The ʔálʔal Cafe, Seattle’s Only Native Coffee Shop, Has Permanently Closed | Eater Seattle

"Elsewhere, I noted that the Puyallup Tribe recently opened a steakhouse in Tacoma called Woven that incorporates elements of Native cuisine, such as frybread." - Harry Cheadle

Woven is a beautiful waterfront restaurant with a clean, bright ambiance and stunning views. It was a clear but very cold day when we visited, so the patio wasn't open, but the large windows still give you a gorgeous view of the water, which really sets the tone. When we arrived, the main dining room was closed, but the bar was open for happy hour, which worked out perfectly. Our server, Amit, was incredibly friendly and took my food allergies very seriously. I really appreciated how allergen-aware the entire restaurant is. You can tell they have strong systems in place and genuinely care about accommodating guests safely. The happy hour menu has a solid variety, including some great non-alcoholic options. I had a spiced pear drink mixed with Zilch NA wine, and it was so good. My boyfriend ordered the Yamaguchi's Signature Hawaiian Martini and loved it. For food, we started with the pho-inspired pork ribs. They were incredible, packed with flavor and incredibly tender. The crispy fried pillows had great crunch, and the sauce tied everything together beautifully. We also ordered the teriyaki chicken skewers, which were okay flavor-wise but came out a bit cold. We ended up mixing them into the kimchi fried rice, which helped. Speaking of the kimchi fried rice...it was good, but if you're expecting spice because of the kimchi, it doesn't deliver heat. Not bad at all, just milder than expected. One standout dish was the miso-broiled eggplant. Amit recommended adding the fry bread, and that combination was perfect. I loved it so much I ordered extra fry bread to go. Overall, Woven delivered a great experience. Beautiful space, thoughtful service, strong allergy accommodations, and some truly delicious dishes. I'd absolutely recommend it and can't wait to come back in the summer to enjoy the patio.

My wife and I had a wonderful experience on our first visit here. The atmosphere in the dining area was warm, and inviting. Our server Michael was one of the best servers I've had in any restaurant for a while. He provided great menu details, offered suggestions and made sure we were checked on regularly. I've got nothing but praise for the food we had. From appetizers to dessert everything was flavorful and balanced. Nothing was too sweet or too salty. We ordered the bread service and Brussel sprouts for appetizer. Our meal was the Short Rib and the Pork Collar. We definitely could not pass up the Okinawa Sweet Potato Brulee for dessert. When we go to a restaurant like Woven, we have high expectations to meet and the staff did not disappoint.

My friend invited me here for my birthday. Zach was an amazing server - great personality, not overly attentive but there when we needed him, and he made a great recommendation for a wine pairing with my meal. We started with the spicy tuna roll. The flavors and textures were on spot - crunchy roll with spicy tuna and a tasty sauce underneath. The roll could’ve been tighter however, it was difficult to eat. I had their version of Paella, and I wouldn’t order it again. The seafood was wonderful and cooked perfectly, but the rice was not consistent in texture and was too moist and saucy. I also didn’t like that they overpowered the flavorings in the dish above what the seafood could tolerate. We finished with their homemade fruit sorbet, this night it was a mix of passionfruit guava and orange. It was good, but my friend said their mango sorbet was better. Other than the fact that there were toddlers seated near me and I was expecting a quiet atmosphere, the food was good, the views are always great on the Ruston waterfront and the service was spectacular.

We came in around 7:40 after calling at 7:30, a I was extremely worried since the website said they close at 8. I never want to be that guest who keeps the team late, so we made sure to ask multiple times if it was okay and that we wouldn’t be upsetting the kitchen by coming in close to closing. Every single person we spoke to especially the host team was incredibly kind and welcoming. They reassured us and made us feel completely comfortable about coming in. When we arrived, we were greeted with smiles and seated right away with edamame and water. I started asking for menu recommendations, and Kamalani went above and beyond! She shared several options, described each dish in detail, and clearly knew the menu inside and out. She wasn’t even our server, but she absolutely deserves recognition for her attentiveness and genuine enthusiasm. I’d love to see her as a server next time we dine here! Our server, Genevieve, was equally wonderful friendly, knowledgeable, and on point with her timing and recommendations. The entire team worked together everyone was attentive without being intrusive. The food itself was excellent. Our ribeye was cooked perfectly medium rare, flavorful, and definitely a high-quality cut. Every dish we ordered was balanced. A great sense of professionalism, warmth, and genuine hospitality. The Woven team really hit the mark tonight, and we’ll absolutely be back. The ribeye will definitely be our go-to every visit!

