Best Restaurants Near Inglewood’s SoFi Stadium | Eater LA

"To find Woody’s Bar-B-Que just look for the smoke stack emanating from the Inglewood location, which is one mile away from So-Fi. Cooks use brick ovens with oak wood for the hot links, ribs, sliced beef, and chicken. The classic sides are always necessary, including mac and cheese, beans, greens, cornbread, and arguably some of the city’s best potato salad. There’s also a small but charming patio available for seating." - Mona Holmes

The 10 Best Dishes to Eat in Inglewood | Eater LA

"At Woody’s Bar-B-Que the small Inglewood location continues a roughly 45-year tradition of South LA smoked-meat cooking, turning out heavily sauced ribs, hot links, and loads of chicken with Southern sides like cornbread and greens; the plates are packed to the brim and you shouldn’t skip the extra-sweet desserts." - Eater Staff

Woody Phillips, Founder of LA’s Woody’s Bar-B-Cue, Has Died  - Eater LA

"Woody's Bar-B-Cue, founded by Woody Phillips in 1975, is an influential restaurant in Los Angeles known for its barbecue prepared on brick ovens with oak wood. Woody's BBQ has a signature smoky flavor and sauce that is appreciated by generations of locals. It has been described by the late LA Times critic Jonathan Gold as "worth that wait for the crusty pork ribs spurting with juice; thick, blackened hot link sausages; chewy, meaty little rib tips; fancy-tasting smoked chicken and charred slices of well-done brisket." - Mona Holmes

I've been driving by this place for decades and finally decided to stop by and give it a try. I was disappointed in every respect. The chicken was dry and tasted terrible after I rinsed off all the barbecue sauce. I rinse off all the barbecue sauce because there was way too much, and it was way too sweet. My wife had the steak, she said it was okay, not terrible, but again, just slathered in super sweet barbecue sauce. The coleslaw wasn't even remotely fresh, didn't taste very good, and baked beans and potato salad, guess what? Tons of sugar and way too sweet. If you like all of your food to taste super sweet, maybe this place wouldn't be so bad. But I've been to many barbecues, and this has got to be the worst one. I hate to write such a bad review but this place is popular and I just don't understand why. Oh, and they totally forgot the chicken sandwich we ordered And paid for. I considered it a stroke of luck. I wouldn't want my family to eat another bite of this food.

Google
The quality of the brisket is good and the beans taste fine. I would like the brisket to have more seasoning, but I rather taste this than have the brisket be too salty. I got the mild sauce on it and I forgot it was supposed to be spicy so I look forward to trying a different sauce and the other meats the shop is offering. The lady taking orders is sweet and they use a PA system that most take out places should use. If you know what you would like I recommend calling in advance since there will most likely be lines and parking is limited.

Google
Casual, “bang for your buck” BBQ place in a very limited space. Texture ain’t the best, but still tasteful imo and very affordable for the serving size. I recommend getting the baked beans, potato salad, and peach cobbler! The staff here is consistently busy - so please be patient w/ them! The gals who took our order and called out our order were very courteous. Thank you for your hard work 🙏 Will come back again for the ribs when I’m in the area :)

Google
This was my first time eating at Woody's Bar-B-Que. I ordered food for three people. After eating I asked everyone how was the food on a scale from 1-10? I said (5) the other two people said (6). The white bread had a bad smell, Mac n cheese was too salty didn't have a good taste, potato salad was good, and BBQ ribs and sauce was very tasty, the peach cobbler taste was not good had no crust on it, peaches taste bad. I was hoping for a good home taste cobbler for dessert The workers were nice and outside patio was clean.

Google
Honestly I haven't tried their food. I drove by and waited at the light and smelled their food. If it smells that good from across the street it's going to be good. As soon as my next day off I am going to take my girls. I know it's going to be fire. Will update then. It looks great from the outside too.

Google
Amazing food family owned since 1975. There's no improvement on perfection. It doesn't matter what you get off the menu. It's all going to hit! If you're anywhere near Woody's you have to go! Whatever you do do not get the banana pudding. I am sitting in my car eating seconds as I write this review!

Google
This food is trash 🗑️. Terrible . Low quality meat. Ribs were full of fat. Beef link was like a sponge. Cheap. Entirely way too much sauce . Potato salad was warm. Link sandwich came with 4 slices of bleached white bread. First time here in over 40 years . Dissatisfied ten times over. Gotta do better in the black community.

