"Xaman Hidden Xaman is a trip to the post-technology future, a mysterious, underground garden in the center of the urban jungle. Once you’re in—finding it takes some poking around—craft mixologists take the Mexican liquors you know and push them to the edge. The bartenders showcase rare ingredients like cempasúchil marigold, xoconostle prickly pear, and cacao, not to mention artisanal vinegars, spooky tinctures, and kombucha teas, presented in line with all-but-inscrutable pre-Hispanic names. Electro-shamanic beats from resident and guest DJs take you back to that lost weekend in Tulum. So hip it hurts but all are welcome."

Xaman Bar - Review - Juárez - Mexico City - The Infatuation

"Located in the heart of Zona Rosa, this tiki bar isn’t visible from the street, but head down a flight of stairs and through a large door and suddenly you’ll pop out in a dimly-lit room that feels like a Jungle Cruise with sex appeal. There are bonsai trees scattered around on shelves, a DJ playing music you don’t hate, and groups of well-dressed friends lounging around on furniture that looks like it came from a mid-century design exhibit. Xaman is a great spot to hit right after dinner before things get too sloppy." - Brant Cox

"A definite cocktail scene, Xaman sets out to have one of the best cocktail menus in the city. Try out drinks made with tea, wild herbs, and fresh fruit juices, like the pale pink Piedra del Mar shaken hard with egg whites and the pulp of tuna fruit. The classics are a wise choice too, like the thyme-infused Moscow Mule. Come here for a nice cocktail at the end of the day, to start a night out, or to simply see what's going on at the forefront of Mexico City's cocktail scene." - Scarlett Lindeman

The entrance to this place is very unique and exciting, the host was very kind, the space is dark like a cave with loud music feels like a club but makes you scream to talk, low sittings area and another room much more quiet. With great expectations they vanished fast as they come, the server forgot we were there multiple time (poor guy, they need more staff), we were sitting next to the DJ table, we thought was cool until he took out a cigarette and smoke was all over, as well they spread some strong scents that makes the whole place smoky. The cocktails have a nice show but the flavors are not that good, we took 4 had the chug them all, and to get the bill took 15 minutes so at the end we went to the cashier and even then they gave us the wrong bill. I would say, great potential, with more effort this place could be the best bar in town.

My gf and I came here on a Wednesday night, let me preface with we didn’t plan on coming here- we initially had a reservation at Licoreria Limantour (their sister bar) but it was temporarily closed for some reason so they offered us a reservation here instead. It’s not easy to find from the outside, we kind of looked lost and the door guys asked us if we were looking for Xaman bar. The atmosphere is very dark and very loud with music, they do have a DJ. This service was kind of hit or miss, sometimes it felt great, other times we sat with empty drinks looking for servers. The presentation of all the cocktails are all visually nice. I first ordered a margarita because I couldn’t figure out what to get, wasn’t a big fan. My second drink was the Amanza Guapos, which I did like, it was an orange flavored drink. I do feel like this is a bar very targeted towards Americans, like this is something I’d expect in LA or New York, which makes sense on the location because it’s right next to a very tourist Marriott.

Came here on a Friday night and honestly was one of our favorite spots of the trip. The music was on point I wanted to Shazam every single track. They have cool drinks which made the place even more fun. Angel our server was great!

Google
An amazing speakeasy with great drinks and music! I did get a bit lost trying to find this bar, but after walking up to an entrance that looks like an apartment building, there were two staff members who called a waiter to take us to our seats downstairs. Since we were a larger group, we were seated in a secluded area of the bar, which was still lovely. The music was a tad loud for me and my guests, but we still enjoyed the atmosphere of the bar. My drink was especially refreshing and delicious. A friend got a drink that came in a vase with flowers, which I had never seen before—very unusual but lovely! Service was great for the most part, though a tad slow, but the servers were very nice. They also add smoke to the bar, which gives it an extra vibe. Overall, it was a great experience with fantastic drinks at Xaman.