Awesome place to be for seafood and cocktails. I've ordered the Brussels sprouts as an appetizer twice now, and they are second to none. The last time I went I tried the miso blackened cod, and no exaggeration, it was probably the best cod I've ever had. I'm definitely looking forward to exploring more of the menu and enjoying the outdoor seating when it warms up again. I'd highly recommend getting a reservation before going, as it can get pretty packed around 6-7.

Google
Our server Zack was great! The food was fantastic and there are so many options to explore from a Thai dish to Sushi or just a good old fashioned pork chop. Overall it was great. The open grill does make it smell a little smokey inside so if you're sensative to that.... otherwise highly recommend

Google
The beautiful open door waterfront seating was perfect for our last night vacay dinner. The hostess staff was very friendly and attentive. We had a reservation, we were seated quickly and drinks came on time. The salmon was great, also good oysters but the cod was bland. Service guy was adequate in all respects but slightly salty in attitude. 2 apps, 2 cocktails, 2 entrees , one desert was easily the priciest meal we’ve enjoyed in 2025 so far.

Google
A very nice splurge dinner! We sat outside and really enjoyed the view. Service was attentive and friendly. The food was absolutely delicious! We had the pho ribs, cedar plank salmon and the build-your-own dinner with shrimp and udon noodles. All were perfect!

Yelp
Had a reservation for a work dinner with my colleagues. Started the night with the Pineapple Martini, which was strong and good. For appetizers, we had the seafood pillows and ribs. Seafood pillows were definitely "sturdy", having a bit of a chew to them, but flavor-wise they were great, and the sauce and garnish were really nice. The ribs weren't the best idea to order at a work dinner, where you don't want to look like a barbarian eating lol, but they were good flavor, just weren't easy to cut off the bones. For my enteee, I got the miso black cod, which was awesome. Fish was cooked perfectly and tastes great. The succotash and black rice also paired nicely with it. They do have the option to do the cod with a different set of sides, but I liked the chef's recommendation. Ambiance was nice, even though we came when it was dark outside, so we couldn't soak up the water view. Overall, solid food, great service, and great ambiance.

Yelp
Hey Loves, Let's get into the details about Woven!! At first I did not want to go to Woven due to health issues I am not the biggest fan of Asian cuisine. However, I reviewed the menu and saw some dishes that peaked my interest and appetite. The slow cooked ribs and the lamb ragu. So I was excited to try it out. *Side note Woven is under the well know chef and owner Roy Yamaguchi who oversees restaurants in Hawaii* I love a good day night so we went on a Tuesday night made reservations about 30 minutes prior and yall we had an amazing booth with a great view. The newly remodeled restaurant is modern and chic. Very spacious and upscale. Our waitress Alejandra was special and so great to speak to. All tables receive edamame to start. The edamame was served cold and is a bit spicy in a yummy subtle hint in the back of the throat. Next, we had the bread and so so good cilantro butter. Yall get this ASAP! For entrees I order the Lamb Ragu and the hubs order the Bavette. This is a steak and you can select your sides. My husband went with the Hawaiian sides which has rice and kimchi etc. The steak was seared to perfection and sides were nicely seasoned. The Lamb ragu was everything and then some. Pasta was FRESH AND AL DENTE!!! The sauce was full and rich. It was delicious and made me fill warm and cozy on a cold PNW night. I also ordered a Mai Tai. It was also tasty. Since I lived in Hawaii I know a good Mai Tai this one needed a bit more liquor and foam. Lastly, we had the fruit cobbler. This cobbler sadden me. It to me was a fruity soup. Very little crust. When I think of cobbler I think of a warm yet firm dough holding the fruit. This was very loose with a scoop of mascarpone. Still a 4 out of 5 despite the dessert. Please check the place out and see for yourself how great it is!

Yelp
Went to Woven to celebrate something the wife and I achieved, we live in Eatonville and traveled pretty far because we heard good things about it from our friends that live in Tacoma. They meet us there to celebrate. The wife and I got there early and sat at the bar, the bartenders were very friends and made great drinks and explained the menu. Great service and attitude from the bar no complaints. We walked down the stairs with the lady from the front desk and were seated near the windows. It was very dark, so dark we could hardly see our menu's. We literally used our phones to see the fine print on the menus. Same thing when the food came out. It was ridiculously hard to see. I ask a waitress walking by if she could dim the lights up a tad and she said she couldn't. "That was the ambience". Once we got our food myself and one of our friends that also ordered a steak didn't receive knives to cut them with. So we ask for some steak knives and our server brought out butter knives. I told him "you brought us butter knives to cut our steaks?" And he promptly said those are our steak knives. I then lifted the butter knife up that came with the rolls and chef choice butter and said theses are literally the exact same thing. They even had the same engraving stamped on them. Literally the same. And he just shrugged his shoulders and said "that's just what we use for steak knives here". It was just too dark. The food was ok, I had the ribeye and for $75 it was not worth it. The wife had the salmon on the cedar plank and that was delicious! For the 1hr plus drive, okish service, very expensive food and $18+ drinks our $250 bill was not worth it. I wouldn't recommend it.

