Nine years after the end of World War II, a family-owned pastry shop opened in Silver Spring, Maryland. Three generations later, Woodmoor Pastry Shop still opens its doors at 6:30 a.m. Tuesday through Friday and 7 a.m. on weekends. Beloved by the community, patrons that are like family walk into the small bakery surrounded by doughnuts, danishes, cookies, cakes, pies, and breads. After all these years, their slogan remains- "A quality product for a quality price."
My daughter and I went on a Thursday morning around 10 a.m. in August. Here's our experience:
1) Food: When you walk in, pastries and baked goods line the inside of glass boxes to your left, right and in front of you. Spend a few minutes to look at each item. They have it all- doughbuts, cronuts, cakes, pies, eclairs, macaroons, cookies decorated in many ways, etc.
I ordered two of the chocolate glazed doughnuts and my daughter got a raspberry macaroon. (Their macaroons are much larger than the bakeries in D.C.!) Each item was well baked and with balanced flavor and texture.
2) Service: Two women were working when we walked in. Despite a line, they managed it well. Each customer was served with efficiency and care.
3) Space: It's tiny and looks untouched from when it opened in 1954. If you grew up going to it as a child, all the memories will flood back.
4) Area: It's in the Woodmoor Shopping Center where you'll find a large parking lot and other shops like Santucci's Deli, Silver Spring Stage, and a watch shop.
