow. Great service and atmosphere. We had a fabulous early dinner. Thank you!

Cool vibe. Beyond friendly and attentive managerial and waitstaff. Burger & fries a was one of the best I've had in the this town. Cool drink offerings & specials. Seasonal salad was fresh and large enough to share. Can't wait to try brunch! Update: they take brunch reservations!! Four of us for Sunday brunch. Again, I cannot stress this enough their staff is so accommodating & friendly. They went out of their way to assist us with a birthday surprise without us even asking. So sweet. Food was ok. Coffee is dynamite.

I don't post five star reviews based on a first experience, but this time I am sorely tempted. On a whim I invited my dad out for dinner and there was absolutely no parking at our first choice so having never been here, we both decided to try this place. Yelp has this Mark is three dollar signs for a reason! The cocktail I got was $15 on its own! So if you're going here the idea has to be that you want to treat yourself! Dad got the mussels and Fries while I got the tri-tip steak and fries. We started by sharing the caramelized onion dip which was divine! It comes with house-made rosemary potato chips and they're certainly more dip than chip. However, having noticed we finished the chips, the waitress offered to have more brought out for free! More chips were brought and the dip was finished I actually use my finger to clean the bowl! My dad simply loved the mussels and fries going so far as to ask for a second piece of bread to help soak up the liquor at the bottom of the dish before giving it a good Italian slurp! My tri-tip steak and fries we're very respectable. The waitress asked how I would like the steak and I told her medium rare, however the steak ended up medium well. A minor thing and not worth having a fit over, so I simply informed her so that they could know it's something to be aware of. I didn't ask for anything in compensation or a replacement meal, the waitress did offer though. The unsweetened iced tea my dad had was given a free refill, though I don't know if that's policy or simply our experience. I only had the one cocktail but it was delicious and delightful. In the end I was offered something small on the house as an apology for the steak being inadvertently overcooked. I brought something home for my husband to try since he was babysitting while I was out. High marks to the waitress for being polite and on top of her tables as well as high marks to the restaurant in general for quality food and being well-managed.

I love love love me some Woodford F&B. And what's not to love: the food is amazing, the ambiance is perfect and the owners and staff are the best! I always get the Steak and fries or the burger. The burgers been nominated for best of Portland numerous times and it doesn't disappoint! The brisket in it just makes it so amazing. And the FRIES. I love me some fries and they do them perfectly. Always crunchy and always delicious. Their cocktails and beer list are great too! I love the emergency margarita. Not too sweet and the chipotle salt rim is the best.

Maybe with the James Beard nomination my expectations were too high. I had the crabcake and the colcannon as a meal. I asked about the size of the crabcake and the waitress showed me dimensions of about an inch thick, with the diameter of a small pancake, so I thought that, with the colcannon would satisfy me. The crabcake was the size of a small beverage coaster, and not much thicker. It came broken apart, and I could see why, there wasn't much crabmeat holding it together. There were bites that I am pretty sure were nothing but the top and bottom crust. The colcannon was served piping hot, was a generous portion, and was very good. My wife had the veggie burger, and her whole plate was a disappointment. The "burger" of the veggie burger was more like a spread. There was nothing holding it together, and the bun was way too small, but that didn't matter as it fell apart as soon as my wife picked it up.There was a very generous portion of fries on the plate, but they were cold, as was her veggie burger. Seemed like the plate had been sitting around too long before being served. When asked how things were, we didn't want to list all of our disappointments, so we just mentioned the fries were cold, and I mean cold, not even warm. They brought my wife another serving of hot fries, but this one was a fraction of the size that was served with her veggie burger. Disappointing first experience, won't go back again.

Overall: good food in a quaint diner. Food: their burger is phenomenal. Maybe the best burger I've ever had. Eggs and purgatory burdened on too spicy for the entire dish but the first few bites were pleasant. Just needed something to round that flavor out so it wasn't just spicy. It's a traditional menu that I feel could use a few modern twists but it's good food and you know what you're getting.

Very pleasant dinner on the outdoor patio set up as the "Woodford Boat Club." Nothing "fancy" about the food, but fresh ingredients and bold flavors shine. Service was very accommodating and prompt. Would unquestionably come again when in the mood for a somewhat more "casual" meal.

