Google
This place is a nice laid back spot to sit outside and enjoy on a warm summer day. The attitude is laid back but not in a way that means flaky service. The Catfish sandwich was excellent, perfectly fried and topped with a crunchy cilantro slaw. We'll definitely be back!

Google
I really dig the tools nailed to the wall. Good selection of taps. Net-enabled juke box. Excellent brisket meat. The standard BBQ sauce is tasty; but not as good as Hog Wild's. And the side dishes are fantastic. I've had near perfect service each time I've been in, they're attentive but not annoying.

Yelp
The Lucky Horseshoe is a great little neighborhood bar - so great, in fact, that even though it's not in my neighborhood I will go out of the way to go there. I chanced upon it on a whim when looking for a happy hour with outdoor seating, and came back for the promise of Sunday gravy pasta. This is the kind of place where the regulars from the neighborhood post up at the bar and where the comfort food more than matches the solid drinks being served. Happy hour is solid; the Negroni Sbagliato is super tasty, they make a mean Spritz, and the wine pours are simple yet generous. The aforementioned Sunday gravy pasta is homey and comforting. I have yet to try the other menu items, but from peeping at other folks' tables, they look tasty. The service is casual and friendly. The space is small, but in a cozy way, and there's a parklet and tables outside for sunny days. Good food, good drink, good ambiance - lucky we are, indeed!

Yelp
Meatballs were amazing. The cheese really brings out the flavor. The Paloma is perfection. Service was great. Ambiance was laidback. Great for hanging out with friends or casual date. Definitely recommend!

Yelp
First visit was for 2024 Sandwich Week, great lively vibe immediately upon entering. The Negroni Sbagliato on Happy Hour was oh so satisfying. Of all the sandwich entries around town, their Italian Grilled Cheese was my most anticipated to try. For one, it was one of the few thin creations, most were towering monstrosities. It was good, but not great. What would elevate it is If they used a more interesting bread such as Grand Central's Potato Bun. The homemade gelato was excellent and a good value. Small suggestion: replace the big soup spoon with a smaller dessert spoon. The crowd is predominantly "Clinton", lots of beanies and beards. Bartender was cool which was especially appreciated as it was during peak time. I look forward to returning to further explore the menu.

Yelp
Found this little gem and saw how great the ratings were on @yelpportland while we were in the area. We tried the pork cutlet sandwich, cacio e pepe Mac n cheese, and the hot capicola sandwich. Everything was so good! I love the limited menu so I didn't feel overwhelmed with options. Water is self serve and you can either place an order at the bar or the QR code on the table. I have T-Mobile and my signal was weak so internet was spotty.

Yelp
A small cocktail bar on Clinton with lots of well priced and made cocktails, decent food selection with delicious pasta and salads, and great people watching as it's right next door to the theater that always play Rocky Horror Picture Show. Not busy on a Friday night which is actually really nice for a casual hangout with friends.

Matthew S.

Yelp
Great Happy Hour, great pizza on Monday, all the food is great. Love the vibes (old Italian movie posters and classic movies)

Andrew C.

Yelp
Great cozy vibe, super cocktails with knowledgeable bartenders and a decent happy hour. Love the ambiance and location.

Sabrina H.

Yelp
One of the best places in town, both for food and drinks. Everyone who works here is really nice. It can really get busy during dinner time, but the wait is never long for good food to come out! Don't go to Monday pizza night, with different pizzas each week. Instead, save it all for me!

Deanna M.

Yelp
Consistent! Amazing classic cocktails, INCREDIBLY good specials, and just the best food a bar has put out around town lately. We ordered through the app when it was busy and that was seamless! Otherwise they're on top of your stuff, don't be afraid to walk up to them, they're really nice. Water is nearby the door to grab for yourself and sit.

Theresa A.

