Google
Loving this place! You can find real & authentic mexican food & drinks. This is our 3rd time coming and has turned in our favorite mexican restaurant! Service is always so friendly, bartender (Arturo) very nice guy, and the food has been so good!! Vibes are so cozy in this place. We recommended 100% Ps. And I am from México! So trust me! Food is so good!!!

Google
I've been here a few times and it's just such a gem. After getting terrible service at our prior stop, we came here to get a late night bite. The food was amazing. We all ordered a variety of different things and everything tasted amazing. The drinks were good and vibrant in color. The service was impeccable, and our server was extremely accommodating. And they had a late night taco Tuesday special, which we truly appreciated.

Google
Food is outstanding - varied and creative. Drinks good or great depending on bartender. Staff is very friendly, but things can get a little slow when busy. My biggest complaint is the acoustics. Prices are not bad at all for Walnut Creek.

Google
I was looking for a good mexican food , and I found this place and let me tell you , it was THE BEST FOOD and drinks ever . Highly recommended

Google
Always a killer experience at this place! My favorites on the menu is the carnitas, and the shrimp fajitas. They even have tofu fajitas if you’re vegan. The staff is always so attentive and friendly. A strong go-to for lunch or dinner!! 10/10

The food was amazing! Service and staff were wonderful, and the atmosphere was very welcoming. The quality of the food was exceptional, a must try and definitely going back!

Tried Xicote for the first time and walked away with mixed (but mostly positive) feelings. Let’s start with the stars: the wings were unexpectedly awesome—crispy, flavorful, and gone way too fast. Dessert also brought the heat: the flan was silky perfection, and the churros? Chef’s kiss. Now for the one hiccup: the tacos looked the part but the meat was on the dry side, which left them feeling more style than substance. Hoping that was just an off-day. Ohh and the mussels were outstanding. Overall, solid spot with standout flavors—I’ll definitely be back (but might swap the tacos for more wings and a double round of churros next time.

We were one of two diners in this quaint small diner. Upon entering we were casually greeted from afar and directed to sit anywhere. We started with great drinks and sizzling chicharone with delicious dip. We said"yes" to chips which never arrived despite requests. Then we ordered dinner, once the dinner menus were provided. We ordered the mole enchiladas and the mole negro oaxaqueno. The enchiladas were very pretty but very dry. We used the delicious mole sauce from the chicken mole dish to moisten the very dry enchiladas. That really helped. Their mole is wonderful. Next we decided to try a dessert. We ordered their sweet potato casserole with marshmallows and creme with buneulos. It took 20 minutes to arrive. What arrived was a microwaved whole sweet potato cut in half. There was no casserole, there were no marshmallows. The halved sweet potato had some drops of sweetened condensed milk dripped on top, some sparse fruit, sprinkled with powdered sugar and some buneulos stabbed into the potato halves. Cost: $16.00. We discussed the issue with a server: we ordered a dessert sweet potato casserole with marshmallows, yet what we were served after a 20 minute wait was a microwaved sweet potato cut in half. The reply: "Oh, sorry". We were given the bill which included the "Oh, sorry" uneaten sweet potato halves. We complained to another employee who just smiled and told us maybe it ""melted". We then talked to the bar tender who took one look at the uneaten dessert and refunded the dessert on our bill. Service: Poor. We had to go get our server for most of the service, although there were 5 employees standing around talking to each other. Mole sauce: Delicious Drinks: Wonderful Dessert: Tragic

Yelp
This place is hands down one of my favorite Mexican restaurants. The food is consistently excellent -- fresh, flavorful, and clearly made with care. Everything I've tried has been great, and the drinks are just as good. Whether it's margaritas, cocktails, or aguas frescas, they always get it right. What really makes this place special, though, is the service. They treat me like a VIP every time I walk in -- friendly, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. It's the kind of place that makes you want to keep coming back, not just for the food but for how you're treated. Highly recommended if you're looking for great Mexican food, great drinks, and a place that actually values its customers. -- Roberto

