Cunningham’s passion project is Nashville’s first-ever by-the-bottle-only wine bar, pouring a rotating selection of natural and sustainable wines priced at $25 and $45 from the gorgeous 1898 Victorian mansion. One of my husband and I’s favorite places here in Nashville. The wine selection is vast, unique and inexpensive. The staff, like Hunter, make it feel like a curated experience every time. Our favorite thing to do is to go in there knowing what we’ll be having for dinner and asking them what they feel would best pair with our meal. Has been a slam dunk every time. If you want to have a sweet, romantic night without breaking the bank- go here, get your wine and have a nice dinner at home. It’ll feel magical because of the experience you had at Woodland Wine Merchant.

It was our first time going onto Woodland Wine. There was plenty of staff, but no one greeted us or offered to help us find the perfect wine. We walked around aimlessly thinking someone would offer help. We ended up not buying wine, but bought some Gin with our gift card. Unfortunately we will not be back. For a better customer experience with the most knowledgeable staff, I recommend going to Last Chance Liquors in East Nashville.

Great selection. Feels like 75% of their wines are low intervention/natty stuff. Prices feel 10-20% higher than anywhere else. NYC has better prices on the same bottles. Might be a volume issue, but be prepared to shell out $$ if you come here on the regular.

Visited here when I was on vacation. INCREDIBLE selection of normie and natural wine at all price points. Beautiful German wine section. My only gripe was that on my last trip there I spent almost 400$ on a case of wine and when I asked for a food recommendation one person recommended me “edible” sandwiches. Bro you watched my case get cashed out. You saw I have good taste 😭😭😭😭😭 that HURT

Called a ton of stores that were listed on High Wire Distilling Co's. Website. Woodland Wine Merchant was the only store that I spoke to over the phone who offered to order the botanical gin that is sourced from Charleston, SC. Within a week, I was able to pick up this new favorite gin of mine in time for my birthday!!! Why I am taking the time to review today is that it's customer service like this that deserves recognition and credit for going above and beyond. Just taking the extra step of offering to order for a customer is just darn good caring like family and southern hospitality. Hence, I will be coming back because of the customer service. It also helps they are located at Five Points and conveniently have their own dedicated parking. ⚡

From Philadelphia but get to visit Woodland wine merchant about once a quarter. Not a warehouse store, and while they have a few of the high volume retail brands - this shop focuses on specialty wines and liquors - very nice selection at most price points - lots of notes about most wines, and a knowledgeable staff who are happy help. A fun way to spend 20 mins or more to find a few new wines, and liquors.

Sitting on Woodland Street in the heart of 5 Points in East Nashville, Woodland Wine Merchant is a small, yet robust shop that specializes in all things wine with a dedication to the lesser known variety. We popped in recently in search of a specialty bottle of wine for a gift and while they did not have it in stock, they did recommend the "sluttier" friend of the wine we were after...and that is all they had to say! All the wines were well situated and displayed throughout the store in sections that made sense and for the most part, pricing was pretty good as well. I was pleasantly surprised at the price of most bottles. In addition to wine, they did have a small section of spirits, beers and add-ins/mixers. Service was solid. The owner was friendly and helpful. Overall, great local spot for the wine lover in us all!

Everyone on the East side of Nashville loves Woodland Wine. Friendly knowledgeable staff and an excellent selection of wines; many of which or from small growers in interesting regions of the world. I love going to their tastings to try new varietals. The place looks small but well laid out and lots of inventory. They also have beer and spirits. Drop in a browse around. I don't think you will leave empty handed.

While mostly wine, there is a section for spirits and cordials. Cute books and glassware suitable for gifts or beginner bars. Staff was stocking the shelves (apparently Fridays) but did ask if we needed assistance.

Beautiful, clean and orderly beer, wine and liquor shop. Of my interest was the beer selection. Colorful, original and interesting beer companies to choose from. Not the standard, but outstanding and curious flavors. ie. Chamomile flowered Belgian. It's a stand alone smaller shop with its own parking.

Great little wine store with helpful employees and a great selection. I had sent the staff an email asking if they had some various types of wines in stock (pet-nat wines and orange wines), and I received a quick response that they had several. I stopped by and an employee wandered over to ask me if I needed any help finding anything. I did, and he was helpful in pointing me in the right direction. The store is beautiful and well laid out. There were also descriptions of most of the wines. If you're looking for cheap wine, stick to the grocery store. But if you're looking to try something new, expand your wine horizons, or find a nice bottle for yourself or a gift, Woodland Wine Merchant is a great place to stop. (They also have parking!!!!)

