Xi'an Famous Foods 西安名吃 | Downtown Brooklyn

Came here because I was nostalgic for cumin lamb. The lamb did not disappoint; it was flavorful. We got the hand-ripped noodles, lamb dumplings, and the lamb burger. I haven't had too many hand pulled noodles, but it was alright to me. The dough seemed a bit thick and a bit dry to my liking. The lamb burger was a bit dry too. Had to dip it in the chili oil from the dumplings. The dumplings are the best thing we tried! The dough was thin, the filling was juicy and flavorful, and the chili oil for the dumplings was bomb! We were sipping on that chili oil after the dumplings were gone! It is a sit down place, but more like stools at a counter against the wall. There are some more seating with tables in the back, but seems to be missing some chairs. It gets packed, so we were nervous we couldn't get a seat, but luckily got two seats. Beware of the homemade sodas (did not get a picture of that). It tastes good, but they've gone flat when we tried them. Would have been nice if they stayed carbonated. I would totally come back again for the dumplings.

This is my favorite restaurant in New York, period. Always love the hand pulled noodles, got the N4 with the stewed pork and it was fantastic. Chewy and firm, and always picks up the sauce for maximum flavor. Also a huge fan of the flat bread sandwiches. The cumin lamb is super flavorful, but the stewed pork is my favorite. Simple, unpretentious, it is such a comfort and filling item. I'll be back for sure!

Super yummy food, fresh and perfect amount of spiciness to it! We got one of the popular dishes and it was so yummy. As well as the chrysanthemum tea and orange soda that they sell was sooooo delicious! I highly recommend this spot!!

i always crave the food, really good, the only downside is that it can be bit oily but overall really tasty, and not as spicy as people say it is

Food is as always absolutely delicious! But some of the soups dishes are not as good as the oil/souse counterpart. The place is cozy and chill.

ordered the regular spicy and tingly beef pulled noodles. The meat was delicious, and the noodles were a little chewy, very long, and thick. If you can’t handle spice, I’d recommend getting mild because the regular is quite spicy. Overall, it was a very good meal. I’d give it an 8!

I found the dishes at Xian to be decent, but not worth the hype. I thought the flavors of the cumin lamb noodles were too mild and not very pleasant. Nothing else about the other dishes or my experience stood out for me to visit again.

Still one of my favorites years later. The N4 stewed pork noodle and chewy with tender pork and a great chili crisp. The pork burger is delicious, and the spicy and sour pork dumplings are just so nice and tart. It wouldn't be a XFF if there weren't lots of noticed and rules taped up to the walls and windows. One of my top foods in NYC. Bring one to LA!

The hand-pulled noodles with lamb was one of the best things I ate in NYC! The flat, chewy noodles are so flavorful, the perfect vessel to sop up all the flavor, and incredibly satisfyingly savory! It's not a "pretty" dish, but holy cow I craved this regularly once I left NYC and it's now a must-visit spot whenever I'm back in town. Prices are also very reasonable, so I'm looking forward to trying more menu items!

Good but also like eating salt. I would suggest they reduce the salt or at least have a low salt dish / option.

I love Xi'an Famous Foods. I also love this location since it's never as crowded as its Manhattan counterparts. There's actually a large seating area in the back if you want to stay and enjoy your spicy noodles fresh which I highly recommend! If you wait too long to eat them they start sticking together and then it becomes a pain to eat them. I always get the N1 dish (Spicy Cumin Lamb Hand-Ripped Noodles) which apparently is what put this place on the map with the late and great Anthony Bourdain. The spices are out of this world and I love the flavorful cabbage (it soaks up the spice) and crunchy celery and of course the perfectly chewy hand-pulled biang-biang noodles. On a cold night this dish hits the spot like no other. Enjoy and don't forgot those spices are no joke! Prepare for tingly lips and maybeeee an upset stomach. Oh and they also sell their chili oil crisps in jars if you're looking to bring that spice home to your own kitchen!

