Mama Frans BBQ

Pork ribs were superbly slow cooked, tender, moist meat falling off the bone. BBQ beans were among the best ever I've had, with a nuanced seasing flavor that tasted like ham. Brisket was slightly dry but not too much or something BBQ sauce can help along. Jalapena cornbread with just the right level of bite -very unique version of cornbread. Mac and cheese classically good, slightly browned for a bit of crispy edging to contrast with the soft center parts. Were were warmly greeted by Mama herself who came out the kitchen for a quick chat. She has a very interesting background story about how she met her opportunity to follow her passion and gifting of presenting some of the most amazing BBQ in the area. Her place along with Robert Earl's are swiftly moving the LBC to legend status among California local owned and operated BBQ destinations! A few nice tables to sit and eat there in a friendly, festive and BBQ scented dining room. Next time will try one of the yummy looking homemade desserts of bread pudding, lemon cake, or strawberry cake. A wonderful celebration of southern style BBQ in the heart of the LBC. Check it out. You WILL NOT be disappointed. And tell your BNBQ aficionado friends too.

5 stars all around. I did a too good to go order and I had rib tips and Mac and cheese. It was so good I ate it on the car ride home. The Mac and cheese was good! It reminded me of my grandmas. Definitely a great first time experience.

Food is great! My first experience here was 4th of july 2023. I knew they would be busy, so i called hours ahead for my pick up order and when i got there it wasn't ready because my ticket was buried under other orders and was missed. So i had to wait additional time for my food, per why i ordered ahead. Smdh. And my portions was small!! Second time around, i wanted to try chicken but they were out. The guy that took my order seemed like he didnt want to be there, no smile, no greeting, just no customer service skills what so ever. Food came out fast, bigger portions this time. Just dont know why both times bbq sauce was in my greens, i dont like that. UPDATE: MAY 2025 IDK IF THEY CHANGED OWNERS CUZ WHO IS MAMA FRANS? ANYWAYS, EVERYBODY READING THE NEGATIVE REVIEWS UNDER NEW OWNERSHIP, THEY ARE NOT LYING! GOT FOOD TODAY AND THE GREENS WERE BLAND NO SEASON. MAC AND CHEESE WAS WET & SOGGY. BEANS WERE OK. RIBS WAS WHATEVER, BUT I FEEL LIKE THEY CUT THEM IN HALF TO MAKE IT SEEM LIKE YOU GOT MORE THAN WHAT YOU PAID FOR. PORTIONS HELLA SMALL! NEVER AGAIN WILL THEY GET MY MONEY! SMDH! BRING WRIGLEY BBQ GRILL BACK!!! I ALSO CHANGED MY RATING TO A ONE STAR NOW.

Food is good and they were quick to prepare. There is parking right in front. The bbq sauce is really good. It has a little spiciness to it bit its not hot at all. And the bbq beans and mac and cheese are good as well. Finally they have good size servings and there is alot of meat. Ill be back to try more of the menu. Update, tried the ribs. So good ND again ots of meat and a good price for the dinner meal. They are so friendly and nice people. So glad we were in the area to stop by today.

We ordered two meals and three meat and two meat plates. The two meat plates appeared satisfactory, with the rib tips and links being particularly delectable. We also received greens and macaroni and cheese as sides. Regrettably, the sides were of poor quality. The macaroni and cheese lacked flavor, with the noodles being overcooked and the cheese being dry and resembling butter. The greens tasted stale. , and the three meat plate were worthless at $5 extra. The meat was cold and tasted like it had been cooked the day before

One of the best BBQs in LB. Pork ribs sre excellent. Brisket is good. Hot Links are bomb. Mac b Cheese out of this world. Baked beans are next level. Coming back in June to try the special Red Beanz and Rice for Juneteenth. Staff is friendly, b sure to say hi to Mama!

Food was okay. I ordered out. I’d order again if it wasn’t for the incredibly small portions. Corn bread muffin was dry and odd tasting, brisket was very fatty but overall okay and I really like the bbq sauce. Just wish I received more food

We were at The Wicked Wolf next door for cocktails. We were feeling hungry but The Wicked Wolf had a limited food menu (primarily appetizers). They allowed food to be ordered from next door at Mama Fran's! We ordered a platter for four people with chicken, hot links, ribs, brisket, pulled pork, Mac n cheese and bean's with all the sides. Mama Fran's brought the food over when it was ready. There was so much food everyone was able to have seconds! It was amazingly good! BBQ sauce was delicious too. Definitely will be going back to Mama Fran's!

Just good bbq and the sauce is great customer service and my friend came out and spoke to me personally and asked me. Was there any complaints? The only complaint I said is the people will not give you a chance who wants to do one stars they just seem to be some greedy people, greedy fat people, but this is a great place to be. Yes it doesn't have air, but it does have charisma. Have a great day.

I ordered 2 meat meal. They wouldn't let me order 2 servings of brisket so I ordered pulled pork. They gave 3 small slices of brisket and a small portion of very dry pulled pork It was $27 dollars. A real rip off

Not sure what happened to the quality of their food, but the portion size, especially spare ribs have gone down. I remember when it was called BBQ Chef and everything was top notch. I'm all about supporting black businesses but consistency is key.

Food is delicious, service is great. Everyone was very friendly and helpful! I would recommend trying them out. Definitely a new favorite spot! The brisket sandwich, greens, and yams were too good!

This place is just simply unorganized, hot etc etc slow. Attitudes and sweaty people galore lol. I actually liked the Mac and cheese but now they are trying to make me pay for a pulled pork meal and I ordered brisket!!! They called and said they couldn't cancel or take off the meat order and these fools still tried to charge the order to me! It's you guys fault you are always running out of items and don't know how to update your order systems!!! Get someone who knows how to organize your uber/Postmates system in a timely matter and you won't run into this problem!! Anyways I still got a full refund from uber because they came to the same conclusion. You guys were in the wrong and you lost a loyal customer by being unorganized and rude!!!!! And yall need some AC in that hot place !!! I saw the devil cooking in the back with a cigarette last time I came inside here!!!!! All the worker runnin around like chickens sweating and mad at each other lol And the barbecue sauce taste like ketchup smh lol tryna make money off loyal customers is wild ole rude people!!!!! step yall whole entire game up customer service is GARBAGE here and the food is mediocre . Mac and cheese low key good though no cap so ill give em that but everything else is a NO ..beware

We finally had a chance to try out Mama Fran's BBQ in the former Wrigley BBQ & Grill on Pacific Ave. right next to The Wicked Wolf. We will be back it was really delish! We each had a dinner plate with one meat and two side dishes, it was so much food! Our choices included the pork rib tips, beef brisket, mac & cheese, baked beans, and coleslaw. We also added a jalapeño corn muffin that was sensational and really packed some good heat! Their barbecue sauce and the saucey baked beans were so "extra"! Because it was our first time the very friendly gentleman added an extra corn muffin which really was appreciated. All of the portions were really huge and because the food was so good we couldn't stop ourselves and entered into a deep food coma for the rest of Sunday afternoon lol! I think next time we will try one dinner plate with two meats and get an extra side if we feeling really hungry. Please stop in soon and often, I want to keep this place going strong. It's such an asset to our neighborhood!
