It wasnt bad but also wasnt too memorable. The reason im being hard on this place is because I could see it being an incredible place with a few changes. If they had actual bookshelfs build into with the wall with books (ans no pictures), with the menu more seamlessly in the book and marked with a bookmark instead of a rubber band, and with good beer. All of these would make this a hidden gem but as it stands I would say its just okay

The place and the vibes are beautiful. However, the bartender was extremely rude. I was there with my friends trying to enjoy some drinks, the bartender ruined the mood since we walked because he was extremely disrespectful and passive aggressive. The bartender made us feel unwelcome and like we were bothering him with our presence. He had told us he was working by himself, which we understood but he kept being extremely unprofessional, and at some up discriminatory towards us. We wanted to stay and have more drinks but with this type of attitude from the staff, we felt as though we were not welcomed.

The space is simply gorgeous, so well done, and their menu was very fun. Drinks are really interesting but mine ultimately wasn't very delicious, just different. It was so loud and very cold inside which made it tough to relax and hang out.

The bartender was quite rude. We waited over 10 minutes at the “please wait to be seated” sign and, seeing no to the top of the stairs upstairs, asked if we could go up. He checked with Bobby (our server) about the delay, but his attitude was unnecessary. Thankfully, Bobby’s good service more than made up for the bartender’s rudeness.

I've passed by Writer's Block Rehab countless of times but never went in until recently. The decor is really fun, definitely a book lover's dream. I ordered an aperol spritz which was good. The upstairs is really cute too. A good thing to note is that gratuity was already added to the check.

I came here with some friends after dinner one night because we are total book nerds and thought this was a fun way to cap off an evening. We had a great time; I was disappointed the books are wallpaper and not real books but we still enjoyed the overall vibe. In our experience, we waited downstairs to be seated upstairs. We sat overlooking the man floor, the bar is up there so that made it easy. It's a cute spot; I'd visit again.

I was so happy to get to pop into Writers block. I've heard amazing things about this little find in the Gayborhood. Looking for Zero proof options, the bar didn't disappoint and adjusted an option without alcohol that included lavender syrup and earl grey tea - yum! The bartender was very accommodating and friendly. Upstairs was a magical place - a loft-like library of sorts with ample space to sit and enjoy the ambiance of authors on walls and friends about. I will be back for the fitness soon!

As a writer I was completely blown away with the concept and ambiance of Writer's Block! Such a cute gem with beautiful decor, as you can see a snippet. I went with some of my writing friends as this was a suggested spot to try. There were "small bites" but not an actual menu so my friends and I walked around the block for a meal. This wasn't a bad idea as the weather was nice and there were many options surrounding. I'd recommend eating before or immediately after. The space is cramped with many people waiting or standing around downstairs. The upstairs is cute but there is also a wait. The ambiance has dim lighting, music fits the vibe. It's a cute spot for a quick cocktail or two before heading out for the night. Expresso Martinis were tasty! The bartender was also very knowledgeable and kind! I allowed him to experiment and make me a surprise cocktail which you can see pictured, some kind of sushi martini with gin! Not bad.

I had a great time at Writer's Block Rehab. Granted I only can for a drink, the service was great and my server was very diligent. He filled up waters consistently. The ambiance was cute. Definitely a great setting for a writer's or book club. The music was a little loud at some points when talking, but our group was pretty big.

Can get overcrowded but that's just the space. Not anything to do with how much fun you can still have. Drinks were cute as well. I wouldn't come with more than 3 people. Cool bathroom walls

My girlfriend and I came here for drinks as we're both booklovers and figured it would be a vibe. Can you believe the books are fake?! It's literally just a wall sized poster of library books but not the actual books. I felt it was misleading. I don't know if "disappointed" is the right word to use, but I was extremely disappointed. The drinks also weren't great so I don't recommend those either. There's no food served here so can't comment on that. The staff was very lovely though and I do think that some people might like their cocktails, we just didn't. I definitely won't be back.

