"Metairie-ites in the know adore this family-run po’ boy and platter shop on Clearview, and with good reason. World Deli dishes large portions of homestyle eats, from sandwiches and salads to daily dinner specials in the $10-$15 range, filling plates of red beans and rice, pork chops and mashed potatoes, and beef stew, served with veg of the day and garlic bread." - Beth D'Addono, Clair Lorell

"Metairie-ites in the know love this family run po’ boy and platter shop on Clearview, and with good reason — it dishes large portions of homestyle eats, from sandwiches and salads to daily dinner specials. Speaking of large portions, World Deli’s muffuletta is as big as it gets, and the mini muffuletta party tray is a Mardi Gras favorite." - Beth D'Addono, Eater Staff

"Everything at this family-owned market and eatery is so tasty, from the overstuffed po-boys to the daily specials. Stuffed peppers, breaded pork chops with mac and cheese, crawfish etouffee — and dinner comes with garlic bread and vegetable side. Call ahead to World Deli (except on Monday) to see if lasagna is on the menu, and if it is, get a lot. It’s one of the best stacks of cheesy red gravy goodness in town. Open for takeout 10 a.m. to 7p.m Tuesday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 4p.m. on Saturday." - Beth D'Addono

Don't order a panini. 1st, it's not on panini bread, just white toast. $13 for a barely toasted white bread sandwich is expensive IMO since it didn't come with chips or a side. Service was fine and it's a cute, clean place. Other food that went by looked much better. It was my 1st time here and I guess just ordered the wrong thing.

I'm sorry, but I'm not going to be comfortable in a place where people are treated poorly, even feeling disrespectful with contemptuous looks and a bad atmosphere. We have to be human.

The veal with mushroom gravy is the absolute best. The crawfish ettouffe is crazy good especially on top of fried catfish. You can’t go wrong whatever you order.

I love it! I came here for the first time in the late '90s. It's so nice to have a local deli still going strong. Today I had the sandwich plate. New Orleanians love quartered deli sandwiches on white bread and today I had the triple decker Club. This sandwich is perfect if you're undecided on lunch. "Should I eat something heavy now or just get something light?" "What can I get besides a salad?" This is the typical worker's quandary. I'd suggest moving past the veal parm sub and muffuletta and try either the turkey with pepper jelly panini or the triple decker club. Eat half and put the rest in the fridge at work for lunch tomorrow. Here's a tip for the out-of-towner: If you're in N.O. on business and stuck in a hotel for a week, you can get home-cooked meals at World to heat in your microwave at the hotel. Try the red beans and rice (Monday special, of course) or the butter beans with rice and a link of sausage on Wednesday. The plates come with a little side of bread and if you add a slice of rum cake, you're all set for an evening of work in the hotel (especially if it's raining.)

We bought the lasagna from the freezer and thawed it for supper. It was the best lasagna I have ever eaten. We ate half and put the other half in the freezer for another day. I have eaten this dish in a number of restaurants and they didn’t come close.

It was a great little place, had a pastrami loved it! They also have sweets and treats you can buy as well as frozen meals you can take home! Loved it!

Google
Best poboys and plate lunches in Metairie. Looks like a hole in the wall and parking sucks, but the food and wait are worth it. Bring some cash for the video poker while you wait. Cash is king for mom & pop places. Show some love.

Google
Best debri fries and rost beef sandwiches.

Yelp
The food was amazing. Definitely a go to for muffaletta sandwich. Potato salad is on point and there chocolate cake to die for! The people were great, friendly and helpful. Cute little deli with small seating area.

Yelp
Called an order in for pick up, when I arrived the lady at the counter didn't really greet me it was more of, "what's your name" vs a kind hello, before getting into my order. Place didn't feel welcoming had a strange vibe or a grocery store, deli counter, restaurant mashup. The folks in the back seemed nice when my order came up... food ended up being good- not sure worth the price but it was convenient to our new house. Sorry forgot to grab photos- we had the roast beef po-boy with gravy... it was good and the meat was tender (bread didn't get soggy and then a Ruben which had tons of meat, tasty seeded rye, and Swiss- definitely could have used more than what felt like a pinch of sauerkraut. It was good but I'd definitely ask for more sauerkraut next time. Also picked up some turtles which are my boyfriend's favorite - he was disappointed in the cookie but said the chocolate and pecans were spot on. We may try this again but it won't be a first choice due to the pricing... their prices are comparable to somewhere offering a side with the sandwich and here it's a la cart.

