"Xavi, the little restaurant with the ambitious menu at 5607 Chicago Avenue South in Minneapolis has closed after two and a half years. Chef Michael Agan and James Elm are restaurant industry veterans who have known each other for over twenty years, but their first time owning a restaurant. An Eater tipster noticed the restaurant had been dark over the weekend, but it’s unclear when exactly it shuttered. A Facebook post officially announcing the closure was posted at 5 pm on Sunday evening. Xavi first opened in June of 2016 and the local critics mostly loved it and all weighed in on how to pronounce the name. Star Tribune restaurant critic Rick Nelson said Xavi redefined the neighborhood restaurant. Describing a $13 lamb dish Nelson said, 'Each meaty, fat-ribboned bite is perfectly balanced by refreshing, brazenly ripe slices of mango, and a vividly green, cool-as-a-cucumber cilantro sauce.' Before Xavi, this address held the First Course restaurant for fifteen years. In the end, the owners admitted they 'couldn’t make it work for everyone.'" - Joy Summers

Favorite restaurant in Minneapolis right now. Menu changes with available resources. Food is always amazing. Have never ever been disappointed. It's an amazing foodie destination: they have delicious brews on tap, a wide range of wine, share plates or regular entree options for mix and match dining and the friendliest staff anywhere. If you haven't been, you're missing out. Try the trifle dessert (flavors change, but it never fails to amaze).

What a great find in MN. Come here for work and stumbled across this place randomly one day. Totally worth it! Sit at the kitchen bar so you can chat with the chef!

A definite hidden gem in the Twin Cities! I'm always amazed at the incredible flavors in every dish. Make sure to save room for the miso pudding, you won't be disappointed!

Very good food but extremely bizarre experience. Everything was quirky and the food was, if nothing else, quite unique. We felt somewhat uncomfortable the entire meal - our waiter was nice but seemed to be eavesdropping on our entire meal. On the positive side, we had two bottles of very good wine that were less than $50, and the short rib was one of the best dishes I’ve had in a long time.

Excellent and helpful service, delicious and very flavorful food, and very relaxing atmosphere. We came here for our wedding anniversary and had a great server who helped us choose a good wine. We also enjoyed the pork belly small plate and the New York strip steak as our entree. We had a great time and will come back for another special occasion!

Great selection of unique salads to start the meal and the entrees were creative and tasty. Wine list was reasonably priced and a nice selection. Service was prompt but not rushed and our server did a nice job of describing the food. There is also a prix fix 3 course menu , which includes dessert. The desserts should not be missed:)

The food here tastes amazing and is presented beautifully. The feel of the restaurant is great, and the waitstaff are very accommodating. This is a small plate restuarant, and we've been to a few in the area that have extremely tiny portions, and it ends up being extremely expensive. I would say this is a very affordable small plate restaurant and you will leave feeling full! We had 2 starter plates, 1 entree, 1 dessert and 2 drinks for around $70. We left extremely full and satisfied!