I got the cumin lamb, beef noodle soup, and dumplings to go. All of the dishes were great, but the cumin lamb stood out. It had a bold cumin flavor and the meat was very tender. The dumplings were also good with a generous filling and thick homemade dumpling skins. The sauce is a vinegar base, so it also helps cut through some of the other greasier dishes. The prices are also reasonable so I understand why it is a NYC staple!

I love Xi'an Famous Foods, and I was glad to find that this location was bigger than it appeared from the outside, meaning a better chance of finding a seat to enjoy my noodles fresh. They have two counters as well as a back room if you're eating there, so lots of space. I got N9 (pork zha jiang hand-ripped noodles), one of my favorites, and it was delicious as always.

I heard good things about this place and wanted to give it a shot. The place is spacious and have enough space at the front and in the back. I had the spicy soup lamb dumpling and although, I loved the dumpling as the filling was big and very tasty. The soup itself wasnt the best, I recommend having other spicy options than sour and cumin.

Amazing and solid taste of Xi'an food :) Ordered Spinach dumplings and Spicy beef noodles. So good and came quickly. The backside seats area is spacious! It was a hot day but there was a good ac, we enjoyed our lunch :)

Love Xi'an Famous Foods and glad there are so many locations in the city, including in DoBro! At this location, you order at a kiosk and people will call your name when the order is ready. It's definitely a pretty low frills dining experience, and I wish that the noodles/soups didn't come in plastic containers given how piping hot everything comes out! There's more seating in the back of the store, which has long shared tables. They are, of course, famous for their hand pulled noodles and cumin lamb flavors. I think their soup noodles are extremely flavorful and hearty, and sometimes prefer that over their dry noodles. I think adding a bit of black vinegar goes a long way as well, which they provide at the tables. Highly recommend trying Xi'an famous foods at any location when you get the chance, but the one in Downtown Brooklyn doesn't disappoint!

I really appreciate the affordability of this restaurant in offering a high-quality and delicious product in such an expensive part of the world! However, I feel like every time I've returned in the past couple years, it's just been dropping in quality (both food and service). I love hand-ripped noodles more than life--I love how thick they are, how much of a mouthful you get when you're eating it, and how decadent it is!--and will always go for it if it's an option, and this is what Xi'an does best! Unfortunately, this time around, the noodles in the dish that I'd ordered (Pork belly) were undercooked and had raw dough inside. There seemed to have been some communication issues and some confusion between the team members while I was waiting for my order after ordering at the kiosk, and they asked me a couple times what I'd ordered, even after I'd paid and gotten a receipt.

I got lamb dumplings and they were good but not very filling for the price, more like a snack. The interior is pretty small but it has a handful of seating space and you can see them making noodles.

I fell out of love with Xi'an Famous Foods after a string of mediocre and dry lamb burgers, but their spicy tofu ($4.95) brought me back. The silken tofu is soft and delicate, much like sweet tofu pudding (douhua) but swims in XFF's special house chili oil and black vinegar and is garnished with preserved vegetables and a handful of cilantro to keep things fresh. It's the perfect snack when you're in between meals and is filling enough to last you for a while. Don't sleep on their hawthorn tea ($2.95) either. This particular outpost boasts a self order kiosk and tons of seating in the back.

Hand pulled Dan Dan Noodles and more. You can stand and see them pulling the noodles and cooking up your food at this location. Everything is so fresh. Looking through the front window it appears to be small and crowed but there's lots of additional seating down the hallway and at the back ( not visible from outside) They also have a clean bathroom. Not something a lot of the restaurants in this busy cramped downtown Brooklyn area have. Friendly quick service. You can order at the counter or on the Point of Sale screen in front . They do accommodate pick up orders. No cash accepted at this location. Simple menu and big flavor. On a cold winer day this place has been my comfort. My favorite is the cumin lamb noodles ,in soup form and on it's own. Very generous portions .