Yelp
The roast beef poboy is excellent! The bread stays pretty crispy despite a good amount of gravy. They use pulled roast beef instead of shaved. The flavor is awesome! Must try!

Ken M.

Yelp
10/10 food. 10/10 selection. Nice staff. Smells great. The only con is that the deserts are too sweet but Americans shouldn't be ordering that anyway LoL.

Daniel M.

Yelp
My favorite roast beef poboys in town. And the cakes...oh my !!! Hot lunches are always dee-lish.

Kelly M.

Yelp
Best muffelattas . Worst parking. Great place to call in a sand ice to go they do have tables.

Burckel G.

Yelp
Besttttt in the city! Panini/ poboys/ muffalatas !! ten stars always! And they cater!

Amber H.

Yelp
I have ordered from here two times now through delivery service. Both times the food is fresh, delicious, generous portions and great. Highly recommend!

Randall R.

Yelp
Great food. All from scratch The desserts are the best. Large selection of homemade cakes

Joyce G.

Yelp
I ordered the roast beef poor boy with ham and Swiss cheese to go. I also purchased a frozen entree and $5.99 dessert. Total: $31.09. When I got home I discovered that they had made a regular roast beef poor boy. It was past 3:00pm and needed to eat. Not wanting to eat a cold sandwich I went ahead and ate what they sold me. It was nearly 3:30pm and I called World Deli to alert them of their mistake. I asked for the difference in price to be given as a credit for my next visit. The employee informed me they don't do credits and I could bring the sandwich back. (Impossible since I had already eaten it!) I am a 72 year old retired teacher and not used to being doubted. I wonder if the loss of future business was worth it to this restaurant. I won't be back!!

Fernando M.

Yelp
I had home delivery several times Reuben and Pastrami sandwiches arrived hot Large fresh baked rolls Loaded with fresh grilled meat I'll keep going back

Tom C.

Yelp
I've finally found a delicious nearby (Metairie) deli. Dare I say the Reuben was better than Stein's? Yes, it was. Good simple and delicious. Best for take out. All sorts of sides and candies(!). And the prices are right!

James G.

Yelp
Stopped by to get a muffalata to take on the plane. It was so tasty and the service was quick. Will do again when next in NOLA.

Cassie M.

Yelp
Best roast beef in Metairie! Also enjoy their salads and specials. Sadly, the shrimp po boy and potato salad were lacking much need seasoning and flavor.

Ray B.

Yelp
Been twice, roast beef sandwich is very good. My gf got the turkey panini each time and it's very good as well

Josh B.

Yelp
Great little hole in the wall Italian based deli. They appear to stay busy at all open hours including 2:30-3pm. From calling in my order to walking out the door with the panini was right over 10 minutes which is very reasonable. The mufalatta sandwich is a 5/5 must try item on the menu. The perfect amount of each ingredient with a noticeable high quality olive salad.

Marsha T.

Yelp
I was in town for a class and only had an hour for lunch on the Saturday after St.Patrick Day and they were right next door to us. The vibe as soon as you walk in was very lively. They had so much to look at and purchase. My friends and I wished they were opened on Sundays because they were closed when we got out of class but they did have food frozen to purchase along with desserts. The menu was simple and everything looked delicious.!I got the ham and Swiss panini with mango pepper jello Service was quick, food was hot and amazing! Whenever I'm back in town I will be stopping by!

Jamaella W.

Yelp
So good they have the best cakes I've ever tasted. I had the wedding cake recently and I'm obsessed;

Yelp
I've been going to World Deli, a gem in Metairie for many years on and off and always have a great sandwich. My favorite is the warm muffuletta. Today was definitely my first time that the service from the deli area was absolutely Awful! I was in the middle paying my bill and I heard my name. I obviously wasn't quick enough as the deli lady walked up to the register and threw my sandwich on the counter and mouthed off "I called your name 3 times"! I was shocked! To top it all off the bread was tough and very dark from leaving in the oven too long! I suggest having patience when going to this deli. Obviously, their staff is stressed out.

Lindsey B.

Yelp
Love world deli! They have all kinds of great home cooked meals, poboys, salads, and a little market too for some random kitchen, pantry items. They also have pre-made soups and meals that you can heat up at home. Breaded pork chops, veal, chicken Parmesan dinners. Macaroni is delicious! Green beans! If I'm in a bind with time and don't want to cook, I'll stop here and get some dinners to bring home for the kids. Staff is nice, too! I just hate the parking lot. It's on a weird angle where you pull in and park on an angle and then you basically have to reverse back out onto Clearview which is always not safe.