Yelp
Looks like the new owners kept the same chef, as the presentations were similar. The place was quite empty at lunch. We ordered chips salsa and guacamole. Two separate plates came one with the guac ($15!) and the other with the salsa ($6) Small servings for the price. We ordered the chorizo breakfast tacos $18 (disappointing), taco plate $18 (good), enchiladas $22 (excellent) and steak bowl (small serving for the price $23). Overall decent tasty food except for the breakfast tacos. They lost a star for their inflexibility: why can't we get two beef and two chicken enchiladas? There are four in the order and they are being made to order, no? They are also the same price! And why can't two enchiladas have red sauce and two have green sauce?! Make the customer happy!! The server (Arturo) did get us complimentary tres leches cakes to share when he discovered that we were celebrating a birthday. Good service. Overall, high prices for ok size servings - with nice platings! My guess is that the rent is so high that it forces the owners to charge high prices and that keeps the customers away. This is the third restaurant in the same location in about 7 years! Not likely to return.

Yelp
Went for a late lunch on Saturday and had a fantastic meal. We started with the Sopes de Tinga which were one of the best things I've ever had. Next hubby had nachos as an entree and these were definitely "next level" , so much so we took home the leftovers and ordered a side of chips to go. They were great leftover! I ordered the taco plate which is four soft shelled tacos and I went with one of each - steak, chicken, pork and carnitas. Only ate two and took two home. Again great leftovers. The vibe is casual and nice, fun cocktails, and great service! Definitely a great place and will return.

Yelp
A group of us hit the town and had plans for along evening so we had to bad up first! Stopped by Xiocote and the overall group consensus was Yum! Two thumbs up!! Their drink menu is extensive! Plenty of margarita flavors and Soo tasty! Various Tequila offerings and flights and specialty drinks as well such as the horchata Hennessy drink! Food options cater to all types of picky eaters, adults, teens and kids alike! I heard no complaints, solid all around! Definitely a great place to enjoy a lovely meal in the creek area. Good service, they were attentive and for us what we asked for and needed. We will be back!

Yelp
We came here for our anniversary dinner. The food was amazing and Dora our server was attentive and very friendly. She often checked on us and they even gave us a desert on the house. The ambience was amazing as well. It was kind of packed but Dora made sure our food and appetizers were delivered in a timely matter. Ismael the bartender is amazing as well. I highly recommend this place if you are in the area

Yelp
Early midweek dinner. It was almost empty at 5:00 PM. The atmosphere is nice. The service was good. We had the Sopes de Tinga. They were really good. My Mahi Mahi a la Veracruzana was delicious. Loved the olives in the dish, nice sauce. The Steak Enmolodas were good. The mole was great. Steak was tender. The Ensalada Xicote with Steak was also good, good ingredients.

Yelp
The drinks were a highlight -- I had a Michelada that was refreshing with a beautiful presentation, and a margarita that was not only gorgeous but also delicious and strong. For food, I ordered the Chile Relleno. It wasn't breaded like I'm used to, but it was absolutely delicious and packed with flavor. My husband had the shrimp enchiladas, which were hearty and very filling. My in-laws shared the fajitas, which came sizzling hot and tasted amazing. We also tried the potato tacos (a must-try -- so good!) and finished with churros that were crisp, sweet, and the perfect ending to the meal. Overall, this place exceeded my expectations. Beautiful atmosphere, attentive service, and food that's not only delicious but also presented so well. I'll definitely be back and highly recommend it!

