The 38 Best Restaurants in Hong Kong - Eater

"Tsim Sha Tsui is known as a hub for Hong Kong’s Indian community, so it’s little surprise that the city’s oldest Indian vegetarian restaurant is here. Woodlands is a predominantly South Indian restaurant, meaning dosas are the name of the game, and spice fiends have been digging into these massive, crispy pancakes for almost 40 years. It was my visit after very very long time. Place is very clean, the staff is attentive and friendly. Had some food in the restaurant itself and ordered some for take away. Told them less especially less oil please but was shocked when reached home. All the three dishes were swimming in oil (would surely give heart health issues if this is consumed). Rice were extra oily and coconut chutney was sour. So almost all food we got home was waste of money.

We went to Woodlands during our trip to hongkong! This was the best Vegetarian indian meal we ate. We ended up ordering 3 again from them via food panda app. The food quality, taste, service everything was excellent. It's a little on the expensive side compared to the other local smaller indian restaurants but totally worth it. Must visit place.

Great place for an authentic Indian vegan meal, the dishes we had are surprisingly good and reasonable. Would love to come back next time! Booking is advise. Chili Panneer ($90) Indo-Chinese appetizer where crisp batter fried panned is tossed in slightly sweet, spicy, hot and tangy sauce. You can choose the level of spiciness. Masala Dosa ($75) Paper-thin Crispy pancake filled with mashed potatoes and mixed spices and served with two sauces. It’s a wow factor to bring it on a big table! Personally I like this more than Chapati. Alu Gobi Masala ($75) Whole roasted cauliflower with crispy potatoes and a mildly spiced lenti based curry. It’s a approachable for people who prefer less spicy food.

Google
An quite long time established Indian restaurant which serves purely vegetarian and vegan dishes. The restaurant is not very big and seating is a bit tight. Idly Sambar (Steamed rice cake) is quite nice when dipped with vegetables stock, and the Bonda is rich in curry flavor. Vegetable Biriyani is fried to quite dry which is similar to Chinese fried rice and is nice. Paneer Palak is quite rich in spinach flavor and match with cheese. Pineapple Lassi is very rich in yogurt but not the fruit side.

We had a lovely lunch at Woodlands restaurant. The staff were friendly and welcoming, even though they were busy; they managed to clear our table without rushing the guests. The food selection is amazing! We ordered the masala dosa, which was great, as well as alu gobi to share and pani puri. The dishes were delicious, and the portions were generous. The mango lassi was just like I remembered from the first time I tried it. To finish our meal, we enjoyed masala tea, which was a wonderful way to conclude a lovely dining experience! Overall, it was a fantastic vegetarian restaurant, and we will definitely be back!

Improvement is noted this time! The thali is served warm finally 👍 really like the chana masala and paneer masala. Also the staffs have become more attentive and polite. Please keep it up, will visit regularly.

Google
What could be better than getting home-like, vegetarian food outside of India ! I visited this place more than two times during my one week tour in hongkong. I tried Masala Dosa, Punjabi meal etc. Really food was awesome. Staff were very cooperative and the atmosphere inside the restaurant was very much like India. Location is just nearer to east Tsim Sha Tsui and easily assasible to Tuen Ma line. Surely recommended.

Yelp
The idli wasn't as good as I'd expect. It's safe to say I'm an idli snob, more because I prepare kick-ass idlis at home, so you've to really impress me on that department. Same goes for the masala of the masala dosa. The sambhar, I do a decent job as well. But hey, it's not about me :p Woodlands had good sambhar, the kind I like, with a balance of sweet sour salt, and the lentils not as liquid-y as some places. I like it a bit thick, so this was good. The thali we ordered had nicely done vegetable curries and lentils, all of them, rassam, dal, a dry potato capsicum sabzi, a vegetable kurma curry and more. The puris were crisp and soft all at the same time, and not oily. The dosas were good. As a general rule of thumb, they're the most fool-proof things you can order at a South Indian restaurant. It has to be made fresh. The uttapam was OK. Nothing bad about it. Nothing great about it either. More photos and details on blog - nycbonvivant[dot]wordpress[dot]com. Link in profile.

Yelp
The restaurant itself isn't exactly the cleanest we've been in... and the service is pretty bad too... the location is odd and it doesn't look like an attractive restaurant that you'd really want to eat in... ...so why the heck would you come here... well... the food is fabulous :-) ...I mean really fabulous... one of the best Indian meals we've had.. we had the pakoras, the korma and the masala - all tasted freshly made and were excellent... and it's all vegetarian :-) It really is a shame they don't run a vacuum cleaner round the restaurant, clean the tables up a bit, have someone wash the windows and then get the staff to be a bit more responsive... it would really be a great dining experience if they could get it to all come together... ...but don't let our moaning put you off... you won't have a 4 star overall experience, but you will come away being glad you tried it and I am sure will be surprised as we were at how good the food actually is... enjoy :-)

Yelp
Fantastic Vegetarian Food! The North India Thali was very nice. The breads were wonderful. Good service, friendly staff.

Yelp
The restaurant was hard to locate as it was inside a small shopping mall. The ambience is not that great, but the food is. Tried a hot coca cola for the first time in my life. The south Indian food varieties were all wonderful.

Yelp

Yelp
Delicious puris. Restaurant is located in a plaza in Hong kong, Kowloon , not too far from MTR. Not too complicated to find

Yelp
Woodlands used to be such a good place to eat vegetarian food. It used to be one of the few all vegetarian restaurants in HK so we used to go a lot. Nowadays there are many more choices so I am relieved that I no longer have to tolerate the awful dirty, greasy, old and tired decoration, the sticky chairs and tables. The service was never super friendly often abrupt and downright rude. The atmosphere always struck me as a mite sanctimonious and disapproving.
