Without making this a rant to be frank all their claims of producing the most black doctors and medical professionals is false alongside this the graduates they do send to medical schools only have about a 30% graduation rate which is horrendously below the national average of 90% its truly a joke of an institution while their pharmacy program may be great for anything requiring medical school just go somewhere else honestly

I visited Xavier simply for a training. The buildings I entered were easy to locate. The school is pretty diverse and all of the staff who assisted me were wonderful.

I remember this being the first college I attended. I was the first in my family to go to college so I wasn’t aware of much , but there was staff to help us... Well , this man helped me and we were on a website and he was just telling me everything to click and what to “approve” . Come to find out this man made me accept about 10K in student loans, but for only 1 semester!!! ,Unfortunately this money did not even go toward my classes but to the freshman dorm I lived in ( very dirty ) . I wish he would of explained more to me . I didn’t find out until being at the school for a little while & checking my credit karma .

Always good to visit your Alma Mater. It is a great institution for forming young African-American men and women into leaders and builders of society! Thank God for the vision of St. Katharine Drexel and the Sisters of the Blessed Sacrament!

Reading all the comments only tell half the story. I've read about bad dorms. Well didn't Howard university just have it's students sleeping outside due to rat infestation and mold? Does spelman have a/c in most of it's dorms yet? Nope not at all. I've read about the school being about money and that financial aid was not very professional. What hbcu isn't? Most all hbcu's biggest gripe is the financial aid office. That's the reason a lot of people transfer to pwis is because of the financial aid process. A lot of the views presented here are misleading to potential applicants. It shine a negative light on Xavier, for the very same issues most hbcu's are facing. That being said. What education did you get? And was the education worth it in the end is what we really need to know

Yelp
I mean, honestly, what's not to love about an HBCU that is high performing? We stopped by Xavier to let our teenagers see the campus. Of course in just a short stroll across campus, an employee adopted the girls (who were walking ahead of us) and took them into the office to educate them about summer pharmacy programs. They got swag bags that they were excited about and learned all about the requirements for pharmacy majors, how those students are supported toward success, and careers in pharmacy. We did some more walking around and staff in the science building were just as welcoming.

Yelp
The school was rated the worst for student MH. They do not listen to their students. They frivolously charge students for items they never used. Ms. Bracey was rude and condescending. My daughter was charged for a book bundle that she opted out of and she never used. They refused to remove this charge from her account even though they lost zero dollars. They are the worst in customer service and could care less about email and school reputation. They are a Christian school without christianity.

Yelp
XULA is located off the 10 freeway in New Orleans. It is the only Catholic institution within all HBCU institutions. As you approach, the first thing you notice is the architecture and history. There is ongoing construction on campus but it's obvious of the historical relevance. Facilities are updated and the technology is very sound. Parking will be tough anywhere in the city.

Yelp
Dr. Ouloide Goue is an excellent instructor. He knows the subjects of engineering and physics very well, and has a good sense of humor too. I would highly recommend taking his classes.

Yelp
One of the nation's greatest universities, especially if you're considering the sciences - pre-Med or Pharmacy. The campus has updated considerably since my days of walking the yard, so proud to see the beauty of the facilities. Had the pleasure of seeing a few staff from my days...

Yelp
The Good: As a Xavier Alumni, I feel passionate about this school for several reasons. And here we go: HBCU... #1 for assisting blacks with getting into med school... World renown pharmacy program... Only historically black roman catholic university... Distinguished Alumni such as myself... Lol (ahhhh my modesty, lol). Smaller class size allows for more individualized attention. The Bad & The Ugly: I experienced major difficulties primarily in the financial aid department. The lack of professionalism of some of the staff was deplorable, particularly, Emily Jones, my alpassigned financial aid counselor (alphabetically assigned, I should've changed my last name), was awful. NEVER on time. Inefficient. More concerned about her "appearance" than timeliness & assisting students, as this was her job. Not to be considered an attack on her, I'm sure on the some personal level, she's a great person, but at the time when I attended, IMHO, she needed MORE professional training. She single-handily made this "financial aid portion of my HBCU college experience" a nightmare. Being 18, attempting to handle my personal financial affairs & encountering her... What a train wreck. I can go on & on, but I won't, you get the point. Additionally, since I have graduated, I've had the unfortunate pleasure to return to have to deal with the train wreck called XU financial aid department... Hello, pay for the transcript in one area, take the receipt to two dofferent places... Helllllo have ya'll come to the 21st century of technology. Ughhhh. Thank GOD for Ms Carolyn Robinson, such a pleasant disposition & she makes my financial aid woes bearable, hello the aforementioned financial aid counselor could take lessons. During my time there, instructors were readily available for consultation & cared very much about the education of the students. I guess this was the benefit of attending a small, private university. Cost of attendance, is pricey, but depending on your reason for attending, med school prep, name distinction etc, I suggest you count the cost 1st. I can say since my time at XU, there have been some MAJOR upgrades to the campus that are way wonderful... The growth is great!!! The new convocation center, additional parking, woooo hooo, The Qatar, tearing down the Barn for renovations/improvements... Kudos to you XU for improvements/renovations/growth... Now, let's work on the financial aid department + technology. XU, is a good, could be great school in its own right if they would pay attention to a few areas.

Yelp
Great school, but the kids there are snobbish and when I asked for help, they didn't want to help me. Some of the professors were helpful and others weren't.

Yelp
The school is great! The education is amazing! The sense of community and pride is incomparable, but the financial aid department needs dire help. Not a soul in that department is ever of assistance. They state that when you call or email there is a 24-48 hour response time, that is the farthest thing from the truth. Try nearly a MONTH and STILL no response, from multiple representatives. There really needs to be a change in that department before their reputation drags our beloved institution down a dusty path. Arent HBCU's supposed to be a platform for young black students to blossom? And not an additional stressor to the point of contemplating transferring to another school. XULA Financial Aid Department, you sicken us! Do better, or move over for someone that will. This may just be a job for you, but this is our future.

Yelp
Expensive. Made some really good friends here, but I don't like that the school treats freshmen like middle-schoolers! You are given a schedule instead of being able to make one, and you have to meet with your adviser to be approved for the courses that they'll let you take. The chemistry classes have a three hour "drill" every week where you go to take quizzes... it's basically a forced study hall. The hour long freshman orientation every week was also a complete waste of time. I only stayed here for freshman year, so maybe it gets better after that... There's a ten minute break between classes and if you are in the main building and your next class is in Xavier South, you better put your running shoes on! It's a ten minute walk to get there and that's not including getting into and out of the buildings. There's also minimal parking. Get to classes early if you plan to have a parking spot that's not across the canal. The XU police are awesome.

I'm an alumni at Xavier university. Everyone is friendly here. I'm looking forward to visiting my professors again.

Yelp
Excellent HBCU. #1 for getting Blacks into medical school. Catholic University. Pharmacy School is top notch. The staff cares about the students.
