"XLB, the popular Chinese restaurant known for its soup dumplings and baozi, will open its second location in Slabtown. The original XLB on North Williams quickly became the neighborhood spot for Chinese food. The new restaurant will have a counter-service menu of noodles, greens, and buns, as well as tap beer and wine and occasional specials." - Brooke Jackson-Glidden

This was my first experience a having Bao that I thoroughly enjoyed! I’ve order the same thing from UberEats SO MANY time since eating here. This with a side of rice was more than enough to fill me up!

I've gone to the location on N Williams once or twice and couldn't get over how good the food is here. I'm so glad that a new location has opened within walking distance of my office! Coworkers were in town and our boss decided to take us all out to lunch. We walked by this place and I convinced the crew to give this a try. We all ordered about $75 worth of food for the four of us, getting two different types of steamed buns (mushroom and chive, and a pork one), soup dumplings (XLBs), shrimp, the beef noodles, and popcorn chicken. Just like the N Williams location, the food was unbelievably delicious, and there was plenty for the four of us to all feel fully sated. I have to say, the popcorn chicken was much better than I'd expected it to be, each piece was quite large and tasty on it's own, but they did come with a spicy dipping sauce (I think sriracha mayo) and a soy mayo type of sauce as well. Both were perfect for this dish. The beef noodles had plenty of medium-sized pieces of beef, the sauce/gravy was super good too. The soup dumplings were, of course the main event - basically two different dishes in one as you drain the soup from the dumpling first to drink, then put a little sauce on top and eat the dumpling. I can't wait for warmer weather as this place is on a corner of floor to ceiling windows that all open up. Dinner and a drink here will be wonderful come summer!

I’ve been anxiously waiting for XLB to open, and finally got to try it out today! The shrimp & pork noodles shouldn’t be skipped - would make a great lunch if eating alone & not family style. The namesake XLBs are delicious, especially with the ginger sauce! Overall, the decor is cute & the service was fast even though I ordered right at noon, so I’ll be back soon.

Was really looking forward to coming as this place gets talked up all the time. Came in and it was very busy so I want to cut some slack... lady seating folks was very curt and borderline rude as she was seating our table. Food was very disappointing steam buns obviously were just being pumped out... werent very hot and not much flavor, five spice chicken was soggy and had zero ( fried) texture, Beef ho fun was not good...meat was slimey and flavor was very poor ( did not eat after a couple bites ) , shanghai shrimp noodles were fantastic as were the cashews. All in all save your time .... Portland is full of fantastic food. Attended Monday 2/3 6pm

It was a dark and smoky night in Portland ... Got the shrimp and pepper wontons, shanghai pork and shrimp noodle dish, and some other dish that escapes me. All were very good. We would have eaten there but for the smoke from forest fires ...

Honestly did not expect that place to be that awesome! The Wontons and the popcorn chicken were 6 out of 5. Eggplant and Baos were 5 out of 5. Chinese greens were a 4.5 out of 5. Overall, makes it a more than solid 5 out of 5!
