Cafe Xochi

in love with this place, have been coming for a few years now and I’m so grateful it exists. The Xochi sandwich with slaw and turkey and crispy cheese is such a light but rich and acidic balanced go to of mine. They may not have pour over but their drip is some of the best drip out there, tastefully executed each time haven’t had a miss yet. They even have some seasonal unique one off that are always fun and tasty. The backyard space is so so peaceful, they may not allow dogs inside but the dogs are certainly hanging all around on the outside ! It’s hip, comfy, tasty, peaceful. the vibes are good.

Lovely cafe, very community oriented and it is apparent from the moment you arrive before even walking in. Today there was someone giving away free green apples outside, and when I came in I had a lovely maple cardamom latte and a sandwhich. Have been recommended to this cafe in the past, was very happy to give it a try! Will come back ;)

Loved the atmosphere and the people. There is an outdoor patio for dogs and seating by the cafe. We got the espresso tonic and the earl grey iced latte with oat milk. Apparently on Saturdays there are a lot more dogs. 🐶 the empanadas were warm and delicious. There are trash cans outside but the tubs for your cups and plates are inside the cafe.

loved the staff and the vibe of the place but the iced matcha i got was gross. it was sour? not sure if it was the almond milk or what but it didn’t taste like matcha.

Love this place! People here are extremely friendly, the inside has a good amount of local art, and plenty of seating. The drinks are yummy and the food is good. Seating / Outlets: There's less seating inside but there's still a lot of spots set up along the bar and the walls. A bunch of outlets in there as well. In the garden area, there's more seats in the open area as well as a shaded narrow spot toward the back that has some curtains at the end (this is where the outlets are outside). The narrow area has seats on high chairs next to a long table on the green wall as well as tables and seats on the opposite side. WiFi: My partner said WiFi here was pretty bad, a bunch of sites were apparently blocked like hotmail and Outlook. So if you work from home, maybe this is something to look out for! Drinks / Food: So the horchata latte was a bit too sweet for me but the latte art was beautiful and I enjoyed the flavor a lot. I think I'd just ask for less sugar the next time. I loved the espresso tonic a lot. As for food, the empanada was yummy (mushrooms are my fave and this was plentiful) but I didn't care for the sauce. The pastry was also pretty good, but not as flavorful as I expected. Still loved the crunch of the bread around it though. I definitely want to try more food here. So far I prefer drinks the most. But if I want a quick bite, prices were pretty reasonable to me and I'd easily buy them again! Overall: I mainly go to coffee shops to read for an hour or two. The coffee is good, the space is beautiful, the atmosphere is peaceful, and the service is great. A local spot worth supporting.

Great spot. Coffee drinks are excellent and the baristas are friendly in a genuine way. I wish there was a bit more seating inside for work sessions but there is plenty outside if the weather abides. Overall one of my go-to spots for good drinks and a good book.

So lucky to have this place in the neighborhood. Delicious coffee and snacks with a really cute outdoor garden and friendly staff and customers. A true community meeting place. Note that dogs are no longer allowed inside the cafe, only on the back patio and sidewalk.

This is my favorite Cafe in Oakland. Born and raised in this neighborhood, and we have been needing a safe/ welcoming space where the community can gather and eat good food, and drink delicious coffee. The staff are super cool and helpful. Don’t sleep on their sandwiches😋.

Cool cafe especially if you have a pup! Nice choices and servers are so nice and accommodating. But really the best part is to bring your pup and let them roam around greet-sniffing other pups in the cage or in the backyard. It's social fun for them while you chill with your coffee!

This is a neighborhood joint to the t. Located in a beautiful little neighborhood, Xochi is that corner coffee shop. You know the one, that has all their regulars sitting outside chatting with each other, welcoming patrons, as their dogs putter around. The UPS guy is grabbing a coffee, and the back patio is humming with locals working. Street parking was fairly easy on a busy Friday morning. The coffee is solid and they sell Starter bakery pastries and Javi's empanadas. The empanadas are a bit pricey for their size, but they were delicious. Overall, vibes and the community feels makes this a no brainer 5 stars. I wish this type of spot was in my 'hood!

