On the Grid : Woodlawn Coffee & Pastry

"In many ways this cafe is the heart of the Woodlawn Triangle. Thanks to not just its espresso and pastries, but also to the soul of the place, there is no better cafe in Portland to begin an early morning. Like its sister, Firehouse Restaurant, across the street, Woodlawn exudes quality and deserves multiple visits." - Matthew Anderson

The Best Halloween Parties and Treats in Portland | Eater Portland

"I saw Woodlawn Coffee and Pastry give its sweets a spooky October makeover, with pumpkin-shaped sugar cookies, cupcakes covered in shades of orange, black, and purple, and layer cakes decorated with spiderweb and ghost designs through the 31st." - Alex Frane

VERDICT: The secret to happiness is a Great Baker 😀 Do you know all those movies you probably watched about cooking and looking at these wonderful confectionaries that make your mouth water and make your eyes light up? That's what it's like here. Adjust reminds me of those foreign films where where they spend so much attention to detail on how things look and are presented and that's exactly what I can say about the Woodlawn Cafe'. Get there early because oh Lord bungus! 😂 This place gets seriously busy!

Cute coffee shop with relaxed vibes! Great coffee and healthy yummy breakfast food. Very vegetarian friendly. The cornbread pastry was also amazing!

I’m visiting Portland from the East coast, and this cute little cafe came recommended by my Airbnb hostess. From the moment I entered though the last bite of my vegan scramble it was obvious why. I love the homey neighborhood coffee shop vibe, and the food and coffee were amazing. I’m happy that I was able to experience a piece of Portland like locals do. I only wish I could pack this coffee shop up and take it home with me!

I love this neighborhood cafe. It's warm and cozy and the food is always good. Their quiche is the best I've ever had. The only drawback is the limited seating; I hope they can expand in the near future!

Stumbled upon this gem. My partner and I enjoyed a spread of fresh pastries and coffee. It was VERY crowded.

I stopped by this cafe for the first time this week and it was a very cozy spot to get some espresso and read a book. I really enjoyed the decor and layout of the cafe, alongside the food options that they had. It also looked like they had seasonal special drinks which is always fun. Definitely recommend a stop by for all the Woodlawn residents!

The coffee and pastry like the sign indicates are good. This includes the quiches which are usually well made. The regular breakfast leaves a little to be desired, it is filling and good but nothing to write home about. The oatmeal was improved greatly with the addition of fresh cut Apple and blueberry. The interior is fantastic with wood colors and chalkboards throughout. Even the outdoor seating is great with both by the road and hidden away outdoor seating. Staff are very friendly and know their coffees and menu. The bathrooms are clean. No parking so walk to it, though there is some limited street parking. They are on a transit route.

I was hoping to enjoy this place a bit more than I did. Granted, the staff were very pleasant and the coffee and baked goods we grabbed were all good. The main issue for me was the atmosphere: the music was about %20 too loud, just enough to not let me concentrate on what I was trying to get done. Probably because the music was a bit too loud, that made people talk louder, which got a bit intrusive at times. So, while I overall liked the place, if you're bringing your laptop and plan on staying for an hour or so getting worked done... beware. You may not find it easy to concentrate. If you're just going with someone for a conversation, then you'll enjoy it! But I still want them to turn that music down a bit :)