Yelp
Lunch with 10 other people. Food was delicious and service was good but food was slow to come out of the kitchen and came out of the kitchen at different times for each person. Lunch took a long time. I ordered the "seafood pillows" to split with my wife. We go 4 small elongated ravioli like pastas in a delicious sauce. I did not think they were worth $19. They were out of all the $5-7 beers and only had beers that were $10 or more. We had 1 appetizer, 2 mains and 2 beers and with tax and tip, it was about $106.

Yelp
Was intially super stoked to try this place as it has a partnership with the local Puyallup tribe. Ruston parking is notorious for being difficult depending on when you go. I'd recommend car pooling if you can. Once inside, if you're sensitive to smell, this place may not be for you as they have an open grill inside. The smoke smell can be a bit much tbh. But I would recommend reservations if you can. Esp if you want a seat by the water or outside (of course weather permitting). We started with the salmon dip which came with fry bread. This was prob the fave even with the entree (but i think they changed this out for a seafood dip). The poke bowl wasn't that great. The fish were cut in huge chunks and there was little flavor but so much rice. The shrimp dish came with 5 shrimp, rice and something else as a side. I think its the Ocean Coast shrimp with the Hawaii set. This dish was just okay too. Service was kinda slow and it wasn't too busy when we went. We waited a while for refills and especially to get the bill at the end.

Yelp
My wife and I came here for a last minute date night dinner and we thought it was great. We got the seafood paella that came w/ risotto (we didn't care for the risotto), I believe it was a New York steak, roasted Brussel sprouts, half dozen oysters, and my wife got a couple drinks that she loved. The serving is family style, which means you share the dishes if you'd like. We love doing this so we can taste each plate and because we're just used to it. Woven over looks the water which is nice and if you're there at night, the ambiance is great especially for a date night getaway. The service was great til the end. We were ready for the check but couldn't find our waiter for about 30 minutes so we had to ask another waitress to find him and check us out!

Yelp
Tried brunch and it was great!. Great view, fresh food...the salmon dip with the Fry bread was amazing, have come here for dinner and while it was great. The brunch was even better. Wasn't too busy and staff were all super nice and attentive.

Yelp
The location is spectacular and right on the ocean. The service was very mindful of the sunshine blaring on the windows and lowered shades without us having to ask. The food was good but not great. I think they are trying to do a lot with the menu and while there are lots of choices, they could benefit from downsizing the choices and focusing a fewer items. We ordered the seafood pillows which were tasty but the sauce overwhelmed the flavor of the pork and shrimp. We also ordered the lamb pasta and it was by far the favorite dish at the table. We ordered the New York steak and risotto and both were okay, but lacked flavor and neither were stand out items. The children's menu is great and I loved that they were flexible in the fresh catch options and my son loved. Overall it was good and the location was great but we do not have any plans to return in the near future.

Yelp
We love this service here! Amit was very helpful and attentive. I recommend this place for dinner and they currently have Tacoma Espresso Martini week happening. My favorite is fried crab roll and brussel sprouts! Check them out, it's a must!

Yelp
Woven has gorgeous decor and prime waterfront views. The presentation of the food is visually beautiful and the menu seems well thought out. However, some execution/seasoning is missing to give the food five stars. The shrimp "pillows" aka dumplings were slightly undercooked so the wrapper was tough, but then the filling was somehow overcooked bc the filling to wrapper ratio is off. The short rib loco moco should be a flavor explosion but it lacks both enough salt to season the meat and acid to cut through the richness. The miso cod was good, maybe slightly overcharred but I think the wasabi ginger beurre blanc sauce could use some reworking to complement the fish in a more meaningful way. Perhaps it's more of a consistency issue vs a flaw with the menu. Overall, it's a great restaurant that's perfect for a date night or a celebration. I want to note that the service is friendly and attentive and there is ample parking.

Yelp
We didn't make reservations but we were able to snag seats at the bar. The view is incredible- make sure to make reservations so you can get a table overlooking the ocean. And go at sunset!! Food is delicious and I had the miso cod. It was a little dry. Would have been better if it was more moist. Don't expect free bread - they charge for bread service.