Google
This was an interesting visit. It is very loud, and very dark. The drinks are quite expensive, but it’s definitely an American concept bar, to draw in visitors from the Marriott and many other American hotels close by. The service was good, and my friend enjoyed her Jegar based drink. My Margarita was nice, but the single ice cube filled about 90% of the glass. Not sure I’d return , but an interesting concept.

Google
I am sad to write a negative review but feel compelled to. My wife and I decided to have a couple of drinks after dinner at the the Xaman bar. After asking the bill and paying by card the waiter didn't give me a reciept. This was unusual so I decided to check my bank account on the way home. Instead of listening to me hed decided to give him self a different amount. You will understand this was more then I said. I would expect more from a bar selling drinks at your prices. This is theft, and I don't appreciate it. Now I know you will reply that you will talk to the person so it doesn't happen again. So I will add a picture of the guy you should reprimand. Mexico is truly lovely, but your "mandatory" tipping is shameless I see that you have responded but can't find any contact details. I you leave me your email address I will contact you.

I can’t wait to go back! A wonderful experience, a great surprise on my birthday celebration! Was perfect! Love the cocktails! The most creative and sexy cocktails in all Mexico City! The best on Mexico City/Zona Rosa We have to go back!! I’m fascinated with this place! *requires reservations

Google
This concept bar was just what we were looking for. They have a tone of out there drinks like ones that hang from the ceiling and odd dishes to drink from. The drinks themselves are not just fun to look at but are well made and worth the price. The smoky dark atmosphere is cool but can be a bit much when they first pull out the smoker. The staff was all friendly and the drinks came out relatively quickly for how packed it was. Overall a great place for a date or hang out.

Yelp
The first time I came here was during Covid, and it was nearly empty. Now coming back post Covid, and it is packed from the rooter to the tooter and NOT in a good way as going in on a Saturday evening, it was chaotic. Knowing that only about maybe three or four workers were serving guest, you definitely got overlooked a lot when trying to order unless you really tried to flag down workers. It was as if they had tunnel vision sadly like my goodness I highly recommend trying to get a reservation that is far away from the DJ booth, because I swore they were trying to blow my eardrums off. Nonetheless I had a really great time hanging out with friends and the vibe was perfect minus, loud music. I would try to go back, but next time I would suggest definitely suggest for someone to make a reservation for us not as close as we were to the DJ booth, but still in the same vicinity if you know what I mean.

Yelp
Legendary! Viaje Astral is my fav! Going back for thanks giving. You can sit at the bar or get a table and order a group drink which hangs from ceiling and people get their own tubes. It's cool.

Yelp
Cool basement craft Cocktail Bar acacross from the Marriott. The staff was a lot of fun. We went on a weekday so it wasn't really busy, which I prefer. Odd bar with no overhang to put you knees under.....but a cool spot anyway.

Yelp
This place is amazing and we were lucky to get in with no reservation. We love great cocktails and they definitely didn't disappoint. This place is a bit hidden and eventually you will see the host. The inside has a DJ playing things such as Rampue that provided an amazing scene. It is dark fun lounge vibe and mostly only seated areas, so it is nice that it isn't fully crammed pack. We sat at the bar and were able to witness the bartender making all the intricate drinks. Definitely recommend to make a reservation since it is very busy and the cocktails are amazing.

Yelp
This place was cute. I appreciated the cocktail and beer offerings. However, no wine! What a disappointment from such a cozy little place. With that said, I would definitely still go back though.

Yelp
Loved checking out this bar! It's a hidden gem in a basement. You'll wait a few minutes before being allowed in, but I promise it's worth it! They have drinks that hang from the ceiling, and if you're already at Xaman, you gotta order it! It's a drink that's good enough for four people. They have a DJ and even someone walking around with some type of incense (can't think of the exact name for it). This place is a bar that you have to check out if you're in CDMX!
google avatar

Kemi A.