Google
I was very disappointed with my recent experience at this business. I ordered a takeaway meal and was served the wrong order. Mistakes happen, and I understand that, but what truly bothered me was the manager’s response when I reached out. Instead of showing any empathy or offering a simple apology, the manager immediately quoted the return policy. There was no acknowledgment of the inconvenience or the fact that my dinner was completely wrong. A simple “I’m sorry for the mix-up” would have gone a long way. Unfortunately, this kind of customer service left a bad impression, and the fact that she talked over me on the phone made matters worse. The encounter even reminded me of a negative experience I once had with a selfish person in my past. While this won’t stop me from patronizing this outlet entirely, I sincerely hope I don’t have to deal with this manager again and that she doesn’t handle my food. The least anyone can do is show some humanity. Please do better. You have no idea how far I travel just to support this business. Be better!

Yelp
I love woodys! Ketchup sauce drenched on everything. Bring it! Wish you could order online or over the phone. The wait can be exceedingly long.

Yelp
I came here Tuesday July 8th and ordered the Rip Tip Dinner w/potato salad & bbq beans. Also, a side order of greens w/cornbread...For dessert I wanted peach cobbler however they were out so I got the banana pudding.. The Rip Tips were fresh and had just been cut for there were folk who had already ordered and they were waiting for them so I got there just in time... My side orders were ok...The cornbread muffin crumbled do it wasn't too fresh...The banana pudding was alright... Overall, I give it a 3.7*...

Yelp
If I could give zero stars, I would. My experience with Woody's was completely unacceptable. Last week, they messed up my order and told me I could come back and have it remade. I returned as instructed, only to be told by a rude and unprofessional woman that they wouldn't honor what they previously said. To make matters worse, she was openly disrespectful not only to me but to her own staff. She actually told her worker that they would have to pay for remaking my order who is always so kind and respectful. The only reason I paid again was because I didn't want to see an employee punished for a mistake the business made. What makes this even more disappointing is that Woody's is a Black owned business. It's truly a shame to see a Black business operate this way with no accountability, no consistency, and no respect for its customers or employees. We should be lifting each other up, not tearing each other down with bad service and bad attitudes. I won't be back and I wouldn't recommend this place to anyone who values honesty or professionalism.

Yelp
Inglewoods finest. You can never go wrong with some spicy beef slices, all time favorite. Service is always in point, staff is friendly attentive. Definitely would recommend if you are in the neighborhood
google avatar

Frankie G.

Yelp
The chicken was nice and tender not dry at all. The sauce here has a sauce here has a sweeter taste than the other Woodys. The waitress Tina was very friendly and helpful she even told me I can mix the hot barbecue sauce to lighten the spice. The relaxing ambiance of the old school music playing with this food brings you back to family cookouts.
google avatar

Marty M.

Yelp
Great Traditional Old School BBQ Restaurant! Great location but go early cause parking is limited. There's parking nearby but you might have to walk a little.Great Food! I highly recommend it! Reasonable prices and well worth the wait! The staff is friendly and helpful! I love the BBQ dry with the sauce on the side. You can taste the lovely smoke! Once you eat here. You'll definitely come back for more!
google avatar

Yelp
You receive a lot of meat and 2 sides for $20. I got sliced beef and beef link. The meat was smothered in BBQ sauce. A ton of BBQ sauce. Soaked. The spicy BBQ sauce gave me acid reflux. I enjoyed the slice meat. It had a nice smoky flavor. The beef link tasted weird. Interesting texture. It was either cooked too long or soaked in BBQ sauce too long. I didn't care for it. I did enjoy the Mac salad and the coleslaw. I was turned off with the atmosphere and ambiance. I did not care for the Obama photo on the wall. Not sure I would return. It didn't wow me sadly.
google avatar

Alex S.

Yelp
Sliced beef if great. Lots of sauce and lots of meat so one order can take care of your appetite. Location will bring you in with not only the sight of the smoke but the smell of it as well. The smell just draws you in when you're craving BBQ and didn't know
google avatar

Joey M.

Yelp
Was looking for something to eat before the game and came across this place and decided to give it a try. Everything we ordered was good but definitely would like to try with the sauce on the side but still loved the chicken links n beef slices n coleslaw was fire

Yelp
It's been a while since I stopped by Woody's Bar-B-Que in Inglewood, so I had to make a visit. Happy to say the food is still top-notch! The best part? That rich smoke coming from the pit, letting you know the ribs are done right. I went all in with pork ribs, rib tips, beef ribs, potato salad, beans, and their spicy sauce--every bite was worth it. The spot has that same cool atmosphere, indoor and outdoor seating, and solid service. Always crowded, but that just means it's the real deal.