Yelp
We had a great experience for our last minute anniversary dinner recently at Woven. Great service - upon arrival front desk asked if we had an occasion and quickly shared with the team that we had an anniversary. They placed a little sign on our table which was thoughtful. The food was spectacular. The black cod melts in your mouth and is so so flavorful! My husband ha Beautiful waterfront view, aesthetic restaurant design. We will definitely be back.

Yelp
Service from waitress was great, the food took a bit longer than expected. Especially that there were only 4 other tables at 1pm on a Thursday. I got the burger in which I will never eat again. It was very dry. Everything else that I tried wasn't bad though. The salmon was great, the seafood chowder I was told was excellent as well. The restaurant itself was clean and the bathrooms were very clean!!! I will give it another shot.

Linda H.

Yelp
Food served did not warrant the prices charged, I will not be back. The service was adequate, not great but the server was very nice.

Yelp
First time visit. Wait staff was good explaining the menu, drinks and availability. They did fall short not knowing how the open pit cook would prepare steaks based on cut. I typically have my steaks medium but not bloody. Our waiter said that is "medium well". My steak came too done and I was disappointed as a result. Please have that cook come to the table to discuss the cuts and cooking or grilling recommendations or recommend they speak to that cook before ordering. The ambience here is amazing. This is a Roy Yamaguchi establishment so I was expecting the same experience I have had at his Hawaii locations. It was up there but still needs some fine tuning with waiters talking to cooks that prepare food with personal preferences like steak to be on the same page. Everything else was amazing, beautiful establishment and great staff. I did provide feedback about my steak experience and I hope they consider that in the future. The food was amazing and I would recommend a visit!

Yelp
We celebrated an event at Woven and were thoroughly impressed. Zach, or "Z Man" was our server and he was very knowledgeable about the menu and pairings. We sat outside and the view was perfect. Ladies, it's grate flooring so be careful in heels. The Brussel sprouts were perfectly fried. My ragu was great, but my husband's short ribs were a little dry. We will be back to try several other items on the menu.

Kyle S.

Yelp
1. Had good service 2. Not cool to charge 3% to use my CC,. Did they want me to write them a check? 3. Taking our appetizer order with our entrée order, didn't make sense to us. It also threw off the timing of our drink orders. We would have enjoyed our 2nd round of drinks with our dinner rather than after our dinner. 4. Won't be going back
google avatar

Yelp
Loved everything about this place! From the service to the cocktails to the incredible seafood. Everything about our experience was 10/10.

Yelp
3.9 is a fair rating. Most of the stars I will give to the service and the atmosphere. This is a place to take your out of town guests to (for the view and sophisticated Native American inspired decor). They offer a very interesting menu inspired by Chef Roy Yamaguchi from Hawaii and a few PNW staples like cedar plank salmon and fresh oysters. We went for Brunch. The Food: We took kids with us and the kids get an appetizer that comes with their meals. Honestly, my picky 6yo could've just ate this appetizer which consisted of a quesadilla, ranch, carrots and celery along with berries. Very cutely plated "fancy" app for the kids. The Kids Short Rib Loco Moco is a hefty serving! I think the short rib itself could've used more seasoning. My kid asked to skip the furakaki on the rice which would've added the lack in seasoning. Overall, kid approved restaurant. We ordered the fried spam roll, adobo chicken wings, and seafood pouches (potstickers). Fried spam roll was ok. Very little spam in there. It wasn't a show stopper. I wouldn't order it again. The steamed seafood "pouch" was overcooked and all I could taste was the pork. The adobo chicken wings could've been more crisp. Nothing to rave about there. The star of the whole meal was absolutely the Miso Glazed Cod! So memorable. So craveable. I have been dreaming of this since eating it. The fish was glazed and cooked to perfection. Flaky, moist, and the beurre blank it was sitting on was amazing. Look how vibrant and smooth that sauce is! I will be coming back just for this dish. Also, to taste the dinner menu. Side note: Their in house Green Godess dressing is also delicious! Kresta, YOU ROCK!

Yelp
I know the reviews are spotty, but on our night we had an excellent experience. The Misoyaki Cod is unique and exceptional. Great flavors and it had a great plate presence. The Pho infused ribs were also very good, but they did look lonely on the plate they were served on. The Pokè Bowl was very fresh. We passed on the cocktail list and instead ordered a proper old fashion. It was nicely done. Herb was our server and did a nice job. Overall I think the server team could use more in depth training on the nuances of the menu. Several questions we posed were answered with "let me ask the chef". We arrived before sunset. Be aware the sun may shine right on your table, which was annoying. The views are stupendous. They have a beautiful deck, but it won't be open until Mother's Day. Pricing is not out of line with what is happening today. I'd love to come back when the deck is open.

