Best Restaurants Around Golden Gate Park | Eater SF

"If you’re looking for a post-park decompression session, Woods Outbound is a good place to stop just two blocks from Golden Gate Park. Try one of the brand’s beers or wines, depending on the mood, or try one of the more experimental co-ferments, such as a recent option that pairs Enobeer saison with pinot noir grapes. Google
Randomly stopped here after tacos near. Glad we did! That herbal ale was out of this world! Loved the cute little patio they had in the back with the fireplace as well.

Google
Woods beer & wine, as well as some NA options. They had some Sandy’s sandwiches for their food options when I went. Great service and laid-back vibe.

Google
Went here on a Wednesday afternoon. Place wasn't busy. Parking easy to find. Stumbled upon this place before eating. Really chill vibe. The beertender was very cool. Ordered their coffee porter and their pilsner. Head retention was very small on the pour. Didn't get much coffee in the porter. The pilsner had a slight twang on the palate. Overall, the beers were okay. Nothing great. The place was very cool. Indoor seating in a narrow building with an outside spot to drink in the back and extra seating in the front. Great service. Cool spot if you're in the neighborhood, but I wouldn't go outta my way to go.

Google
Tasty hot empanadas—especially the mushroom one, which hit the spot on a windy SF day. The outdoor seating is dog-friendly and cozy, with heaters and a fire pit for warmth. They also have an interesting beer selection and super friendly staff.

Google
Empanadas are literally better by an order of magnitude than anything I found in Santiago Chile a few years ago. Great beer all around too. Would love to go nuts supporting the business but seems a little unintentionally reckless to be burning so much gas in the extremely cute backyard fire pit even when no ones out there. And the single-use plastic cups for water seemed unnecessary, should have asked for a glass, felt a little guilty there. The next time Im back if those two issues are addressed I pledge to spend $100+ dollars. Seriously love this place, thank you for making it work in the Sunset!

Google
I just moved here and this is my favorite neighborhood beer spot. I’ve taken every visitor here. Excellent beer, wine options, and staff keep me coming back. Really cute outdoor area too.

Google
Great beer selection, fun location, etc. But what we really need to talk about? The empanadas. Absolutely exquisite. They’re all bangers but the traditional beef is absurd. Perfectly spiced, indulgently flaky and rich pastry without being heavy.

Google
Excellent west coat IPA, great highway.

Yelp
Love Woods beer but at this location, I waited inside for 25 minutes without being given the chance to order. No one was behind the bar for the first ten minutes that I was there and then after another 15 minutes of waiting I just decided to try somewhere else. Disappointing.

Yelp
I Absolutely LOVE this place. Great beer, great wine, great vibes, great people. What more could you ask for??

Yelp
Great spot for a gathering. Nice patio in the back with picnic tables and a fire pit. Great that they offer half pours and NA beverages, enjoyed the herbal ale. Will definitely return if looking for a chill spot in the sunset.

Yelp
Lovely little spot serving seasonal drafts and Empanadas. Very friendly service. Clean and cozy with some indoor and some outdoor seating. I'd totally go back when in the area for a quick bite.

Yelp
Nice little winery/brewery just a few blocks from the beach! They serve up their own beers and natural wines, and empanadas in partnership with el porteno. We came to cool off with a refreshing drink after a walk along the Great Highway. They had bar seating indoors, a parklet in the front, and then some bench seating around a fireplace in the back. We opted to sit in the back and enjoyed what felt like a small private backyard. I didn't know the wines were natural when I heard about this place, but based on their uniqueness and funk, you can definitely tell they're natural upon first sip. Not a bad thing, just don't expect your typical glass of wine here. I wasn't in a natural wine mood, so I ended up getting their hazy IPA and my boyfriend their retro pilsner. We both liked our beers and enjoyed hanging out outside. Honestly the highlight here was the empanadas. I'm not always a huge empanada girl, but these were so damn good. We got a mushroom and ham & cheese to share and both were fantastic. The mushroom one was juicy and full of flavor, and the ham & cheese was well balanced with the richness from the cheese and the saltiness from the ham, which to my surprise an delight was prosciutto (clearly I didn't read the menu well). Would come back here again for a post-walk bite and beer, and maybe a glass of wine if I were in the mood for something natural!