Germaine D.

Yelp
Love the Metairie gem. The food is amazing. All of it! I've loved everything my husband and I order. And the frozen dinners are so convenient. Good prices for a hot homemade meal that I didn't have to dirty my own kitchen for

Chris C.

Yelp
A special place off the beaten path. If you don't like this place you don't deserve to eat good food and should stick with Piccadilly or fast food

Beth W.

Yelp
Love World Deli, It's a neighborhood gem for sure. Wonderful roast beef and awesome shrimp poboys. Everyone is friendly and helpful. Parking can be a challenge during peak hours. I try to get there on off peak times.

Yelp
A few weeks ago, I ordered from here via Door Dash. My order arrived missing items and wasn't very good. Part of that order was their potato salad. I remember thinking, "I can't believe I thought this was once good." I reported it to Door Dash and figured it was a fluke because my World Deli experiences were always good. Today I gave them another chance and ordered from Door Dash. This time a roast beef poboy and cannoli....among other things. You know the chewy, stick to your teeth experience when you chew overcooked meat? That was the roast beef poboy I received. It sucked. I gave it to the feral cats outside. They seemed to like it. The cannoli wasn't much better. Very average cannoli. Today, World Deli blew their second chance. I remember good food in the past. The past two experiences demonstrated to me World Deli is becoming complacent and is unable to even serve average food.

Yelp
This was our first visit to World Deli. When I was looking for a place for lunch, I was intrigued by this place. Looking at the menu and getting a local recommendation cinched it for me. My wife and I stopped by yesterday and it was awesome. The staff was very friendly and service was quick. I saw one review that said the Rueben sandwich was the best around and it's no lie! Lots of meat, cheese and sauerkraut piled high on delicious toasted rye bread. And my wife ordered the muffuletta and it was the best she's ever tasted! Once again lots of meat, cheese and olive salad piled high on a whole loaf of Italian bread. She only ate one wedge for lunch so we were able to take the rest home to enjoy for dinner. Do yourself a favor. If you're a fan a great deli sandwiches, you'll really enjoy a trip to World Deli. Find any excuse to go, you won't be disappointed!

Erin B.

Yelp
Best EVER Muffuletta's EVER! We ship these to family in TX when they need a fix of of a muffelatta

Yelp
Cashier literally had me stand and wait to pay for my food until he finished a personal conversation on his cellphone. Very unprofessional and rude. He needs a class in etiquette and customer service. The young man that took my order was very professional. The fries had no seasoning. The fish was not seasoned enough. I have enjoyed their poboy's in the past. I am disappointed.

Brittany P.

Yelp
I've ordered from here a few times via doordash and everything I've had was delicious. Their chicken Parmesan and roast beef poboy is really really good. Their pot roast and spaghetti and meatballs is also really good and homemade tasting. I highly recommend!!

Kurt L.

Yelp
My father in law George M loves the club sandwich at this place. He said it is moderately priced but well worth the wait...! The "pastrami special" will force cooter brown's to abandon their supplier and take it off the menu. But cooters "tough guy" manager thinks his oysters are king (as well as himself)

Joey R.

Yelp
I moved out of town and haven't been here in 10 years. This use to be my favorite sit for muffuletta and roast beef poboy. Now that I moved back I tried it again. The roast beef poboy was on plain bread, not seeded like it was 10 years ago it seemed to be a little smaller than I remembered but still was a great New Orleans roast beef. I'll definitely be back. My wife had a meat ball poboy and really enjoyed that.

Janie W.

Yelp
My grandson loves the meatball sub and I love the BLT . We get other items but this was our last take out

Redfish T.

Yelp
I live a block away a rarely frequent this place. Got take out today as I cant stand eating in the place. Wife got a Reuben and I got a 1/2 Muff. Both were good but nothing to write home about. I would probably go more if they either clean that filthy carpet in the place or better yet .... remove it!

Steve P.

Yelp
It did take me a couple of circles around the block to get a parking place, however when I got in it was well worth the extra time to find a parking spot. I had the veal Parmesan, it was more than enough cooked perfectly, pasta was perfect, the green beans were exceptional. You really can't get much better on the fly. Plus when you walk in and there are numerous desserts Available I'm still thinking about going back and getting that pineapple upside down cake. Well worth the stop, great food, good atmosphere

Jessica D.