Yelp
We had a reservation for 4 pm and were running late.... Like 20 mins late and they still happily accommodated us! Service was great! Our serve Mike was the best! He shared his recommendations with us and answered any questions we had. The food was delicious - I can't wait to come back and try the dishes I didn't get to try this time around. The ambiance? Fancy! Beautiful! And a vibe! 11/10!

Yelp
Great addition to the Tacoma waterfront restaurant-sphere. The interior design greets you with Pacific Northwest elegance. The indoor atmosphere is cozy, yet upscale, and the outdoor atmosphere is refreshing and not too crowded. Each visit, we have loved our waitstaff and thoroughly enjoyed the food. At this point, we have tried a large variety of the menu and have not had a dish yet that misses the mark. Save room for desert, if you can! The flowerless chocolate cake and the crème brûlée are amazing!

Yelp
Sis heard that Roy Yamaguchi had opened this restaurant so she was eager to try. We dropped in hoping for seats at the bar and luckily we found them right before sunset. The bar area is on the wrong side of the restaurant to see the sunset, especially our seats, but we could see a litle of it through our windows. We had the bread service that came with compound butter. They were fine, but I think you shouldn't have to pay for bread service when they're taking it out of what tasted like a King's Hawaiian bag of rolls. We sat across from the grilling station where the firepit was, which was fun so we could watch them grill our food. I had the pork collar which was a tender cut of meet, while Sis tried the miso cod. It was good, but the cod was a very small portion and to be honest, I've had better. For dessert we tried the coconut rice pudding covered in berries and it was sooooo good. Our waiter was the bar tender and he was nice, but as soon as the food was changed, he stopped checking in on usk, It was a nice dinner.

Yelp
First time there, the Hawaiian style restaurant was very airy and pleasant. The large windows give a great view of Commencement Bay. The four of us sat by the windows and had cocktails to begin with. We were served edemame that had a slight spiciness and coated in sesame oil. A little messy to eat by hand, but tasty. We didn't order it so it must just be something they serve to everyone. We had the rib, bread, and seafood wonton apps. The five ribs were tender and very good. The bread came as small buns and were a Hawaiian style sweetbread. We thought the wontons would be deep fried like Rangoon, but were steamed like dim sum. I had the poke, which was served like Japanese Chirashi on a bed of rice. One person had the fish and chips. Another had the seafood pasta, and my GF had the miso black cod, which is her go-to seafood, and rated it good. All in all the dinner was pleasant and the serve was very good. Our server was friendly and helpful with the menu. My only true regret about Woven was the lack of Hawaiian style foods. Aside from the poke this was pretty much another surf and turf restaurant with a nice view. Dinner for four was $320, including tip.

Yelp
Tried out Woven on Monday - we were early and requested to go to the bar. Bar area is large and open seating including a number of chairs and tables to lounge at along the side window. The bartender was helpful in making suggestions on what to order- we ended up with the hamachi crudo, crab artichoke dip, Miso black cod, and salmon (with rapini and garlic fries). We really enjoyed our food! I thought the portions were good and execution was excellent. The crab artichoke dip (fry bread) is not something we'd normally get but we thought it had a nice lightness from the lemon and you could tell that there was crab in it. The crisp was spicy and delicious! I loved the miso black cod with the wasabi sauce and squash and black rice. My husband raved about it as well. His salmon (cedar plank I think?) was cooked perfectly. We didn't get dessert because we were too full, dinner wasn't cheap or notably expensive and we thought it was worth it.

Yelp
This was my first time trying Woven. I've been wanting to go here for some time! The decor is just beautiful when you come in the door and it's a very clean and nice restaurant. The bathrooms are so nice and clean and modern as well. The employees are so friendly! and the service was excellent. I really liked the menu, but I'm hoping this is the type of restaurant that changes the menu by the season. The dishes on it currently are really unique and look very tasty but it would be neat to come back with a different menu once in a while instead of always having the same choices. I think there's a lot of potential for different dishes on the menu as well as more steak options since it is a chophouse. I really enjoyed my miso black cod with the noodle option, however it was just lukewarm. I didn't want to say anything because it was still so delicious and we all had our food I did not want to wait for another plate to come out. I really wanna come here again it was just such a nice atmosphere and the food was just outstanding!

