This was my second stop at Wormtown in the last 16 months. My first visit was in the height of summer, where my husband, his family, and I were able to enjoy our adult beverages on their little outdoor patio. Yesterday, I stopped in for a well-deserved, post-job-interview brew.
Despite being mid-afternoon on a Wednesday, the moderately-sized tasting area had quite a few folks at its wine barrel tables. I asked for "something delicious and hoppy" and (after some initial joshing from the pourer that they don't make anything along those lines) was referred to the Be Hoppiest triple IPA, coming in at a little over 10% ABV and offered in a 6 or 13 oz pour. I opted for the 13 oz tulip and was pleased at the tropical aroma and gorgeous peachy color. The taste was tropical and floral hops and surprisingly smooth despite the ABV, with a citrus-tropical finish. Yum.
After the triple, I didn't feel up to the limited brewer's edition double (Diner Car?) IPA, so I went with a pint of their flagship Be Hoppy and had no regrets. Took me a little while to get the pourer's attention for the second beer, but another Wormtown employee noticed my empty glass and jumped in to serve me.
Next time, I'll try a flight so I can sample some brews outside of their trademark hoppy successes -- although you can be sure I'll return to those as well.
Atmosphere: Industrial, inviting, with window walls to the brewing production. Clean bathrooms covered in beer stickers.
Service: Hit or miss, maybe? A bit annoying to wait for service with only 4 parties of drinkers there while the pourer flirted with some girls (to be fair, they were cute), especially since he did notice me at one point. Oh, well.
Beer: Solid, tasty brews.
Food: I don't know if they serve food but would venture to say they don't. Given that there are some decent food places nearby, they may allow drinkers to BYOF.
Overall: Will certainly return. Looking forward to branching out of the IPA family to see how they do.