Yelp
This is located across the street from the Marriott, you'll probably pass by it multiple times and not see it since there's no sign indicating that there's a bar downstairs (speakeasy vibes). I along with my friend stopped by here on a recommendation from a bartender on a Saturday night. The vibe is very dark and mysterious but not creepy, it gives a romantic vibe or hanging out with friends. They have a live DJ who played a house mix, and there's space to dance if you want (I did not partake in that). You'll need to speak loudly/yell if you're with someone, so keep that in mind. I got the MOCHUELO which was by far my favorite drink of then night, it is Campari, Havana 7 Rum, pineapple juice with mint and natural syrup. It had just enough tartness to make me feel like it was grapefruit juice, which I love. My friend enjoyed their drink as well. I would've ordered more but it was the end of the night, but I'll be sure to go back there soon!

Yelp
This was definitely the coolest bar we visited in Mexico City. The greeter, bartenders, and servers were incredibly friendly and down to Earth. The atmosphere in the bar is a whole vibe. Our group tried several drinks, and all were well balanced and tasted great. Make a reservation far in advance of when you plan to visit because this spot fills up quick.
google avatar

Yelp
Was right across the street from the Marriott !! It's definitely a hidden gem . If you can find it you will love it
google avatar

Katie G.

Yelp
Very cool bar and reminds me of an NYC speakeasy. We didn't make reservations and showed up right at 7:00 pm on a Saturday night and were able to be seated at the bar. Note-they opened the gate for us around 7:10, just be patient and they will come! All the drinks are great and served in fun glasses and unique presentations. Prices are still cheap as an American but more than local spots in Mexico City. I will make a reservation for a table next time!
google avatar

Maria M.

Yelp
Been there on the weekend and weekday. The weekend it's popping due to the live DJ. The weekend you see alot of tourist but the vibe is chill and nice. Waiters are very nice and friendly and give good drink recommendations
google avatar

Talitha C.

Yelp
Xaman is such a vibe. It's a true speakeasy so it can be tricky to find. It's right across from the Marriott on the side street. Once in it is one sexy place. The drinks are great, the lights are dim , the decor edgy and sexy. If you want a great cocktail that is balanced right this is your place. We went two times while in CDMX, both times with no reservation but I wouldn't take the chance and definitely would get one if you plan on going. The second night we went, it was a Friday and it was super crowded, loud and a lot of dancing. The first night was during a weekday and it was a little more laid back. We loved our experience.

Yelp
Xaman was high on our list of unique places to bar hop. We were told that it can be quite a busy joint but we're glad we were able to get in the door. I ordered the What Else, a Beefeater gin-based drink with edible flower. I don't remember what my friends ordered but it was a large behemoth of a drink. I took a sip of it and confidently felt that what I ordered was better. Sometimes, it just *be* like that. It's a pretty cool place, and the bathrooms are unisex in one large area. I was wearing a romper and my zipper broke and I couldn't zip the damn thing up or down and fortunately, I was able to corral some ladies there to help with the issue. I was so pissed at the zipper that I ended up tossing that romper in the trash when we got back to our AirBnB that night. Service was great, we were sat at a table and despite the place being busy, the server checked on us every so often but not in a way that was bearing down on us.

Olivia L.

Yelp
Made a reservation here for my fiance and I about a week in advance. We're only in Mexico City for four nights and I read the reviews which seemed promising. Upon arriving they sat us at a small piece of wood surrounding the dj booth, honestly I wouldn't stand here had there been a dj let alone not. When asked if we could move to one of the 4 empty tables they declined due to other resos. Fine, we moved to the bar upon spots becoming empty and the server grabbed the back of my pants and pulled me back to another stool to ensure there was adequate room. At this point I had enough and paid the bill. Nice enough atmosphere but there are so, so many nice places you can go to in Mexico City before this. I encourage you to chose somewhere else, with civilized servers and actual tables to spend your well earned money at.

Joelle G.