Spicy & Tingly Beef Muscle Hand-Ripped Noodles in Soup - warm but spicy as you take a bite, beef was cooked to perfection because it's soft and could fall apart easily as you bite into it but still intact in soup. Perfect combination with thick hand ripped noodles bathed in lots of spices broth. It's not for the weak. It tastes like home in an unfamiliar place! Pork "Zha Jiang" Hand-Ripped Noodles - delicious every bite! Tingly and spicy with perfect noodle slurped with minced pork. That lamb burger was alright, I wouldn't order it again. Good spices though. I'd focus on beef noodle soup above. Service was great! Easy to order via machine then getting your order right there, it wasn't a long wait actually. It gives me Taiwanese/Chinese vibes. Great pricing too! I'd come back for these food and try their homemade tea!

Amazing and affordable food. We had: - Spicy cumin lamb burger - okay, not bad, but I wouldn't get it again. Noodles are way better than burgers here. - Spicy and tingly beef muscle hand-ripped noodles in soup - yassss delicious, spicy, hot, satiating, and so flavorful. Wish there was more meat, but you get what you pay for (it was cheap $)... - Pork "Zha Jiang" hand-ripped noodles - delicious too; incredibly filling and rich in flavor. Perfect warm & hearty meal on a cold wintery and windy day in the gloomy gray NYC...

Perfect place for spicy noodles on a cold afternoon. The soups have a very unique cozy flavor. The pulled noodles are fun to break apart. Always very fast with fulfilling orders. I normally grab them to go when working in the area.

A fair price for a sizable bowl on noodles! This small restaurant is definitely geared towards take-out customers. I got the pulled pork noodles, which were not too spicy and very meaty! I love how thick and chewy the noodles are :)

I was a huge fan of Xian in Georgia so when I spotted them on Yelp and realized they in NY also I was so excited and they did not disappoint !!! The lamb burger is something I could eat everyday!! Get up and go get uuu some

The food here was fantastic and I absolutely understand the hype now. The service was fast and it was a really chill place to have lunch. I got the spicy cumin lamb noodles that people had been raving about and it was definitely a great choice. I went with the regular spice and it was definitely spicy but I wish I had gone for the spicier option. Spicy = Good I don't live in the area so I ended up buying a jar of their chili oil to take home but I can't wait to be back again to try even more things.

It's getting colder outside and what better way to warm yourself than a bowl of spicy & tingly beef soup from Xi'an! The soup base has that kick to it (not spicy for me but then I love spicy food). The meat is cooked to the perfect level of tenderness -soft but doesn't break soon as it lands your mouth, chewable but not close to being a gum. The hand-pulled noodles are plentiful in one order (not sure if it really is hand-pulled because I never see anyone actually pulling the noodles) but chunks are HUGE. Would def be better if they were cut into smaller, lengthier pieces. For under $15, the noodle soups are a winner. Avoid the 12-1:30PM lunch hour on weekdays because this place gets busy!

Everything you've been craving - always hits the spot for biang biang style noodles. They've perfected the sauce, noodles, everything is excellent! Recently completed renovations for their Brooklyn location, they are back open for business with additional hours on Sunday now! Order in advance and pickup on the spot - best eaten on site for the best experience.

I really want to leave a review today because this location had the longest line I have ever seen at a Xi'an and the people working the kitchen did such a good job. Since the kitchen is visible, we could see how calm and hard working the cooks in the kitchen were and the person who appeared to be expediting orders led the team so well and orders went out pretty quickly considering how many parts there are to the dishes and how much people were ordering today. It's the perfect day for spicy food. I'll add that the food was perfect as usual, I got the lamb dumplings in soup (for only $11.50!!) and including a pic of it for reference. 6 fat dumplings! The dining space is the back was great and the bathroom was clean. Really can't ask for anything more.

The spicy cumin lamb noodles never EVER disappoints. Hand pulled noodles, extra spicy broth (my request), chop sticks, and great customer service. Great noodles. Downtown Brooklyn. Off of Jay Street. Busy location.

Food was really flavorful, noodles had a great chewy texture. It was a good place to sit and escape the heat. They make the condiments very available to you and the dudes working there were nice.