Yelp
My friends wanted to try this place out so we went there for dinner. They weren't busy so we sat down right away. Our waitress came to take our drink order right away and gave us water. We ordered some margaritas which were really good. We had some guacamole and chips to start. The guac was really fresh, good flavor, not spicy but still good, and the chips were fresh. For our entrees we ordered the tortilla soup, the chicken enchiladas, the chicken mole, the mahi mahi tacos, and the veggie tacos. The mahi mahi tacos were supposed to not have the sauce on it but it did so they had to remake it, the tortilla soup was amazing, great flavor. The enchiladas verde sauce was delicious and the chicken was cooked perfect, the veggie tacos was also good with great flavor on the veggies, the mahi mahi tacos that was remade and came back out and was cooked perfect, the only bad thing was the chicken mole. The chicken was overcooked but the mole sauce was delicious. We ordered a bread pudding for dessert and it was probably the best bread pudding i've ever had. Our waitress was really nice and helpful if we needed anything. I don't mind the messing up of the mahi mahi because they remade it and brought it out pretty quick. We enjoyed our dinner. Very nice place, with a good ambience. I would've gave it a 5 star if my chicken mole was cooked better and also, there was a table that had a party of 6 with a dog, the dog was sitting in a chair. I think animals should not be in a chair where people sit. They didn't even clean the chair when the party left. I think that is very unsanitary.

Yelp
Great food! Tht pretty much sums it up! The drinks we ordered were good too. Good portion sizes and easily shared by two!

Yelp
Xicote Cocina Mexicana is located in the lively main street of Walnut Creek. Food: * Chips & salsa: 2/5 Very frugal in chip quantity. Chips were cold and stale. The salsa was was good but couldn't used more heat and flavor. * Taco Plate: 3/5 4 tacos, 1 chicken, steak, al pastor, and carnitas taco garnished with cilantro and onions with tomatillo salsa on the side. All were good. My Nana liked the steak taco most. *shrimp & steak fajita: 2/5 shrimp and steak served with white rice and choice of tortillas. Came with 5 tortillas. I ordered sour cream and guacamole on the side. This was more like a red pepper, green peppers and onions fajita. They were very stingy with the portion of steak & shrimp. 75% peppers & onion/ 25% shrimp & very very thinly sliced steak. Very disappointing quality & portion. Drinks: 3/5 * Tamarind margarita: 4/5 Delicious :) * Laguinitas Little Sumpin': 4/5 Beer was cold and delicious Ambiance: 3/5 A nice space space with Oaxaca themed decorations. Music was a bit too loud and more on the rave genre. It would've been nice to hear music from Mexico instead. Service: 4/5 Service was good. The staff often came to our table to check on us and asked if we needed anything. Extra shout out to the bartender who multitasked. He made our drinks and also checked on us most often. I probably would not return to this restaurant. I'm looking forward to trying more mexican restaurants in the Walnut Creek area...

Yelp
I love this place. The staff is welcoming, friendl, and quick. Food is amazing. They have the best happy hour and beautiful craft cocktails. Hidden understated jewel.

Rosa S.

Yelp
Everything was great here. The food was so delicious and flavorful. The service was top notch and the ambiance was perfect. We were so amazed by how large the tacos were. The ribeye taco was our fave and it was piled high with large pieces of perfectly cooked and seasoned meat. The drinks were great too. We will definitely be back again!!!

Yelp
Everything was delicious. The staff are very nice and helpful. We can't wait to go back.

Yelp
Second trip here this week. I'm hooked on their Tamarindo mock tail ($7). I love the tamarind candy and lemony flavor. They have daily specials. I ordered their taco plate special ($10). It was a steal and good. It came with four tacos (carnitas, beef, Al pastor and chicken). All meats were delish. I didn't like the chicken as much. The service was nice and my drink and food came fast. The ambiance is semi dark, with Mexican art. Table and chair seating with bar seating as well.

Yelp
Authentic Mexican food with the perfect flavor in every dish. It's sooooo good!! My mom & I come here and the service is always great. Perfect for date night, family outing or a simple get together with friends. Highly recommended, This is one of my favorite restaurants!!!

Yelp
Good Mexican food in the heart of Walnut Creek. Portions are very generous. Service was also good. Large menu with some great options. Mole was very good

B B.

