"Don’t be perplexed if certain items on the menu seem familiar – this all-day dining bistro is from Paul Pairet of Ultraviolet and Mr & Mrs Bund fame. Some dishes echo the signatures from those establishments, albeit rendered in simpler forms. Onion soup is recommended – rich and well-balanced, with a nice contrast of textures. The classic Parisian décor with an industrial twist works perfectly. Reservations are recommended." - Michelin Inspector

Xintiandi is a good explanation of what Shanghai looks like. It's a perfect mix of something different. Very charming.

For Shake Shack lovers, this is the only branch in entire China as of today located in Xintiandi District. So bear in your mind the expected queues :)

This place as suggested by a local Indian in Shanghai was an excellent place with good vibes and lots of restraunts to choose from. The best part being those restaurants having vegetarian options. Its always a pleasure to find a good vegetarian friendly restaurant.

When I first visited Shanghai more than a decade ago, Xintiandi was a place I kept coming back. It was one of those places that offers a good mix of chic restaurants, lots of activity and night life and a bright beautiful space. Xintiandi is the epicentre of chic nightlife for Shanghai’s youthful elite. This is where the action is. Xintiandi fuses the modern and the old. Shikumen style housing that’s reconstructed alongside modern amenities become the backdrop for a slew of restaurants and bars. I read this phrase that seems apt for Shanghai: “Xintiandi is where Shanghai of yesterday and tomorrow meets today”. When it’s not raining, this place is packed. I was here in winter the last time too, and there was a Starbucks in the corner that serves hot chocolate that keeps me warm. The Starbucks is still there, but what’s new is the huge hotel right in front of it, as well as a bunch of new restaurants including those by Wolfgang Puck. Some of the best restaurants in Shanghai is located in this neighbourhood and this is one of the most expensive areas to live in Shanghai.

The district is composed of an area of reconstituted traditional mid-19th century shikumen ("stone gate") houses on narrow alleys, some adjoining houses which now serve as book stores, cafes and restaurants, and shopping malls. Most of the cafes and restaurants feature both indoor and outdoor seating. Xintiandi has an active nightlife on weekdays as well as weekends, though romantic settings are more common than loud music and dance places. It is considered one of the first lifestyle centers in China. It is also the most expensive place to live in China, with some apartments costing more than Tokyo, New York and London. It is home to the Chinese elite and top executive expats. Xintiandi is the location of the site of the first congress of the Communist Party of China, now preserved at the Museum of the First National Congress of the Chinese Communist Party. Also nearby are the Shikumen Open House Museum and the site of the Provisional Government of the Republic of Korea when Korea was a Japanese colony.

One of the best places to hang out in a western style in Shanghai. Plenty of expats and places to eat and have some drinks.