Every time I find out there's a XFF near me, my heart skips a beat. Their chili oil is chef's kiss all the way. Though many scattered locations around NYC, this one may be my fave just because the staff here are very patient and courteous even when it starts to get packed. Plenty of seating in the back area and food comes out fairly quickly. Liang Pi 10/10 i asked for extra spicy and it was perfect! sauce was distributed very evenly among the noodles and each bite was vinegary, fragrant, and flavorful Cumin Lamb Burger 9/10 good portion filling of fatty lamb, onions, and peppers + crispy bread toasted warm!

This spot is my guilty pleasure I love going here ordering the N3 extra spicy love the texture of biting through the cabbage , love how filling the noodles are and the flavor is just the perfect amount of spice during the winter time to keep your belly filled up definitely recommend this place if you love a good comfort dish with some spice

I fell in love with this place the last time I visited New York and I wanted to make it a priority to eat it every time I come here. They have multiple locations all throughout New York and Brooklyn and the same made-to-order noodles are served at each of them. I ordered the N1 spicy cumin lamb hand-ripped noodles ($13.25) which utilizes their hand-pulled biang biang noodles. The portions were pretty good, the flavors were on point, and they always hit the spot. Don't forget to slurp the noodles to maximize enjoyment! The food came out pretty quickly which is always a plus. This is a New York staple and it's here to stay.

Would 100% come back again! Any of the Xi'an Famous Foods chain are really good and all the menu items are to die for. It is the perfect stop for a quick bite of comfort food. Depending on the weather, I alternate between the Liang Pi, which is the Cold Skin Noodle, or the Stir Fried Liang Pi. This time I got the cold noodles. The noodles had a nice chewy consistency with cucumbers adding a cooling factor. The Pork Burger is amazing! When I got it, it was super hot and fresh, and the bread crispy on the outside. The pork pulled apart very nicely. There are plenty of seating in the back of the restaurant.

Definitely lives up to the hype! We got a couple pork burgers for the kids and my husband got the spicy cumin lamb noodles for us to share. Loved everything, but I am a burger gal at heart so the pork burgers were just absolutely amazing. The place looked a little small, as we had 2 toddlers in a compact double stroller but we were able to fit through the doorway, and push it to the very back room for more tables to sit with our meal. Eat it fresh and hot if you can. We already can't wait to be back!

My bf and I had been CRAVING XFF's A1 dish, the liang pi / cold skin noodles, for months and months. We always pass by the Chinatown location but there was always an issue there - line was too long, liang pi SOLD OUT, closed on Sundays, etc... it just never worked out for us. Until yesterday when we were in the area of THIS location which was totally unexpected. We were stoked. We got the A1 and A2 (regular spice for both), not realizing that A2 was not a cold dish - it just used the same noodles but it was stir fried thus making it temperature-hot. Still good, but I definitely prefer A1 especially on a hot day. We were so happy to have finally satisfied this craving, but already looking forward to the next time we get our hands on the liang pi again!

Noodles cooked perfectly every time. Flavor is fire. What more could you want? Love they have the crisp for sale in large bottles on location.

There is another one of these further down the block. They are everywhere. You've been to one then you've been to them all. Flavors are good, Noodles are amazing. My issue here is some dishes are just spicy but not necessarily flavorful. Every time is different. You want good (& spicy!!) food, that is filling fast & cheap. I have the spot for you!!

This location has an outdoor dining area and limited eating inside. The restaurant was clean, and the staff was very respectful. However, the food was not very impressive. Don't believe the hype! While the service was excellent, the food was just okay. It was my first time trying food from Xian, I mostly eat Cantonese food so I wanted to try something new, but I didn't enjoy the seasonings or flavor of the food. The dumplings and noodles were very oily and the chef used too much cumin. I will say you either will love it or hate it. It wasn't for me, but if you like lots of cumin and oily food this is the spot for you.

My god have I missed this place!!! Since moving away from NYC, I have missed XFF so much. This meal did not disappoint. Just as flavorful and tasty as I had remembered and then some. A must try!