Yelp
Cute new place. Torta asada was delish, large roll with lots of stuff, meat had a wonderful real char grill flavor that could get addictive. They have veg options like tofu protein bowl and beans w out lard. and the breakfast menu includes things like tres leche french toast and chorizo skakshuka. Parking can be tough but the alley behind has some pay lots. Friendly attentive service that seemed to care.

Emily C.

Yelp
Stumbled on this place with some family members for lunch. We was able to get seated quickly but I feel this place would be packed very quickly on the weekends. Got the Guacamole and Chips and Torta de Birria. The Guacamole and Chips was a good portion, very well presented and tasted fresh. The Torta de Birria was delicious, with a lot of flavor. The beef was so tender - would recommend trying it.

Yelp
Very nice restaurant in Walnut Creek's busy district. The service was very good and the food was exceptional! Looking forward to another visit!

Yelp
5 stars! Sorry for the long review, but I couldn't help it. This was our first time here, and everything was deeelicious! I'm a big fan of quesabirrias and pozole. I usually don't order pozole because it's hit or miss at many other Mexican restaurants. But today, I said, "What the heck, it's our first time here, I'm going for it." I'm so glad I did! Both the pozole and quesabirrias were a hit! The pozole tasted fresh with just the right amount of spice and was served with warm, crispy tostadas. The quesabirrias had the perfect beef-to-cheese ratio, were seasoned just right, and had just the right amount of crispiness in the tortilla. They paired perfectly with the consomé (dipping sauce). My wife ordered the Seafood Taco Trio and loved the flavor of the sauces and the freshness in every bite. On top of that, the customer service was excellent, super friendly and welcoming from start to finish. We'll definitely be back, can't wait to try more items on the menu!

Yelp
This restaurant is located on Bonanza St. which is basically a strip of other restaurants. We decided to give this one a try because I have been on a wild trip to find a good Mexican food restaurant. We tried this one. The service was okay. It was not too crowded but it took a long time for us to get our drinks and food once we had ordered. * no complimentary chips and salsa. The drinks were pretty good - we got a Tequila Sour. We all tried the enchiladas. I love that it comes with four enchiladas but not happy that you can't mix them (two shrimp and two chicken) you have to get four of the same. Not a fan it doesn't come with rice and beans, you have to pay extra for that. They were pretty decent though. They brought out churros for my birthday which was nice. They were so yummy. My son loved them too. My fiance' didn't like his enchiladas and the server was understanding and tried to suggest another item to order. He didn't want anything else so he was nice and took the item off of our menu. I would come back and try other items on the menu.
google avatar

Raul M.

Yelp
Good service and I like their Tuesday special for Taco Tuesday; 4 tacos for $10 (save $6) Don't be timid to ask for more chips w guacamole dip. Waitress was attentive to make sure our water glass was always full without us having to ask for more.
google avatar

Michael S.

Yelp
What a pleasant meal and evening. We started off with Margaritas (very tasty) and Queso Fundido, a new to me appetizer of melted Oaxaca cheese topped with Chorizo and served with corn tortillas. We had the Tacos De Birria plate (served with a terrific dipping sauce) and Shrimp and Steak Fajitas (another wonderful entree). The staff were very attentive and served chips with a very good salsa. Incredibly, we found metered parking on the backside of the restaurant. I'm definitely going back and would recommend this restaurant without hesitation.
google avatar

TressBy H.

Yelp
I had the fajitas, rice, and the street corn for appetizers. - Fajitas were good flavor, the only problem I had with it was that they did not come with jalapeños or Serranos, which is one of the reasons why I love fajitas. And when I asked for spicy salsa, they said they really didn't have anything really spicy. Which surprise me being that it's a Mexican restaurant.. - the rice I have to admit was really good. So much that I ordered a second side order of it. - the street corn I honestly was not a fan. I guess I expected it to be on the cob as opposed to being on a bowl. But it did not have a lot of flavor. - Now, the ambience, for a little restaurant that is expensive. as it was I just expected it to be a little more cozy, it was just too cold feeling.. it just didn't give you that warm family feeling.