I've always liked this wine shop! They have such a great selection of wines that you honestly might not easily come across in your average wine or liquor store. They do usually carry a few that I recognize when I walk in but I do like to browse and see what I can find. They also have a few very nice glasses and bar accessories to shop from, as well as liquors and beers as well. It's not only wine. But the wine selection is still very impressive for such a small shop. The staff has always been friendly and helpful. Love that they e opened a new location, too. Stop in if you are in the area!

Yes, yes and yes. This place is my go-to for unique wines at a great price. They have so many wonderful options and the staff is a wealth of information with great suggestions. Their have been plenty of wines I would have never even thought of trying until this place came along and opened my mind and taste buds. I only wish they'd alert me before getting rid of some of my favorites, but it's all good because they always know just what to try next!

At the dusty liquor store across the street you will buy the same or or worse thing for more or the same amount of money. Can't sing praises enough! Question: Want to try interesting wines that are handpicked by the wine staff and get a killer deal? Answer: Six for Sixty! I literally adore Woodland Wine Merchant and want to kick myself in the shins for not jumping on the "Clue-Train" sooner. Why did I even buy anywhere else? Seriously. Maybe I thought that this place was going to pricey due to the modern yet cozy vibe but that couldn't be further from the truth! You are going to have to drag me kicking and screaming to just a plain ol' liquor store after my experience. The elegant merchandising and well-edited bottles don't deter from fabulous customer service or thrifty deals that are available at my new wine mecca. I picked up bottles that were only $8 and did not stress because I already trusted the buyer here...how does that happen on a first visit? The preselected six bottles that are nestled in a travel carrier for $60 is such a great idea for those on the go and who are interested in experimenting with different brands and types. I have inhaled 2 bottles already and enjoyed them both! The normal retail price would have been $78 if I would have bought them individually so I feel the rush of knowing that I received a good deal too. For those who enjoy beer, tequila, whiskey, and anything else that could possibly bring Advils and greasy food in the morning, Woodland Wine Merchant does not disappoint. I am in love while typing this with purple stained lips and teeth. Eat your heart out liquor stores, I am now a committed woman.

This place was recommended by our waitress when we were visiting town for a good place to go grab some vino to keep at our hotel. Man was she right on the money. Beautiful building, very nice staff and great selection!! Looking for a special bottle for a gift, nice dinner - they got it. Looking for something simple to sip at home on the weekdays - got that too. If I lived in Nashville - this would be my wine shop!

I make it a point to stop here every time I visit Nashville. They have unique and more obscure wines that you don't see in every supermarket. I have found a wine from Mexico there! Their specialty food selection is a bit small but the quality is excellent. If you are a fan of high quality tin seafood check this place out.

Great selection of both wine, beer, and spirits! A few dedicated parking spots behind the building, too. If you're looking for beer advice, definitely ask for Chris. He not only brews his own but also has his finger on the pulse of what's what in the beer world. With a culinary background, he seemed to really understand the science behind what makes each beer unique (with a special love for Belgium beers) and I learned a lot just from talking to him! I also liked how they wrapped my bottle of scotch since it was a gift for a friend. #stayclassy

Though I'm a relatively broke man and don't know the fine art of wine tasting, I've been in Woodland Wines on more than one occasion. I really, really like the place. I went in earlier this week and noticed the clerk was playing Elliott Smith and Pavement over the speakers, and it was then I decided to give the place a sparkling review. As I said, I don't know a lot about wine. However, the place (without a doubt) has the largest wine selection on the East Side, and the employees are always willing to help you out if you don't know what you're doing. On the few occasions I've been into Woodland Wine Merchant, I've typically purchased liquor or high alcohol content beer, their selections of which are relatively extensive but not staggering. Due to Tennessee's pesky (and utterly nonsensical) alcohol laws, Woodland Wines can only sell beer with an exceptionally high alcohol content. This makes it my favorite place to pick up brands like Jackson's Reserve (which goes amazingly with red meat). They also have a decent selection of vodkas and tequilas, but their bourbon selection is what's really impressive. Woodland tends to have some of the higher end liquors and wines, so if you're just looking for a cheap fifth, you might want to shop somewhere else. I recommend this place for true connoisseurs of high end wine and liquors...it's just a shame my wallet won't let me shop here exclusively.