I was expecting this place to be really cool and it did fall a little short of my expectations! This is one of those places I always saw on TikTok and wanted to try. I ordered their espresso martini and then my friends and I shared a couple of the flatbreads (I believe one was a spicy arrabbiata kind and the other was a mushroom truffle one) and some hummus. Drinks were a little strong; The flatbreads were actually really tasty (the arrabbiata one IS actually a little spicy which I loved) and the hummus was nothing special. Where this place fell a little flat for me was the ambiance. The book style menus were actually really cute but the inside decor in my opinion is a little tacky. It's mostly just wallpaper, granted the space is so small they can't fit much else. The lighting was a little too bright for the theme. The globes hanging from the ceiling were probably the best part of the decor. Overall not a bad place but I definitely think it was overhyped on social media!

I thought this place would be nicer. We walked in soon after opening. There's two bars, one downstairs and one in the loft in the upstairs area. When we went, only the downstairs bar was available. The bartender was seemingly very knowledgeable with his drinks and alcohol, and there was only him serving everyone, so it might take a bit to get your drinks. Going upstairs to sit, I was disappointed that the 'library' was just wallpaper. It would be nice if there were more books. Everything was a bit run down, from the chairs to the tables. And a little lackluster with the drinks. I really didn't like that they already tack on a 20% tip, but then also offer tip suggestions on the bottom of the receipt.

Love this place. The bartender, Michael, is extremely knowledgeable and personable. Have never been disappointed in their cocktails and the ambiance is adorable. I usually stay at the bar on the first level to talk to Mike so I can't speak for the other two levels. Book, scrabble theme is cute and the price point is reasonable. They also have so food items to nosh on that shouldn't be overlooked.

I really enjoyed my visit to Writer's Block Rehab. It is tucked away on a quiet street and my friend and I grabbed a spot at the bar downstairs. I know upstairs is beautifully decorated but I did not get a chance to go up there because I was with my friend in a wheelchair. The first floor is wheel chair friendly! We sat at the bar, chatted with the bartender, and enjoyed our drinks. Drinks were excellent and really interesting. I can't wait to come back.

Based on the reviews and photos, I had this on my "Philly bucket list" and was excited to take my parents for a post-dinner cocktail here during their visit. The whole experience left me a little cold - atmosphere, cocktails, and service all squarely "just okay." Ambiance-wise, I found Writer's Block to be a little more gimmick than anything else. I LOVE the globe lighting fixture on the second floor but I was confused about how the wallpaper and book-themed menu played into the rest of the experience. I was hoping this might be a "creative's hub" of sorts where one could come and comfortably curl up with a book or journal, but that is not really the vibe at all. I solo travel and solo explore quite a bit and this would not be a place I'd return to, even to saddle up at the bar. Figuring out what to do upon walking in the door was also bizarre given how cramped the space is. Do I head upstairs? Over to the bar? Wait here? From there I found my aperol spritz to be good (hard to screw with a spritz tho, let's be real) and both of my parents cocktails to be okay, balance and creativity-wise. Serve staff did seem fairly miserable to be there across the board and I can't really blame them - lots of hauling up and down stairs and I am sure a wide range of folks coming through the (cramped) door. I guess I just wish there was a little more definition and thoughtfulness put into the "theme" - something I think one could almost get away with if the cocktail program had been phenomenal. Overall a fine experience if you're looking for a drink in a moody environment, but not a place I am apt to return to soon.

What a great find! This cocktail bar has some great creative cocktails in such a relaxing and beautiful place! The bar tender was very knowledgeable and even made us custom drinks based on what we described we liked in a cocktail!

Great atmosphere and chill spot for some unique cocktails. I brought my friends from out of town here and we loved it

Poor customer service. Felt hipstery, not in a good way. The building looks intriguing from the outside, as it looks like it's inside a parking lot (it's next to one), and it looks like a standalone house. But that's where the interesting parts end. Limited snacks/food. Chips are Cape Cod brand (you can watch the employee pour chips in the back behind the bar on the first floor). The glass used for one of our drinks was the inappropriate type for that drink. No napkins given with drinks or snacks. Poor distribution of labor. One person was doing all the service, including delivering drinks from floor 1 to floor 2, with two others behind the bar on floors 1 and 2. It took so long to get snacks that I just went down from the third floor to the first floor to ask for snacks. The employee said "sorry," quickly poured them into bowls, and I carried them back up two steep flights of stairs to the third floor. It seemed like the employee didn't know about the snack order, and we would never have gotten them if I hadn't gone downstairs to do their job. You could also probably just ask for and get snacks without ordering them, that's how disorganized this place felt. The atmosphere is missing something. There's definitely a writer theme, with the wallpaper and books, but it felt superficial, as if paying lip service to the theme, or it's a front for something else: a place that serves drinks, with no defining or memorable personality to it. We walked a few blocks and happened upon Monster Vegan, which is much much better in everything (drinks, food, atmosphere, personality, events), so go there instead.