Srini V.

Yelp
We had an excellent lunch here. The whole experience was outstanding from start to finish. The staff were very personable. They were attentive to our preferences. Food is moderately priced. Everything was very tastefully made, well put together and well presented. As they say, one needs to just taste a grain of rice to know if the whole pot cooked well or not. I would say the same thing here. The side of Mexican rice was so delicately made with an awesome balance of flavors, salt, oil and of course taste. We mostly ordered vegan, vegetarian and some entrée with eggs. All were spot on. Portion sizes were good too. Our shout out to the staff who waited our table. We sure will visit again.
google avatar

B R.

Yelp
There are only a few places where our family can eat together. Some of us are vegan and some can't eat seafood or pork, but Xicote Cocina can serve us all. The vegan options for our adult offspring were beyond our expectations. The beautifully crafted cocktails hit the spot. But, the service? WOW! On point and attentive.
google avatar

Andy M.

Yelp
Cozy place with friendly staff. We came to check it out because Yelp suggested it when I searched for vegan food options. We tried the vegan taco plate - so tasty. In many other places, the vegan choices are bland because they are a version of a standard taco with items REMOVED. This kale, sweet potato taco with pepitas and an almond crema was full of flavor and beautifully presented. Chips and salsa were authentic and fresh. We will definitely be back.
google avatar

Rose C.

Yelp
This place is a casual hangout spot that's always buzzing with people. The crowd was super loud, and I'm not sure why everyone thinks their laughter should echo through the place. It was almost a bit too much, to be honest. I'm not a big fan of Mexican food, but I did try some of the dishes, and they were surprisingly delicious! My shrimp fajitas was very good, and the burritos, enchiladas, and steak fajitas were all pretty tasty too. One of our friends really enjoyed the spicy salsa that comes with each dish. He left with a bunch of containers and a full belly! The servers were super friendly and helpful too.
google avatar

Ron C.

Yelp
We visited Xicote for my wife's birthday. We has a very nice experience and the staff was very kind and attentive. My wife, who rarely orders a cocktail tired the Tropical Tequila Sour and REALLY enjoyed it. I had their signature Margarita and also enjoyed my cocktail. For dinner she ordered the Seafood Taco Trio Plate (Shrimp, Lobster & Mahi Mahi tacos). Beautiful presentation & very tasty. I had the Carnitas Burrito which was also quite good. The portions were generous. They staff surprised the birthday girl with a churro plate with a caramel dipping sauce. They were DELICIOUS.
google avatar

Carlo C.

Yelp
Costumer Service is Very Good Food is served HOT Food presentation is 100% Quality of food and Quantity is spectacular Must drop by and taste the delicious foods
google avatar

Sèan S.

Yelp
Best birria tacos in Walnut Creek!!! The owners and staff are extremely hospitable and provide service immediately. It's really hard to go anywhere else for Mexican food because Xicote has something special going on!

Dan C.

Yelp
They serve breakfast until 3. I've been here in the evening for dinner or cocktails and always have an experience. Was going for something tasty like tacos or a tostada but when I saw breakfast was an option went for huevos rancheros. Price are high the dish was twenty but well executed. Eggs cooked to order correctly served on two tostadas with ample salsa verde. Crowned in cotija cheese. Their Bloody Mary was on point; generous amount with a tajin rim and good spice.
google avatar

M K.

Yelp
I haven't been here in quite some time. For context, the last time I visited, I didn't enjoy the food. Anyway, my family wanted to go, so I figured we'd give it another try. I was pleasantly surprised. The food was better than I remembered. It was late afternoon, so it wasn't that crowded, and the service was good. Everyone was attentive. My family and I will definitely be going back.
google avatar

Patrick J.