This is the spot! Xochi is my go to for coffee and matcha. We stop by at least once a week to grab some coffee beans as well. They serve starter bakery pastries and have their own sandwiches as well as empanadas. If you want an actual matcha - hit this place up, it's made properly. Sometimes they have a strawberry syrup to add to it and it's by far the best strawberry matcha I've had. The owners are kind and fully invested in making this a spot for the community. It's got a great outdoor patio to sit in as well. Good vibes all around. One time while sitting outside I heard a couple complain about the dogs that were there. Don't be that couple. It's literally in the name. You're almost guaranteed to run into a few here, consider it an added treat!

Nice little cafe in a quiet neighborhood. Came here on a Wednesday morning with my family and it was quite busy but plenty of street parking available. There were a few dogs chilling outside of the cafe. The inside was very cozy with a few tables and chairs. We ate at the backyard area as it was more spacious with more bigger tables and chairs. There was a good selections of food and drinks on the menu. I ordered at the cashier inside and the staff brought the food and drinks out not too long after. I got the mushroom empanada, quiche, twice baked almond croissant, matcha latte and horchata latte. The empanada and baked goods were all delicious. The matcha latte came out unsweetened so note to order it sweetened if you want it sweet. The horchata latte was creamy and smooth. I could taste that it was made with actual horchata and not just flavored syrup. It had a nice cinnamon spiced note but it was a bit on the sweeter side. Really enjoyed our time here and Cumba loved seeing all the furry friends too!

Bruno and I love starting our day with a coffee and walk to Xochi. My favorite drink is their house latte that is super creamy and flavorful. Friendly service, diverse menu, and patio makes this place a local fav.

i love going there early in the morning to get the best of it all, although i don't have a dog, but i go to see all the beautiful dogs there and im never disappointed! the baristas there are super friendly and know what they are talking about ehen it comes to cofee, they are all very talented and fun. i had grilled cheese which was the BEST i ever had. and they also have some finger licking mushroom empanadas

I went to Xochi for the first time ever this week. I live in the neighborhood and have walked by this coffee shop several times. This review is purely for the coffee as I didn't hangout or eat at Xochi. I like dark roast coffee (I'm from Seattle, home of dark roast) so I didn't think my americano was great. It seems that Xochi uses the same third wave coffee that most Bay Area shops use - the fruity, citrusy light roast that just doesn't taste good. I went to Cole coffee the next day and was reminded that it will forever be my favorite coffee in Oakland.

I came here with some colleagues to get some work done on a Saturday afternoon. We loved the drinks, food, and setting! Our lattes were delicious. The food we had was scrumptious. I got the pastry made with curry chana and kale. It was so buttery and tasy that I could not believe it was vegan. We were añso lucky enough to have live jazz music on the back patio. We had a lovely time!

Great for so many reasons, especially the 3 most important factors of what makes a great cafe: a genuine local neighborhood spot, excellent coffee, and friendly staff. Xochi nails all 3!! Plus, it packs a few extra punches that really make it standout: they host community events that integrate the cafe into the heart of the neighborhood and....there are always cute dogs around! What more could you want from a cafe? Xochi really delivers!!

Matcha Latte ? Horchata Latte? Amazing coffee? Yes! Yes! Yes! They have it all and it tastes amazing! Best part is that it's super pet friendly and they have a patio area to sit and relax with friends for a quiet conversation ! Must visit!

Cutest little cafe that opened up in the neighborhood! Always driving past but this time we walked and I'm glad we did! Not busy at all, you just order at the door and wait outside. We split the bittersweet chocolate cookie and had iced horchata lattes. Loved them both, perfect pairing for sure. I'd order again plus come back and try the rest! Plus there's an awesome little outdoor spot behind the cafe where you can sit and enjoy your treats outside. I'll be sure to walk on by again soon!