Yelp
Attended a bridal shower reserved at the back patio. I wish they could've cleaned up a bit but facing away from the building is a lovely tree canopy with bushes and shrubs. Loved the empanadas (ham & cheese, beef, and chicken) served warm. Beers were awesome. Super friendly place.

Yelp
Grab a hazy IPA and sit outside in the afternoon/late evening. When the sun is shining, it's fabulous!
google avatar

Madison N.

Yelp
Small wine and beer spot that has amazing empanadas (Our favorites are the ham and cheese or the mushroom!). Staff is super friendly and the place has a great ambiance. You can choose to sit inside, or outside in the parklet or the small patio with fire pit in back. Leased/well behaved dogs are allowed inside and outside.

Yelp
visited this place from a recommendation of a friend who lives in the area and said it was a great place for empanadas and drinks, and she did not disappoint they have super interesting beers and wines and absolutely delicious empanadas. I had spent a few moments trying to decide which empanada to get before the bartender let me know there was literally only one left (the champignon mushroom one), and after I ordered it the poor guys next to me got turned away when trying to order some as well we tried the local honey beer with our snack which was super interesting and fun, I would get it again for sure. the bar overall had a really nice chill relaxing vibe. if I lived in the area I could definitely see myself being a regular here grabbing an empanada and a drink!
google avatar

Yelp
Cute little place. Out close to the beach. Nice open street sitting space and friendly bar area. To eat they offer hot empanadas, a few to choose from. Good interesting beer to choose from too. Clean bathroom as well! They also have an outback area. The have an outdoor fire pit, replete with garbage cans and random rubbish. Would be much nicer if it were a little more cleaned up. Maybe consider tossing the rusty shelfs and hiding the trash bins behind a bamboo curtain so they're out of sight and out of mind.
google avatar

Jenny L.

Yelp
The bartender was GREAT and the rose was delicious but we went there because while the location is small they have outside sitting. The front heaters no longer had gas "because we are getting rid of them" but they still had their parklet set up. The back area (which is noted to have a fire pit?) wasn't open. I assume bc she was the only staff - but that wasn't told to me. We still had a nice book club meeting but probably wouldn't pick the location again.

Yelp
smooth beer. Many herbal & flower options. Bartender is v sweet. Cute shop with plants & good vibes

Yelp
Went on a hike with the pups and was looking for a place to grab some beer. Used Yelp and found this gem! Dogs allowed inside and the service was great. They answered all my questions and made great recommendations. I enjoyed every beer I tasted and can't wait to go back!

Yelp
This place is super cute and fits the vibes of the outer sunset - foggy, sleepy and charming. If you're looking for a mellow bar or a fun late afternoon activity, this is the perfect place to go. Great beer and wine selection to drink there or take home. They also have some light bites like empanadas!

Yelp
Great neighborhood place to stop in for drinks , in the area and stopped in for beer and wine , Freindly staff and fun place for drinks.

Yelp
Stopped by here for a quick drink after dinner. Great little space in the Outer Sunset to meet and chat with friends/family. They have some outdoor seating out front, ample seating inside, and a hidden little back patio as well. Nice selection of beers AND wine. Great, friendly service.