Yelp
Pretty good place in downtown Walnut Creek. I had the chicken fajitas. It was a bit saucy for me so I would give it a 7 out of 10z. My wife had the salmon salad. It was tasty and done well. The tacos looked good and this was probably the better choice. The tables are a little cramped. The place is clean and the service was good.
google avatar

tony s.

Yelp
Excellent food quality and taste. Their steak nachos are soooo good. Great portions as well.

Cathy C.

Yelp
Good service and excellent fish tacos. Started with the Margarita which was nightly drink special.

Drew D.

Yelp
Wow, the food is really great here!! I had some of the chorizo tacos and the fajitas. The chicken fajitas were the best fajitas that I've ever had :) The place itself is a cute and quiet restaurant right in the heart of downtown WC. We were served quickly and the food came out fast too. Very impressed with the quality of food and the different dishes that Xicote has to offer - way more than just another Mexican restaurant!
google avatar

Alix C.

Yelp
So good! Flavors are amazing! Service is outstanding and everything is reasonably priced. We had the combo fajitas and the red enchiladas with steak and chicken. Atmosphere is fun and staff is super friendly! Will definitely come back.
google avatar

Kevin N.

Yelp
So the final checkbox in my book for a great Mexican restaurant is their carnitas. Lots of different styles to choose from but we settled on carnitas quesadillas - huge portions! We split the dish and still had a box to take home. They were absolutely out of this world fantastic. With the liquor license now in place, of course we had margs (which are also top notch), chips and their homemade salsa. All the dipping sauces for the quesadillas were also home made - fresh and tasty. Service was again outstanding and our server comped us a tres leches dessert. OMG! It was perfect - not too dry, not too wet. This isn't just a great Mexican restaurant - it's one of my favorite restaurants in the East Bay. You must check it out!!!!
google avatar

Renee R.

Yelp
Delicious, fresh food. Always a good sign when the restaurant is full! Loved the different flavors - great chef .
google avatar

Adam T.

Yelp
Amazing food and incredible mezcal. The 3000 noches mezcal is out of this world. We started with plantains and chips. The pizole was excellent with large chunks of pork in a spicy rich broth. We had the Veracruz mahi mahi and mole chicken which were flavorful and fun. The wait staff were on it and shared their knowledge of the food and drinks. The owner Francisco came out for a nice after dinner conversation. I would definitely go back there and am now planning a date night soon to return
google avatar

Yelp
Best Mexican food in Walnut Creek .. drinks food service 10 s across the board.. u can't go wrong with anything you order.. I been here a few times . Once for drinks then finally had dinner and was not disappointed.. u must get a guacamole and chips so tasty.. this last time I ordered the birria wings.. wings were very flavorful the sopes were so good.. not oily which is always a plus..and they have options for vegetarians .. I want to come back and try the sweet potatoes taquitos I think..

Brendan M.

Yelp
Great margs (even made virgin margs for the kids), fajitas and fish tacos were really good (and quick!). Service was very friendly.

Sirish G.

Yelp
Came in for lunch and was ignored and not served by the waitress well.. she was passing our table multiple times but choose to ignore and walk away. Food was okay.. Won't come again
google avatar

Bob D.

Yelp
Pretty much the same ambiance and vibe as the previous Mexican joint but better food and service! Started with the Guacamole - fresh and good chips! Wife had the Quesobirria Tacos - I had one and it was crispy and tasty as it should be. I had the Sopes de Tinga - chicken - sope was great chewy and very flavorful! Would we go back? Sure!

Rebecca R.

Yelp
Delicious and authentic. Service was stellar. Great guacamole and the chicken flautas were delicious.
google avatar

Odette V.

Yelp
We ordered the margarita, Paloma, mango habanero wings, chicken fajitas, and seafood tacos. Everything was fantastic. The drinks were fresh, balanced, and tasty. The wings were perfectly flavored and not too saucy. The fajitas were very good and the seafood tacos were very nicely done Definitely recommend this little place - staff is friendly and attentive.