Pro: - very dog friendly -outdoor space has plenty of seating -staff is welcoming -space is a good size, not too small -coffee is strong, oat milk is not extra -free and ample street parking Con: -wifi is weaker on the patio, 2-3 bars. Love this coffee spot and the owners seem super sweet. Enjoyed working in the patio with my dog, can't recommend enough!

Wonderful cafe, been going here for a couple years, great ambiance both inside and out on the patio, with good coffee, pastries, and empanadas. Special shout out to the all the staff - really cool friendly people who help put on some great community events as well. Recently left a personal item at the cafe and the owner was kind enough to find the item for me and give it back when I returned. Overall 10/10.

The best cafe in Oakland. There's none like it- neighborhood location, warm vibe and the coffee is decent. There is a large outdoor patio and plenty of sidewalk seating (although I think they should add more!).

I never heard back from them regarding a remedy for what happened. I sent an email detailing my experience. I called and received no response. I had to go to the coffee shop to speak to the manager. He gaslighted me, dismissed what happened, and was defensive. He even had a condescending smirk on his face the whole time and said he didn't understand my experience. The barista admitted to being rude and apologized, but it was clearly a forced apology. Either way, I'm never returning; horrible customer service and an incompetent manager who, instead of deescalating the problem, only inflamed it. This definitely could have been handled much better.

The place gives me Portland hipster vibes. The coffee shop is a little gem tucked away in the residential area of East Oakland (which is really unexpected tbh). Street was wide and full of trees and there was also a cute little patio in the back. Got two matcha lattes with oat milk. The menu is limited and our matcha lattes came unsweetened. It would be nice to have a disclaimer somewhere that they're lattes came unsweetened? I initially wanted the horchata latte sub oat milk and the cashier told me it wasn't possible. Other than that, I would give it another try. Love how they don't cheap out on their matchas like Starbucks does. Parking: 8/10 residential area Customer service: 9/10 cordial Price: $$ Ambiance: 10/10

Xochi the Dog Cafe occupies a former corner grocery space. some outside tables for sitdown. nice looking infrastructure, unknowst what the name signifies. doubt dogs can enter premises. (underaged) offerings, coffee, tea, draft beers brew: medium roast, "grand" coffee -easy sipping medium coffee, ethiopian?

So many fantastic vibes at this coffee shop. Xochi has become my new regular spot for getting coffee with friends and getting a little work done too. They have wifi, indoor + outdoor seating, outlets, and great customer service. There are multiple vegan, veggie, and meat options for all the different eaters in my life. My only critique is that the treats are on the pricier side, my empanada being ~ 5.50 and my curry puff being ~ 6.50. But overall worth it for the cute indoor and outdoor seating options. Side note: My friend highly recs the quiche! Highlights: 1. Dog watching as owners filter in and out of the cafe area 2. The goldfish in the large water plant outside 3. The cute mix n match seating options

Cafe+Dogs? Count me in! Xo is definitely an asset to the neighborhood. Check the IG for community going's ons. I've tried a couple different items so far. My favorite order would be: Iced Horchata Latte + Grilled Cheese. Hear me out: The saltiness of the cheese + the sweet spiciness of the horchata. The grilled cheese has a soft pillowy bread + a medium amt of buttery crunch on the crust+ luscious melted cheese. If you're part of the "hard crunch" grilled cheese fam - this may not be your sandwich. If you're team luxe soft + medium crunch - it's a GREAT sandwich. Solid vibes all around!

Cute neighborhood spot in Ivy Hill area - has good coffee and nice pastries and a pretty, quiet garden seating area. Dog friendly and charming. So glad to have it near by.

Unfortunately today wasn't the only time I have witnessed baristas touching a dog and return behind the counter, touching dishes and NOT WASHING THEIR HANDS. I didn't leave a review the first time I saw this, people expect they be served with clean hands. Instead of them washing their hands, they suddenly told me they were closed and "refuse service" instead of washing their hands. Such a poor excuse especially in the community your are in, staff should really try harder.