Yelp
Super stoked to see Woods in the Sunset area. Met up with a friend here for some lazy afternoon beers. Dog-friendly if you can snag a spot outside! Beers are solid, Woods always knows how to pull through with quality, variety and uniqueness. I love their selections of hazys and the serve-yourself water station on tap. Right now there's no indoor seating, at least when we went a few weeks ago...not sure if that has changed. That being said, I wish there were more outdoors seating options available besides their tiny little garden area and the 3-4 small group tables out in front. It's def tougher with a large group. I definitely like the Woods cervezeria in Mission and the heart of the city better, but at least Woods is accessible in all parts of SF. The consistency of the beers don't change regardless of what tap room you visit, but location location location y'all. Idk, this tap space feels like homey and intimate compared to their other locations. But if you're looking to get delicious SF beer after a beach day on Ocean Beach, this is your spot.
google avatar

Yelp
Found this spot on a whim when I wanted to grab some drinks with my friend that had outdoor seating. It was your typical chilly SF day but the little parklet out in front was a good enough space to feel like we had our own space. We also had the occasional MUNI running. The had a really good beer selection that appealed to the inner hipster/beer snob within me. The even had Co-Ferments which are beers that spontaneously fermented with grapes. I ended up selecting the Local Honey which was delicious and would definitely recommend that you try.

Yelp
good music, great vibes, the assortment of drinks is lovely and they're always switching it up! The bartender is sooo friendly and they always have a fun playlist goin. Empanadas are tasty , honestly zero complaints. The vibes are a 10/10

Yelp
I didn't spend enough time here to give it a real confident 4 stars, but I enjoyed myself so 4 it is. They have interesting beer for sure. I wasn't blown away by any of them, but I was impressed with their innovation and creativity. They are dog and baby friendly if you have either of those. They have a small outdoor seating area which is always a plus. It's pretty small, but wasn't very busy when I went so maybe doesn't matter. I'd like to go back and try more from the menu.
google avatar

Lexi Y.

Yelp
The bartenders here are always welcoming and considerate. I love the atmosphere it's very casual and cozy. Limited seating is the only issue. Fire pit out back with cute plants is great though!
google avatar

Brody R.

Yelp
An amazing brewery in the Sunset district. Clean and welcoming atmosphere, an added star for the dope back patio with the fire pit. The Super Cerveza and empanadas are chef's kiss, loved everything during my first time here. Big shoutout to Mel and to Woods Outbounds for great customer service and customer satisfaction.

Yelp
In some ways, I'm glad that I moved out of the Outer Sunset because the recent opening of Woods Beer Co is dangerous! Or maybe I just needed a silver lining to moving away from my amazing roommates. Anyways, we discovered this place on the way to our usual spot, Pittsburgh Pub. Unfortunately it closed earlier (10pm) than we were out that night, but we made a note for the future. After having dinner at Outlerlands, and en route to Pittsburgh, we decided to make a stop at Woods Beer Co. It was practically empty. The place looked so pristine! There were colorful fresh flowers on the counter in cute little vases, with candles next to them. We had a seat and perused the limited but sufficient menu. Apparently half the menu consists of brews available at all times. The other half consists of rotating drafts. Between the three of us, we tried almost all the beers on the menu. My roommate fell in love with the Local Honey beer, which my favorite was (of course) the Islay IPA. It's a very whiskey tasting beer. I've never tasted brews like the ones here at Woods Beer Co, which is a good thing! The bartender was explaining the history of the place and chatting with us. It made us feel at-home already, even though it's a new bar and our first time. We had just eaten, but they cater empanadas here, which my roommate and I usually eat at the Ferry Building downtown. That's awesome, considering empanadas are more filling than pretzels and nuts and not enough of a commitment to have a full-fledged kitchen. Perfect. Next time I visit my former roommates in Outer Sunset, I'll likely be back at Woods Beer Co, or even check out the other locations around the city, depending on my mood. Again, great addition to the neighborhood!

Yelp
Woods Outbound is a quaint and interesting little bar that serves up some peculiar beers. By peculiar I mean they put out some really outlandish combinations that can be a hit or miss. If you're up for trying unique beers, this is your place. The space inside is small and cozy, but there's a small patio outside too if you want some semblance of open space. I'm not going to rack my brain trying to write anything creative about this place. It's hipster, it's positively SF, and it's decent all around. Try it out once, or many times if you do enjoy what they have to offer. Me personally? I liked the beer I got (which I have forgotten what it was at this point), I was in good company, and the overall vibe was pleasant.