The absolute hand pulled noodles I've ever had! The noodle wasn't too thick and absorbed the sauce really well! The extra spicy sauce was selected, which gave the meal a nice kick! The portion is good for 1.5 people. Price (12.75$) includes tax. No tipping, as it is self served.

Brought mom to try the dumplings for her first time and she couldn't stop talking about them. Seriously, if you're going to get any dumplings in New York; please get these dumplings. We also got the lamb burger and it was amazing!! (We dipped that into the chili oil too). The flavors are just out of this world. And if you don't like spicy but you can handle just a tiny bit, please DO get the regular spicy!!! It makes it.

Fantastic affordable eat in downtown Brooklyn. The cold noodles are refreshing when it's hot outside. The service here is quick and no fuss. Will definitely be coming back all the time.

I'm a huge noodles person and this spot was just a really big let down. Writing this review as a reminder not to come here again. The food was served on a paper plate as opposed to something like a bowl, which made it hard to dig into the food without making a mess. The food's piled on top of each other and there's a decent amount of SAUCE but no room to maneuver. I think I spent more time trying not to make a mess than actually eating my meal, which made my meal go cold. After struggling for a while, I finally gave up on the noodles and just finished the beef and tossed the rest out. That was a sad $13 worth of a meal. EDIT: Updated my review from two stars to one because of the business owner's reply. I'm not dumb. I know how to eat noodles. I'm a huge noodles fan. I'm telling you that the way you chose to present your food made it hard to eat. That's all. I will not be returning to your shop so you could "sit down with me and teach me how to eat."

I've been coming to XFF for a few years now and was so excited when my friend moved 5 mins away from this Brooklyn location. Just like all XFF locations, you order at the front and can either take your food to-go or try to find a spot to sit in the restaurant. While there were a couple seats by the bar, I appreciated that this location had multiple tables in the back room, so it was easy for my friends and I to find a table to eat for lunch. Sadly my spice tolerance isn't great, but I love their cold-skin noodles (liang pi, A1) if I want something more refreshing or their pork "zha jiang" hand-ripped noodles for something more filling. I would definitely recommend getting the noodles spicy though if you are able to- that's how it's recommended by the chef himself! The noodles are simply unbeatable here, especially for how convenient and affordable XFF is.

I ordered a pork and noodle bowl. There is no pork in the bowl at all! Just noodles. Not sure what happened, but I'm not happy, might want to check your to go order before leaving...

This place is addictive! Hyper authentic and delicious! I can't go a week without it.

Came here on the recommendation of a trusted friend. I wanted to get a quick bit before grocery shopping and this was in the vicinity. The ordering process was simple, staff friendly, space clean. I didn't realize there was additional seating in the back which is great for a small group. I ordered the default level of spiciness and it was perfect. The noodles and flavors meshed together perfectly. I will definitely be back!

As usual, I enjoyed another great dish at Xi'an Famous Foods. I had my favorite, Spicy Lamb Noodles.

Came here around 2pm after arriving in the city, and it was still pretty busy considering it was after what I would've thought was the lunch rush. I went to find seating while my partner ordered at the front, and it was easy to find us seats, with the outdoor seating in the back open. It's a separate structure that has tables and counter seating and heaters to prevent it from getting too cold. When I went in, it was pretty quiet, with three other people sitting there silently slurping their noodles. When we got our noodles, I understood the intense focus, because of how fresh and delicious they were. I got the N4 with the Hawberry Juice on the side. It didn't look like too much but it was super filling and I wasn't actually able to finish my whole plate. I went in with no expectations, but I would definitely come back to try out more of the menu, and maybe try out a spicier option.

This is one of my favorite spots for noodles and dumplings!! Reasonably priced for SO much food. I always get their spinach dumplings but you can't go wrong with their lamb dumplings. Their hand pulled noodles (in or out of soup) are a must! Their food as so much flavor and I try to eat every bite. I love the spice and cilantro on top of their dumplings, which come with 6 pieces and they are huge! I would highly recommend anything with their cumin lamb in it because it has so much flavor and is very, very yummy.
