After reading good reviews and hearing positive notes from friends, my experience as Xicha was sadly disappointing.
First, the service was subpar and the seating arrangement was not ideal. I know they just opened, so maybe they are taking time to figure things out, but the space really could've been improved with a host. Tables weren't guaranteed, which can work at some restaurants (like The Wheel), but here you can order food and still not have a table. Luckily, my group was able to snag a table (it was awkward to stalk people finishing their meals) but I saw some people standing and having to hold their food while they wait for a place to sit! The servers were also unfriendly and similarly seemed displeased about the seating layout. If you have a large group or a group with people who can't physically stand for long, this isn't the place for you. Hopefully their outdoor seating can be improved with heaters too.
Now the food was just okay. My group all got a variety of different tacos and taquitos and they honestly could've been the same if you didn't know we ordered different things. The toppings and taste are basically identical between protein choices, which leaves the taste experience lackluster. Especially considering every taco was loaded with a spicy, thick sauce that overwhelmed any other flavor. Only thing I thought was unique were the beans and rice.
I wish this place held up to my expectations. I'll be interested to see how Xicha grows into its space and makes some changes.