Went back for a second try to Woodford F&B to see if my mind could be changed from my previous experience. My girlfriend and I sat at the bar during happy hour. We had the nicest bartenders, super attentive and helpful. We got two oyster shooters, which were awesome, delicious fries, and a plate of mussels, which were so/so, I wanted more broth and more flavor. This was a much better experience than my first round... but I'm still not completely sold. For me, I think the food is expensive and they are trying too hard to be the go-to place in the area. Like a teenager trying to get in with the "it" crowd. Would I go back to sit at the bar again for cocktails and tapas, absolutely!! Would I go here for a full on dinner service, probably not.

Came here with a group of five and tries almost everything on the menu. Everyone else has a whiskey cocktail--all were surprisingly sweet which I like and the hit was the oak bitters made by the owner. I had the Tempranillo which came by the carafe at $40. We tried the tuna tartare and salmon rillette appetizer specials along with deep fried Brussels--all got rave reviews. We also shared the kale Caesar like salad and the autumn salad. as is the case with so many restaurants, the mains were less amazing--we got the swordfish (probably most popular), the pork shank with white beans ( slightly disappointing because not as rich and savory as I was hoping), the veggie grain dish and the roast chicken. I never order roast chicken, but one of our party doesn't eat beef. I continue to wonder why one would order roast chicken when you can buy a rotisserie chicken at a wholesale club for $5 that's almost as good. But the food was still very good even with my quibbles. For dessert we had the vanilla panna cotta with blueberry/huckleberry compote-delicious! And the brownie sundae-meh. Coffee was delicious though! Ambience is like an upscale diner--fun and casual. Worth a visit--glad we came.

Yet another neighborhood spot that I'm KICKING myself for taking so long to try. It's one of those places that has been on my list forever, that I drive by every single day, but somehow always forgot it as an option when deciding where to eat. This Sunday though, I knew I wanted to go to a late brunch somewhere nearby and decided to check if Woodford f&b did brunch- and they sure do! From the moment I walked in I was in love. The design is reminiscent of some of my other all time favorite places in Portland (Rose Foods and HiFi donuts) in that it's the perfect mix between vintage and clean, sleek modern elements. I love the booths, giant windows, beautiful wooden ceilings and the white ceramic deer heads (plus the cool golden deer heads at the bar). The environment was so welcoming and truly visually pleasing. I was pleasantly surprised that there was no wait, really felt like this is a place where locals just stroll in for good quality food and drink without the fuss of going downtown. The menu had a brunch prix fixe option for $22, which included bottomless coffee, a cocktail and a brunch entree. We jumped at this option and for the cocktails ended up unanimously choosing the Harvey Wallbanger which was SO good... and slightly dangerous because it tastes more of orange juice than vodka, which meant I had the challenge of remembering to pace myself. We got the biscuits and sausage gravy, eggs Florentine and the dulce de leche bread pudding French toast. Every single bite of the very generous portion was pure heaven. The biscuits were light, fluffy and absolutely doused with a creamy gravy containing chunks of salty sausage and two sunny side up eggs. Breaking the yolks of those eggs and mixing that in with gravy was incredible. The eggs Florentine was also extremely creamy with a bechamel sauce that married the spinach and poached eggs in a glorious way. When you pair that with the soft focaccia bread that accompanied it- well let's just say there was nothing left to take home. To top all of this off was the French toast. Whatever you do, you HAVE to get this. It was both soft and crunchy with toppings like nuts, seeds and raisins that made it feel like it was just as good for your body as it was for your soul. With our food also came a couple bowls of fruit containing pineapple, grapefruit, blood orange and grapes- which added a nice fresh and healthy element to the meal, and made us feel less guilty indulging ourselves. My new mission, after having such a wonderful experience, is to become a regular who knows the waitstaff by name and they know mjne. With this being such a cozy neighborhood spot, I don't think I'll have any problems accomplishing this.