D D.

Yelp
Picked up a large order of Beef Ribs, Sliced Beef, Beef Links, Pork Ribs, Rib Tips, and Chicken on yesterday. All the meats were delicious!! Picked up the order around noon, took it east to Riverside County where it had the chance to sit for about 4 to 5 hours, including drive time. I believe the sitting time makes a difference because whenever I buy a single order for myself, go home and eat immediately, it doesn't seem to be as good. Outside the spot is always clean. Service was good, order was brought out to my car.
google avatar

Yelp
Decent cheap BBQ to eat before a show at the forum/sofi. Don't expect the highest quality, but if you're like me, you don't mind your beef ribs with some chew on that bone. The long lines and slow service are another variable to consider. Apparently, the presence of law enforcement had had upset the fragile sensibilities of some patron. She kind of caused a disturbance but neverthless: The beef ribs aren't half bad. Like I said, they're extremely chewy. The ribs are sauced up to the brim to cover the lack of any meaningful seasoning or smokiness of the meats (or lackof thereof). the two beef ribs come with potato salad. Potato salad however, tastes store bought, or rather grocery bought. For 13 bucks it gets the job done.

Kevin G.

Yelp
This is how businesses do you in Cali. Particularly our black owned businesses. As soon as they need money, they hop on IG and TikTok begging for money i.e. Dulan's; M&Ms and The Serving Spoon just to name a few. I ordered a chicken dinner today and these are my two sides. I'm not 6 years old! I'm a grown man, and I want grown man portions. We should all boycott until they stop playing with us. Shrink inflation!
google avatar

jessica r.

Yelp
This place has no customer service . Make sure u read your order several times so they won't get it wrong . They messed up my order and didn't even have sympathy enough to compensate . It's annoying because it's a black owned business and I want them to be better at what they provide as customer service and to take accountability . Won't be back ! Do better woodys !
google avatar

Yelp
It was good but it was a lot of fat and bones. For my sandwich but the macaroni, & bbq beans were good. And my peach cobbler was good. My dad loved his RTD and he gave me his Beans. We got there fast and are order in like 30 mins on a Saturday not bad.But great personality of the young lady with the Dreadlocks. I recommend this place.
google avatar

Yelp
Food was good. I was in need small meal BBQ beef sandwiches on a bun & small side hit the spot for 10 bucks , the lady that took my order was very nice receipt says her name. Is. Tina ,,outside was clean nice lil ocean breeze

Yelp
Woodys Barbecue is the best in L.A. No offense to my OC residents, but we cannot get the same good Barbecue in Orange County. The ribs were falling off of my plate, and the Potato Salad is FIRE. The wait was long for us, but it was well worth it coming all the way from Orange County.
google avatar

Jer-rod J.

Yelp
Just like home cooked BBQ! You can't beat the quality, Flavor & Taste!!! Prices are right as Well! When I'm in LA I have to stop by!
google avatar

Eve J.

Yelp
I live in Vegas, but when I go to LA, I don't come back without my Woody's!!! Vegas bbq, sucks so bad!!!

Angela D.

Yelp
This is for the Woodys on Market St. The lady that answers the phone for to-go orders is RUDE! Very sarcastic for absolutely no reason! I had to cancel my order and order elsewhere!!
google avatar

Denise J.

Yelp
I haven't had them in about ten years when I decided to stop by on a random day. The brisket and rib tips were good. The ribs were a bit dry. The sides were small and not good. I would only return for meats only. They are a bit expensive as well. Parking lot is tiny.
google avatar

Linda A.

Yelp
Service is quick staff always friendly Food always on point I get the 2 meat combo links and beef My husband prefers rib tips Food always flavorful no complaints Place is clean parking available Recommend this place
google avatar

Montoya H.

Yelp
Woody's use to be good. I'm so disappointed in the quality of there meats. The barbecue sauce is nasty, the sides are nasty, and the meat is dry. I 1000% do not recommend eating here. Save your money.
google avatar

Emanuel T.

Yelp
I went to get some stuff for the Fourth of July because our HOA won't let us use grills anymore because of the insurance company. Drove to Inglewood (22mi) and got hooked up by TINA and I was In and out whit' no problems. Good person and she deserves ah raise! And to the people who gives one star you don't have to come back just wait for the Mc Rib samich and git' yo' grub on! I usually go to the one down the street from my aunt on 75th St. a.k.a. the old Mr. Jim's spot but I had to hit it and quit it so Inglewood was closer.