Yelp
Really enjoyed my experience here. You order and pay at your table via QR code, server brings it out, you get your own water - pretty hands off. The food took me by surprise. We ordered the garlic bread, fried meatballs, pork sandwich, and spaghetti and it was all really good! Smaller portions, but it was more than enough food for two people. We also ordered Smokeshow and a daiquiri - excellent cocktails. The bar itself is smaller, dark, and cozy. The outside patio is nice and airy on a beautiful warm day. Will be back for HH!

Yelp
We stop in for a quick drink after catching a movie next door. It's quaint, the bartender is friendly, we sit at the bar and chat with him about whiskey. They have a few bottles, not too many but a little off each kind. He recommends a bottle to us, we like it. We have a second drink, we enjoy the peaceful ambiance in this little, unassuming lounge. It's kind of dark, more intimate vibes (or serial killer waiting in the wings, depending on your mood). We don't stay long but we enjoy our time there. We pay our tab, tip our bartender, and walk back out into the unknown sketchiness that is modern day Portland. Carefully we walk around the mounds of garbage and broken glass, breathing lightly so as not to inhale too much of the aerial funk surrounding us. My car is right where I left it. My catalytic converter is in tact. We live to see another rainy day here in the PNW ;) cheers!

Ariel S.

Yelp
This is my first time here but I will certainly be back. The decor is cozy and inviting and the prices are beyond fair. Wine was $6 a glass and they had a deal of $7 for Rainer & a well shot. Staff was super friendly and helpful. Very unique style with carousel horses all over the wall. This was a very comfortable setting and I definitely enjoyed myself!

Bruno B.

Yelp
Sweet spot, it has vibes like Little Dom's back in L.A., old school Italian feel. I had a tasty chopped salad with salami and a 50/50 Cynar and rye. The staff chatted with me about 50/50s and gave me the owner's own concoction, the Tootsie Roll (it did indeed taste like a tootsie roll). I shouldn't have ordered the tonnato, I wasn't a big fan of the dry crackers.

Pat R.

Yelp
I've been here six times now since they reopened under new ownership, new menu. The cocktails are excellent. No qualifications. I'm partial to the Paper Plane but I've had probably 8 different ones and none have disappointed. Likewise, the food is tasty and fresh. Whether you get a sandwich, a salad, or a desert you'll get something delicious. Tonight we had the fried berry pie a la mode and it was just amazing. Couldn't be better. The ambience is great, especially for summer. We've only eaten outside, but it's perfect on a summer evening to enjoy being outside as well as to people watch. The one knock is the service. On the one hand it is VERY convenient to order using your phone. However, the servers only bring out the food and bus - they don't give any kind of direction with the menu. And when we asked for water you would have thought we were asking the person to go to the well and pump. We ended up getting it ourselves. That doesn't ruin it for us though. We've been six times and we'll keep going back for the food, cocktails, and good vibes on Clinton and 26th.

Lexi M.

Yelp
We stopped in for a midday snack and drink after running some errands, and let me tell you- I don't know what I was expecting, but I was blown away! I had the Piazza Dante and the Albiccoca Martini- both were equally delicious and refreshing. We shared the cacio e Pepe Mac and cheese, and I wish I would have ordered my own it was so good! We also shared the eggs diavolo- loved the unique twist with the spicy Chile addition! This is a small, fairly quiet bar. It wasn't terribly busy, but the bartender was very attentive and friendly.

Larissa T.

Yelp
Excellent service, delicious food and a friendly personal setting. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!

Cindy P.

Yelp
Love this bar! It has nice ambiance with cool movies playing on the screens, vintage posters and lovely large windows. The staff is always so friendly and the food is quite tasty.

Daniela M.

Yelp
Great food and drinks Nice cozy lounge ambiance. Older movies on the couple of TVs. Able to have a conversation with background music. Will return again.

Ciara W.

Yelp
Highly recommend folks check this place out! It was a divey bar (totally fine) and now has great Italian food and some well-curated cocktails. New owners are friendly and fully invested in making this a family business to be proud of. Relaxed vibe, good food, reasonable prices--I am a big fan!

