Xi'an Famous Foods 西安名吃

The experience was wonderful. Ordering of food, service and sitting arrangement was more than I could ask for. Clean and spacious. The burgers were way better the dumplings. I do not recommend dumplings though.

I am sad to say that Xi’an has disappointed me in the past year. I still remember driving 2 hours to the Golden Mall underground food court to buy their legendary lamb burgers back in 2010, before it was commercialized to today’s chain. I’ve been a loyal customer ever since. However, the quality control has been going down hill in the recent years. Noodles were extremely overcooked. They are mushy. The pork belly had too much fat made it uneatable (remember I grow up eating pork belly, and I know how it supposed to be). They probably still have the best recipe, but their dishes lost the soul. The soul of Northwestern Chinese food is the delicious, chewy pasta, which I can’t find in their dishes anymore. As a famous representation of Asian food in NYC, I really wish they could be a better model after successfully commercialized. I won’t be back to support their business unless it gets better. Though they apparently do not need my support…

This was a pickup ordering and my first time trying XI'AN Famous, and it was very easy to pick up my food by showing my online order at the counter. The food was freaking amazing, and warning ⚠️ If you get extra spicy, it will be extremely spicy (the way I'd like it sometime) My order was the A5 Spicy Setian Salad and the F1 Chandran spicy tofu Custard Good for vegans and recommend my ThePandaPhotographer

Really like the casual atmosphere where you can just grab your food and sit, enjoy, clean up and leave. Their vegetarian dumplings were so good. That sauce is highly addictive. All vegetarian options I had this day were delicious. The location has a friendly staff and it was a nice place to stop by after hanging out at PS 1.

I have eaten at Xian a few times now and it breaks my heart to say this, but the most recent visit gave me horrible food poisoning. I ordered my standard lamb noodles and cucumbers. My hypothesis is something in the cucumbers is not sitting right with me as my partner got the lamb noodles too. Despite the pain, I would probably try again (once I’ve healed) as their food is truly delicious and one of my favorite things to eat when visiting NYC. Perhaps I’ll stick to the cooked items moving forward.

You guys seriously??! I’m super disappointed and even upset. This is like a joke or insult to me. I only had two pork bun / burgers to-go. I should have checked it at the store but I trusted them. And when I got home, the burger tasted only fat so I thought it’s just the part I had… half finished, dry and ONLy fat. So I opened it and turned out it’s all fat without a single piece of lean meat in my pork bun. I have been to this place many times and it’s always a hit or miss. Tbh this isn’t even honest behavior. I went there at late lunch time before dinner time ( 5 pm ish. ) if the pork is sold out, you should tell me so I can order something else instead of doing this. I want to support you guys but this is not acceptable.

The purpose of this review is not to hate or harm this restaurant in any way, shape, or form. That being said, I hope you take this review as an informative review. Atmosphere: This place is clean for the most part. It is also pretty spacious. They have a second floor where you can sit if there's no room on the first floor. In my opinion, it was well designed in and out. Service: Service was good. They have kiosks machines where you can order in case the person at the cashier is busy helping other customers. Either way, the ordering process is straightforward. The menu in the kiosks machines is clear and not confusing. This is the part where I gave them 4 stars only. I know this is a noodle place, but for those who are not good with chopsticks yet, it can be a bit hard to eat the noodles with one fork. It would be of great help if they can give knives. Again, this might just be a personal preference, but I think it can help many customers who may encounter the same problem. Food: Okay, I'm going to be as truthful as possible here. If you are not a spicy food person, this place is not for you. I ordered the Pork "Zha Jiang" Hand-Ripped Noodles at the kiosk and customized it to have the least heat. I felt the heat. Not a painful heat but a good one. As a person that can handle some level of spicy, I did not mind it at all. The noodles were delicious and it even help me clear my nose 🤣. Yes, some other people and I were using a decent amount of napkins to clean our noses. I had to go buy something sweet after I was done with my noodles. I would suggest, if you want to customize the level of spiciness in your noodles, order at the cashier. Hopefully they can have a clear understanding of how much heat you really want in your noodles. I'm going to do that next time. Price: Prices are decent to be honest. The food is delicious, if you're into spicy food. Therefore, the quality and flavors of the food do compensate their prices.

I always get the N1 regular spicy, but today it tastes different. Maybe there is a change in peppers from a jalapeno or change in the spices. I hope this change is not permanent.