Yelp
Actually 3.5 stars The remodel is sleek and great use of space and views. Service was good. Food was good but not amazing. The artichoke dip was the highlight with rich flavors and the fry read was unique and delicious. This short ribs were good but the scalloped potatoes felt dated and dry. And the veggies had potatoes redundant and could use some real greens. The Cod was cooked wonderfully but flavors a bit one note. Kids menu with free quesadilla and some fruit was nice touch before the tiles get their main course. Good experience and will return but still looking for that must go to place in the 253

Yelp
My friends took me here it was such a treat. Service was excellent the staff was so friendly made great recommendations. We sat outside it was a beautiful day. The food was excellent we got the pho inspired ribs and seafood pillow to start. The ribs were my favorite they were so tender and flavorful. You get edamame. When seated it had great flavor not too spicy just a little on the oily side however we still really enjoyed them. I got the short ribs as my main and they were fork tender and delicious. Dessert was so great we shared and it was easy to share two desserts between three people.

Yelp
Come for the atmosphere and experience. The staff are very friendly and helpful. This place is beautiful the artwork and decor are off the hook. I had the miso cod which I did enjoy but found it to be on the sweet side and a bit one note. My Mom had the Loco moco which was a bit bland. I would like to go back and try the happy hour menu it had some interesting offerings.
google avatar

Kelly S.

Yelp
It's Shenanigan's re-made into a modern, contemporary spot. View is nice. Seating is interesting. Different sections with a mix of booths and tables. If you end up at the lower level of tables, the acoustics are such that it's loud and you just get a diner feel unless you sit around the edges. Food-wise, we got: 1) Brussels sprouts - 4/5. good, but a little salty 2) pho ribs - 3/5. salty and dry 3) seafood omelette - 3/5. Not enough seafood 4) pesto pasta - 2/5. Boring 5) loco moco - 3/5. Instead of a patti, it was braised meat w/ a different take on gravy 6) tomato benedict - 3/5. Potatoes were good, but also boring. Nothing to write home about here food-wise, but maybe a good place to have coffee with a friend if you can snag a window seat.

Yelp
Finally got the chance to stop in here during lunch, so it wasn't super busy. What a great make-over this building has undergone. I'm super happy to see the Tribe putting some money into the local community and bringing this building back from the dead. We were greeted by a very friendly hostess who showed us to our table along the window wall, with a great view of the sound. Our waitress was also very friendly and attentive. Overall I'd say the service was top notch, zero complaints. I ended up settling on the Poke Bowl, although there's several items on this menu that looked amazing. It was very fresh, plated nicely and the fish was fresh and had great flavor. The decor is really refreshing, modern and beautiful. Overall I'm pretty impressed with this place and really looking forward to coming back.

Yelp
This has been on my list of places to go and I'm so happy I finally went. The food was amazing! I'm not a big seafood person but I did try my friend's sushi appetizer and fish entree and it was delicious and fresh. I got the pho ribs with fries and omg the ribs are to die for. So flavor and tender every bite was mouth watering delicious!! Our server was amazing and tentative to every need we had and the restaurant was clean decorated well! Will definitely be back!

Yelp
The service and ambience was 10 out of 10!! However the food left a lot to be desired. I'm not sure if they are just not strong with their pasta, but as you'll see in the photos below, the presentation was not great. And the food was not great as well. My food was definitely bland. We were actually very disappointed. I'm hoping Woven can redeem itself with us trying their sushi with the chefs Hawaiian background? We may be back for a patio day, we'll see!

Yelp
Newly open in 2024 Fall, Woven has become a popular seafood choice added to Ruston Way (- over 3 miles of hiking walk on paved trail) packed with restaurants along the beach shoreline. Started with Seafood Pillows $19 (pork, crab, shrimp, chilli soy vinagrette, fried garlic) and Pho-inspired Baby Back Ribs $21. The pork ribs was kind of dry, no kind of "baby" at all; and it was a huge plate, more like a main course other than a appetizer. Main dishes were Misoyaki Glazed Black Cod $33 (heirloom succotash wild rice, lomi tomato, wasabi beurre blanc, sesame seed), and Paella $34 (clams, mussels, shrimp, chorizo, long beans, roasted tomato, cotija). The cod was cooked in a great way, that not too oily (like some steamed cod), mixed with all flavors from what it covered. And the juicy taste remained on the last piece of the rice. In general the cook presented all dishes very well. The menu looks quite unique and refreshing, comparing to other traditional seafood restaurant. The cuisine was kind of some Asian (with more Japanese style/names) but bit of modern fashion. However, the service rating was much higher than food itself, even if the atmosphere could be rated like 5-star.

Yelp
The ambience was a very modern themed restaurant with great staff and the water view was excellent. Wanted to give happy hour a try and it was pretty good and portion size wasn't bad. Garlic parmesan fries were made to perfection, Crispy fried crab futomaki was yummy but seems a little blan, Lamb ragu pappardelle pasta was good, and last but not least the Seafood pillows was sour tasting, not sure from how much vinaigrette or lemons they used. Will give this place another try and see if other items are better.

