Xandari Resort & Spa, Near San José, Costa Rica - Explore & Book

"Just a 20-minute drive from San José airport, you ascend into the jungled hills above the valley and up into another world: colourful modern architecture surrounded by exotic flowers in the lush gardens of Xandari. Here you find the labour of love of Californian architect Sherrill Broudy and his painter wife Charlene; this secluded hilltop resort provides a welcoming and unique experience. Rooms are spacious individual villas, with high curving wooden ceilings and white walls that act as a backdrop for Charlene’s vividly coloured paintings and eclectic wall hangings. Each villa has its own generous balcony with rattan recliners so that you can lie back and take in the sun, or just gaze out at the valley spotting birds swooping from tree to tree. Have a massage in the spa’s beautiful jalapas, wander along trails through the jungle to secret waterfalls, plunge into the Jacuzzi-with-a-view, and feast on locally produced food in the restaurant. Xandari is a wonderful introduction to Costa Rica for families, couples and friends alike. Highs Secluded feel: each room gives you acres of private space, and the resort is set in beautiful gardens with 4km of walking trails and bamboo grovesClose to the airport: spend the start or end of your trip here (we think 2 nights minimum) discovering hidden waterfalls and getting pamperedSpa with interesting treatments such as a 'chocolate delight' scrub and massage, as well as 3 heated outdoor pools and a spectacular array of activities on offerA warm welcome from charming, friendly staff, and good, locally produced foodThe views from the rooms' private terraces across the tropical gardens and down to San José are stunning Lows Villas are very basic and some fittings look a little cheap, but we spent the majority of our latest revisit on the terrace or exploring the groundsThe décor is lively rather than restrained: imagine Matisse meets Gaudí meets Picasso. We grew to enjoy it, howeverThe small dining area and bar space can get crowded in peak seasonAdmirable lack of heating and air con in the rooms from an environmental point of view. But bring pyjamas if you’re coming in the green season (May-September)Sliding patio doors have ventilation holes that may allow some little creepy crawlies in - don't forget you are amidst 40 acres of tropical gardens (reception can provide bug spray)" - Christabelle Dilks

Xandari Resort And Spa | Best places to stay in Costa Rica

"Only a half-hour drive from San José international airport, this re-wilded former coffee hacienda is a good choice for a pre- or post-flight stopover. There are wonderful views from pretty much anywhere in the hotel. The plush Ultra Villas – with floor-to-ceiling glass windows – look across the central valley to the twinkling lights of San Jose and the rippling Cerro de Escazu mountains. The hacienda sits in extensive gardens on the edge of forest, cut by wildlife trails – some leading to beautiful waterfalls. " - Alex Robinson

We enjoyed our stay at Xandari Resort. It's a gated resort about 20 minutes from the airport. The design is very unique and the grounds are beautiful. The view from the restaurant is beautiful, if not cloudy. |Our room was spacious and beautifully decorated, with a comfortable bed and pillows. There was also a sitting area with a beautiful view. The sink area had plenty of space for toiletries. The only minor issue in the room were the trashcans (in the bathroom and bedroom) as they did not open when the pedal was pressed. The counter top and backsplash are mosaic tile and in some areas it needed to be cleaned better.|We had breakfast, lunch and dinner at the on-site restaurant. The lunch was disappointing, instead of the Caribbean sauce we were used to at other restaurants, this was a thickened glaze instead. The dinner was much better. My husband had the fajitas and I had a beef tenderloin. The breakfast was very good.|The staff both at the reception and the restaurant were friendly and welcoming. |Would I stay here again? Though we enjoyed our stay, it was pricey. So, if i find a good deal, i would stay here again.