You know how sometimes you just get a good feeling from a person? You can't really put your finger on why, but you just like being around them? That's how I feel about Woodford A&B. I visited on a cold January evening with a friend and I couldn't have asked for a better experience. First off - the service was impeccable. I arrived before my friend and checked in with the hostess who went out of her way to make sure that we found each other. The space is understated and inviting. As others have said, there is a retro-diner-goes-upscale feel to the design is lovely. My friend and I shared a large booth by the window so we had a great view of the hustle and bustle of the busy intersection where WF&B sits. The cocktail list was on the small side, but there were more than enough choices and something tells me that if you sit at the bar, the bartender would be able to whip you up anything your heart desires. I started with a whiskey cocktail with some rosemary and my friend went for a Sex & the City classic - the cosmopolitan. Both were delicious! I had a long time to study the menu and that's why I'm so disappointed by my order. I was sure I was going to get the lamb special and at the last minute, I went for variety and ordered the beet salad, mussels and frites. They were all fine - the mussel broth was a little bitter and the beet salad was more of a beet tartar but overall is was perfectly fine. My friend ordered well and I was jealous. She enjoyed her half of the half chicken (they serve a thigh and a breast) and had still had half to take home. The desserts sounded interesting but we opted to go healthy and have tea/coffee instead. In all a great experience - I'll order better next time!

Seafood salad was great and a lot! Pate was amazing and paired with the tomato fennel soup was amazing! Great atmosphere. Just have to know to park up the street.

I really did like Woodford when they first opened, but... I don't know anymore. I'm not sure that it's become/is becoming the go-to neighborhood spot everyone had touted it would be (speaking as someone who can actually walk here). Now that its had time to settle in and go through a local's season to tourist season back to a local's season, I'm just not as besotted as I initially thought I was. What I still love: + The cocktails. Competitive prices for Portland standards and they're really, really well crafted. From speciality drinks to simple martinis, every cocktails I've tried from here has been delicious, refreshing, balanced, and worth it. + The space. I had originally described it as having a "monochromatic-1950's diner-sans kitsch-stark without being sterile-feel", which was cool and different for Portland. I still dig it. What I'm no so sure of anymore: - The food. Small portions, big prices, and it's all just okay. It seems they run out things quickly, and the vegetarian options are uninspired and unmemorable. Again maybe this is just one of those awesome places in town that's much better for people without dietary restrictions, so maybe just ignore me (I won't be offended!) and go eat the burger here - I've heard it's the best in the city! - The service. It's not bad, it's just... all over the place. At our latest trip here, while we had our water glasses refilled probably close to twenty times (no joke), the various people coming to our tables and relaying information to one another caused errors in our orders. We were wholly forgotten about at one point (minus the swooping in to fill our water glasses without a word) and then made to feel bad when we wanted to order food. And - despite asking for a specific kind of vodka for my martini - they decided to make all the martinis at the table with the same kind and charge us all the same price. That's not cool, is it? I think this is one of those places that's got two personalities: the one at the bar is much different then the one on the floor. I would absolutely come back here - for drinks, at the bar - but again, that's just me.

I've become one of these Portland townies that rarely leaves the peninsula unless I need to. I have a car, I just rarely venture past the Hannaford by the boulevard except for monthly Great Lost Bear cravings. So, it had been probably at least 6 months since I had been to Woodford F&B. I know the food is great if not a little pricey for the location, but the only thing I can ever remember about the menu is the burger. It's a damn good burger, but it is rich even on the burger spectrum and sometimes I don't want to feel over-full for 3-4 hours. Some errand brought us out this way (okay, maybe the errand was just going to Allagash but I digress), and my girlfriend was pushing hard for a lunch stop at WF&B. We did a drive-by to see there were bar seats open and then utilized the parking over at the Woodfords Club. It's a Sunday. I'm kind of feeling like I could house that burger and then just lay somewhere all day, or maybe something else equally rich, of which there were a plethora of options. Then some voice that's rarely heard guided me to their cobb salad. A cobb salad typically doesn't generate too much excitement at least if you picture the garden variety (pun not intended), but this one is something else. First awesome thing: Smoked ham AND bacon, along with avocado. You still get the hard boiled egg, tomato, and some scallion and "young greens". I could honestly not tell you the difference between young greens and middle-aged greens, but this was a professional salad. An underrated component is when they actually toss the greens in the dressing before adding the rest and serving. Every bite has their buttermilk blue cheese in it, but it's also not overwhelming. Posting a photo, and I think it's one pretty looking salad. I guess the point is that we visit WF&B so infrequently that I forgot they can take something as simple as a cobb salad and make it into beautiful and super satisfying meal.