We came by on a Monday afternoon about 3PM. The location was great, just 7 minutes away from my boyfriends house. The aesthetics was lovely, and a we were eager to try a new coffee place. A plus, they are against food waste, and have their store on the Toogoodtogo app. We order a London fog, mocha, and cappuccino. Wanted to try the horchata latte, but they were out of horchata. We also ordered a mushroom empanada as we love empanadas!(We traveled around Spain trying them everywhere). This is the verdict on the food we ordered: - London fog - 3/5 Was a bit underwhelmed, I'm a tea fanatic. I like my tea strong and my London fogs creamy. This was neither, but it gets a 3 star because it's pretty basic. Early grey tea, not steeped long enough with some milk. - Mocha - 2/5 Their Mocha is more on the chocolate than coffee side. If you like a strong caffeinated mocha, this is not the one for you. It tastes almost like 80% chocolate and a dash of 20% coffee. My boyfriends mom actually thought we bought her a hot chocolate. - The cappuccino - 3/5 Strong, not to sweet, pretty basic but not bad. Not much to say other than this is about your standard cappuccino. - The mushroom empanada - 3/5 A lot of crust, not a lot of filling. Filling was not seasoned very strongly, but I appreciate the crust for being crispy and inside for being gooey. I wouldn't necessarily come back here for this empanada again, but maybe their other ones are better. In addition, when we arrived and asked to pick up our Toogotogo order, the barista looked surprised and said they didn't have anything for us to pick up. He was kind and asked if I could just come back another day, but unfortunately the app doesn't work like that. He asked me to cancel in on my end, but as customers that's not allowed. He called his manager and got the order cancelled so I could get a refund. I was a bit disappointed that the shop owner decided to sign up for something without being aware of how it worked, or debriefing his/her employees about the app. Overall, we really wanted to love this place. It just isn't it though. Aside from the aesthetically pleasing space and nice staff, I can't say we'd come back. Maybe to try their horchata latte, but the drinks and good we order were not very appealing.

This quaint and cozy cafe is a hidden gem! Bring your laptop or fur baby and check out their cute little garden. Try the quiche and horchata (ask for less sweet) and you will not be disappointed

Update: I come here like every day now and everyone is great. Coffee is great. Art is great. It's a vibe and I'm here for it

I love this cute little cafe in my neighborhood! The coffee is great and have been meaning to try their sandwiches, which look good. Every time I stop in there's a cute doggo to be found. My only gripe is that they don't have decaf espresso in which to make a decaf latte or other espresso drinks. Would love if they started carrying it! I would come a lot more frequently if they did, and have noticed that other cafes nearby do have that as an option. Also the iced horchata latte is bomb!

12.6.2020: Took the hubby to get empanadas and coffee around 11am. They crossed off the items already sold out. Which was most of the empanadas and the samosas. And the pastry display was pretty much empty. Lesson learn: Go earlier in the morning on the weekends! After ordering, we waited outside to allow others to go in and order. While waiting outdoors, the baristas would come out with our order immediately after one item was done. That was such great customer service to not leave anything at the counter. I wouldn't have mind running in to grab the stuff if they waved me in. But, shows you how awesome they are that they knew who ordered what without a name... made us feel a little special... This place is awesome! Nestled in a residential area... It's a perfect spot to walk your dog, grab coffee, and meet the neighbors (on two legs and four). The back patio allows for your fur baby to hang out without a problem. It has a very modern minimalist look. And they are eco conscious! From their disposable cups & straws to the bags for pastries are green! And I love that they are doing their part to be sustainable and reduce waste especially during this pandemic where take out containers and cups seem to be overflowing garage cans... They have a great menu of quick bites. There are paleo and gluten free options. They have pastries from Starter Bakery in Berkeley which crafts organic & non-GMO baked goodies. They also have Javi's Empanadas, which I've been wanting to try from their store in Emeryville. So, excited to finally try it here! I had their Iced Horchata Latte! It was very good! I forgot to add a shot of espresso, but I added the extra at home... so yummy! I also got Starter Bakery's famous Kougin-Amann... So good! I'll have to come back in the afternoon to try the craft beers or a loose leaf tea with an empanada, samosa, or GRILL CHEESE! Oh gosh! I'm so excited to just wake up and go for a walk now! Best motivation ever!