This place is the definition of hipster nonsense. I just moved onto the block where this is located and thought maybe it would become my local drop-in, but I was there for 90 seconds today and it was 89 seconds too many. It feels like someone said "How can we take the worst parts of Williamsburg, Brooklyn circa 2008 and cram them into the tiniest space possible?" When I came in the downstairs was already basically full of people who seemed like they'd be great background actors for an OKGO music video, and with just those like ten people it was SO LOUD. I asked the bartender if upstairs was open and he said I could order a drink and go upstairs but that they were closing in half an hour, which would have made it 8PM on a Sunday. First, it says they're open til 9, but also, what bar closes at 8PM on a Sunday??!! I NOPE'd the hell out of there like lightning. HARD pass.

Would've loved to have reviewed their actual product lol. Showed up Friday at 6 o'clock and the police was dark. No sign no indication on the website or anywhere else that it was closed. Tried to call the number - disconnected. Have we lost another craft cocktail establishment? If not, then shame on them for not posting a temp closure.

LOVED my drink (the Rasputin) at writers block! Order your drink downstairs and then head up with it to a cool library-feeling lounge. It definitely has a cozy feel and there are plenty of books you can grab to read. There are so many cocktails to choose from, so there is definitely something for everyone. Prices average around $15 and are very well-crafted. A great spot for a low key evening or to grab a drink and catch up with a friend!

I spied with my little eyes Writer's Block Rehab on my way to see a show at the Proscenium Theater at the Drake. Odd place to put a put bar next to a seemingly vacant lot. Of course I had to check it out! I discovered a cozy, book themed cocktail lounge with a great vibe. We were immediately greeted by the bartender who handed us a cleaver menu with cocktails related to books. I totally dug the atmosphere and was hooked! I highly recommend.

Cute cocktail bar tucked away in an alley-- perfect for a date night, small happy hour, a casual hang with a friend. The aesthetic is fantastic, with menus in various books, and incredible decor all around. Most of the seating is upstairs, so note that you get your drinks downstairs and then do have to climb up a flight. We got a variety of cocktails and mocktails. My personal favorite was the bright pink "Come on Barbie" drink with dragon fruit and coconut water (super tropical). Really enjoyed this spot!

I'M OBSESSED!! The cocktails are delicious, you can't go wrong with whatever you order - and there is quite the selection. The mixologists are patient though, so take your time asking for a recommendation that aligns with your preferences. The ambiance is very cocktail bar-esq, but positively different from your traditional spot because the chairs and couches are spaced out so that you can have a little privacy or a bit of interaction. I highly recommend this spot!

Incredible vibe, TRULY amazing cocktails, and a one of a kind guide to the experience in Mike, who was the best Bartender I have frankly ever had serve me. Despite living on the other side of the city, me and my partner are planning on making this a regular haunt because of his incredible knowledge of spirits, and incredibly welcoming attitude. Couldn't recommend this bar, and Mike, more highly.

There really aren't a whole bunch of cocktail bars in Philly - but I'm happy I decided to come here this weekend! It's a very chill atmosphere to be at. You order your drinks downstairs at the bar and you can bring it upstairs to sit down and sip on. I'd say the pricing is pretty average and the drinks are good! I believe they change up some of their drinks, but I got the Rum Job and really liked it - it wasn't too strong! I think this will be a place I bring my friends/family visiting to town for sure!

Don,t bother. Just don't. 5 years ago and beyond this was my go to bar. Loved it and was always welcome. Twice this past weekend we were extremely rudely turned away despite there being several empty seats available. More empty seats - together - than we had in our party. It felt like a targeted refusal of entry and service. All we wanted was an adult beverage and what used to be a fun experience. To the owner(s) you have an immense problem with the individual you have put in charge of "host" duties. I won't return nor will the dozens of people I have shared this experience with.