Dif L.

Yelp
Keep it simple. Do it very well. Creates the perfect experience for these visitors from "the land of enchantment".

Laura R.

Yelp
I loved this place before it changed ownership, and I LOVE THIS PLACE now!! Family run, super friendly staff, bonkers-good food, absolutely excellent cocktails. It's always been a cozy spot, but now the food and drink are better than ever. We'll be back, again and again and again.

Amber C.

Yelp
Have enjoyed their well crafted cocktails, nice Italian wines, patio, and thoughtful and satisfying vegan options a few times and will be back! Thanks for considering all diets, really enjoy this new spot!

Cindy S.

Yelp
Excellent service, limited but perfectly adequate menu and delicious cocktails. The menu changes so we will definitely be back. It's our new favorite spot

Amy D.

Yelp
Fast friendly service with a view of Clinton corner action. Great inside and covered outside seating.

Delaney K.

Yelp
My boyfriend and I raved about the spaghetti we had here for days. Portion was a bit small, but maybe that's just because it was so good we couldn't help but want more! The cocktails were expertly made and didn't break the bank. Perfect for a little solo dinner or a date night. We'll be back very soon!

M S.

Yelp
Super friendly staff, food was really good. They had onions rings as a specialty off the menu. We had the chopped salad and pork cutlet sandwich. Both were really good! We will definitely be back.

Steve E.

Yelp
Stopped by for drinks and some food, which was great. New owners and staff are nice and we really enjoyed it. Great update for the neighborhood.

Charlie T.

Yelp
Local neighborhood bar off Se Clinton. The bar is pretty small and has almost a dive bar atmosphere...but they have windows. The drinks are fairly inexpensive depending on what you order. The bartender that served us was pretty nice and quick with our drinks.

Rachel B.

Yelp
During a recent stay in Portland, the Lucky Horseshoe was a quarter mile from our AirBnb. We ended up hanging out here almost every night for a couple of hours, having a beer and playing gin at the bar. To me, this wasn't a dive bar. It was just a good old fashioned neighborhood bar. It was never crowded, but never empty either. The bartender looks and speaks like Liv Tyler, all twinkly eyes and kindness. It's dimly lit and cozy, in an old building with large, paned front windows. Character for days. While we were there, the TV at the bar was playing some ridiculous retro low-budge sci-fi movie, and the bartender and some regulars were providing delightful commentary and shrieking during an awkward sex scene. They have goldfish on the menu. Yes, like a little bowl of little salty crunchy goldfish crackers on which to snack. I found this to be absolutely genius, endearing, and simple, and we ordered goldfish every night there as a rule. Visit this bar if you're nearby. I am back in my home city wishing it was around the corner.

Margarita I.

Yelp
Very rude bartender last night, passive aggressive from the start. Not sure if she was having a bad day but I would definitely not be coming back.

Bryan G. W.

Yelp
Ann Marie is cool and super sweet...she answered all my questions kindly even to the dismay of the bearded poser at the end of the bar on his 5 year old dell laptop... if youre going to be hip... get a new laptop and wear flipflops Im feeling Lucky... and most fortunate..

Jacqueline R.

Yelp
Small place but very lowkey. Nice place to chill if you are waiting for a show at Clinton Theater. Deviled eggs are tasty but the grilled cheese was a little bland. Nice happy hour place 4-6 everyday.

Tim E.

Yelp
This place is just awful! Please don't go here and take my table. Or maybe just visit when I'm not there, but good luck with that. I love the Shoe, it's my first living room. My second living room is my living room. The owner is super nice, and I'm not saying that to get a free round because nobody offers free booze at this place. They don't have to. It's my favorite bar in a neighborhood with, like, five, maybe even as much as seven bars within three blocks? It is apparently also my favorite bar in town.

Chris K.

