Carlsbad’s Newest Eatery Pairs Fast-Casual Barbecue and Cocktails - Eater San Diego

"WR Kitchen & Bar brings wood-fired meats in a casual, counter-service setting to The Square at Bressi Ranch, joining a lineup of eateries that already includes Richard Walker’s Pancake House, Casero Taqueria, and Mendocino Farms. Opening today, the Carlsbad location is just the second for the brand, which is an offshoot of the SoCal-based Wood Ranch chain. The 3,900 square-foot space, which includes a large patio, is fueled by an open kitchen that serves up its signature wood-fired proteins, from pasture-raised tri tip to oak-smoked brisket, Carolina pulled pork, and fire-roasted chicken. Several meats are now also available as taco fillings, along with roasted cauliflower and wood-grilled Atlantic salmon. The quick-service menu is rounded out by starters, salads, burgers, and sandwiches. Offering an extended happy hour, from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. on weekdays, the eatery also includes a full bar that pours beer, wine, a good selection of American whiskey, and cocktails that range from a frozen rose slushy to margaritas and Old Fashioneds." - Candice Woo

Really wish I could give a half star. If so, this would be a 3.5. Since I have never been here before, I will give them the benefit of the doubt and say that with our unique COVID situation, they are doing a good job with the set up. That being said neither the food nor the service was exceptional. Trying several different dishes none of them really stood out as exceptional. The best dish, and yes I would recommend it, would be the brisket tacos. With so many great options, this will not be revisited for a while. We’ll look forward to seeing how things go on our next try.

It was really good! The WR TT it's so delicious and a big portion. Price is also accurate to the portion for the meal ... The Mac it's so creamy and so so good. As a starter we got the suchito peppers. Not spicy but really tasty and good portion. The TT sandwich it's another great option to try . The bread was so soft and I liked that it was more of the meat than bread. They also give you their house garlic bread ... My only complain is about the drinks. We ordered a WR old fashion .. it was just a normal old fashion when it comes to taste but unfortunately so so so so small .. not even half of a 6oz glass . Overall we would go back but just for the food

Food: Great! We got an impossible burger and a regular cheeseburger, both done well. We are picky fry eaters and these were perfectly crispy with the skin still on. The market side salad is a bit unique, with chunky croutons and corn kernels. Those complementary garlic rolls are a fantastic way to start off a meal. Service: super friendly staff! Ambiance: only outdoor seating now and it's as good as it gets in a suburban shopping center :) Only minor recommendation would be for the team to move the host stand closer to the patio whole indoor dining isn't allowed, a lot of the guests were confused about where to go to check in!

So. Good. The food is amazing. I really like how their free water is bottled and can be poured at the table! Very convenient. Pictured is the pulled pork sandwich with Mac n cheese. We had a large group and got all our food quickly and it was all accurate. Great employees always checking up on us and making sure we were satisfied.

Okay food and smaller portions. Cool layout and great staff. They need to provide all of their bbq sauces without having to ask for them. Overall, a $40 dinner for two that was barely okay. Spend that much at Felix’s and you’ll be rolling through the parking lot with a huge smile on your face.

Wood Ranch was one of our favorites for years. Unfortunately the value has dropped through the floor (like with many restaurants as other costs surge). One of our favorite items is the BBQ Chopped salad. It used to be twice the size with much higher quality meat and included avocado. Now meat and avocado are extras and with lower quality meat and the salad at half its size. The value is less than 1/4 what it used to be -- yet still at about the same price. It is still a tasty salad, but given the price for what you get it's not a great value. We tried the macaroni & cheese for the first time today. It was a hit with the kids and was very good (similar to Urban Plates mac&cheese if you've had that). Overall cool ambiance and friendly staff; we like the modern touch at this location. Pricey for what you get and the meat quality has slipped significantly from what it once was. Even the cool looking skillets are plastic (kind of reflects the quality of the meat).

Nice spot with a larger than expected happy hour menu. Didn’t stay long but could definitely see this place being busy during lunch.

My first experience here was not great. Small portions, all sides all a la carte. Watery BBQ sauce and not great quality pork.