The library-inspired decor: charming. The menus: delightful (real books)! The service: friendly & pleasant. The cocktails: ... Unfortunately, not great. I really wanted to like this place, but the cocktails I had there ranged from so-so to undrinkable. Several were too cloyingly sweet. Others, well, reading the description, I thought "oh, interesting combination, I wonder how those flavors will work together?" Answer: not at all well. I went with friends and they also didn't seem thrilled with their drinks, although several were enjoyable. I'm not sure how to really rate the place: 2 stars seems too low (and would usually be something I'd associate with bad service--the service was good). But 3 stars feels too high given how much I disliked some of the drinks, and that based on my experience I do not expect to visit this establishment again.

I've had Writer's Block Rehab on my list to visit since they opened. Having the chance to finally go, I mapped out my route to get here and thankfully it's pretty close to a Patco station. The way I came was down an alley but it's located at the corner in it's own stand alone building. The big windows on the front give a fun view inside. I had come here on a Wednesday and the upstairs was closed off. I asked the bartender and he said usually Thursday thru Saturday they have it open. When I arrived, there was about 4 other people in the bar, slightly quiet, and I would say tops, the first floor fits like 15 people. I think I picked the best spot to sit, at the head of the bar. By 8pm, this place filled up quick! Bartender was amazing. He was calm, cool, collected and friendly. The cocktails choices are absolutely fun and no matter your preference, there's most likely going to be something calling your name out. Each of the menus are in different variety of books, there's the scrabble blocks on the wall. This place just has a bunch of character to it. Pear me Up! was strong and definitely a sipping cocktail. The Persian was lovely with the rose in it. My date and I shared a cheese plate that was fine but not as full as I would have liked it it be. I will be back to try everything else out.

If you're a literature lover like me, then you'll certainly love this establishment. The vibes ooze of old school library to the point where you feel transformed back into elementary school when you had to grab a book on a Friday to do a report to present on Monday. Love the ambiance, the service is warm, friendly and fast and last but not least the drinks are solid and creatively named and crafted.

So this is strictly for the look, atmosphere, and friendliness of the employees. I didn't have anything to drink or eat, but my boyfriend did. So this bar is located in somewhat of an alley and it's kinda hidden. The first floor bar area is small and narrow. We were greeted immediately after walking in. My boyfriend order a drink and chicken tacos. This bar is super cute and I LOVED the look of the menus!! My boyfriend like his whiskey egg white amaretto IPA and the chicken tacos. Just based on the atmosphere I would love to come back and actually try something for myself.

I've been to a lot of bars and a lot of restaurants but I've never been personally offended by a host staff like at Writer's Block tonight. We showed up and were told we'd need to wait 10 minutes, perfectly fine. As more groups showed up we figured we'd be first in the queue. A group of two leaves and the host returns to - what we expect having been there first - take us to a table. Instead he will only take a table of three and when we spoke up about being first, the host scoffed in my face and said, "I'd prefer three." I will wait 30 minutes for my drink to be wrong and laugh about it but this felt personally disrespectful and I'm ashamed to have ever recommended this place to our out of town friends. I'd be humiliated if this happened to them upon my recommendation. I never show up on this app unless an establishment earns my review, and Writer's Block went out of their way to earn this one.

The drinks are quite pricey for the below average ambience, service, and quality. Went for a birthday date in February after having a very nice experience pre-covid. A few odd substitutions were made to the cocktails without explanation including black pepper for cardamom. We waited 30 minutes after ordering our second round with only 4 other customers in the building and no apology or explanation was given when they did arrive. The library-like ambience has potential for being a go-to spot, but the rest of the experience does not live up to this unfortunately. Maybe more appealing to a tourist looking for a fun instagram pic. I don't think I will be going back.

