That's what Woodhouse Chocolate is in downtown St. Helena, a magical place hidden in plain sight. When Woodhouse first opened, it was an intimidating, pretentious seeming place with microscopic chocolates. I felt as if I went there it would be akin to going into the French Laundry&ordering takeout.
Woodhouse Chocolate has become more accessible&welcoming over the years. Yes, they're artisan chocolates, and they're worth the price. They now offer Equator cold brew coffee, along with $20 tours. The tour of their small chocolate factory is fun, friendly&informative, you learn how a screening of "Chocolat" at the Cameo across the street inspired the shop- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=692hOJq1KJE
The owner gives a great hourlong tour, you learn about the nuances of chocolate (white chocolate is NOT **OFFICIALLY** chocolate), how they make different kinds, how they prepare for the holidays&special events. You enjoy samples, the owner is a jolly fellow who answers all your chocolaty questions, and if you take the tour, you get 25% off the merchandise. A real deal.
I got the All Day Rose (rose wine flavored chocolate bar with rose petals&edible gold) as well as the unicorn bark- that proves that white chocolate can not only be good, but **MAGICAL.**
At Woodhouse, the chocolate, the service, everything is magical. The owner, as well as the cashiers/hosts, are top notch. It IS a magical day!