Yelp
Fantastic bar, great service. They have a good deal on an Olympia and a shot of well for $5.50. The outdoor seating is great and it's the perfect corner spot to people/bike watch.

E R.

Yelp
Tatchos, nachos, neighbors and beer. What more could I want from my Local? Nothing. The nachos are especially good with fresh roasted tomato salsa and they have a great rotating selection of microbrew as well as a tub full of frosty cans.

Dillon S.

Yelp
Love love this place.... they have awesome drink specials and great taps. Can't wait to go to go back might even stop in today

Jesse N.

Yelp
Bartender was rude to me. I wouldn't go back. Not warming or makes me ever wanna drink there. It's sad cause it's right next door to the Clinton theatre. Don't drink here if you can help it.

Neyva R.

Yelp
My sister and I were from out of town looking for a place to hang out. We tried a few places but this bar stood out. They had great drinks, atmosphere, and the bartender Marc made this bar 100 times better. We will recommend to all our friends. Til next time!

Spencer T.

Yelp
The Lucky Horseshoe Lounge is a friendly little bar that epitomizes "low key." It's a good place to go when you want to keep your evening mellow. It's got a chill country vibe. Think Sam Elliott, not Yosemite Sam. Neither a hick bar, nor a saloon, nor a honky-tonk, but a dimly-lit joint where they play Hank Williams, Johnny Cash, and Willie Nelson. The bartender is really sweet and takes good care of her patrons. They've got a decent few beers on tap, plus a great deal on a shot of well whiskey and a pint of Olympia (only five bucks!). Cocktails are a better bet. They make a decent old fashioned, and their well drinks are nicely mixed. I haven't had any of the other drinks on their current cocktail list besides their old fashioned, but they seem like they'd be tasty enough. The food isn't great, but nor is it awful. I've had the tot-chos here before, and they served their purpose. That said, there is better bar food to be found in the surrounding area. Your best bet is to hang at the Lucky Horseshoe, decompress a bit over a little drink, and then once you get hungry, keep moving. But don't leave too quickly, as it's too nice a place to rush through. The main thing that draws me to this place is the vibe. Sometimes, especially if you're hitting a lot of bars in one night, you don't want a place with pounding music, a cavernous space, and a massive menu. You want a chill spot to hang out and enjoy the good company over a drink or two. And that's exactly what the Lucky Horseshoe is.

Sara-Eleanor Y.

Yelp
I love this bar! Very chill and relaxed with a great, small and intimate atmosphere with good movies playing and good music kicking in the background. Sean was a fantastic bartender, great service, great attitude, and conversation. He went out of his way to make me some good hot drinks while I had a cold. Will definitely be back!!

Daven M.

Yelp
Look, I can walk into this place on a Friday night and immediately find a seat. That alone is worth the 5 stars for this part of town. I've never had to wait for a drink from the small but expertly curated tap selection, and when you add to that the surprisingly good sandwiches, it just gets better and better. This is an unpretentious bar for unpretentious people. And for neighborhood denizens like myself, it offers a welcome balance between Dots and the Clinton Street Pub. And the people watching from the outdoor seating is second to none. My only complaint is that it doesn't open until 4pm on weekdays, which means I have an hour to kill after K&F coffee closes. Although I guess I can just grab a bite to eat at Noho's while I wait. Damn, I spend way too much time on this corner...

Caleb B.

