"Downtown St. Helena is filled with adorable stops, and this local chocolatier, where all the goodies are hand-made by a husband-and-wife duo and their daughters, is one of our favorites. Their boxes are the perfect finishing touch for a picnic lunch."

Cute chocolate shop in St. Helena. While the bonbons are not elaborately decorated, I was pleasantly surprised by the variety of dark chocolate options on offer. I particularly enjoyed the heart of darkness bonbon and my husband liked the hazelnut gianduja.

Google
Ah-amazing!!!! I received as a Mother’s Day Gift from my daughter and her boyfriend! So kind of them!! The chocolates are extraordinary!!!! You will not be disappointed!! ❤️

Google
Nice packaging. Slightly above average chocolate. Chocolates themselves were fine but need some extra texture varieties (e.g. added salt grains/nuts for a crunch). The hot chocolate is nice and it's fairly priced.

Google
When we walked in staff seemed friendly and welcomed us. It smells amazing and plenty of beautiful chocolates and a decent variety too. Only marking some stars off because our experience with the employee serving us wasn’t really personable as was with the previous customers they helped. The chocolate itself is very pleasing to the eye but slightly underwhelming in flavor for the price you pay. It was nice for the experience though.

I live in North Carolina and stumbled upon this place by pure accident. It's amazing and totally worth it. The dark truffle box is where it's at. Will continue to order from here for any special occasion and also just on a whim because wow.

Google
WONDERFUL!!! Saw them featured on a cooking channel show and had to have a smore. It’s divine. Bought dark chocolate bar with toffee and pretzels and it’s wonderful as well. 💕

Google
SO many delectibles to choose from! We stopped in during Covid after a weeknight dinner and took a 12-piece box back to our hotel. From dark and fruity to coffee/toffees and caramels, you'll NOT be disappointed. Prices are reasonable and you can choose larger boxes as well. Try the orange cream flavor!

Google
Extremely beautiful and delicious chocolates. They had a special for the weekend and we got about 20% off.

Yelp
When u walk in here you have entered chocolate heaven! OMG I have been coming here for 15 years a must every time we come. Some of the most beautifully decorated cookies dipped in chocolate you have ever seen almost dont want to eat. Everything here is awesome!

Yelp
I discovered this place recently and absolutely love it. They have wonderful fancy little chocolates that you can have boxed and they also have lots of little items prepackaged. My two favorites are the soft peanut brittle and oh my gosh their dark chocolate peanut butter cups!

Yelp
If you are a Chocolate Lover, this is a Must stop. Beautiful Chocolate Confections. A bit pricey but worth every dollar when you bite into them.! My wife and I order the 12 piece round box for $39. When we are home, sipping a glass of red wine , we treat ourselves to half a bite each and savior the flavors as they intermingle with our reds. It's always a TBO.... Taste Bud Orga-sm!!!! It's a must try stop in a quaint little town that has great restaurants as well..,

Yelp
This little chocolate shop was recommended. It is really good. However, we arrived hoping for a sample.... As most of the shops in this quaint little town of St Helena offered many samples of their unique olive oils, cheeses and balsamics. We were hoping to try just a little of the dark chocolate hot chocolate ... they were more then adamant about not letting us try anything in this shop... I broke down and bought the hot chocolate tin for Christmas. The girl behind the counter said, as I finished paying. " ok you are good to go bye!" We were so put off by this behavior. Good thing the rest of the town was warm and welcoming

Yelp
This chocolate store has been here forever and stood the test of time. They have a $4 hot chocolate which is great on a cold day. They also have a lot of interesting flavors of chocolates that you can custom pick. I remember my boyfriend buying me chocolates from this store way back when. It's a nicer upscale chocolate store.

Yelp
Woodhouse represents high-quality chocolate and is one of only a handful of chocolatiers that I regularly order from across the U.S. As is the case with most high-end chocolatiers, each piece averages $2.00 - $3.00 per. In some cases, it is absolutely worth it, while in others it is absolutely not. Woodhouse falls into the former category. Woodhouse is perhaps my second favorite maker (after Norman Love Confections in Florida). I have never had a bad piece of chocolate from them. I found every single one to be made of high quality, luxurious, and rich ingredients. These people know what they're doing; it is clearly their passion as well as their profession. While they don't make the most cutting edge and innovative flavor combinations, everything they make is superb. If your idea of chocolate is limited to the M&M Mars and Hershey's conglomerate crap made by the billions every year, you're in for something special here. Be forewarned, however, that once you try this high level of quality, it's hard to revert back to Snickers, Milky Way, Kit Kat, and the like.