Pat L.

Yelp
BBQ is normally on point unless it's a Sunday and then it's a big gamble. My Sunday pickups have been hit and miss which makes me believe it's leftover from Saturday and they try and recook it. My beef was burned and no meat. When I tried to take it back a day later the manager wouldn't replace it. But if it's a good day it's really really good.
google avatar

Nicole B.

Yelp
Hands down the best bbq in L.A. no shade to Bludso's which is totally decent but whatever is in their sauce is addictive. It's hot for those that don't like spicy sauce. Sometimes there's a wait and one of the locations is cash only but these are all signs of a place with great food.
google avatar

Deidta G.

Yelp
Went today day before memorial day to get my meat Woodys is losing its grip shit be tough they need to get into tenderness small ened slab $30 tough then yo corns on yo toes him n Phillips oh well wish I can do my self I did side but no meat
google avatar

D'juan C.

Yelp
This is definitely my favorite barbecue place in Los Angeles. Although the owner is a jerk, I love this place. The hot barbecue sauce is exactly what I want when I ask for spicy barbecue sauce. My favorite here are the rib tips and the small ends. My only complaint is they used to have really good chicken and beef links. I say about three months ago they changed vendors and the new links both chicken and beef are horrible. The place has been recently remodeled so it looks really cool. I definitely recommend this place. I probably go here once a week.
google avatar

Bill P.

Yelp
Amazing BBQ, busy but still friendly. Some indoor seating , outside tables. Smooth jazz playing. If you smell it you'll be pulling in for some amazing food.

Brenda W.

Yelp
I went on Memorial Day / the line was long but it was well worth the wait!!! Everything I ordered was delicious - - the sides were amazing - I tried all of them!!!! - The barbecue was tender and very tasty - w/o a doubt I will b back!! Ms.

Edgar G.

Yelp
It was nasty I don't recommend it to no one save ur money and go to jack in the box instead. The food was soaked in bbq sauce that teast sour the hot links were not even hot links it was chorizo potato salad was store bought. The beens teast like sh***! The Mac and cheese was not even good nasty STAY AWAY
google avatar

Kimberly A.

Yelp
Now, Woody's is the classic staple bbq food chain you'd think to go to if you've got a hankering for bbq but you don't know what else is around or you find yourself lacking in an adventurous spirit. You'll find homely and cozy dejavú type service experience similar to a backyard bbq. Rib dinner with spicy bbq sauce, extra sauce on the side for later, and sweet potato pie. Can't go wrong.
google avatar

Sharon B.

Yelp
Very tasteful flavorful food! Had the rib tips and chicken. Both were juicy and soft with lots of sauce. We very much enjoyed this place!
google avatar

Prinxe T.

Yelp
To start this off IM A AFRICAN AMERICAN!!!! This is a AFRICAN AMERICAN OWNED BUSINESS, When I say I'm highly disappointed in this Los Angeles staple! The Mac and cheese was HORRIBLE! When I told the manager the food was nasty she simply gave me a she's sorry and didn't attempt to make it better, or even compensate me for the $63.00 tab that I just spent, or even offer me a return, just no customer courtesy!!! The rib tips were under cooked and fatty!! . I was expecting to get a real bbq treatment with some soul and touch but this wasn't it at all! I threw everything away in front of the manager! I'm told to go to the original but this honestly made me not EVER WANT TO GO TO WOODYS. No location anywhere!!!!
google avatar

Cynthia H.

Yelp
Overall the BBQ isn't bad. The pork ribs have been very tender each time I've gone. If you ask for your BBQ sauce on the side, they charge you .35 cents. Next time I plan to try with no sauce as I've noticed the BBQ sauce doesn't always taste the same. On my most recent visit the sauce had too much vinegar and also left the BBQ sauce almost watery and thin. And if you order the pork sandwich, you can expect to receive four ribs and two slices of white bread. I was disappointed with the peach cobbler as it was very soggy. The beans were good on one visit but too tomato-ey on the next. Mac and Cheese was somewhat dry but tolerable. Woody's would reach next level if they were consistent but in the meantime they'll do for now.
google avatar

Christian B.

Yelp
Just say you close at 5pm. It's super misleading that you close at 6pm. People pull up to order and yall say you're closed how are we supposed to know yall closed an hour early. Good business is saying last order is at 4pm. SMH. Update your hours
google avatar

Michael G.

