New Late Night Restaurant Opens in Linda Vista With Chinese Barbecue and Karaoke | Eater San Diego

"I discovered a new Chinese barbecue in Linda Vista occupying the former Saigon Restaurant space next to Thuan Phat supermarket; it's the second location of Xinjiang BBQ, which originally opened in Monterey Park in 2017. Inspired by meat dishes from Xinjiang, the menu emphasizes lamb—lamb soup, lamb chops, lamb kidneys, and lamb testicles—and a wide selection of barbecued skewers including beef kabobs, crispy pork, Taiwanese sausage, and chicken gizzards available spicy or mild. The offerings also include seafood snacks like barbecue oysters and spicy clams, staples such as fried rice, sweet sour fries, eggplant with garlic, and fried tofu, plus sweets like grilled buns on skewers lightly dusted with sugar and small desserts filled with yogurt and red bean paste. The 2,800-square-foot space is designed as a 360-degree art installation: an immersive lobby with motion sensors lets customers interact with roving images on the floor, giant screens on every wall display moving scenes including animated Chinese scroll paintings, and each table has an individual screen playing Chinese and Western music videos plus microphones for karaoke. Owner Xun Tong plans to expand the menu to include hot pot, hopes to serve beer and soju once the restaurant secures a liquor license, and, following the Monterey Park location's late-night model, will keep late hours (Mon–Thu 5 p.m.–2 a.m.; Fri–Sat 5 p.m.–3 a.m.; Sun 5 p.m.–midnight) while considering further expansion in San Diego or Las Vegas." - Helen I. Karaoke restaurant vibe but apparently they stopped doing karaoke. Food was decent. Skewer meats were tasty from the sauce but meat quality was so so. Fried tofu was good but lacking salt. Sesame cucumber was also good but pretty ordinary dish. Overall, I was there because there was no wait at 6pm on a Friday night. Service was great!

The vibes are amazing. I’m so glad this exist. Wonderful lighting. Great music and delicious food. The tongue is tender and juicy. The lamb is tender and cooked with a nice spice. The oysters are a garlic dream with a hint of spice. Everything I tasted was amazing and appreciate its more natural flavors and spices than a sauce.

Very decent joint for fair priced skewers! Get at least 4 lamb skewers per person, trust me. The bacon and inoki mushroom was nice too! I personally liked the cow tongue but my friends thinks it's so so.

It was definitely different… still not sure how I feel about it. My husband enjoyed the food more than I did. We ordered the chicken, beef, and lamb, but I personally wasn’t a fan of the meats. However, me and my kids really liked the chow mein—it was a hit! Honestly, we should’ve just ordered two plates of that and shared. The vibe of the place was cute, and I liked how they played music videos on a projector, giving the whole spot a fun, energetic feel. Ordering is done through your phone, which was convenient. Overall, it was a decent experience, but I don’t think I’d go back.

Some food is acceptable, other is meh. Meat quality is low as you'd expect for the price. Lamb in soup was crunchy and chewy. Seat was dented in a few inches, very uncomfortable. Call button broken. The water container had a very dirty cap. I think they can do better...

This place opens late night, but to my surprise, it is actually perfect for kids due to all their projectors on the walls and the floors. My little ones had so much fun! The music is not super loud. The food was not bad. We got a bunch of skewers. Our kids shared some steamed buns and the lamb noodles. Service was awesome. I 100% approved. I really enjoyed their oysters and steam buns. My husband liked their spicy clams.

It is amazing that we still have something open this late. The food is amazing and very affordable. Must order the lamb skewers during their happy hours! Its fatty and it tastes good. Table is big and wide and it's very crowded on a Friday night because people drink here. It is definitely worth the try.

10/10. I’m so glad I finally found a chinese skewers place in San Diego with just the right food, right vibe, and right price!! The atmosphere is like a chill lounge/karaoke club. The variety of food is great, the drinks are good. The waiters are so so friendly, and they are very patience with you even though there is a slight language barrier. 100% recommend for a late night out.