Yelp
We came in around 7:40 after calling at 7:30, a I was extremely worried since the website said they close at 8. I never want to be that guest who keeps the team late, so we made sure to ask multiple times if it was okay and that we wouldn't be upsetting the kitchen by coming in close to closing. She wasn't even our server, but she absolutely deserves recognition for her attentiveness and genuine enthusiasm. I'd love to see her as a server next time we dine here! The Woven team really hit the mark tonight, and we'll absolutely be back. The ribeye will definitely be our go-to every visit!

Yelp
Okay, here's an update Yelppers! Woven is definitely the spot! My first review is still similar when it comes to service, DAMN DA BEST! From start to finish, they did not cease to disappoint! The dinner recommendations were spot on and the transition to the bar after was seamless! The ambiance, beautiful as always as they have a country, Native American, Hawaii build. The head Chef, Dexter, was spot on with his flavors! Braddah is from our home town and he brings the Hawaii vibe to the place. Mahalo for the night of great food! The bar manager also custom made us a few drinks and one that is not on the menu, he calls it Angel (haha, maybe he was joking with us). Check this place out! Recommend around sunset time, beautiful views with awesome drinks and food!

Yelp
We came for an anniversary brunch and had a great table near the deck doors. With an early reservation we were seated immediately by a friendly hostess who explained the concept of Woven (no spoilers). Our server arrived promptly and we started with a hot tea and the seafood pillows. We also placed an order for the seafood omelet skillet and the brunch special biscuits and gravy (based on the server's recommendation). The seafood pillows were very good - sort of a broad gyoza style dish. The filling was excellent and I loved the toasted garlic on top. The seafood omelette was excellent and the sauce was superb. The Japanese sweet potato biscuits tasted great. However, the mushroom gravy was super rich (you could certainly taste the mushrooms!) and that overpowered the biscuits on some bites. Overall, a great dish - just something to be aware of. Service was excellent throughout our visit. Everyone was attentive and friendly. Ambiance-wise you can't beat Woven. The artistic contributions of the Puyallup people cannot be overstated. The restaurant is very pleasant. I would recommend a stop at Woven when in Tacoma.

Yelp
Phenomenal Asian/Indigenous seafood place right on the bay. We stopped here for lunch on Tuesday and it was very relaxed and more lowkey. Parking was a breeze and getting seated without a reservation at this time went smoothly. Our server was attentive and overall nice. We ordered clam chowder, pho inspired beef ribs, seafood pillows, beef loco moco, oysters, and a sushi roll. Everything was delicious. The oysters are a little pricey, but very fresh and have a perfect natural saltiness. The beef ribs were a fantastic dish as well. It was savory, but could use more pho spices like anise and cardamom to really successfully claim the pho inspiration. The seafood pillows were a little lacking in my opinion. It was like 4 seafood dumplings for $19. Everything was on the more upscale side, but maybe lacked something to push it to that level. The flavor was good but not anything new or exciting. I would definitely come back, but a second trip is not necessary. I will say the view was amazing!

Yelp
What an absolutely amazing restaurant and experience! The food was spot on, as described by our amazing waiter, Michael! Providing us with her suggestions was very helpful in making up our final decision. The seafood was perfectly prepared and fresh in flavor.

Yelp
Food. Absolutely loved every bite. We went a little overboard since it was my best friend's birthday dinner. The half shell oysters were sublime, the hamachi crudo was excellent. I forget what my friend ordered it was tasty. Service: our server was very nice and sweet. Ambiance: the lighting could have been a little brighter, but the view of the sound made it so much better.

Yelp
Have been wanting to try this place as it kept popping up on my sm feed and was able to get a same day reservation on a Friday night for 7:45. I loved the design of the restaurant. The design is modern with tribal touches which I love! The service was ok. The check in was a bit weird. We checked in and then two other host or employees came and asked if we were checked in while we were waiting. The service was a bit slow but everyone was nice. Drinks were pretty good. But forgot to take photos. The menu looked yummy so we ordered a bit of everything. The appetizers were pretty small. Seems more individual sized verses for sharing. We are huge foodies and even for fine dining or compared to other Roy's restaurants we have been to, the appetizers weren't great for sharing. We ordered 5 appetizers and were worried that we might end up leaving hungry given the size of them. The main meals were pretty good. I got the black cod - delicious My dad got the salmon - he loved it My husband got the poke bowl - it was ok. Probably would not recommend. Which is disappointing. He ended up ordering a sushi roll - it was pretty good. Wasn't expecting the best since it's not a sushi restaurant. It was also my birthday and the free dessert was delicious. All in all I would try them again but maybe just for the main course and dessert. And maybe try to reserve a table by the water view. They also have a private room that looks gorgeous.