Yelp
The roast beef poboy I got here was good. The dressings were a little sparse, but it was fresh and fairly quick. This place is cute with a typical small business, old New Orleans flair. Unfortunately, there were just too many things about the place that kind of threw me off. At first, I just wanted to take a look at the dry goods. One of the ladies behind the counter called out, "Excuse me, can I HELP you?" But she said it like, "can you tell me what you want so you can then leave as quickly as possible?" There was barely anyone in the place. The guy at the register was nice. The tags on all the shelves for the dry goods were wrong though, one of their refrigerators wasn't working, and they had an uncovered bowl of olive salad just sitting out on a kitchen counter...for a good 20 minutes. My overall impression of the business itself wasn't very good.

Tamia G.

Yelp
Quaint deli on the side of the road with lots of traditional Italian menu items to choose from. They also have 3 tall coolers full of prepared foods to go, like soups, all manner of pasta dishes and pizzas. Lots of varieties of bottled beer round out the coolers. They also have a well-stocked deli cabinet (meats, cheeses, salads, pizzas), a small dining area (approx 10 tables) & video poker. Lining the main wall are shelves stocked with jarred olives, olive oils, minced garlic, boxed pastas, jams, cocktail mixes, condiments, candies, and various sodas and sparkling waters. They have a fountain machine, which serves coke products (yaaay) - but no juices for us purists, so S. Pelligrino, here I come! Everything is fresh and made to order. I thoroughly enjoyed their tomato pesto panini! The bread was perfectly crispy on the outside and filled with creamy mozzarella, tangy tomatoes, pine nuts and fresh pesto. What a perfect sandwich! Though I ordered it to go, I decided to enjoy it in their family-style dining area. Good call! Parking right out front (diagonal spaces for about 10 cars) is best since it's on Clearview Pkwy. I'll be back to visit next time I'm deep in Metry!

Tiff D.

Yelp
Small, old, Italian store. Not quite a market, not quite a restaurant. Carpeted floors (which is gross), a small glass counter with various deli salads and premade dinner dishes. None of the salads looked particularly great. Pretty standard po-boy menu for a New Orleans sandwich shop. The one thing that was different was a couple paninis on the special sign on the counter. Tomato Pesto or Chicken Pesto. I got the tomato pesto. It was good, large, and full of cheese and pesto but not worth the $9 I paid for it. The chicken pesto was the exact same price, and it had CHICKEN! Probably because its a popular menu item, they keep the price high.

Michael M.

Yelp
prices went up sandwiches got smaller But the quality and taste is still there I think they R out pricing there sandwiches

Bob R.

Yelp
We order food to go from World Deli at least twice a week. Always great, and fast! Wide variety- excellent fried seafood!

Aaron M.

Yelp
This is obviously a Metairie neighborhood joint that has had the same regulars since the dawn of time, so it kind of depresses me to write a 3 star review; I really wanted to be more generous, but people won't trust me anymore. I ordered their crawfish monica pasta, a Friday special. As soon as I took the first bite, my mind immediately went to memories of eating crawfish monica at about 3 other places which, quite frankly, do it way better than this place. World Deli's was creamy and the portion was healthy, but there was way more pasta than crawfish which was disappointing. The sauce, while creamy, lacked any discernible flavor; Zara's manages to spice up their crawfish monica pretty nicely, which makes it a crowd favorite when I'm hosting Mardi Gras parties. The "italian" salad that came with it was also pretty forgettable. Their redeeming factor, and what saved this from being a 2 star review, was their pralines. I bought one after the meal, and could tell it was fresh. The taste and texture was on point, so much so that I might skip the trip to the Quarter/Southern Candymakers and head here to buy a whole bunch instead to take to family up north. It's an institution, but you can do better, even in Metairie. Do stop for the pralines though.

Kathryn P.

Yelp
Had the oyster and shrimp po boy Good and tasted fresh. Big portions of oysters and shrimp. Cooked welled and not over done. Minus a star only bc it had too much mayo and overpowered the taste. Next time will have to ask for light mayo. Cute small mom & pop atmosphere. Free water Small parking in the front but we had no problem.

Rhonda F.