Yelp
I've come here a few times, and have had an ok experience which is why I've come back. Today there was someone else covering the shift and the experience was not that good.Wine and beer are great, customer service seems to need some attention. I sat at a table, opened a tab and was not once asked if I desired another drink or anything to eat.The staff seemed to be really into talking to each other rather than the guests. Pretty disappointing. Looks like I'll have to find another spot where I feel more welcomed.
google avatar

Camille L.

Yelp
I've accompanied my Zythophile husband here on two occasions, both times on sleepy Sunday afternoons. He appreciates the quality beer; I appreciate the barkeeps, both of whom have been noticeably charming and courteous given my lack of partaking in their brew. During yesterday's visit, I made myself a little picnic of what I had purchased at Other Avenues across the street, complete with chai, vegan donut, and açaí-dark-chocolate bites. None of this seemed to faze the kindly bartender. I appreciate the nostalgic sentiments of the place and the garden in the back, as well as their tiny selection of books to peruse. Definitely an Outer Sunset gem.
google avatar

Emanuel M.

Yelp
My absolute favorite tap room in the Bay Area, not only Is their location prime, but their empanadas are mind blowing. I have spent many a nights hanging here with their local honey beer, and plan to spend many more!
google avatar

Rowena H.

Yelp
How is it possible I've not reviewed these folks yet? Pre-covid times: Love the long bar to hang at, but especially the heated outdoor patio that feels like it's some kind of secret garden. Adore the empanadas--the cheese one is just full of the most ridiculously tasty, melty cheddar. I don't know if just the one is possible. The beers, available for takeout right now, are fabulous. Myself, I prefer an easy-going low abv pils, but they've a range of really great beers to try. Additional: Every staff member I've encountered has been lovely. I dearly miss going in for a drink here as it's a lovely local spot for me.
google avatar

Dyanna Q.

Yelp
The perfect addition to this beachy neighborhood, the bar is cozy and retro and the main focal point of the space. There are four main beers that stay on the menu in addition to four rotating seasonal beers. I recently tried the Mango Mint Sour which was divine (and I usually like my beers dark!) They also sell delicious (albeit pricey at $6) empanadas. My favorite is the chicken and olive, but the mushroom is a great choice for non-meat lovers.
google avatar

Yelp
A must stop if you're in the Outer Sunset or around Ocean Beach. I found the beers refreshing and perfect for a hot day like yesterday was. I didn't try the food, only the beers, and we sat in the parklet outside to people watch. It's a chill spot and I'm going back anytime I'm in the area.
google avatar

Jess G.

Yelp
I went here last night with a friend. I loved the back patio, sitting by the fire drinking the Chester Copperpot beer made me feel warm and fuzzy on different levels. We also tried the Morpho which was interesting and good. Definitely an acquired taste if you're not into herbal notes. The Mateveza IPA was also good, but I think my personal favorite was the Copperpot. I knocked a star off though because both times I went up to order a beer, I got short changed by a dollar and it was by two different bartenders. I don't know if they charge tax but even then, a full dollar...those precious dollars means a lot to a grad student. Altogether, I like the place. I would definitely go back. Next time, I'll inquire about a missing dollar if it happens again though.

Yelp
We are so happy that Woods Beer Co has come outbound to the Hinterlands! There's next to nothing out here in terms of a good pint and trust me, we locals have been waiting. The beer is good, the space is nice. I can't wait to see what they do with it! Very nice people working -- mostly Outer Sunset crew will be manning the bar from what I hear. The owner was very nice -- they seem thrilled to be in the hood and we are so happy to have them here! Good stuff!
google avatar

Yelp
This place is very cool! Had to notice from the outside, but totally worth it! Great beer, food looked good, didn't have time to get any