Yelp
I'm always up for a road trip to try some good food. When MB put this on my radar, I immediately made a reservation to celebrate our wedding anniversary. The food was good. The seafood pillow was a dumpling sitting in a sauce and overpriced IMO. Poke bowl was good - fresh and flavorful. Entrees were good - hubby enjoyed the chicken and waffle, which came with a spicy, flavorful half chicken. He would've liked the waffle to be crispier. Daughter enjoyed her bison burger. I was disappointed they were out of the popular shortrib loco moco, so I opted for the Seafood Louie, which was more like a wedge salad with fresh crab, two tempura prawns and house made Green Goddess dressing. Our server, Kresta, was amazing. I appreciate her providing updates on our order and comping us our drinks and two panna cottas when there was a mishap with our stone fruit cobbler order. While the panna cotta was not on my radar, it was quite delicious with the fresh berries, berry puree and homemade granola. Woven is a beautiful and scenic restaurant on the water with great service.

Yelp
Every experience here has been fantastic. Living in Tacoma for five years now, I've had many disappointing nights out, but none here. The first time my wife, son, and I visited, we were immediately impressed by the ambiance and the menu choices. The approach to the children's menu is better than anything I've seen anywhere in the world. When you walk in with a child, they send a ticket to the kitchen and quickly start a small appetizer plate for them, featuring a cheese quesadilla, some crudités veggies, and fresh fruit. This arrives at the table before you can even order your drinks, and I mean that in a very good way! Then there are a few entrée options for the kids, followed by dessert. All of this costs around $20. It's my son's favorite place, and ours too :-) Keep up the great work!

Yelp
We loved our experience at Woven! Fabulous service, beautiful ambiance, and delicious food, this was a treat. Without a reservation, we only had to wait a few minutes before we were seated. We were promptly greeted by Patrick who offered comprehensive, unhurried explanations of anything we were curious about and provided great recommendations. He was flattering to the point of being suspicious - it was an odd coincidence that *every* dish we selected was one of his favorites. But he was very kind and smoothly guided us through our first visit. Woven enjoys a panoramic view of the Puget Sound, and we spent a long time staring out at the water. Later on, they lowered the blinds to block the setting sun, so get there early. Hearing the kitchen shout out numbers in unison was a fun touch that showcased the professionalism on display. Rather than get separate entrees, we decided to sample 5 shareable plates, which was a great (if expensive) choice. Each plate was outstanding, served in unique, imaginative plates. The only critique we had was that the Salmon Roll sauce was very mayo heavy. Disappointingly, there were also a fair amount of flies buzzing around. They were mostly overhead and rarely intruded on the meal, but it still detracts from the luxurious atmosphere they're projecting.

Yelp
In their features they list they are dog friendly. They are NOT. They only allow service dogs, so I don't know why they would put dog friendly as one of their features since it is misleading. We showed up just after they opened and were told they only allow service dogs, so we asked if we could still order to go, of which they had to ask as they don't normally do that. We were lucky enough to still be able to order, I got the kimchi wings, and food wise it was mid, but since I only ordered the wings I cannot speak on the more expensive dishes(my 4 non kimchi tasting wings were like $19 though).

Yelp
Great service! Beautiful atmosphere on the inside, great decor that fits the vibe. BEAUTIFUL windows over looking the water. The food was delicious. We had the 2 sushi tools (salmon and spicy tuna) with the furukaki rice and shared crab dip with Brussels sprouts. Tried the martini - on the sweeter side, but VERY strong, for those of us who don't like alcohol tasting drinks. Friend got the Mai Thai And traded me it was yummy. Also enjoyed the taro cinnamon bun which was also delicious.

Yelp
This is my favorite restaurant on the Tacoma waterfront. Better than Wildfin, Copper+Salt, Harbor Lights and Lobster Shop. The food is not heavy or formula. The flavors are thoughtful and not over structured. I highly recommend the Miso Cod and the Cedar Plank Salmon. The service is amazing. On a sunny day they can open the sliding doors and it extends the outdoor seating space. Only downside is the loud fan over the grill. Ask for a table away from the grill.

Yelp
Had a great time at Ray's. Felt like we were in Hawaii. Beautiful restaurant and excellent service. Everything was perfectly displayed and served. Patrick had an awesome smile and genuine care for our happiness. Hospitality is of the highest importance here. Delivering delicious goods at the perfect timing. Impressive experience. Will be back for more. Thank you for sharing your Ohana feeling, it made our day.