OMG! What a beautiful, local, cafe. I've been waiting months for this to open so I can enjoy my coffee with my dog The owners and staff are unbelievably generous, and I love that they're born and raised Oakland. The beer is also delicious. I'm already a regular!

Met a friend here one afternoon and thoroughly enjoyed it. The empanadas are delicious (don't forget the green sauce to go with it)!! And the matcha tea latte was great. Will definitely go back.

Sunday's are always the day to search for new coffee shops as I like to keep things "exciting" Of course where better to research than Yelp?? Located in a residential area was a cute little corner coffee shop with a short line but a busy presence... if that makes sense Picked up a iced horchata latte and a vegan empanada. Iced horchata: I wanted it with oat milk as it was a listed non dairy option however they said they could only do it with almond milk... not my fav but okay. After watching them make it I understood why.... the horchata is premade in a large container and the espresso is added thereafter. Unfortunately this did not taste like a usual horchata latte.... definitely lacked the cinnamon sabor and sweet and creaminess of one... ehh wouldn't try again. Vegan empanada: great color air fried to perfection- assuming these are premade from the same bakery they get their baked goods from. Not bad .... not amazing.... impossible meat, Mushrooms and some other minced veggies I will say they had friendly service which is important especially when you visit for a first time. Would I be back? Possibly to try something else.

Super cute neighborhood cafe with some pretty solid empanadas and good iced tea. For more of a full meal, you probably want two empanadas. There's also plenty of indoor and outdoor space (both out front and in the back patio) that makes this very dog friendly and convenient in these unusual times.

Friendly staff, lovely interior, peaceful garden. GREAT coffee, and Starter Bakery pastries which are delicious. The xochi sando is my favorite. I also got clarification that it's not a "dog cafe" per se, but rather a cafe named after a dog named Xochi. Despite this, there are always a lot of dogs around, and treats for them too.

Great little cafe right near my apartment. The coffee is good, as is the food. I love the grilled cheese. The employees working are all very nice. They also have a small but good canned beer selection. The only feedback I would give is most vegetarian empanadas have mushrooms in them. As a vegetarian that strongly dislikes mushrooms, I selfishly hope they add more empanadas that are mushroom free :)

Seen this spot on one of my neighborhood walks and decided to check them out. They have seating on the outside and inside. Very chic coffee shop. I haven't taste any of their sandwiches but I tried the Latte with almond milk. Probably the best latte I've had. Coffee temperature was perfect how I like it. Not too hot and not on the cold side. Will definitely be my go to on my morning walks.

I wish I could give this place 10 stars! It really is such a gem. It's unlike any cafe I've ever been to in the Bay Area. One of the most special things about this cafe is that it is in a quiet residential neighborhood. They have backyard and sidewalk seating, and so it really feels like you're just sitting in the garden of a home. There are no other businesses around. The space is beautiful and the staff is lovely. Oh and the coffee! I love the roast they serve. It's a brand called Grand Coffee, and I've never had it anywhere else other than here. They also have delicious empanadas and Starter Bakery pastries, which are the same ones that they sell at Philz. They also have free wifi and are totally cool with you sitting and staying for a while. Not too many cafes are doing that yet due to the pandemic. Lots of cute dogs come here, too. This cafe has it all! Great drinks, food, empanadas, friendly staff, free wifi, gorgeous outdoor courtyard seating, and serenity!

One of the best cafés I've been to, got the best Iced Matcha latte and cinnamon roll. The place is clean and the people are nice. Really recommend this place!

I love this cute little café in my neighborhood! Everything they sell is great (although do not pin your hopes on the samosas being available). I like the art they have, and the patio is gorgeous -- a perfect place to come and read or meet up with friends. As the name might suggest, it is very pet friendly and a great place to meet some new doggo friends.