Yelp
I was on my way to Napa and had a sudden craving for some chocolate, so I did a quick search online and saw this place had a lot of great reviews--had to check it out! Street parking was easy, and inside, it's super clean with all the chocolates nicely displayed (heads up, there's no seating). It's definitely on the pricier side, but hey, you're on your way to Napa anyway, and the quality looked top-notch, so I grabbed a box. My favorite was the brown butter ganache--honestly, I'd come back just to stock up on more of that flavor! The other flavors were also really refined and paired perfectly with wine. Highly recommend stopping by before your wine tasting in Napa!

Yelp
Perfect place to pick up a quick gift or grab a treat for a sweet tooth! Easy in and out with a great selection of truffles! Service was great and helpful with my flavor questions. Definitely a must stop by in St Helena.

Yelp
You won't be able to resist getting SOMETHING here. If you go, let me know how is their hot chocolate. It looked delicious.
google avatar

Megan S.

Yelp
We always stop by what house every single time we're even close to the area even if it's a little out-of-the-way. Yesterday it was super hot but I still wanted to go and see what new items they had and pick up our staples of their toffee and barks. Their unicorn bark and Galaxy bark are so fun and we always got the brown butter ganache chocolate which is so delicious. Super glad to see that they provide coolers with ice to combat the heat!

Yelp
We found this place after watching an episode of "The best thing I ever ate". Don't know how I missed this place we are Napa locals and I've been through St. Helena hundreds of times! The rumors are true.. these chocolates are fantastic! Also very impressed with the young lady behind the counter she explained all the flavors perfectly. This is a must visit place if your in Napa/St. Helena.

Yelp
It is a treat just to window shopping or spending10 minutes in the shop browsing the handmade artisan chocolate jewels in different shapes, sizes, colors, and flavors. The store is well decorated and have two huge ornate tapestries hanging on the walls. Once the in shop, you are surrounded by the sweet scent of chocolate. We had dark raspberry and classic dark truffle in the store while took Winter bark and 6-pc Milk chocolate English toffee home. My daughter really enjoyed the jewel like truffles but thought the dark raspberry is a bit on the sweeter side. The classic dark truffle's truly outstanding. We both thoroughly enjoyed the milk chocolate English toffee. It is crunchy, not overly sweet, and has a hint of browned sugary scent which adds to the depth of the flavor. The picture does not do justice to the winter bark, which shimmers and sparkles under the light. A couple in Sonoma asked us about the store when they saw us holding the bag. They sent clients gift boxes each year but never got a chance to visit the store in person. It's a memorable gift box for the receivers for sure.

Yelp
True chocolatier. Cute boutique with an incredibly delicious selection of exquisite chocolates. Friendly and helpful staff.

Yelp
Years ago my husband and I came to St Helena and tried Woodhouse chocolates. It is one of my favorite chocolate shops I have been to. Shipping is expensive and limited to cooler months of the year so I held off to come in person. When I found out I'd be traveling to this area for work, I immediately thought of Woodhouse. Thankfully the stars aligned and I was able to come on our last day here. Making up for lost time, I bought $100 worth of chocolate and would have bought more if I hadn't had just a carry on bag. The peanut butter cups are insane - crunchy and creamy peanuts in a gorgeous shell of chocolate. I also got the s'mores and they were so good. I ate one immediately and the Graham cracker was clearly house made and paired so well with the marshmallow and creamy smooth chocolate. We are slowly savoring our way through the assortment of chocolates and will eat the potato chip chocolate bar after that. I love this chocolate shop.

Yelp
This is one of my favorite places to get chocolates. I come here when I want to treat myself to some excellent tasting chocolates. I love the flavors they have. The store is clean and employees are always friendly. So glad this store survived the pandemic.