It's amazing to see that the owners of Writer's Block Rehab turned an unassuming building on a random little street into a gorgeous little get away perfect for drinks or getting away to write and rehab that writers block. The building itself is really narrow and so is the inside, but that just increases the cozy-ness of the atmosphere. Inside is decorated to give off "old library in a forgotten mansion" vibes. Coming here during the day, you'll find that the place is pretty and very quiet. There's a total of three floors and various seating arrangements (bar, comfy chairs, tables to eat at) so you can come here for whatever the mood. And you're almost guaranteed a quiet place to talk or work. The menus here is simple but filled with good options for a light bite to eat.

This bar might be hard to find as it is behind a parking lot and in front of apartments but this is a great gem for drinks. Also you will want to dine inside instead of outside to get to see the full experience of the name of the place. I got this sapphire siren tequila drink that was one of the best drinks that I have had in awhile and a bombshell drink that was pretty quality as well I believe it had whiskey or maybe a bourbon I forget. They only slight downfall is don't go here if you haven't ate yet due to only a few light select food picks like hummus, chips or almonds but still a great place.

A fantastic masterpiece of cocktails, comics and decor! Stopped by here with some friends about a month ago and had a grand time! Take your time to enjoy the space and kudos on how the menu is presented! Did about 3 rounds here and definitely enjoyed it all! I definitely recommend this place for all to try!

A library themed bar? Sure this isn't anything new but Writer's Block Rehab has a uniquness about it that you'll just love. It's tucked away towards the end of a very narrow, alley-like street and like the street, the building itself is very narrow. To make up for its lack of width the venue sits 3 stories high. The first and third floors has a bar and the second floor is a lounge area. All of which are ideal spots to get cozy and enjoy some fantastic cocktails. I headed straight to the second floor and was scanning for an empty seat when the super friendly hostess mentioned available seating at the third floor. I looked up and noticed it was a loft so I was all about that. I made my way up there, sat at the small bar and was happily greeted by the bartendar. I tried two of their whiskey-based cocktails and both were very refreshing with a subtle sweetness. Those were the Lady Boss (whiskey, grapefruit shrub and bitters) and the When In Drag (bourbon, blackberries and mint). Soon after I opted for various straight whiskeys that they carried. This place exudes that relaxing atomosphere and is relatively quiet. The muffled chatter from the floor below along with the great conversations with the awesome staff set the perfect stage for an enjoyable, cocktail-filled evening. Will definitely visit again the next time I'm in town :)

Came here with a group of four and it was just ADORABLE. The menu is literally in a hard covered book (such a cute idea), the decor is right on theme and the drinks were tasty. This is a really good place for an intimate catch up sesh with family or friends or even a romantic date night out. I probably wouldn't suggest it for large groups because space is limited though! What I drank: Mymosa, pink sparkling sangria

Writers block is a bit off the beaten path. It's super cute inside with tile letters on the walls, somewhat resembling a scrabble board. It's a tiny place, about 6 seats at the bar and 4 seats along the front wall. There's also an upstairs with extra seating. The menu changes seasonally. I didn't see the drink that I wanted, but the bar tender crafted me something similar. It was delicious! I wanted a spicy, fruity, tequila drink and he delivered. If I was in the area I would come back here again for a drink.

Not impressed in the slightest. Empty bar upon arriving followed by 4 couples coming in right after us. Not enough bar seats and unfortunately the upstairs wasn't opening for another hour they informed us. Bummer. Boss lady drink was about 80% full as I watched the bartender add more ice to make it look like a full cocktail. Very strong and sweet but not very good. The sangria was not that great. We planned on at least two beverages before leaving but left within 30 minutes of arriving. We won't be returning.

I had been wanting to stop by this place for a while and finally made it out on a Saturday night. We came at around 9pm and they still had tables for two in The Library area on the second floor. First, you have to walk down a slightly shady and dark looking alley if you come from the east side of Cypress, but it's really completely fine. The bar is just very hidden on an alley street. Second, the entire bar/lounge was much, much smaller than I was expecting. It's a great place for smaller parties of two/three and maybe four if you get lucky and one of the larger tables is available. Overall, it has a much more intimate feel than what I originally imagined. It kinda has speakeasy feels. I was very excited for the cocktail list and my friend and I ended up trying four different cocktails that night. They definitely change the menu regularly though. My drinks were good and were also very different. They use a few ingredients you don't usually find in cocktails like beets! (Which were in my We Three Queens Drink) my favorite drink of the night was definitely the We the Drag, which had blackberries, mint and bourbon. I'd order that one again.

honestly how can you NOT love this place?? awesomely handcrafted drinks with books everywhere, and thoughtful, cool decor all around. even the menu is placed within the first few pages of books! precovid, i recommend going upstairs to check out the interior, but they close that down at a certain hour so go early!