Yelp
I love this spot. I went here a few times while in Mexico City. The presentation of the cocktails are gorgeous and amazing, but the cocktails are on the sweet and weak side, imho. I had a bourbon-based concoction, then a tequila-based one. Even though the drinks were not by my usual standards, I still enjoyed them. Despite that, the environment and the service are cute & worth the visit.

Yelp
Very hip, too-cool-for-school, trendy bar with the most creative presentation of drinks that I've ever seen! Our drink was legit served to us in a large terrarium that was hanging from a rope that was attached to the ceiling! I don't remember the name of the drink but definitely keep an eye out for that one! I usually value the taste of the drink over the presentation, but this one was just so uniquely done, plus it tasted pretty good. There was a DJ spinning the night we went so it was quite lively in there! We were there on a Wednesday night, with a reservation so we got seated right away. It was busy but not packed that night The entrance was a little tricky, but it's across a little side street from a Marriott hotel, and then look at the picture I took to find the entrance!

Shirley L.

Yelp
tldr seems like we were socially profiled Our reservation was for 9:30 on a Saturday night, we arrived on time and there were 2 empty tables. The waiter greeted us and was gesturing towards the seating beside the DJ booth. We didn't want to sit near the DJ booth as it was too loud, so we asked to sit at one of the empty tables. He said no because those tables were for parties of 3. We understood and proceeded to sit at the bar. 5-10 minutes later, we look back and see both tables occupied by parties of 2. We were obviously not happy about this but still proceeded to order our drinks (cocktail + beer) By 10:15, our drinks still had not arrived. We thought it was maybe because they were understaffed but we counted three waiters. We therefore look at the two tables of parties of 2 (who for sure arrived after us), and they both had received their drinks. When we left there were two other "3 person tables" that had been seated with two people. We walked out after not receiving our drinks as the wait had been so long by then Maybe I'm just salty from my experience but the bar also looked like a regular speakeasy.
google avatar

Natalia G.

Yelp
Trendy speakeasy in Mexico City. If you're going on a weekend, try to make a reservation. The waiter suggested via whatsapp texting. It was pretty packed when we arrived and as a party of 6, almost impossible to find a seat in a busy bar. The waiter was nice enough to let us sit at a reserved table until the party arrived. The prices were around $160 -$250 (MXN) per drink but worth it for the abundance of unique cocktails. I had something with anise and gin that the waiter recommended (unfortunately the name escapes me) and it was delicious. A mix of unexpected flavors but not too overwhelming in any which way. I would say the vibe as Xaman is trendy casual drinks while you chill. There is some music but not something you'd want to dance to. Xaman is more the place to drink a unique cocktail nestled underground on a leather couch.

Yelp
Coolest bar I've been to ~ from the moment you walk into the bar to its transition to a light club scene as the night progresses. The place is relatively small, but you can always grab a few tables and push them together for a larger group. Although some of the drinks are relatively high priced, once you try they you'll be blown away. We were with a group of 8 people and we ordered the Calebasse and Pie Negro. What makes this bar particularly unique is that they use various herbs in the drinks and right when they serve them to you, they burn the herbs. This adds a lot to the bar's environment and makes the drinks a lot more fun and exotic. In general, the larger drinks are pretty generous in volume, so they are perfect for sharing! We got there around 10 at night and we were there for an hour or so. While enjoying the atmosphere, the bar scene transitioned from a casual trendy upbeat vibe to more of a club vibe. They had a DJ in the back in front of a small open area where people began dancing. I highly recommend this place to anyone looking for a fun new bar. Just a heads up, this place can be hard to find since you go down some steps and there is no obvious signage. Also, when we went, the girls got in for free, but the guys had to pay cover.
google avatar

Amanda C.