I love this cafe! This gem of a spot is exactly what the neighborhood needed. The staff are so friendly, the drinks, pastries (and samosas) are incredibly tasty. I started my London Fog addiction here and haven't gotten passed it to order anything else. The space is well designed with attention to details; obviously someone who knows design worked on this place. The outdoor patio is just as elegant. It's a tranquil, minimalist space to relax, sip coffee and feel like you should be reading the Sunday paper. During the pandemic this establishment has given me (and the neighborhood) an ever so small but much needed feeling of normalcy. It's also difficult to find a nice cafe with an outdoor space like this. I almost want to keep it a secret but that wouldn't be fair...

New goal in life: Become a local at the Dog Cafe. Can't imagine it'll take long. Great staff and service, whipping up some stellar coffee. Will be back for however long it takes to have my name tagged on a bench. So excited to have this in the hood.

In response to Brandon B, my trick to becoming a regular at the cool new spot in town is to walk in and say "hello I am going to be a regular!" that is what I did on my first day at Xochi, and I'm already almost two frequent coffee drinker cards filled to my promise. They always hook my dog up with her pupachino, and I love my Americanos. My husband sticks to the mocha, and my housemates rave about the horchata latte. My favorite sandwich this side of the lake though??? The Xochi special! There is just something special about that slaw/cheese combo. Mouth drooling. Can't wait to keep supporting local. We love this addition to the neighborhood!

This cafe is the spot . Walked in and was so welcomed by the super nice staff, and then the food and drinks were great too. So glad this spot opened in the neighborhood. Talked to the owners guess they were born and raised in Oakland, and was curious about the eclectic menu and how they thought of it, guess the owners are of Korean and puerto rican descent, and want to in corporate those flavors and ideals to the menu in the future. Come check out this cafe, and it's great patio outdoor eating area .

I can describe this location in one word: Amazing. The staff is extremely friendly and from the area. So nice to see fellow Oaklanders establishing business within the same city that raised us. We tried the Horchata Latte and it was so delicious. Tasted like authentic homemade horchata with the much needed espresso shots to kick start your day. Also, tried their beef and chicken empanadas as well the samosas. This place completely blew our minds. Having grown up in the area and my parents living here 30+ years, they were taken back at how beautifully remodeled this once market place is. P.S they have open seating in the back in their garden. Every sitting area has hand sanitizer and disinfecting wipes to use. Highly recommend visiting!

Amazing new cafe nestled in the neighborhood. Almond milk latte is my go to, but if you're feeling extra, try the horchata latte (extra cinnamon-y!) they have coffee, matcha, beer, wine, an outdoor garden, and are dog friendly. What more do you need?

Excellent addition to the neighborhood! Stopped by today for lunch and had a delicious, homemade sandwich on perfectly warm ciabatta and a tasty cold brew. I sat on the cute outdoor patio that has spaced out tables and plenty of sanitizer for use. Very friendly owners. I'm excited to go back and try the beer offerings. 10/10

This cafe has everything. Great coffee/non-coffee drinks, food, booze, outdoor seating, super friendly staff, and most importantly there's always great dogs there. I got a nice americano and my boyfriend is obsessed with their horchata latte. I also got an empenada which came with a delicious green sauce. My favorite part of this cafe is the brother & sister who are running the show. They're native Oakland residents which is super important to me as a third generation Oakland resident. They've added such a wonderful (safe) neighborhood meetup. The back patio is a peaceful oasis while you enjoy excellent treats. Must check it out!

So much love for this spot. They are always incredibly kind and caring. My daughter loves to walk over and get special treats. They are still developing their menu options, but they have a handful of pastries and a full coffee menu. Some sodas, beer and wine. My wife and I are especially excited for a future where we can go there, sit in their beautiful patio, and enjoy some wine while our daughter plays at the neighbor's house. We have to wait for that, but we can still enjoy a drink to go while wait. Welcome to the neighborhood.