Yelp
Fire!!!!!!!!!!! 1/2 pound rib tips 10 bucks Lunch specials and always fresh you can't miss with them I eat this 1 time a week damn near

Yelp
Last week, I was at the Post Office on Market Street in Inglewood, and I noticed there was a crowd across the street at Woody's barbecue off of LaBrea. Started having craving for it. Went a week later on the evening of 12-30-2024 (Monday night). The 1st thing I noticed was how small the side of potato salad and beans were. I said ok, I know everyone is downsizing due to the economy. I tasted the white bread, which had a nice sweet taste to it. There was a lot of sauce on the BBQ, and I liked the flavor. However, my pork ribs were very tough. I never had ribs so tough. I stopped after the 3rd one. I asked, "ALEXA, why are my ribs tough? She told me they were undercooked. Yuck!!!! Now in order to have peace of mind I must re-cook the remaining 2 ribs

Billy T.

Yelp
I recall, as it was not long ago, when the Bar-B-Que at Woody's was exceptional and well-worth driving 80 miles there and back to Antelope Valley. Well, those days are long gone. The quality is no longer there. The ribs were tough, and the potato salad left a lot to be desired. Rather than drive that distance ever again, I will cook my own ribs.

Jacob H.

Yelp
Be careful the worst barbecue beef ribs ever Internet, advertise prices does not match the store price

Gerald W.

Yelp
I ordered beef ribs at this place today. I would never come back again and I would not recommend it terrible. The meat still stuck on the bone. This is the toughest beef ribs I've ever had in my life. You can tell that they don't care about their customers at all. I could barely get the meat off with a knife rushing just to make money. This is some stuff that I had to feed my dogs with this place used to be OK years ago, but you can tell they don't care anybody serve meat that tough makes no sense
google avatar

Grace C.

Yelp
Waited in line for about 20 mins or so, ordered the small platter because it had almost a sample of all the meats in it. Rib tips and the sliced beef was the best! Pork ribs were good , I've had better but they were good. The hot links are very very hot! I mike spicy so it didn't bother me. The chicken was dry over cooked. The sides which was potato salad and baked beans were basic , nothing special about the sides.' Woodys is good, but I've been to better bbq places. Z
google avatar

Guy D.

Yelp
Great food & service. Ordinarily, I've gone there on a weekend, stand in a long line to place my order, then wait as long as 20 minutes. All n all, a 50 minute or more adventure. But my fiancee and I went there this weekend and we were done in 30 minutes, including eating there. But something to think about fellow customers, if the line and/or wait is long, then it must be good food and cooks.

Marsha M.

Yelp
Order the combo ribs were ok chicken ok sides were horrible paid extra for mac an cheese powder cheese not mix add all only tasted powdered or dried cheese potato salad runny ate there before was as 4.5 this time can't leave a rating kinda of disappointed 30.00 dinner
google avatar

J-nil P.

Yelp
At this point in the game they just never miss . They're amazing. I went to a celebrity chef bbq whose well known but "Woody's hit different
google avatar

matt h.

Yelp
I moved to Inglewood back in 2023 and feel very lucky to have Woody's here. I haven't even bothered trying any of the other barbecue spots around here. If you're having a craving for barbecue, you gotta try it. It's hard to miss, right on La Brea. if you happen to catch the lunch menu hours you can get a massive "beef in a basket" sandwich that fills you to the brim, comes with a side for under $10! great spot! A+
google avatar

Johnny W.

Yelp
The food here wasn't good at all. Taste like they had the food been sitting the sides was small I had the best brisket with a leg with spicy bbq meat didn't have any flavor the Mac n cheese was dry no flavor. The potatoes salad wasn't homemade it was the store brought Resers.
google avatar

Linda W.

Yelp
3 strikes. The last three times , including today, the food has been subpar. The food is not fully cooked therefore it is very tough. I've had to put in oven to fully cook PORK and it does not taste the same. I'm not going to cut all Woodys off but I will not return to the one in Inglewood.

Sophia M.

Yelp
I'm very disappointed in the food. I purchased almost $80 in ribs and rib tips. The ribs were so tough. It felt like I was chewing on a belt dipped in barbecue sauce. The staff was unfriendly. Everyone looks sad even the cashier the guy who took my money didn't smile say how are you? Have a good day after I left. The ambience standard barbecue type hole in the wall. They have potential but when you're putting out food just because it's brown and color does not mean it's done. I'm really disappointed And the cost of food today is such a way to have to throw it out.