Yelp
What a strange, strange place! The concept is great: drinks and vessels designed to represent a Shamanistic experience. They even walk through the bar with burning incense (isn't México smoky enough?). We ordered a few drinks between our group including an old-fashioned type drink which they infused cinnamon smoke into, the giant rum punch glass bowl that hangs from the ceiling, and a whiskey and absinthe drink. The favorite drink by far was the absinthe and whiskey, neither of which taste was discernable in the drink (in a great way). The rum drink was more gimmicky and didn't really taste good at all, sorta like a flat pimm's cup. The reason why I knocked off stars were because I thought the drinks were slightly pricey, only some of them were good, but mostly the vibe was not my style. I felt out of place amongst the Insta-glams and was constantly distracted by the flashes going off from phones as I tried to talk to my friends (which was even brighter due to the smoke distributed by the servers). Interesting place to try and maybe bring friends, probably wouldn't go back if I could help it.

Yelp
Greeeaaaaat bar. They had live music playing the night we went which was awesome, then it transitioned to low-Fi music once the band finished. Great vibe and aesthetic - even the bathrooms were beautiful. Recommended drink: Snowden
google avatar

Eydie V.

Yelp
Favorite cocktails in CDMX. So creatively perfected and Aztec inspired- mine came in a bowl and my friends came in a vase with straws. I loved this speakeasy! The music & ambiance was great too- a dj playing deep house electronic and it really set the tone for a underground vibe/feel. Definitely one of my highlights.
google avatar

Stacey C.

Yelp
This place definitely lives up to the speakeasy theme as we found it very difficult to find but so glad we finally did! Tip: it's in a basement so look for the building that has stairs leading down. It is dark and moody and very cool inside. We sat at the bar where the awesome bartenders gave us some great advice for our Mexico City trip. I don't remember the name of the drink we ordered but it was one of the large shareable ones that came in a beautiful ceramic jug and an herb that our mixologist lit on fire. Talk about a show!
google avatar

Stacy S.

Yelp
Awesome speakeasy bar! Didn't eat here, but had two specialty cocktails, and they were amazing! Highly recommend. The place is a little difficult to find, the entrance is down some stairs and doesn't look like a bar.
google avatar

Taylor H.

Yelp
Skip this place if you're visiting CDMX. The interior is great but the service is truly terrible. When I was here, there were only 2 other people in the bar and it took over 30 minutes for us to get drinks. Bartender was incredibly slow. When I did get my drink, it didn't taste like the description on the menu and was honestly gross. Confusing because there are so many good reviews and it seemed like a really cool place, but was a total waste.
google avatar

Clau D.

Yelp
Great for a night out. Love the drinks!!! The music is cool but not for dancing. Staff are friendly. And have good recommendations. I did not eat anything, but I could see in other tables they have some food. Over all the place is really fun. The drinks are a little pricey, but many are big enough to share.
google avatar

Andrew D.

Yelp
I think the idea of this place is great. A wall of what look like artifacts from a different time, and drinks featuring locally available flora/ingredients that would have presumably been available to the ancient tribes puts you in a unique state of mind as you sip a cocktail that you could imagine was a potion from a medicine man. That said, the 'cleansing' ritualistic smoke was a little much at times, it was a little hot, and the drink that swung from the ceiling, though cleverly presented, did not measure up to the other drinks we ordered. So: am I glad we went? YES!! Would I bring friends to experience it? YES!! Great date night spot? YES!! Would I go solo for a cocktail? Nah.. 4 out of 5?
google avatar

Tiffany N.

Yelp
This place has a lot of potential but the service is very slow. Ordered a drink, waited 40 minutes, never got it, left. Really sad I didn't get to try it but I didn't want to spend my whole night waiting on 1 cocktail.

Christine N.

Yelp
Hidden trendy speakeasy bar! Highly recommend for anyone visiting. It was a bit confusing at first to find it because there was no signs. When we arrived, there was a couple of guys hanging out front. We went down the stairs from where they were and arrived upon a random door with no sign. Eventually, someone opened up the door. When entering, you see a shelf with plants on it and into the bar area. We arrived at a good time because the staff lit up sage to walk around to cleanse the air, that was a great touch to rid any negative energy. Drinks are delicious and fun. We ordered the sharing pot drink, tons of ice! Along with cocktails, highly recommend the cocktails versus the shared drinks. There's also other sharing drinks that hangs from the ceiling, super cool and fun!
google avatar

Matthew R.