Yelp
This place is a high end charming chocolate shop. Comes off a bit pretentious, but simplistically refined. I tried the honey and the walnut individual chocolates just for a taste test and then I bought a four pack of pecan turtles for $14. Service is fast and they know their chocolate details. I would say it's a bit expensive for what the quality is but in this area most people are willing to pay. They do not have a sit down tables inside or out and there's no free Wi-Fi as it's mainly a chocolate gift shop. If you're in the area it's something that you could possibly try. I could take it or leave it.
google avatar

Tariq H.

Yelp
The staff of very friendly but the chocolate is overpriced for what you get. The cinnamon toast tasted chemically and the chocolate mint was very minty. The toasted coconut and Meyer lemon were pretty good but at 3.25 for a tiny piece of chocolate, the value just isn't there.
google avatar

Steve T.

Yelp
It's expensive but if you can afford to spend a few bucks just for a moment of tasting a nice chocolate bite, then this place is for you. Loved all their chocolates in the case that we tried. Bought a bar to bring to our wine tasting and everyone know this company and how good this chocolate is to the locals at the winery. If I am in the mood for high end chocolate again, we will stop here as its a nice treat.

Yelp
Not only does St. Helena's downtown Main Street evoke a heap of nostalgia, a smack of hippie, a wallop of frou-frou and your above average vintage clothing or jewelry store alongside an average burrito place...it houses Woodhouse Chocolate! 5 stars for being here for so very long with your high quality, delicious and every changing flavors, for making every special box of chocolates that I handpick look perfect. It makes you feel a bit less guilty for enjoying these decadent treats. They change so frequently with the special flavors that I find it hard to nail one favorite down. I do love their white chocolate and lime and am partial to their gianduja as well. I bought a mixed box of everything I like and some new flavors and took photos of the gorgeous handmade Christmas style chocolates. Enjoy! If you are visiting this is a great place to stop in and get a high-end box of chocolates as a gift or just for yourself.
google avatar

Gina G.

Yelp
My favorite chocolates anywhere! Up to $3.25 a piece now, I believe, so it is expensive but decadent. The pecan caramels are my favorite, but they have so many good ones!

Yelp
Woodhouse Chocolate is one of those fancy chocolate places that have artisan chocolate with high prices. I normally would not be in a chocolate store like this, however I had received a gift of a 4 piece chocolate box (Gooey Caramel Nut Clusters, $14 prior to tax) earlier this year. Each piece of this chocolate treat was delicious. Each bite was filled with caramel and nuts. There is just a little bit of salt on top to better enhance that chocolate and give that salty/ sweet feel. Ever since then, I decided that I would visit the Woodhouse Chocolate store in person on my next visit to Saint Helena (V. Sattui Winery is my FAVORITE winery in the Napa Valley and only come up to this part of California just for their amazing wine). Woodhouse Chocolate is located in downtown Saint Helena. When I arrived (on a Saturday), I was greeted by the employee behind the counter. Sadly this place does not provide any samples. On this particular day, Woodhouse Chocolate was giving 15% discount on all purchases due to their special sidewalk sale (only takes place about twice a year... the 1st weekend in May and in October). After browsing the small shop, I ended up purchasing: Gooey Caramel Nut Clusters, $14 prior to tax- So pricey for only 4 pieces of chocolate, but the pieces are somewhat big and I feel are truly worth the splurge once in a while. Sprinkle Bar, $8 prior to tax- I love white chocolate and also birthday flavored chocolate. This sprinkle bar married those 2 loves in 1 for me. I thought the bar was just perfect. If you like sprinkles and white chocolate, you will like this. ---------------------------- (Total= $18.70 after tax and 15% discount) Service was minimum but friendly. Granted the prices are pretty high, but considering that this is in Napa valley in a tourist area, you can see how the prices would be such. I honestly wish these prices were just a little lower, but I don't mind making a splurge every once in a while because I really like these chocolates, especially the caramel nut clusters.

Yelp
Whenever there is a chocolate shop nearby, I must try. Chocolate shops are a weakness of mine. Although I was unfamiliar with Woodhouse Chocolate, I decided to buy some for gifts and a couple to try. Unfortunately, there are no samples, but there is a wide selection of flavors to choose from. After eating the chocolates, they're definitely good, but not enough for me to return here. Pricing is what you'd expect for a nice chocolate shop. Undoubtedly, the recipients of my gifts will enjoy this product.
google avatar

Yelp
A little stuffy in terms of the employee. But hey their chocolates are delicious and very interesting flavors! Super luxurious texture and made on site. And the creativity they have wow!! Fun shapes including the 2 foot high hollow Easter eggs!!!
google avatar

holly D.

