We were staying in Walnut Creek for the night and I was excited to find that World Famous Hotboys had a restaurant there! The first and only time we had WFH was on our foodie trip to Oakland and we loved it!
They're located off Main Street, so you'll have to look for street parking. It was around 8:30pm when we got there and we were able to find a spot right next to WFH. They were still pretty busy when we walked-in! We decided to dine-in and surprisingly they grabbed us menus and led us to a booth. I thought it was a pay at cashier and self seating type of place but they made it more like a diner type of spot. They have 3 long outdoor tables, about 6 small booths and some low counter seating. When we we ready to order, a super friendly guy came by. He took our order and we paid with him right away.
This place is definitely a vibe, they were bumping hip hop and it was dimly lit inside. Made me feel like I was at a 90s house party. Lol They had 4 old school tvs with working Nintendo game consoles that you can play on too.
We ordered..
SANDO COMBO-MEDIUM SPICY $16.50 -chicken thigh filet sandwich with pickles, slaw, money sauce and choice of side. We got crinkle fries, which were seasoned and crispy. The juiciness of the spicy crispy fried chicken went so well with the coolness of the coleslaw and tanginess of the pickles, inside a soft sweet bun. Great balance. It was the perfect sandwich! 5/5*
HALF CHICKEN-MEDIUM SPICY $20 -came with 3 large pieces of chicken, 2 pieces of white bread, a few pickles and 2 money sauces. We originally were going to get it "hot" but the guy who took our order said it's really hot, like habanero / ghost pepper Louisiana style hot. So we were glad we got medium, it was spicy enough to make our nose run a little but we could still enjoy the flavor of the spices. The chicken looked really red and powdery but it was super flavorful. It had a sweetness to it too. The coating was crunchy and the chicken was super hot and juicy, even the breast meat was juicy! 4.5/5*
HALAL TEXAS RED CHILI $6 -good, hearty but a bit salty. Flavor wise, it was bold and tasty. It was topped with some shredded cheese, red onions and sour cream. The pieces of meat I ate was more like chunks of overcooked beef. I didn't like the texture of it. The portion was pretty small, like the cup was the size of one ice cream scoop. Would have been good with some sweet cornbread to balance out the saltiness. I put the chili on my crinkle fries too. 3.5/5*
DIRTY DAVE'S TOP SECRET RANCH $1 -YUM. Creamy ranch sauce with a touch of sweetness. Great with fries. Only problem is.. you get such a small container of it, the size of a togo sauce container. 4.5/5*
STRAWBERRY SHAKE $7 -sweet but barely tasted any strawberry. A tad bit icy for me too. 3/5*
FOUNTAIN DRINK $2.99 -self serve soda fountain. I'm only writing this because our root beer soda was really good. Ice cold, bubbly and sweet, like straight out of a can! Refreshing with our spicy fried chicken. Unlimited refills. 5/5*
We also wanted to try their mac n cheeze but they ran out.. SAD.
Overall we really enjoyed our dinner! My husband loved it. Service was very friendly too. Would totally come back just for the chicken sandwich and bone-in chicken. Next time I want to try that and their breakfast burrito too.