Yelp
Super cool basement cocktail bar. It's a little hard to find and the entrance is down some steps and looks like an emergency exit. I can't remember the name of the drink we had, but it was a large one for 2 people. It was massive, probably the equivalent of 4 drinks, and not terribly priced. The whole process of making the drinks is fun to watch and they use some really interesting ingredients. I would recommend making reservations as they seem to fill up. I'll definitely be back on my next trip.
google avatar

Katie Y.

Yelp
A friend and I came in on a Tuesday night, we were greeted at the entrance and shown the way down. To preface the review, we both work in the service industry and are more critical of cocktail bars than we would like to admit - we are almost always disappointed by at least one thing. But not here! The menu itself, the drinks, the atmosphere, the staff, the bathrooms, all impressive! We really enjoyed the prehispanic inspiration. It wasn't too crowded or loud either. We look forward to visiting the next time we're in town.
google avatar

Beth D.

Yelp
Amazing bar and amazing drinks. The bar is difficult to find but that's half the fun. We sat at the bar and the bartender was extremely attentive and walked us through what to order. The bar was closing early so we were only able to have two rounds of drinks. I highly recommend this bar to anyone into the craft cocktail scene. This was one of the coolest bars we went to in Mexico City.
google avatar

Oscar A.

Yelp
Awesome Bar!! Drinks are amazing, vibe is chill, super trendy. Definitely coming back.
google avatar

Roy A.

Yelp
Trendy underground bar that is across from the Marriott. They have some over priced drinks and subpar service. Great ambiance, white lighting makes it weirdly bright for a bar.

Divya B.

Yelp
This place is the definition of stupid trends. This place had a lot of hype, an unreasonable wait, but no substance. The drinks were unimpressive (great for show, but taste terrible) , and the music did not match the environment. I think if you are going to try different cocktails in CDMX, visit bars like Hanky Panky or La Poxeria for a unique cocktail (and cheaper cocktail).
google avatar

Ian M.

Yelp
Honestly some of the worst, most overpriced cocktails I had in Mexico City. It only gets a 2 stars because I liked the interior & concept. Other than that, all of the drinks I tried were awful, unbalanced, & came in obnoxious drink-ware. It's obvious this place thinks that if they put something in a funky cup & add obscure ingredients that they've found the recipe for a good cocktail bar. The wait staff, who were impossible to find most of the night, brought drinks out 1 at a time with at least 5 minutes between each drink. By the time we got our last drink the first person to receive theirs was almost done. The Graniceros tasted like someone melted down popsicles, the cup was ridiculous to hold, & there was syrup all down the side. The Rayo tasted like someone just poured white sparkling wine into mezcal. & the Pocheteca was fine, a little too sweet. Do yourself a favor, walk 15 minutes south, & visit Licoreria Limantour if you want a real cocktail.

Yelp
The bar was recommended to us by a multitude of people and we had good things and we're very excited to try it. We attempted to book online however since we were rushing around during our trip in Mexico City, we were not able to score a reservation however we decided to show up and see if we could snag a table. The taxi dropped us off and we were mystified as to where it was located, a part of the fun in coming to xaman is locating it since it is hidden. So we were able to locate it and were very happy, walked down the stairs and into the doorway. We were greeted by a young lady who asked us if we had a reservation and we admitted we didn't. I am not exaggerating, she looked extremely frustrated that we didn't have a reservation and she waved her hand towards two special tools told her to sit there and stormed off. We were a little shocked at her reaction and at that point we didn't even want to stay that to be honest. It was extremely dark and we didn't really like the atmosphere, we were handed menus and we literally could not read them it was that dark in there. Due to the way we were greeted and the fact we couldn't see the menu, and the fact it was just so dark and a little leery in there, we decided to leave and go to a different bar