Decent collection, decent prices friendly staff. We were staying at an Airbnb in the five points. And wanted to pick up some wine to have at the house, we yelped and found this place. The parking lot was a little confusing, but all accidents were averted, so we made out way in. The vibe felt laid back and modern. The selection was very good. For a little wine shop, they had quite a few good wines. I'm spoiled living so close to Napa, I'm used to a fabulous wine selection everywhere, so most of the time when I go out of town, I'm disappointed. That was not the case here! The staff was also knowledgable about their wines. We asked to recommend a few, and they were way more concerned with what our palette would like, then what their best price point was. It was refreshing! They also have a nice alcohol selection. I was very pleased and would come back!

I am in my late 50s, bald, don't have any body art, piercings or ink or whatever tattoos are called these days, and the last time one could use the term skinny to describe me or my clothes was almost 40 years ago. You understand why I was a little skeptical when I stepped in to this East Nashville wine shop. Well, I was wrong. While appearing to be hipsters, the staff here are anything but -- they are nice, knowledgeable, and very helpful. The selections are very diverse and wide ranging despite the space. I told the person helping me that my wife and I live full-time in an RV, and I was looking for drinkable every day wines around $10 to $12 a bottle. No eyes rolled, no smirking, just "I definitely can help you with that." We walked around the shop discussing their various wines and my wife's and my wine preferences. After about 10 minutes, I had a nice selection of 3 reds and 3 white along with a box of red and a box of white. So far, every wine we have tried has been outstanding. The box white was so good, my wife made us go back today to by another one. Any time we return to Nashville, Woodland Wine Merchant will be one of our mandatory stops.

Very gorgeous place with the layout and rustic feel, but rude staff.. I asked if they carried a certain type of liquor, they just responded with no. Telling me "we have this instead" or something helpful would've been nice, but I was on my own. So I searched, found what I needed and they were very.. snooty acting. Not a fan.

3.5 This is an odd one for me. Despite finding two (actually, three) fantastic bottles of wine here... despite being close to my home... despite me not being put out that I can't make my usual beer purchases here (wine, not beer, merchant)... despite decent prices... I don't see myself becoming a regular. I know. It doesn't make sense and I don't know that I can quite put a finger on the disconnect. I've received anywhere from a pleasant to a cool reception upon each visit and the latter was the more common greeting, unfortunately. There's a certain crowd that runs this store and, perhaps, that affects the reception from behind the register? I dunno. I was never treated rudely but I was never made to feel welcome or wanted. Is disinterested a more accurate word than cool? Hmm. The store's well-organized. It's not exactly intuitive but once you get a handle on where they're going, it makes sense. The selection of bottles fits the bill. It's not a mega store so you shouldn't expect every bottle you've ever heard of to be on the shelves. BUT it's a very well-curated store and even if you can't find your favorite, you'll find a wine that you'll enjoy. Guaranteed. All these accolades and 3.5/3 stars? Yeah, I don't get it either. All I can say (write) to justify it is 'people will forget what you said, people will forget what you did, but people will never forget how you made them feel.' Maybe that's it.

This is the absolute best wine shop in the area. I knew they were there, but hadn't been in much until I took a wine class and the instructor curated all bottles from this shop. I started going in for pairings more often then, and to find some of the wines we'd tried in the store. My real love grew, though, when I created a supper club that includes wine pairings! I will go in, tell them whatever random off the wall dish I am making, and the pairing is perfect every single time! The staff is really nice and friendly, and their knowledge of wines has helped me grow and helped me perfectly compliment my dishes with just the right wine. I cannot say enough good about Woodland Wine Merchant!

I've looked all over Nashville for Allspice Dram. No one carries it. I called Woodland Wine Merchant today and had an amazing conversation with the guy who answered the phone. He was incredibly helpful! I went by a couple hours later and picked up the product I was looking for. Everyone in the store was helpful and treated me like a friend that they had known for years. This was my first time at Woodland Wine Merchant. And definitely won't be my last. I love this place!