Yelp
Incomplete Package or Around the Corner and Underwhelming When they were building the place out, I was excited. It looked like fun, hip, western-themed. My kind of place. And, being a mere three blocks from my door, well within 'stumbling distance.' They did a good job with the decor. Take a look at the menu, though, and the facade is lifted. The food offerings are minimal and don't fit the tenor of the place. Nachos? Sure. Tots? Okay, I can see how they fill a role. Panini, though? Wtf is that about? The turkey with havarti and olive tapenade, for instance, has no business on the menu card at a dark, brooding bar with gold-tinted chandeliers and a red neon horseshoe in the window. I ordered it anyway. When it arrived, I was underwhelmed. There was nothing luxurious about the thin, oozing breadplank at the bottom of the basket. And it was incredibly salty. Like, salt-literally-on-the-outside-of-the-ciabatta-roll salty. If olive tapenade is coming to the party, I don't think you'll be lacking in salt, so don't add it to the bread. Overall, it felt cheap. The staff isn't bad, or mean, or surly. However, they're never particularly engaging - which seems to fit the overall feeling of the place. The beer selection is, at least, pretty good. Pfriem, for instance, made an appearance. Overall, though, I can't help feeling like the owner saw this location as low hanging fruit, put in a nice looking facade and then half-assed the menu, looking for any way to increase their margins. If you're just drinking, and don't really care what's under the hood, you could be blissfully ignorant here. With so many good options nearby, though, I can't recommend LHL.

Jeanne D.

Yelp
Service is great on weekdays (Mark, you are rad!). Haven't checked out weekends. Food is kind of what you expect for a teensy spot. Tots and nachos, the usual bar fare. What I love most about this place is the ability to have a work meeting without getting drowned out by loud music, loud television, and loud patrons. I can actually hear a conversation. Yay! Also the bathroom is clean. Super important and so rare in this neighborhood. If you are a SE local, check out the velvet painting of Hosford MS. Hope this place sticks around.

Tiffany M.

Yelp
Cheap. $4 micros, 7 or so choices that were quality including Occidental and Gigantic. Nicer than a dive-tastic dive. It's quite cozy, and it was warm on a cold winter's day. Not a ton of comfy seating. The bathroom is clean, which is always a big plus in a lady's world. Service was whatevs. It was fine. Even though the place was empty we had to go up to the bar to order, although she did bring us out the drinks. Typical Portland bar service. Random music. Between blasting the Bee Gees, Hall & Oates, Michael Jackson, and other random goodness, this bar had me quoting Fitzgerald: "I was within and without. Simultaneously enchanted and repelled by the inexhaustible variety of life."

Ell D.

Yelp
Great atmosphere, friendly service, decent prices. They usually have old movies playing. It's kind of fun to glance up and see one just happen to sync with music playing.

G W.

Yelp
This is not a fancy bar. It is exactly what a typical bar should be. It is exactly what a five star typical bar should be. It's clean, the staff is friendly, its not expensive ($5 draft good IPAs). I always come here when I go to the Clinton Street Theater and I always remember how much I like it. It has an invisible vibe of welcoming/acceptance. Everyone seems welcomed from the 20 something covered in tattoos to the 70 year old father in his Hawaiian shirt. If I lived in the neighborhood this would be my bar.

Steve S.

Yelp
Speaking as a business owner on Clinton Street, I couldn't be happier that Anne Marie has whipped this space into shape and given us a chill place to hang out at the end of the working day. Which could be as early as 3:00. :-)

Simon L.

Yelp
The bartender is bearded and awesome. The beer is fresh and the panini is surprisingly good. The girls are cute. A good fun dive. Portland as it should be.

Valerie F.

Yelp
Small corner neighborhood bar with a bar food menu and cocktails, beers and wines. The Panini!s are good. Try the Tater Totes - they are amazing!

Denise S.

Yelp
Wonderful neighborhood bar. Busy corner location next to Clinton St. Theater and across from Dot's and K&F Coffee makes it a great people watching spot day and night. Picnic tables outside, big picture windows, and orangey-red neon horseshoes in windows give the bar a pleasant glow. Excellent mixed drinks and choice of stellar local beers, including Gigantic and Occidental. Limited, but tasty, menu. Good nachos, great salad. Music: Old-school country on jukebox and Pandora. Occasional live band; somehow they can fit a band and instruments in without making the small bar feeling too crowded. Decor: Fantastic black-velvet painting of Hosford School and barstools from old Matador on Burnside.