Yelp
Chocolate was fine. Nothing extraordinary. Not bad at all though. Sometimes it's as much about customer service. We bought 4 little chocolate bunnies for Easter since we are out of town. Seemed like a fun gift. I asked for 4 pieces of their ribbon to finish off the little gifts. They had numerous spools of ribbon and despite my best efforts they would not let me have any ribbon for the Easter bunny gifts. I offered to pay for the ribbon but they would not share even though we purchased a good bit of items from them. Now I regret even walking in there. Why not offer a tiny extra to a good customer that would have paid for that extra? No thanks. Not ever walking in again.

Yelp
What a great way to take Napa Valley home. Cute and well designed chocolate shop sure for my attention. Got a couple of pieces to try at home and couldn't resist the milk chocolate with potato chips. Friendly staff and offered to pack my chocolates in ice pack since it was pretty hot out.

Yelp
Visited this shop yesterday. very impressed with Christina and Amelia. They were very warm and welcoming. The chocolates are beyond description...delicious and intense flavors robed in the most wonderful dark, milk, or white chocolate!! Beautiful and delicious!! The S'mores are wonderful too. What an amazing treat to be able to visit this shop!!

Yelp
Fantastic! Received a box as a gift. Beautifully wrapped. Tastes divine. So hard to resist, so advice size up. They won't last long around any house. Love the soft buttery caramel with that hit of salt. Definitely hope to buy some more when I have more money or want to treat that special someone.
google avatar

Jafet A.

Yelp
Be prepare to soend some money here lol Handmade and local business. Great for gifts and to spoil yourself.
google avatar

Marianna F.

Yelp
These are the finest chocolates I have ever had. There is a silky texture, the right amount of crunch, a hint of salt at the finish of each bite. There are just enough of every ingredient. I live in Virginia and they are shipped from California. Everything arrives with care every time.
google avatar

Yelp
"Huge fan of chocolate" is not a strong enough description of my love for chocolates. Went here on a recommendation of a friend and I rather enjoyed it. I got a chocolate bar which was a decent size and $8. It was the marble one. The bar was tasty but not "creamy" enough for how I usually like chocolate. But the marble would go well with wine. The shop was lovely, lots of flavors to choose from and a lot of different styles of chocolates such as your standard bars, truffles behind the case, gift sets, and even small sculptures of items from what I saw. A wonderful place to pick up gifts without a doubt. The best and most surprising part was because it was a hot day, I didn't even realize that the girl who bagged my purchase also put on an ice pack inside to keep the chocolate from melting. It certainly worked! Bravo, Woodhouse! I'm a fan!

K N.

Yelp
Dry dry dry peanut butter cups....dark almond cluster w caramel....hard enough to break a tooth.....smore's had no campfire smokiness at all..marshmellow barely had any browning on top and graham cracker was DRY...sad...I guess we have to be famous to get the fresh stock....SMH
google avatar

Yelp
We made a trip to wine country and of course we stopped in for a box of candy for us. I love the nut creams, hubby the fruit flavors. We also picked up Halloween candy for the granddaughters...Adorable Chocolate Cats. Quality before quantity always. Our candy is gone, they will receive theirs on All Hallows' Eve.

Yelp
Ordered online and the chocolate arrived in great condition and taste phenomenal. Will reorder for friends and family this holiday season thank you!
google avatar

Karolina J.

Yelp
Cute little shopping that we decided to wonder inside and grab a piece of chocolate each. The chocolates are so pretty and most importantly yummy! We had the raspberry one and a caramel turtle as well.

Kristi C.