Yelp
Favorite neighborhood place for a poboy sandwich, or a homemade hot meal to go. This restaurant/Deli is a great spot with friendly staff, clean, and food is fresh, and homemade. The catering offers many options. Only negative is the lack of parking!!

Lauren L.

Yelp
I awarded a fourth star to this establishment because I have seen a tremendous effort to be cordial over the past two years. The last time I purchased some frozen pre-prepared foods, every single employee had a smile on their face. I also noticed a few additional items such as wasabi crackers and Covington strawberry beer. Their small grocery selection is really comprehensive. One of my favorite things is that they have fig cookies and other delicacies from Angelo Brocato. I remember being asked recently where one could buy mini toasts... Well guess what? They have both white and wheat mini toasts here. They looked very tasty; it took a lot of restraint for me not to buy them and consume them in mere minutes. I believe many accolades are due to any place of business that considers consumers' comments and uses them to improve. Well done.

Annie C.

Yelp
I was really excited to try this place and I was quite disappointed by their oyster Rockefeller soup. There wasn't any oysters and it just tasted like cream of spinach soup. The menu looked really good, so I am going to give it one more try.

M K.

Yelp
Best club sandwich. I crave it constantly. Don't get me started on the soups! Service is pretty slow and no one seems to want to wear their mask properly, but damn the food is good.

Shelley H.

Yelp
World Deli is a mini market, casino and sandwich shop all rolled into one. You can buy specialty sweets and pre made dishes from the fridge, throw a quarter or two in the slots behind the saloon doors and grab a muffuletta while you're there. The olives on the muffuletta were amazing!

Rollie R.

Yelp
I was craving an oyster poboy today, Saturday and I usually go to Parkway but they only serve their oyster poboys on Mondays and Wednesdays! I had to get my fix on so I was reading reviews in Metairie and I love going to World Deli for their roast beef poboys! They have one of best in town. Well today the oyster didn't disappoint! A tip that I like! I asked for tartar sauce instead of mayo and to add cocktail sauce instead of ketchup. And of course, dressed! If you're not from New Orleans and you aren't familiar with what dressed means, it's lettuce, tomato, and pickle! The bread at World Deli is warm, fresh, and crispy! It's locally made, Gendusa's if you were wondering. The oysters were plump and battered just right. See pic. The atmosphere is very family oriented. Don't forget something sweet to go, a praline or two, or even three just in case you're being generous and want to share with a friend! Give it a twirl, and try World! Lol you won't regret it!

J. T.

Yelp
This is a wonderful little lunch/dinner spot. Order at the counter in the back and pay your ticket at the checkout by the door and they will bring your food to your table when it's ready. They do a ton of "to go" business as well as catering. The menu is large and the sandwiches, paninis, salads, and lunch specials are excellent. Great po-boys and I mean perfection. Today I had the delicious roast beef which is the best I have ever had and the bread puts it over the top. I was talking to a guy at lunch who was bragging on their soups. In his case it was the corn and crab bisque. I had the crawfish etoufee with fried catfish two days ago and it was so good and only $12.95. They have daily specials, too. For example, Monday is red beans and rice. The soups, red beans, and a good selection of other items are packaged and ready to go from the refrigerator plus their is a surprisingly good selection of dry packaged deli items in stock. Do not pay any attention to reviewers who ate here once and didn't like the dish they ordered. If you haven't tried this place, order a dish you are familiar with and you will see that it is as good an example of New Orleans home cooking as you will find anywhere. The prices are fair and the service is friendly. The only problem is the small parking lot, but it is worth the parking hassle as you will see and the place is so good I refuse to deduct a star for that minor point. I love this joint.

Susan B.

Yelp
This little place has some of the best po-boys ever. It is a traditional deli where you order at the counter then pick up your sandwich when they call your name. There are few parking spots in the small lot outside, but we always seem to find a place. I've had shrimp, roast beef and turkey po-boys here. The French bread is crisp; I do not know which bakery they use. The sizes are 6 and 10-12 inch. My husband and I split a large one, and it's plenty; we're not big eaters. A dressed poboy has just enough mayo, lettuce, tomato, and pickle. The roast beef gravy rolls down our arms in a satisfying, juicy rush. The shrimp are fresh and plump and cooked enough, without too much batter to mask the flavor. I see locals buying the Italian specials to take home, and one lady raved about the trays of reuben sandwiches she bought for a get together. Seriously, World Deli is head and shoulders above many others rated higher on this app. Prices are comparable.