Writer's Block is a great place to get a drink with a few friends. I LOVE the literary aesthetic. Coming into a bar and seeing books elegantly arranged along the counter like a mini library was so cool! The ambience is a nice mix of dark enough to feel cozy but bright enough that you can see what's going on. I don't like most bars cuz they often get really really noisy, but WBR was never so loud that I had trouble talking to my friends. Now, the real gem of the evening: the bartender. Mike, you are awesome, and this city needs more bartenders like you. Mike is so friendly, easy to talk to, and hilarious. In addition to that, he mixes a *mean* drink. I got the Latin Lover and it was so smooth, milky, and flavorful. All of the other staff I interacted with were friendly, professional, and courteous. In short, my experience at WBR was phenomenal, and you should check it out too!

The first time I attempted to patronize this place, it was actually closed on a Sunday afternoon when yelp (aka God) had it listed as being opened until 11pm. NOT pleased about the mis-information. (FAKE NEWS) I'd sure like to just decide not to show up for work also but unfortunately in my case, people might die. Second time I was invited to meet Tinasaurus in order to be introduced to her posse (aunt and uncle). Sure, I'll take an opportunity to get some attention. The walk to this place actually wasn't as bad as I was expecting, location is pretty central. I was juggling question answering and menu perusing simultaneously and struggling. I felt anxious to meet my companions at their intoxication level. My first beverage choice that looked delicious contained an ingredient that wasn't available. I feel like this has been a common occurrence recently in philadelphia. Such a let down. I had to settle for the next best thing: anything with tequila. I ordered something that was supposed to resemble a margarita. The drink itself was actually not to my liking whatsoever. My drinking partners however thoroughly enjoyed their beverages. The menu is actually a fucking book. Bonus points for the cleverness. There are also little bowls of food. Who doesn't love a little bowl of food?!?!? (Although a LARGE bowl of food is preferred). This was a mix of some sort. I DESTROYED it. I literally ate so much it was shameful. I was embarrassed. The bartender was great. Really friendly and engaging. He gave me a sample of what he made, basically an extra drink, for free. I love the personability (chrome is telling me that is not a word but you know what I mean). Hospitality is a better and real word. I'd come back for the bartender, the little bowl of food, and to sample some other beverages. PS- apparently they have a tap of vodka. Dope.

Writer's Block Rehab effectively executes the trifecta to successfully reach my soul: 1. Words. 2. Books! 3. Fancy bar space. This little bar is a true gem. Little being the key word. I'm glad we visited on a Monday night. I assume it probably could be a bit claustrophobic during peak times. The downstairs bar area is tiny, the second floor isn't much bigger, and I can't comment on the third floor, as it was blocked off as "VIP." If you want to drink in a library setting (book wallpaper and globe lights that I would like to "borrow" forever), find seats upstairs. If you want to spend your time searching for 150 authors names on the walls and yelling them out in pure glee, sit downstairs at the bar. Hint: Some of the authors hidden in front of you are mirrored behind you. I don't want to spill any names. [The Sun Also Rises, right Hamlet? Yes, and let's go eat some Green Eggs and Ham.] *cough* As a literary nerd, I was in my element. As a liquor imbiber, I was also impressed with their cocktail list. Most were herb-infused. I chose the "Gin-Gin," which came with gin ~gasp~, ginger, and berry kombucha. It was nice but fairly strong so I nursed it for the duration of our visit (which perplexed the bartender). I also appreciated the use of paperbacks as check holders. Good job sticking with the theme throughout! The crowd -- and by crowd, I mean the other three patrons -- was chill and the atmosphere was comfortable. In addition to herby, funky cocktails, they also have wine and beer available. Their beer list is okay but could be curated to offer a couple more rare choices, in my opinion. Overall though, they're off to a great start just a few months after opening. I look forward to trying more of their creative concoctions in the future!