Yelp
I received a box of about 22 pieces of chocolate as a gift, and they were delicious! I shared them with my friends, so I only tried the following chocolate flavors: Brown Butter Ganache, Dulce de Leche, Meyer Lemon, and Milk Chocolate Caramel Mousse. My favorite was the Brown Butter Ganache since it was the right amount of sweetness and the flavor is unique. One of my friend's favorites was the Honey chocolate, which is on the more sweeter side. All of the chocolates are nicely designed. This is the perfect gift for any occasion!
google avatar

Yelp
If everyone took chocolate as seriously as Woodhouse, there would never have been a market for Hershey's. My bff &; I stopped by here when we were trying to get hungry for our ad hoc dinner reservation. We were trying not to eat anymore, but we were lured in by the intense window display. I had never seen chocolate taken so seriously and playfully at the same time. It was around Thanksgiving and the display showed 2 teams of turkeys playing football. If that didn't sound intense enough. They were adorned in different chocolate painted uniforms. There was a ref with a mini whistle on a woodhouse chocolate ribbon, turkey fans sitting in chocolate bleachers with flags, an advertising blimp suspended in the "sky," and even a turkey getting tackled on the field. It was intense and all made of chocolate. It was incredible. The pics don't even do it justice! Some chocolatier really went to town. Not sure if they do it every season and for their sake, I really hope the sun doesn't come out!
google avatar

Ann L.

Yelp
I agree with Conny M's review. It's the "Tiffany of chocolate." The chocolate is pretty and Expensive! The lady that helped me used tongs and put them on a dish. I don't remember if I got a box or not. I ate the chocolates very fast so I must have liked them, but 5 tiny pieces for $7.50 is too much for my cheap ass.
google avatar

Nelson Q.

Yelp
Who doesn't love CHOCOLATE? Any time we come back to Saint Helena, We like to stop in at Woodhouse for a little taste of heaven. You can purchase by the piece here, and customize your own set. There are also seasonal collections, and I even saw a set containing exotic salts, chocolate cherubs, and chocolate pumps. We haven'had any lunch yet, but I just had to get a little taste, so I got a piece of my favorite, the Brown Butter Ganache which was encased in a white chocolate fleur de lys. At $2 a pop, this was enough to satisfy my tastebuds, and we took a stroll down to Giugni's for lunch. Stop in if you're in the area, you'll be glad you did!...ALOHA!!! Yelp
Wow, just wow! The salted caramel chocolate, brown butter (or brown sugar?) White chocolate, and the pistachio ones are my all time favorite. My mouth has been watering ever since and i wish i lived closer so i can have more of these!!!! Also the staff was very friendly and helpful when i went there yesterday.
google avatar

Scott H.

Yelp
Wow. I have to say this is a pretty awesome chocolate store. Very non-intimidating. Pick up a couple of pieces and they give it to you on a napkin. Eat it right away.
google avatar

Leah S.

Yelp
I went to college in Napa County, and St Helena was where we always went to bum around and have lunch/go grocery shopping/go out. Woodhouse is hands down the best chocolate I have ever had. Ever. I think it's worth it just to drive out there solely for the chocolate. It's delicious of epic proportions. It is pricey, but honestly, I think you get what you pay for in Napa County. The best item there is the pecan caramel, I swear I could probably eat a whole box of them in one seating, and I'm super health-conscious. They're just that good.
google avatar

Ashley C.

Yelp
Hooray for fancy chocolate shops....another type of place that I enjoy going to whenever I'm in a new city! Woodhouse isn't much different than the rest though. Pricey, but you can taste the high quality in each bite of their chocolate! Well for me, one bite. I opted for the two-piece box, one for me and one for my boyfriend. They were a bit melted after a long drive home, but it tasted delicious! I had a cinnamon chocolate, which was a perfect blend, neither flavor overpowering the other. The lady behind the chocolate case was very knowledgable about each chocolate and described each flavor's taste in great detail. If the weather wasn't so terribly hot, I would have bought a whole dozen and even tried their chocolate smores treats along the wall! Hopefully I will be able to return during cooler weather :)