Yelp
Some great beer to be had here! (5/5 green stars) Woods Outbound (to use the official name) is the fifth branch of Woods Beer and a perfect spot to relax after a hike through Golden Gate Park or a trip to the beach. It's a tight space, but that's sometimes a good thing in a bar and they do also have two fair-sized tables near the window. The young chap behind the bar was very friendly and a testament to what hospitality should be. Beer: we tried 4 of them ($6-$9) and found them all to be interesting and some exceptional - for me the standout was the Local Honey ($8). We also had two empanadas ($6 ea.) - the Acelga (Swiss chard, gruyere, pine nuts) and Fugazetta (cheese and onion) - and felt that the pastry was wonderful but the fillings were a little bit disappointing. The cheese empanada was a little empty - we may have received a lemon. It's a pity, because I've had El Porteño's alfajores before at the Ferry Building and they were amazing. The beer is perhaps a touch on the pricey side - for example, $9 for their Smooch. But considering the ingredients (they put something like 10 lbs of raspberries into each barrel for that beer) I think it's not crazy. I'm giving them 5/5 "green stars" for social and environmental impact, based on these reasons: * Woods are best known for incorporating yerba mate into some of their beer. They source their mate from EcoTeas, who grow it organically, use green energy and are the first "water-neutral" tea company. * Their Morpho beer ($9 for 22 oz. bottle) is an organic herbal ale (also incorporating mate). Organic beer is fairly uncommon - some larger breweries (like New Belgium) had trouble selling theirs at the higher price point. * Their empanadas are made by El Porteño, who tend to use pretty good ingredients (mine had locally-sourced organic chard, others have Prather Ranch grass-fed beef, etc.) * Empanadas are served in a simple brown paper bag. * The beer is locally-brewed, reducing transport emissions and carbon footprint. * Woods are exploring interesting alternative ingredients for their beer, such as yams. Interested in writing green star reviews? If so, contact me! (greenstarsproject)

Yelp
I like the atmosphere here and open early. Its open, clean, small and modern. I like trying different beers here. My favorite here is local honey and retro pilsner. It's pretty chill and perfect to hang out for a few hours with small group.
google avatar

Christine M.

Yelp
Stopped here for the first time with a group of friends while waiting in line for Outerlands (I highly recommend this if you're trying to kill time). The minimalist space has an eclectic yet modern feel and was filled with bouquets of fresh cut wild flowers. It was a beautiful day out both times I went to Woods but I didn't feel like I was missing out on the good weather because the space was so bright. The beer here really speaks for itself and is the star of the show. They've got some truly unique craft beers flavored with local honeys, Yerba mate and other interesting ingredients. The menu is always changing, but every beer I've tried has been on point. The staff is super friendly and willing to let you try as many as you want. My favorite from my last visit was the Ceiling Smasher. How could you not be sold on a beer with "gummy bears" in the menu description? Needless to say, I totally tasted it!! (I think....?). I'll be back next time I'm urban hiking in the area or need a break from the beach.

Yelp
Solid beers. I loved the 2 ipas I tried. Good empanadas.. the bartender is pretty chill n let me hangout 10 minutes before the bar actually opened. This is my first time to the brewery and to this particular branch. Definitely will come back. Good vibes. No dogs allowed since this place doesn't have an outdoor seating.
google avatar

Ian V.

Yelp
Never again!!! This place looks inviting from the outside, but the moment you sit on one of the hard, too-small, too-high stools and get ignored for 5 minutes by the hipster staff, you will know you have made a mistake. Most of the beers are trying too hard with about half a dozen too many herbs infused in each one. They claim to fill growlers, but they mean they fill half growlers (32 oz.). I even offered to pay double to fill my 64 oz. growler and they refused to do it. If you have to spend time here, sit at one of tables and order the wine, otherwise, go get a kettle sour at Outerlands or go eat Cubano sandwich and get your growler filled at Seven Still Taproom.