Ok, I’m obsessed. I spent 2days and 2 nights at Xandari and it was stellar. First, the property is stunning; so green and lush, with miles of trails and even a few waterfalls. And the views from the room and restaurant are lovely as well. Not to mention 3 pools/hot tubs to relax and rotate! Secondly, I found the room spacious and comfortable, with a great bed, shower, tub and balcony. The onsite spa is also a treat; I booked a 3 hour service (with Glorianna), for a very reasonable rate, and loved every minute of it. Food options onsite are another plus; while their continental breakfast is just fine, lunch and dinner options are extensive, yummy, and beautifully presented. Last but not least, every staff member was incredibly kind, but I want to give a special shout out to Carla at reception, who was so sweet, and the gentleman who drove me to the airport, who was chatty and helped me with my Spanish:) All in all, I found Xandari to be incredibly beautiful, serene and worth every penny. I can’t wait to come back!

Gorgeous hotel, lots to see around the hotel. Waterfalls were incredible. Art everywhere. Pools nice and clean. Sunset pool was really nice! Room was incredible. Had a great view, loved the shower, bed and pillows really comfortable. Loved the front and back patio area. Restaurant had good breakfast but dinner was not good at all. Had chicken one night and it was chewy. Had a burger the next night and it was raw, didn’t eat it. Would recommend going out for dinner. Spa was beautiful and relaxing. Had a facial and it was great! Highlight- Waterfall and trails are incredible. Room and view and all the art and colours everywhere. Check in staff friendly and let me check in early. Restaurant dinner staff not great. Slow and inattentive. Was disappointed with the restaurant dinner. Overall 4 stars! Would stay again just wouldn’t eat there for dinner. Thank you for some great memories!

We visited the hotel on a day pass rate, which included access to all facilities and pools and a three course lunch, along with a one hour massage each.||The hotel itself is beautiful- so many lovely trails to walk, we walked to the waterfall and it was so nice. We spent most of the day at the main pool, which was very peaceful with the most incredible view. The staff provide you with a WhatsApp number so you can order drinks to the pool and they will bring them to you.||The food was incredible- good size portions and cooked incredibly well, the chocolate cake is a must have! The view from the restaurant is also lovely.||The massages were two of the best we have had- great pressure levels and very attentive masseuse who made sure to tackle our problem areas.||It took us just 40 minutes to reach here from San Jose, however due to the traffic (there was a concert on in the capital) it took us 2 hours to get back, so just make sure you bare that in mind. It was well worth the trip however, a great way to start our holiday.

A super place away from the city bustle. We stayed at Xandari when we arrived on our Costa Rica trip over 2 weeks ago. Too tired and lack of time didn't allow us to take in the full Xandari experience. Fortunately we stayed the night before we flew so this too could take all that was on offer. 1st the staff is tremendous. A special shout to Karla who was so warm and helpful. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant . The views from our spacious and comfortable rooms were fantastic. The sunset was so perfect. |It's a great place to both start and end your journey through Costa Rica. Highly recommend it.

We spent two nights and three days at this resort before driving to La Fortuna. The facilities were very clean, and the grounds were beautifully maintained. We enjoyed the breathtaking city views from our villa and the sunset pool. The resort also offers onsite hiking trails with waterfalls, which we thoroughly enjoyed. The staff were very welcoming and kind.

This was our first stop on our trip around Costa Rica. Our room was lovely with amazing views into the central valley. The grounds were beautifully kept and all the staff were extremely helpful. Special thanks to the manager (?) who gave us lots of advice and even offered to help us if we had any trouble during the rest of our trip. A great welcome to Costa Rica!

We got there after a 24-hour flight to Costa Rica. We stayed for less than 24 hours to rest before we moved to our next location. The hotel was a perfect start to our vacation. Twenty minutes from the airport, we were in the most beautiful hotel with the most amazing view. Everyone was super friendly, and they had gluten-free food in a restaurant with a view to remember. Last but not least, the resort has its own natural trail to see waterfalls, an easy, beautiful trail we enjoyed. The entire experience immediately took us from the long journey to a tropical vacation. If you have enough time and want to recharge, I strongly recommend this place.