A review from a bourbon dude who doesn't know anything about wine: One of the best liquor stores in the area. While it might be small and the name might imply that they are solely focused on wine that doesn't mean that they don't carry fine bourbons at a fair price. Considering this country and in particular our market is in the midst of a full on whiskey boom that last fact is sadly becoming an increasingly rare characteristic. As far as the selection - as mentioned it is a small store but I think the word "boutique" is a more accurate description. What you won't find here are giant aisles full of bottom shelf budget whiskeys. Instead you will find a small but respectable variety of mid to top shelf products that could satisfy even the most prolific bourbon nerd. Helping that cause the fact that throughout the year they do several personally selected private barrelings of various whiskeys from the likes of Four Roses and Buffalo Trace distilleries. The staff are some of the nicest you will find. They are very engaging and before they began to recognize me there was never a time I went that someone didn't immediately come to ask me if I needed any help. Because of the size I think they are able to give a more personal level of attention to their customers and that attention to detail is really what I love about them. For example you won't find gaudy price stickers on bottles but instead a nice price tag attached by string around the neck. Also the brown paper bags are all individually stamped with the store's logo and slogan. It's the nice little things like this about this store that really push it over the edge. "A purveyor of uncommon wine, spirits & beer." Add in "friendly" and I can't think of a better statement to summarize what makes this place great.

You will not have a better experience at a liquor or wine store anywhere in Nashville... East or West I mean, who DOESN'T love the Woodland Wine Merchant? Conveniently located in the East Nashville 5 points area, they have interesting, unique and fabulous options from $5-$8 price range and up up up... the sky is the limit Whether you want a specific type of wine to go with a particular culinary experience or you just want to try something a little outside of your typical box, each and every employee is well versed in what they have to offer their diverse clientele. CHEERS guys, I have never left unhappy. NO brainer.

The only thing I know about wine is I like white and usually pick cool named wines or shaped bottles. Really. I have no other education on the stuff! I do know that the Woodland Wine Merchant is a place I take my friends and family that come to town, as part of my 'this-is-a-nifty-shop-in-my-neighborhood'. Dark wood cool floors, cool neato font to describe every single wine, quiet, and clean. They have very affordable wines and some higher end. Cold wines and a few liquors. I really like that they will GIFT WRAP your wine and provide ribbons and tags! Right on the spot. Hooray for local business and most friends and family i bring here to 'check out' ends up buying a bottle us to drink ! Win Win!

Some friends of ours recommended going here to get some wine. its located on a corner near East Nashville. I went in looking for some specific types of wines and the guy knew which ones to suggest for my liking. He was informative and gave me options that suited my taste. Check this place out and if you have questions, ask them, they are very knowledgeable. Prices are moderate but worth it.

I'm pretty knowledgeable in wines, but their free tastings help me try new things. I try. I buy. I also love how they are participating in Craft Beer Week this week. So, beer AND wine choices make for a fully stocked bar and fridge. They keep mouths happy. Also, to be noted, the staff is super friendly and knowledgeable. I freakin' love this place. The more and more I shop here, the more I find myself only shopping here. They just have the best of the best without the rest! It's simplified and dignified and that amplifies why they stand out in the world of wine shopping in Nashville. I should write something about the wine selection (which is good) but, honestly, this place is getting five stars for the dudes behind the counter. A short story: My fiance and i just moved to Nashville. We came down in April to get a feel for neighborhoods, look at houses, etc. Found the house of our dreams, put in an offer that we weren't sure they'd accept, and walked up to the woodland wine merchant to get something to toast with. We talked to the guys a little while paying, but not long, really. Fast forward to mid-august- we've moved to east nashville, and went back in to pick up some beer on the way to a party. The guy behind the counter, as he's handing us our change, says "hey, did you end up getting that house you were talking about last time?"

Had another amazing experience here! My husband gives 4 course Kosher dinners & patrons are allowed to bring their own Kosher wine. I asked Will, the owner, if they had any Kosher wine. He quickly ordered a case of Sauv Blanc and a case of Cab-Syrah blend! They were there the next day! How awesome is that? And, since another dinner is coming up, I mentioned it to Will again & he's getting more in. We are recommending these wines for the dinner, and I hope several people go & buy some! We sure will! This is just one of the many reasons I love Woodland. I really don't ever go down the street to Weiss anymore. No offense to them, I just really love the attentive customer service, nice atmosphere, and the hand-picked selections at Woodland!

When I'm going to a friends for dinner and I want to buy a good bottle of wine, sometimes I will go here and tell them about the menu and they can help me. On the expensive side, compared to the other liquor stores in the vicinity, but it's good to spread the money around to the local merchants.

I love this place so much. Fantastic craft beer selection, huge display of wines of every variety ( including bio-dynamic and low sulfite ) and really nice selection of craft cocktail ingredients. Staff are insanely knowledgeable about every product they carry and they are also more than happy to help out and give recommendations. Always my go to when purchasing booze and beer.