Yelp
"It's a magical day!"- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=M3pzH9nfHA8 That's what Woodhouse Chocolate is in downtown St. Helena, a magical place hidden in plain sight. When Woodhouse first opened, it was an intimidating, pretentious seeming place with microscopic chocolates. I felt as if I went there it would be akin to going into the French Laundry&ordering takeout. Woodhouse Chocolate has become more accessible&welcoming over the years. Yes, they're artisan chocolates, and they're worth the price. They now offer Equator cold brew coffee, along with $20 tours. The tour of their small chocolate factory is fun, friendly&informative, you learn how a screening of "Chocolat" at the Cameo across the street inspired the shop- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=692hOJq1KJE The owner gives a great hourlong tour, you learn about the nuances of chocolate (white chocolate is NOT **OFFICIALLY** chocolate), how they make different kinds, how they prepare for the holidays&special events. You enjoy samples, the owner is a jolly fellow who answers all your chocolaty questions, and if you take the tour, you get 25% off the merchandise. A real deal. I got the All Day Rose (rose wine flavored chocolate bar with rose petals&edible gold) as well as the unicorn bark- that proves that white chocolate can not only be good, but **MAGICAL.** At Woodhouse, the chocolate, the service, everything is magical. The owner, as well as the cashiers/hosts, are top notch. It IS a magical day!

Yelp
For the price of $30 for a small box of chocolate, we went with it, picking out lemon, clove & pepper, mint and some others.... very faint taste of flavor... we were unimpressed.... We went to See's and found for $12, amazing flavors and textures! We're from the NYC area and found for a third of the price, we liked the Sees chocolates better! Do yourselves a favor and do a taste test....

Yelp
First time I stayed at Embrace Calistoga I got the pleasure of trying these delicious chocolates. They were described as Godiva meets Tiffany. Truer words may never have been spoken. This time when in Calistoga, we wandered into the store. I wanted to get gifts for my friend who was good enough to live with my cats for a week and a half and our other neighbor who is always there for us. I went in and hand picked the chocolates for them and the flavor choices were fantastic! My friend who watched the kitties described them as life changing. I'm so glad I don't live down the street from them, I'd have to buy bigger pants.
google avatar

Karen B.

Yelp
Overall the chocolates here are absolutely divine. My only true complaint is that the woman was wearing one glove not two so she was touching my $30 chocolates with her bare hands!! Meh. I will be back because the chocolate is great but if you are a germaphobe beware
google avatar

Pureluxury G.

Yelp
THE BEST CHOCOLATE IVE EVER HAD PERIOD. However, they've made one critical mistake... the best chocolate bar (MILK CHOCOLATE W/ CORN FLAKES) they discontinued years ago and haven't seen in not even in small special releases! PLEASE Bring It Back!

Yelp
Take a step from downtown St. Helena into the feel of an authentic European chocolate salon. The decor is very similar to the heart of Paris, France or a side street in Lille, France. The old fashioned setting, is rich with Ivory and French Blue. They have the most exquisite array of chocolates. Not only are they little bites of heaven, their attention to detail is unparalleled. You will find each and every flavor more divine then the next. Think passion fruit, four spices, champagne, honey, ginger, mint made with fresh mint, raspberry that has a layer of raspberry jelly, brown butter and so much more. They are rich and decadent without being too overpowering. They also have several prepackaged items; chocolate bars, shortbread cookies, seasonal shaped chocolates as well as s'mores cookies that are next level yum. Their packaging is beautiful and makes a great hostess gift. We buy these chocolates for special occasions throughout the year. If they have the drinking chocolate out for sale, grab a rich cup of their warmed chocolate. The next time you are in the wine country, make sure to make time to stop in to Woodhouse to satisfy your sweet tooth. You can thank me later with a sweet treat or two.

Yelp
These guys are top notch! A+++ product and service, you can't go wrong. I called on a Sunday, which was my father's birthday, and the owner, John A., happened to answer the phone and made my dreams come true. I had been googling and calling different places for over an hour to find a tasty treat to be delivered to my dad for his birthday since I live across the country on the east coast and everywhere I called they were either not doing delivery or the order would have taken days to be created and delivered which was out of the question since I needed it delivered today, dad's birthday. Finally, I call Woodhouse Chocolate and John answers and says not only would he customize my order to my father's tastes, but he would also personally deliver it to their house, even though the shop doesn't usually offer delivery on same day orders or on sunday or whatever the case may have been. John was exceptionally nice and helpful and even added a personal funny story. My father called me and said the chocolates were simply amazing and the personal touches were truly special. I can't thank John A. and Woodhouse Chocolate enough for making this a special birthday for my father and going the extra mile to hand deliver it when I had been striking out left and right with all prior attempts with other shops. I highly recommend trying this place and will definitely be using them again in the future. Thanks again!