Yelp
Sweet little spot in the Outer Sunset close to the beach! Pretty easy to get here as the N Judah stops right at the corner! Place is pretty small. Long bar and a couple of tables in the front. Has a small patio in the back that's pretty nice on a hot day! The beers are good! Love the beers at Woods! I tried the Retro Pilsner and the Morpho. The Morpho was different than I expected, tasted sweeter more of a wine flavor than beer but it was refreshing. I am looking forward to coming back again to trying the rest of the beer! I didn't get a chance to try the empanadas but they sure looked delicious!

Yelp
Wanted to find a cute spot to grab a couple drinks with a friend and saw this cute little spot on yelp! I arrived first and noticed it was fairly easy to find parking which was a plus! When I walked in, I noticed it was smaller than I had imagined but no worries as I sat at the bar. I ordered an empanada first just to snack on while I was waiting. It was delicious! Flaky on the outside and warm and melty on the inside. I got the ham and cheese one and was so good. I also ordered a beer to go along side it. As my friend came, we ordered each a glass of wine and some olives. Their olives are soooo good and paired so well with our glasses of wine. I will definitely come back as it looks like a cute place to have a day date!
google avatar

Chan L.

Yelp
Waited 5 minutes to get the attention of the bartenders, and even then they helped someone who went to the bar after me. Edwin McCain looking bartender was shady and didn't pour the Islay I ordered to the rim. $9 and couldn't pour it to the rim. Place wasn't packed and nice setting... Beer was decent but the rating is for the customer service...or lack thereof.
google avatar

Chamila A.

Yelp
We discovered this place in our search for food after a long day at Ocean Beach. Very relaxed and quaint, it was a great find! The drink options were very diverse, and the service was great! Despite the crowd picking up right when we arrived, the bartender took some time to give us drinks samples and help us pick drinks. I ordered the Morpho, which I loved! I wasn't crazy about the food (I got tacos, which are ordered and made outdoors in the back). That's the only thing deterring me from giving 5 stars. Wish I had tried the empanadas, as recommended by some other reviews.

Yelp
So happy more little breweries/bars like this is popping up in the Outer Sunset. Need more nice places like this to hang out with friends. Had the pleasure of visiting today, they were open for Memorial Day. I had the carne empanada and my friends tried the beers. I had a sip of Morpho, a red colored brew with hint of Bay Leaf and my friend had the Tropical Wheat. Morpho = yummy, light. Tropical Wheat = quite hoppy, I definitely enjoyed this. I can call it Blue Moon's cooler and more likable cousin. Empanada was generously-sized, warm, and buttery. Will return!
google avatar

Nick H.

Yelp
Smoke flavored beer is my favorite, but they have it in an Ale, not just a stout or porter. The Saisons they had were great and I am definitely coming back. Speaking from a branding perspective, they nailed it. Great logo, coasters, Hygge feel.
google avatar

Mary V.

Yelp
Such a cute space! Great service and unique, delicious beverages. I loved the outside fire table (?) - there might be a more accurate term for this but it's all I've got ‍
google avatar

Melanie M.

Yelp
I really like this hidden gem. I say hidden because with their lack of signage I literally passed right by it one night and had to circle back. Their beers are pretty good, the music had me dancing in my seat, and the outdoor patio with a fire pit was perfect on a cold October night. The only reason this place doesn't deserve 5 stars is because of the lighting which was so dim I could barely read the menu. It's also quite small so i'd assume on a weekend night it would be kind of cramped. Overall, a nice place to grab a quick drink with friends.

Abigail D.

Yelp
The Local Honey beer is da bomb! Love most of them except the ones with a lot of herbs.

Steve P.

Yelp
Stars don't matter. People do. I never met Jim Woods but I respect what he and his team is doing. It's different. Ballsy. Certainly not formula or brew pub 101. Not for everyone but everyone is welcome. It's a neighborhood place with a bohemian vibe. Well behaved kids and dogs are welcomed. Chill. Relax. Enjoy something unique. If you like it come back. If not then don't. But don't hate on it. Respect the craft and move on and go have a Coors Light at Beach Chalet.