I really can't find anything to complain about this place other than it not being located closer to my house. When it opened, it quickly became THE place I buy wine in East Nashville, and sometimes I even find myself trying to justify driving across town past the 8 other shops that sell wine to go here. The store is just the perfect size for its 5 Points location. They may not have the largest selection in town but I'd say they have the best variety for their size. I love the range in wines they sell here. You can get a fantastic 10 dollar bottle all the way up to one that'll run you a couple hundred bucks. Check out the little table to your right when you first walk in. Thats where they put all their specials and recommendations and I'm telling you, they showcase some awesome deals. Another cool thing about this place is that they sell a pretty nice selection of high alc. content beers. Its the best variety of any place in East Nasty, at least that I'm aware of. There's also a small selection of liquor and various mixers for sale. What puts this place over the top is its staff. These people know what they're freaking talking about! They can even rattle off the different varietals of grapes in the wine they're conversing with you about. Their knowledge is amazing and they share it with you in the most un-pretentious fashion. It is definitely one of the most laid back wine stores I've been to. If you don't have something specific in mind, ask them for a suggestion and they won't steer you wrong.

Hello $10 wines with fun dogs on the front! And they had a Yelp sticker on the door, how funny! The visuals whore in me came out again today when we stumbled upon Woodland Wine Merchant on the good old east side that, low and behold, sold the Yard Dog brand. And the white one at that! (Thanks for closing yn down, you overpriced antique store). In retrospect, the red was a little too much for me. I've never been able to handle Merlot on my palet quite honestly; I end up with a lemon face. It ended up being an excellent wine to cook with, and at ten dollars, you couldn't beat it. This place sells the red as well, so I'd say give it a roll if you need something to cook with and don't want to cry over prices. By the way, this is my first white. Emoticons can't express. If this one sits well enough with me, it will be back to the five points area to buy a white designed by a man named Johannes Hirsch (which basically translates to 'John Deer', hur hur).

This is my go to wine shop. They carry a nice selection of wines - starting around $10 a bottle. Every time I'm in here, I feel at home. Everyone that works here is eager to help you find what you're looking for or help you decide what you want when you have no idea what you're look for. The best part about coming here is you don't feel like your life is in danger like I do at the other liquor and wine shops in East Nashville. You can check out at the register and not see 15 people in line cashing their paychecks in front of you. They also have a good selection of liquors and beers. I always forget that!

Great selection. Great staff. Decent prices. As with most places, you get a 10% discount by the case. I've come across many a new wine in this place. Check out the St Francis Red (cheap AND tasty) and/or Can Blau Montsant. Makes me want to pop open a bottle now, but's it's only 11a.m!

Full disclosure: my taste in wine is usually limited to white and inexpensive. The boyfriend and I recently stopped into Woodland to expand our wine horizons. The employees here really know their stuff, and they treat you the same whether you are buying an $8 bottle or a $50 bottle. Also, like another poster said, it's one of the few eastside liquor stores where you don't feel like you have to fear for your life. Thanks to Woodland Wine Merchant I'm well on my way to becoming a wine snob.

I'll be the first to admit that I don't know a ton about wine and sometimes I pick up a bottle based on the price tag and how interesting the label is. This problem has totally been resolved since Woodland Wine Merchant came to town. Even though the selection is small, it is well-thought out and you can find a number of really good/interesting wines for decent prices (mostly $10-$20). The owner hand picks the wines and the staff is super knowledgeable - look for the guy with the long hair and struggling mustache, he is great. There's also a small selection of beers in the back. You can find some really interesting, small batch/hand crafted beers. I went in there this weekend looking for a beer to pair with some Chinese food that I was cooking, and came away with a wonderful bottle of Belgian Farmhouse style beer ($11 for a large bottle). It paired perfectly with the spicy/sweet elements of the food - and I wouldn't have even considered it if not for the staff. So, go already. It's not intimidating. Plus, you could be enjoying drinking a lot more with their help.

I like that the store is modern, neat, spaced out, and unlikely to attract the unsavory. I also like that the wines have a description next to them. I do not like the squeaky floor. It's pretty, but too squeaky. Also, customer service is hit and miss with me. I've never encountered someone who has been UNfriendly, but sometime folks who are just "whatever". I'm thinking the "6 for $60" deal might be good for the upcoming holidays for host/hostess gifts and presents... :)

I come here often enough for the staff to know exactly the extent of my winoism. The selection is great, the prices are reasonable, the shop is beautiful and the staff is friendly and knowledgeable. My favorite place to pick up a bottle of wine on the way home.
